𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐬 | EPISODE NO. 1 "Goodbye Mama"
❧ 𝐚𝐥𝐥 / 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭.
welcome to a new and uncalled-for series, brought to you by Second Simblr Wind™ or whatever this is :^) i was flipping through 1992 to finally do a fashion rundown inspired by jennifer's analysis of her characters, and i realized 1) i was doing good work once upon a time but have improved a ton since and 2) my favorite shots often aren't the ones that get the most attention. so, here we are. i crave attention like everyone else on the internet, so questions, comments (of your favorites), and requests welcome. if you're new, go catch up !
𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭 ↓
01.01 - safya dies : I know this isn’t that standout shot from this post, but it is the one that I find the most striking. It may be the interplay between the dialogue and what’s happening, but the tentativeness of the gesture and the way her ring is conspicuously absent makes it noteworthy to me. I also just love shots constructed this way: side profile, cut off so the only expressiveness you see is the lower nose and mouth.
01.02 - leonor has a nightmare : It was hard to choose for this set. The runner-up was the close-up of Safya applying sunscreen with her ring very visible—which, of course, raises questions about why Leonor’s dream version is ring on versus ring off. There’s also a blue-brown contrast in this post, and that one exemplified it because Safya’s swimsuit is a pale pink that blends into her skin and the surrounding wood. HOWEVER. I chose this one because it’s just more visually interesting. There’s details, like Safya’s watercolors on the table, the way Rodrigo shadows her on the right margin, how she’s casting a backward look at him or us or both …
01.03 - arturo attempts to comfort leonor : Another color contrast scene! Blue versus orange, although, of course, Leonor’s thoughts are on the color red. There’s some analysis to be done on that alone, but I won’t bore everyone with half-baked ruminations on literary color theory or whatever, lmao. This one—! I actually had to redo this shot for some reason, but I was very insistent about getting it right. I guess it’s simple: this is child Leonor’s perspective of her mother. Emotional recollections and flashbacks are always more powerful when you can’t see someone’s face. Maybe that’s because we often struggle to remember people’s full faces as the memory of them fades over time. In any case…
01.04 - blanca helps beatriz bathe : This may be one of the tenderest shots in the entire story as it stands! Despite having helped care for younger siblings, I didn’t appreciate the fragility and intimacy of caregiving until my grandmother needed me to help her bathe, dress, clean her wounds, rub lotion into her feet, brush her hair … So, that’s what is being conveyed here. Obviously Beatriz is spry and capable, but it says something, to me, that she clearly must have asked this of Blanca. Is it something she’s done before? Is it something Safya would have done instead? The moment is tense in some ways, especially since Beatriz reprimands Blanca for her nail polish (contrasted with the, well, plain “elegance” of Beatriz’s hand here). It is, however, the most vulnerable we see Beatriz—even more so than when she’s openly sobbing in later scenes—and, to me, a visual representation of the unconditional love Blanca has for her mother.
01.05 - prissy and leonor discuss beatriz : I have less to say about this one, but the context is this scene was a bitch to shoot! It was originally in a different location, and I redid it in its entirety three times. This still isn’t right, but that was my mistake for going with a ton of white/cream. I do like this shot because of the depth, the colors, and the interaction between Leonor’s averted gaze and Prissy approaching with the sideways glance at her.
01.06 - arnaut returns to uspana : This is a beautiful daytime garden scene, but this final shot is my favorite. It’s established that Leonor is watching them from the moment they arrive, but we don’t see her face until the end, when little Abelina presents Arnaut with some flowers to cheer him up. What’s going through Leonor’s mind? She knows why he’s here. She knows how close he and her mother were. She knows he’s basically a foreigner at this point. She knows he’s a good father. Either way, it’s telling that hers is, to me, an unhappy, even negative expression.
01.07 - the family gathers for dinner : This scene is another than I redid because it wasn’t good enough. It still isn’t, but don’t tell past N. that! Anyway, the foreground-background interplay is what I like about this one. Visually, it’s interesting, but Arnaut having a breakdown while Mateo and Leonor convey, mostly, exhaustion … I dunno. I just like it. That and the blurry glasses and plates to remind us this table is set for a formal dinner no one felt like having. They’re more like anxious lingerers in a waiting room than dinner guests or reuniting family members.
