scurvy has got to have one of the biggest disease/treatment coolness gaps of all time. like yeah too much time at sea will afflict you with a curse where your body starts unraveling and old wounds come back to haunt you like vengeful ghosts. unless☝️you eat a lemon
In all seriousness I do understand your pov in a sense of seeing a character (or, someone from the real world) being misinterpreted and moulded into a way to fit peoples desires, it is something every fandom experiences.
I will add on however, that theres a general conceious within the "King Baldwin IV Fandom" that any fanfics or romantic acts or whatnot is about the fictionalized version of him from Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and not the historical, *real*, King Baldwin IV.
To my understanding, everyone has great respect for him, and wouldnt write about someone like that as it is morally wrong to do so.
However, this isnt to say people cannot take inspiration from his life to add to these fics, which you may be getting confused with, I dont believe this to be morally wrong, as its still very much in the realm of fiction, and not actually wanting to fuck the real king, just the one from the movie, inspired by him.
Everything else, the fandom is made of alot of people who are interested in his real history as well, with plenty of resources scattered throughout, if you do wish to learn more about him and his legacy.
You can always block what you do not wish to see.

To answer your question to the best of my knowledge, he didnt have any suitors in his time because he took a vow of celibacy, both because he was essentially banned from fucking (to not further spread the disease), and possibly also to his own benefit, as to be seen as not like his parents, who were massive whores.
(in short)
When something gains more fame, it inevitably brings low-quality public. It disgusts me how King Baldwin IV is disrespected by shipping him with an Oc who doesn't even behave like in the Middle Ages. I'm not against shipping as long as it makes sense, besides Baldwin IV is a real person, how the hell can you create in your disturbing fantasy having sexual relations with him like orgies (he is a Christian and sick with leprosy). At least respect his memory.
