I've been quiet about my work for a while. Mostly because I've been practicing some techniques. And I’ve still got a long way to perfecting those techniques, BTW. I just thought I'd share... Mahjeena Jahrool Of all the Mahjeem, Jahrool is the most enigmatic, and the least mentioned, character from the old stories. Yet, she was likely one of the most gifted Mahjuti practitioners to have ever lived. At least, that’s what the word was in every tavern from Purush to Kusht. The truth was a little less impressive, though quite unique, in its own way. Jahrool had a blue Azuranium crystal ball. And with that ball she could see into the spirit worlds and the subtle sub-worlds beyond. And she rarely, if ever, liked what she saw. Still shot from the upcoming animated Oracle Deck, The Mahjuti Cards
Here’s a little video about me and my work...
Satsuki Beni is one of the main characters in Veil of the Gods- my visual novel.
I’m loving working with mocap...
Every Daeva cuts a different path. At the instant when the Divine Grace consumed her, Ferneetri Vas, for example, found herself imbued with an overwhelming compassion for all sentient beings. Naturally, the intensity of her Mercy burned fiercest for those who were struggling on the path, as she once had. She decided to focus her attention on individuals who were obviously challenged by their journey.
In due course, bearing Her new name Vineetri Dasi, She visited Her benevolence upon a small clique of deserving seekers who willingly called themselves Her Humble Devotees. In return for Her limitless beneficence, the Devotees of Vineetri erected a handful of shrines and temples in Her honour. They dwelled near these holy sanctuaries and lived exemplary lives of service to others. There are countless stories that praise Her divine intervention and the good works of Her followers.
And for a long while Vineetri was content to allow them to bow down to her. That is, until she encountered a lost soul who had been wandering in the darkness for more than a hundred years. Anander Fereesh changed everything.

Exhausted from another fourteen-hour shift, Yonani Khan sat back in her favourite armchair with a sigh. She only meant to rest her eyes for a moment, but she slipped into a deep, coma-like sleep straight away.
Yona rarely recalled her dreams. She joked, that there wasn’t anything worth remembering about them. This one, however, was different. She was walking along an inexplicably familiar hallway lit by piercing cyan. As much as it felt like home, she had no memory of the place and that startled her a little.
A large glass bubble enclosed her head and the air pumping into it was sweet. The scented freshness reminded her of the pristine mountain ranges that stand at the edge of the known world. Yona frowned.
How could that be? She’d never actually been anywhere near the southern continent. She’d never been out of the city. Her head was buzzing with questions. A little stab of anxiety fluttered her heartbeat. Somehow, she suppressed her confusion and determined to walk on without distraction. An instinct told her, that she could not afford to be late.
That first sleep-vision was the most straightforward one. After that her dreams got really, really interesting.
Here's a portrait of one of the central characters from my upcoming scifi-fantasy Graphic Novel- a fellow called Theo Metaxis. Is he a good guy? Or is he a bad guy? That depends on who you talk to...Inspired by Japanese print designers- especially Kawase Hasui, who's my absolute hero at the moment.
Veil of the Gods takes place in an alternate cosmos called Eridu, where the rules of our reality do not always apply. Some of the inhabitants have acquired specialist skills, either by studying the Mahjuti Technology or by being born with a gift for it.
Ferneetri Vas became aware of her talent for Mahjuti at a very young age. However, her uncanny abilities only attracted, judgement, scorn, and ridicule from those around her. Her family refused to accept that she was a natural Mahjee, preferring to think of her as afflicted and damaged. They did everything in their power to discourage her abilities, including locking her away from the world for years, hoping that her interest in the ancient technology would pass. It didn’t.
As soon as she was old enough Ferneetri left them. And she never looked back.

Whipjack Thraw the Cacodaemon.
*sound on
Countless ages ago a disgruntled Cacodaemon retreated from the world to seek refuge deep in his underground lair. And there he would have remained, at peace, far from the squabbling masses of humans who had crowded him out, but for the appearance of a certain Mahjee who was looking to make a name for himself.
This Mahjee worked a Mahjuti Meta-Glyph on Whipjack that bound him within a space-time bubble. In other words, he doomed the Daemon to repeat the same 30 seconds or so of his life over and over, endlessly into eternity. Without respite.
The trap took Whipjack completely by surprise. He’d just finished a poetic warning to the Mahjee that Cacodaemons are immortal and that no Mahjuti tricks could harm him, when a series of glowing Glyphs appeared before his eyes. The ancient daemon, who long ago had proved he was invincible, found himself cocooned in a veil of shimmering sky-blue light. And that was that. He was trapped.
Glyph 999 is one of the most potent tools a Mahjuti practitioner can acquire. In essence a Glyph is a hack into the metaphorical operating system of the Reality Mesh. The technology behind the creation and use of glyphs is too extensive to explain here. In simple terms, however, it requires that the Mahjee who constructs or wields the glyph must be meticulous in its creation. The slightest error can generate unintended ripples of cause and effect that may return to the Mahjee in unexpected and sometimes disastrous ways.

So, for some months now I've been keeping my work under wraps while I’ve been minting NFTs or Nifties, as I prefer to call them. Thanks to the NFT explosion I've been called to explore some exciting new mediums.
If you don't know what a Nifty is, don't worry I'll post a full explanation of this concept later. Let's just say for now that they fit perfectly with the story of Veil of the Gods.
My latest obsession ties in beautifully with NFTs. It is Mocap, or motion capture technology. It's quite a simple process really if you have an iPhone with a true depth camera. Android and the others just can't do this sort of work.
First, I sculpt a character in a 3D modelling programme. Then I take a reference video of my own face as I speak the character's lines. I drop the animation files over the top of the 3D sculpture, render frame by frame, then tidy up the files in photoshop.
After that my partner adds the vocals we've recorded via Final Cut Pro, while I start preparing the next animation. I suppose the tricky bit is digital sculpting, lighting and camera work within the 3D environment. That's taken me years to learn.
Anyway, here's one of the sketches for a character. Stay tuned. He'll be speaking in the next few days. And you might be surprised at how life-like he looks when animated.
Oh, and he’s available now as a rare NFT collectible on Hic Et Nunc https://hicetnunc.art/objkt/568738
Theo Metaxis, a.k.a. the Metamahjee, is a philosopher, traveller and supremely experienced practitioner of the arcane science of Mahjuti. He was once a loyal servant of the Emperor of Purush but after a falling out Metaxis was declared an outlaw, a heretic and apostate. The powerful Religious Sect known as the White Jattamansi have placed a price on his head, but Theo always has a trick or two in store for their hired assassins.

I’m having so much fun creating the cells for Veil of the Gods. I forget to post them for you to see. Sorry.
The Magician- the Mahjee in the world of Veil of the Gods- sometimes needs to look inward to create the most potent spells. I'm commencing a short but much needed break from computer screens and social media as of today. But I'll be back.
I’ve been busy. A couple of my novels have been taking up all my time, so Veil of the Gods has had to go on the back-burner for a while. I’m still working away on this project and it’s got me hooked. And I can’t wait to share the next chapter with you all.
I've been quiet on social media for a while, juggling three major projects that all demand my attention. I had decided to put Veil of the Gods on hold until Amazon approved it. That process has taken just over 18 months, but at last Veil of the Gods is going to be listed properly on Amazon under comic books and graphic novels.
They make it hard for Indie Publishers.
So, the release date for Chapter Two draws closer. Hurrah!
To celebrate I created this portrait of Nadine Granie, a principal character.
Two eyes for looking. One eye for seeing.
For those of you who love magical symbolism.