01.08 - matias and sal have a moment : In retrospect, this is such a special scene. No one had all of the backstory on how Beatriz’s family came to be—how she ends up with these two men comforting each other outside her bedchamber, as it were. So, I wrote this hoping their dynamic would fill that void and show the product of decades of learning to live together. It’s also a rare opportunity (outside of the main story) that people who are a little bit more on Beatriz’s level talk frankly about her as a person, not as an iron lady or distant matriarch. Anyway, there are more visually interesting shots in this scene, but this one … It just arrests me, somehow. The look on Mathias’s face says it all. An exhale, finally.
01.09.1 - the day of the funeral arrives : I had to go back and pick this out because I forgot I’d split this scene into two posts! Freebie. I can’t say what I like so much. It’s an unusual angle, relatively speaking, and it has intersecting angles from the squareness of the bed, the carpet, their bodies. Something about Leonor’s expression visible in profile like that, and then the empty space of the bed … It focuses you somehow. The dialogue is melancholy and reflective, and the composition suits that to me. Of course, most likely, I stumbled across this angle because flipping face shots back and forth gets boring in a conversation scene!
01.09.2 - leonor makes a decision : I don’t even have anything clever to say about this one. I just love the bursts of yellow in this scene, and the fact that there’s a lemon tree to complement Leonor’s paint made it fun to shoot. This is another scene that underwent a redo, and part of that was moving this part of the conversation outside. I think it looks better that way. Certainly, the lighting was better! Maybe there’s some symbolism, too, with the fresh air and such. Maybe not. Reader’s choice, the postmodern way.

I'm finished with the builds for Spice Market №2 - I added a Chinese food stall right next to the old factory. I imagine that this was at some point an added garage that was converted at some point to the food stall. Now I only need to add some minor details and playtest the accessability of the build - but if everything goes well, I'll upload this lot sometime during next week.
This lot will be uploaded as a residential lot to avoid bugs connected with the newer lot types from For Rent and the new pack. The lot consists of at least 6 shops, an empty factory, an apartment and two townhouses with a rooftop terrace.

𝐍𝐎. 𝟑 ❛ 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐬 ❜ | RIVA DORATA, TARTOSA, MAY 1998
While serious publications prepared to cover the most prestigious premieres, interpret the thoughtful commentary of illustrious casts, and divine the future of cinema from the awards race, most people would encounter the Tartosa International Film Festival in pop culture. Accordingly, executives at entertainment giants Day One and MondoVibe had an unprecedented idea. Stephany Fox was as ubiquitous in Simerican culture news as her Tartosan counterpart, Giannino Adimari. Putting them together on one screen had never occurred to anyone. It was a smart move—an intercultural novelty, like the festival itself, that blended respective knowledge, style, and personas for a global audience. It was a lucrative move, too, with collaboration translating directly into cheap, constant, breathless coverage.
Entertainment, the spectacle and celebrity, piqued general interest more than the artistry. Everyday consumers may venture out to see a movie months later—perhaps Captivated for horror fans or Into the Wild for romantics, although sexy, gritty, action-packed thrillers like The Last Con and The Phoenix invariably outsold them these days—but wouldn’t recall having seen them first in festival coverage. On daytime television or in grocery store aisles, what they noticed were the famous and beautiful people whose names they, somehow, already knew. They tuned in for salacious gossip about their personal lives, all torrid affairs with co-stars and spiraling substance abuse and workplace calamities swept under the foreign label of “creative differences.” Photographs of attractive faces and physiques, glamorous attire, and adoring crowds caught the eye. Cheeky headlines shouting half-truths held it long enough to ensure they glimpsed an advertisement or two. If they wouldn’t flip to page six or sit down for a full segment, they would at least pause with a wistful gaze to wish they, too, were arriving in sunny Tartosa.

TRANSCRIPT:
STEPHANY | Hello from Day One, live in Tartosa! I’m Stephany Fox— GIANNINO | —and I’m Giannino Adimari, for MondoVibe! STEPHANY | It’s the first day of Tartosa’s annual International Film Festival. We’re at Riva Dorata this morning and, as you can see, a crowd’s already gathered on this beautiful overlook.
