Fourth Wing Characters And Their Red Flags (Iron Flame Spoilers)

Violet: really bad at basic math (6+1=??), constantly interrupts people when they’re about to spill the tea, caused a questionable stain on the Tyrrendor Throne.

Xaden: unresolved mommy issues, really bad at 20 questions, stuck in his emo phase, has Endgame by Taylor Swift on repeat so much it seeps into his vocabulary, inappropriate use of the communal gym showers, self-sacrificial to a fault.

Dain: patchy beard, memory thief, used his nepo baby connections to get the wingleader position even though he sucks at it, has a low key crush on Xaden (the true enemies to lovers all along).

Jesinia: writes Xaden & Violet fanfiction with explicit scenes during work hours.

Andarna: forgets to take her melatonin and makes it everyones problem.

Tairn: major exasperated dad energy, v emotional and impulsive, unresolved trauma around Naolin, superiority complex when it comes to gryphons.

Sgael: Not that good at making choices.

Nolon: HIPAA violations for sure, was the true weakest link all along.

Caroline Ashton: dared to be in the book more than Garrick???? Literally wtf.

Daddy Sorrengail: literally doesn’t have a name? Speaks in code to his children for plot reasons only. Weak heart (sure buddy).

Rhiannon: Makes every other character look bad because she’s an actual angel.

Hear that??? THAT'S THE SOUND OF MY HEART BEING SHATTERED BY THIS BOOK FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME-

I think first and foremost this fandom needs to remember that everyone has faults. And by everyone, I mean the people within this fandom, the characters in ACOTAR, and SJM herself. I think that we need to remember that despite all the character’s faults, we kept reading. We kept reading because we like the plot, we like the inner circle, we like Feyre, Rhysand, Cassian, Nesta, Azriel, Mor, Emerie, Gwyn… we like the universe that Sarah J Maas has created. (Anf if you’re that group of people that reads for the sake of hating it or only read on because of so and so character, that’s okay too.) At the end of the day, all of us still read on. It doesn’t matter how problematic you think Sarah J Maas, she still deserves our thanks for creating a universe that we love, characters that we relate with, and a community that we get to share in. People come into this fandom because they have something to say about the book, not to argue over who’s right and who’s wrong. It’s fine for a huge fandom to not have a generally agreed on opinion, it’s fine for people to share theories, opinions, love and hate certain characters, find certain actions problematic, that is totally fine and is what the fandom is for. But a fandom is supposed to be a loving and accepting community, and when you see people leaving this fandom, leaving social media, shouldn’t we also self-reflect? When you see such a clear line between pros and antis, so many people blocking each other, so much hate, isn’t time to do something about it?

Everyone has good intentions and I know that. When it's no longer about the ships and the theories, everyone in this fandom is the sweetest person. But it's always about the ships and always about the problems, and there's so much hate isn't it time to just wonder why? I dont think it's any single person's fault. Sarah J Maas is human, she doesn't wake up one day and decide that the abuser that people characterize Rhysand as should get together with the heroine. Or that it's such a beautiful day for her main characters to be neglectful rulers who are so selfish that they had a bargain to die without regard for their people.

I get that authors should be called out for poor representation or some other sorts of "problematic actions" but I think this fandom has overanalyzed the books to a point where everything is problematic and everything is either this or that and if it's not it's Sarah J Maas's fault it's that person you just blocked's problem. And maybe I'm being naive and maybe this is what the freedom of speech and all that crap entails. But other fandoms aren't like this. Other authors have faults too, but they're never overanalyzed to this point. People love certain characters over others too, but they don't have the entire fandom divided because you either like Nesta or you don't.

And I think that just because you can filter out anti tags and "the block button is right there"... is that really any better?

This isn't right. This isn't a community.

And I honestly don't even know what tags to use at this point because it's not gonna reach the target audience regardless because either the anti tags are blocked or the pro tags are blocked and there's fucking wars with actual people dying right now and we're fighting over fictional characters. And I really want to be nice and fair and reason with people and actually DO SOMETHING instead of just talking about it, but I am also so, so mad.

Honestly I'm tired of all acotar discourse centering on moral righteousness and who is good and who is bad. Like leave me alone and let me enjoy my shitty fantasy novels without having to justify why I like it and the characters in it. Acotar is not a moral statement, it doesn't stand for anything. It's simply just a fucking story that, let's be honest, is made for stay at home wine moms who want to imagine fucking a dark haired bat boy and if you disagree youre probably wrong.

The Book Of Breathings Foreshadowed Feysand, Nessian and Elriel

so we know the book of breathings spoke to the feyre in acomaf. but i never see anyone talking about what it said?!?!

“Hello, sweet thing. Hello, lady of night, princess of decay. Hello, fanged beast and trembling fawn. Love me, touch me, sing me.”

Lets analyse:

"hello sweet thing" - basically just cooing at feyre, it clearly likes her as it sung to her.

"lady of night" - "love me" - feyre

high lady of night court, love being a big thing she struggles with in acomaf, her growing love for rhys and her fading love for tamlin.

"princess of decay" - "touch me" - nesta

she's referred to as Lady Death, touch is how her and cassians relationship started, the whole just sex no emotion business.

"trembling fawn" - "sing me" - elain

is referred to as a fawn several times and described having doe eyes, including multiple times in contrast to azriel and his darkness. sing, well azriel is a shadowsinger but even if it meant literal singing, sjm did say we would possibly see azriel sing in future.

"fanged beast and trembling fawn" - what does that quote remind you of? ah yes "death and his lovely fawn"

the order in which the archerons are described also matches the order of their books!

BONUS - it also ties with the archerons being part fae theory!

basically that theory is that the archeron mother was part fae or had fae lineage. it makes sense to why she was so cold to her children, but loved their father - it was because he was her mate.

thats why she stayed in human lands, didn't tell about her fae lineage and is why she didn't love her children as much as her husband. she put her mate above all else. and the books did say the cauldron sometimes purely chooses mates based on who would make the strongest offspring. and who are three of the most powerful fae alive because they were made by the cauldron itself or all high lords? the archerons

the book of breathings is made of two halfs and could tie the fae and humans together by some human born sisters with fae lineage ;)
