I participated in the TGCF Mini Bang 2022 as an artist for Withering Lotus, a modern heavy metal au fic written by Yabanned and beta-read by Leonidskies!

Working with Ban on this series has been an absolute joy and I love this fic and everything about the work process more than I can describe. Ban is a lovely writer and I recommend this fic to everyone who enjoys mostly fluffy and healing modern au fics with a twinge of angst! The Xie Lian lotus cover art was based on an idea and a sketch from Ban!

TGCF Mini Bang 2022 collection

GetBackers headshots since I finished rewatching the anime a bit ago with a friend. Some of these men were impossible to draw!! Had to redraw Akabane 3 times and I'm still not sure if I captured him well.

I have the opposite problem. The task of picking a quote to put on the summary section fills me with indescribable horror. Suddenly, nothing I wrote feels impactful enough to stand on its own or catch people's attention, or if it does, it's something I adamantly refuse to let people read without context. On the other hand, summarizing comes easily to me, though I've been told multiple times that I tend to make things sound better than they are with my pitches, which is rather unfortunate. I guess that, as OP said, summarizing is an acquired skill, and when you built it up too much or faster than your other skills, you condemn your work to always fall short.

Lot of posts circulating about AO3 summaries, both of the “begging people to please write them” variety and the “helpful summary tips” variety, but I haven’t seen a lot that bring up the positive meta-implications of summaries.

See, summarizing something effectively is a specific writing skill, one that has to be practiced and honed intentionally. It’s hard to pick up really good summarizing skills passively the way one might pick up say, dialogue flow. And that means that a fic with a good summary indicates a writer with at least some intention behind their craft. Off the top of my head, a good summary usually indicates that the fic will also have solid editing, proofreading, pacing, and structure, which is why the mere existence of a decent summary is as much of a draw as the contents of that summary.

Bacterian

Tbh this isn't that bad. The shorts are a bit short Ig but not out of reason. What gives this outfit the 👀 energy imo are the long gloves and thigh high boots, tragically not seen in this photo 😔 I'll give it a 6.5/10

Absent minded cat (idk if it has a proper name?

I'm begging you give this man a kirugumi or something!!!! This is not a cat! This is a bodysuit with catlike features! This is the most covered he'll be on this list but somehow I feel like I'm seeing way too much, and that's saying something. 2/10

Uramino kun

I'm not the kind to dismiss the appeal of less conventionally appealing creatures, but let's not kid ourselves; bagworms aren't cute. Unless you find pinecones cute ig. I do appreciate having even more leg from bacterian but otherwise this is a miss for me. 4/10

God of Shiso

I'm in love with this look. And that probably sounds hypocritical since this might be the most revealing outfit yet but hhhhh muscle,,, I think I also like it because it's probably the closest thing to a normal outfit on here, although maybe not on a kids show lol. My favorite. 10/10

Right Left Man

Another banger!! I'll be honest, idk why this does it for me. I think probably those straps on his arms that really accentuate his muscles? And the thigh highs are back! I know he is a caution sign but damn if he's not the hottest caution sign I've ever seen! 9/10

Bonjour man

I feel the same way as Uramichi does about this look lol. I know a lot of folks like it but I cannot stand it. I want to burn it. The shorts being the color of the french flag is a nice touch but the color and stripe pattern clashes SO BAD with those of the shirt. It looks like someone gave you two minutes to buy an outfit that you felt says "France" from your local thrift store. I can't even appreciate all the extra muscle on display because they're being drowned out the anguished tortured SCREAMS coming from this disaster of a costume. "Kill me," it says, "I don't want to suffer anymore." But we're in different worlds, so I can't offer it the sweet release of death. I can only bear witness to its suffering while I seethe with hatred. 0/10

TGCF Revised Edition Translation

Greetings, friends! I figure it's about time for this.

For the last 6 months I've been working on a full translation of the newest 2024 revised edition of TGCF, since it has so thoroughly taken over my life and well, since nobody has done a full translation of the revised edition yet, I thought I'd start one.

Since Chinese isn't my native language, translating takes me a long time, and I have to fit it around other life commitments. But, rest assured, I do not use MTL for any of my work! As of writing this I've translated up to the end of the Ghost City arc, but most of it still needs editing, so I'm starting by uploading just the first few chapters.

I hope you guys enjoy the new added scenes as much as I have been, because damn there's so much more to love, even in just the first few arcs.