STEPHANY | The Tartosa Grand Hotel is well-known for its gorgeous views. The hotel’s signature speedboats ferry guests here from the mainland, meaning anyone can arrive in style, but— GIANNINO | And, actually, the Tartosa Grand Hotel is impossible to get into this time of year. Why? It’s reserved for the festival’s most special guests: golden ticket holders, the invitees.
STEPHANY | That’s right. Every other hotel and inn in Riva Dorata is booked up, too—it’s the people in this crowd, maybe with tickets to see the new films but most likely here to do some celebrity-spotting. This overlook is a go-to area for tourists and locals alike.
STEPHANY | Life in Riva Dorata is typically languid, relaxed, and quiet, but it comes alive in a new way for this springtime festival. GIANNINO | The locals are used to the fanfare and take pride in welcoming everyone—new faces from other places but also Tartosan artists here for a homecoming as well.
STEPHANY | He’s here with composer Lee Thompson and up-and-coming actress, Sierra Moss. Moss co-stars in The Last Con, a classic dramatic thriller from Teresa Salame. Thompson scored Hudson Waverly’s irreverent comedy, Trash Tease, also premiering this week.
GIANNINO | Which, oh, can I give my personal opinion, Stephany? STEPHANY | [Chuckles] I can’t stop you— GIANNINO | Waverly is a genius, and maybe a comedy deserves to finally win the Golden Laurel this year. STEPHANY | Maybe. That’s for this year’s jury to decide.
STEPHANY | The invite list has more than just industry people, though. While film folks are representing the “international” spirit of the festival, ambassadors in the form of bonafide royalty do it in a different way. GIANNINO | See, there’s the Renaldis from nearby Saocossaint looking stylish and ready for some festival fun! STEPHANY | Vivica Haywood is over there—a celebrity stylist, here as one of this year’s “friend of the panel” guest.
STEPHANY | Armorican actress Anita Garcia is a panel guest as well. GIANNINO | Can you tell us what that means, Stephany? STEPHANY | Organizers, led by producer and festival president Sanja Dinapoli, as well as artistic director Bruno Raffaele Como, send two kinds of invites: to those screening films and to “friends of the panel.” People who will, as they say, “enhance the festival.”
GIANNINO | There, Max Kyle and Lena Scott! They were on MondoVibe’s festival “ones to watch” list. Plus a spread in Vogue Simerica last month and a profile on Scott Group in Venture before that. STEPHANY | Kyle’s screening an important documentary. It’s wonderful to see people who have such immense success in really powerful sectors put their energy toward, not just the arts, but social justice. GIANNINO | Ah, yes, true. Fashion is icing on the cake!
GIANNINO | Speaking of fashionable people: another princess! STEPHANY | Many countries are represented at the festival, some unofficially like with Princess Leonor of Uspana. She’s attending as a plus-one for an A-list invitee, Renzo Ledford. He’s debuting two films— GIANNINO | Maybe making up for time away building a family with the princess! MondoVibe covered that. Two movies, two babies! STEPHANY | How about that?
STEPHANY | The most esteemed arrival today is Queen Nicola of Corrilea, who has been a fixture of the global film industry for, well, six decades. She’s an active member of Corrilea’s royal family but also the boards of several festivals, including Tartosa’s.
GIANNINO | And cameras love her just as much now as they did before her retirement! A living legend. Maybe the fountain of youth isn’t just a myth after all, and she—
STEPHANY | Here’s Yuling Zhao. She’s premiering a buzzy period drama. Having already established herself as a talented storyteller, it— GIANNINO | Kiara Bello! Tartosan beauty. Why haven’t we seen her on screen lately? I blame the comedian, who many say isn’t even funny— STEPHANY | Maybe inspiring attendees, like Yuling Zhao, can get her back on screen soon. The festival is famous for networking.
GIANNINO | What comes after this parade, Stephany? STEPHANY | The board and jury meet while these stars settle in behind the hotel’s walls. Of course, we can assume many won’t get much rest before the big opening dinner this evening. GIANNINO | Hair and makeup! If we’re lucky, we may glimpse some black tie outfits while they’re filing into Palazzo Ofelia.
STEPHANY | Oh, look, Tyler’s starting her snap interviews soon. GIANNINO | Rae Donovan! Now, this is a big comeback year for her. STEPHANY | And, when we come back: over to you, Tyler.
My first build, I can't believe it. I can't build at all so this was a huge challenge for me. It's a very simple building without any cc, dont judge me I've never build from scratch so it isn't perfect but I'm kind of proud of it so I wanted to share it maybe someone makes use of it :). I built it for a small business to be a elementary teacher in my Silent Pines save. This build can be downloaded on my gallery (swinki4). I also created a cute teacher that is available on my gallery, she's perfect for this school and is without any cc as well.
ps. Cafeteria stand is not functional because I made mistake and instead of a stand from High school years I placed the one from Discover University, just replace it.
looking at everyone's beautiful sims and stories is really making me want to dive in and start posting my own stuff!! but the Perfectionist in me really wants to figure out how to make my screenshots actually look good first and hoo boy, there is a lot I still want to learn about how to do that

Transcript below the cut:
Ezra: Thanks for coming over. I know I’m probably the last person you wanted to see. Atlas: Not the last. Definitely the bottom of the list, but not last. Ezra: [awkward laugh] Atlas: …
Ezra: Um, so, how are you and your sister? Atlas: Are you kidding me? Ezra: What? Atlas: Can we cut the bullshit? We are not old friends catching up. Just tell me why you’re here.
Ezra: I moved to the Bay a few years ago. I swear, I had no idea you were out here, let alone that I was dating your sister-in-law. Atlas: I don’t understand. You left? Turned your back on all of it? Ezra: Yes. The town, the church, everything. Same as you. Atlas: Why? What changed your mind?
Ezra: I wouldn’t even know where to begin. But Henry was a big part of why I started questioning things, and then— Atlas: Henry? Ezra: [nods] He had a really hard time after you left. I realize now that talking him into staying was the worst thing I could’ve done. He was so unhappy. Atlas: Was? Is he…?
Ezra: No. No no no, sorry, he’s okay. He’s good now. Atlas: [sigh of relief] Ezra: About a year before I left, after a particularly awful night, I gave him what I could of my savings and helped him leave.
Atlas: So, how do you know he’s good now? Ezra: [pointing] Behind you.
Ezra: He traveled all over and sent me postcards along the way. Atlas: … Ezra: He found you, in San Myshuno. Atlas: Really? He never contacted me. Ezra: He said he saw you with someone, and that you looked happy. He didn’t want to disrupt your life, so he stayed away.
Ezra: Eventually, he settled down in Henford of all places. He has a small cottage where he raises chickens. Prize-winning eggs apparently. Atlas: [chuckles] That’s perfect. He always dreamed of a quiet life in the country. Sprawling green hills and blue skies and a bunch of smelly animals. For a while, he was obsessed with the idea of raising llamas.
Ezra: Really? He never told me that. Atlas: Not surprising. You always had a way of shitting on his dreams, tearing them down. Ezra: [incredulous] I did not. Atlas: Oh please, you did so. He thought the world of you, and you used him.
Ezra: I— Atlas: You are a self-righteous asshole who told yourself that you were looking out for him, “guiding him”, but the truth is, you made him feel small. In fact, I think you liked that he was gay because it made you feel superior. And now, what, you want a goddamn medal for getting him out of there when you were the reason he was stuck there in the first place?! You never cared about him. You just needed to ease your own conscience because you could no longer deny the damage you caused.
Ezra: You have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m the one that’s been by his side all these years. You’re the one who left! Atlas: I had no choice! And I tried to take him with me. But you stopped him. You made him feel like there was something wrong with him. You didn’t stay by his side because you cared about him. You kept him around to feed your fucking ego.
Atlas: How bad did things have to get, huh? How bad before you realized you couldn’t “fix” him? Before you realized you’re the one who fucking broke him?!
Ezra: Get out of my house. Atlas: Gladly.
Atlas: Stay the fuck away from me and my family. That includes Iris and Spencer.
