ah. she’s blushing.

the pretty pink that paints her cheeks are all that you can think of as you continue to stare unabashedly, leaving the work before you untouched despite the echoing clicks of tongues as your colleagues shake their head, sounding their disapproval.

your infatuation with keqing is well known in the office and it’s as clear as day to everyone except the purple-haired girl herself.

you wonder what could it be that your supervisor, beidou, is saying to her to make her blush like that. perhaps she’s brought up an old memory or a minor flaw in the otherwise perfect report keqing submitted. you wouldn’t know. you’re not only too far away to hear, you weren’t even close enough as a friend to either woman to be privy to such conversations.

yet you find your eyes widening as your mouth forms an ‘o’ in surprise as keqing starts striding in your direction. her fingers clenched tightly around a can of coffee that just so happens to be your favourite.

“here, this is for you,” keqing states bluntly as she holds out the can to you.

your mouth remains agape but no response forms in your mouth,

“h-hey, don’t look at me like that, will you?!” her voice spikes sharply as she presses the can against your cheek. the sudden coolness of metal evoking an involuntary shudder down your spine.

“thank you?” you manage to say, your words coming out more like a query. you accept the can with both hands as politely as you can, lowering your head slightly. it feels like fireworks are going off in your gut and the rapid thudding of your heartbeat in your ears were the sounds of pretty colours lighting up the sky.

you barely hear the giggles from your coworker in the cubicle beside you as keqing smiles at you. a small smile that’s more of a mere quirk at the ends of her lips.

perhaps your answering grin was too eager for keqing’s taste because as soon as you do, she’s scurrying away, pigtails swaying.

May I get Hu Tao, Yanfei, and Ningguang’s reaction to a selective mute reader saying their first words to them? Bonus points if it’s something completely random and out of context like “hey look at those finches”

A/n: ah I wanted to write more for Hu Tao but I also didn’t want to neglect Yanfei and Ningguang 🥲

• Hu Tao didn't mind that you never talked. She adopted the mindset that if you were silent, then she’d just have to talk enough for the both of you. Everyday was full of noise with Hu tao around.

• She was insensitive at first because she didn’t know any better. She never considered the fact that you might be mute, she always assumed it was by choice. After a couple of weeks, her antics died down but continued to hang around you by habit.

• Hu Tao was initially drawn in by you because you were so quiet and seemingly unaffected by her pranks. Someone immune to her tricks was impossible so she made it her goal to infiltrate your social bubble.

• Little did she know she ended up in a relationship with you because you were the only one who could tolerate her.

You grew accustomed to your odd relationship with Hu Tao. She would find you on the streets and follow you for hours, chatting about anything and everything. You allowed it because sometimes the silence was lonely, and Hu Tao made you feel all bubbly inside. 

“So today there was this unbelievable dude. Ayaaa~ he just makes me mad thinking about him. He slammed the door on my face and everything,” She told you an unworldly story that sounded almost unbelievable. “I wish you were there, you could’ve defended me right?”

You just sat there in silence staring at your feet. “Ah- that’s what I expected,” Hu Tao almost sounded somber at your unresponsiveness. “I guess it can’t be helped, you accept me for who I am at least and that’s all that matters. I mean, that’s a pretty big feat. not that many can stand my big personality.” She tried cheering herself up. 

“Wow look at those finches.” You said nonchalantly pointing at a nearby pond. Hu Tao interrupted her own thoughts, not even paying attention to what you said, just that you said something in general. She was in absolute shock, you won’t speak to her after all the awful pranks, but you would speak for a bird?

“What the-! You just spoke didn’t you?!” She was in disbelief. “I knew you could speak, you were just shy! Say can you speak again? Say ‘Hu Tao’ for me.” She wouldn’t stop talking at a raised volume, you honestly didn’t see the big deal.

• Yanfei wasn't the most talkative, so you'd have some holes of silence in your conversations. But she was willing to keep up with you even if she was the only one talking.

• You had a knack for pissing off the people of Liyue because you never responded. Yanfei being a legal advisor, heard quite a bit of negative rumors about you. She thought maybe she could break your shell and prevent anymore legal catastrophes caused by your silence.

• Yanfei began randomly making appearances in your life. Once she got to know you, she knew you were nothing but a gentle soul. She became your guardian angel in a way, and with her loud mouth and knowledge would defend you if anyone spoke poorly on your name.

• Her protective instinct over you became second nature. And spending that much time with you on her mind made her develop feelings for you via proximity.

Yanfei had a spare key to your home, sometimes she would just visit to rant to you about people who wouldn’t follow her advice. She found it nice that you just listened and never talked back or put your two cents to the matter.

She lounged on the same couch as you, sitting on the opposite end resting her legs on your lap. You merely listened to her like always like her little therapist. “You won’t believe this one guy. Ah, I can’t stand how stupid some of my clients can be.” She seemed stressed. 

“I mean seriously? I tell them one simple instruction to remain silent and you know what they do?” She waited as if she were going to receive a response. “Go straight and report everything to the Millelth... How can they expect me to get them out of that? All I can do now is try to lighten their sentence.”

“Wow, that guy is seriously dumb.” You said interrupting Yanfei’s story. It took her a moment of silence to process what you had said.

“Ah- you spoke,” Yanfei had a contorted face of confusion. “Wait a minute, you spoke!” She was freaking out. She immediately sat up from her position, all over you in curiosity. She had an undying quench to learn every detail about you, and to find out you can speak? Mindblowing.

“Wait so have you been able to speak this entire time? Why did you decide to speak now after all this time? Can you speak now? Are you afraid to speak?” She asked you a barrage of nonstop questions. To tease her more, you chose to not answer any of them.

• Ningguang was silent with you, only talking when necessary. This lady specialized in haggling, so when there was no voice of response it made it somewhat awkward for her.

• Ningguang honestly found your silence charming. It prevented you from saying stupid quips which were her pet peeve. But your silence was a double-edged sword as you often got taken advantage of.

• Ningguang would often speak on your behalf. If someone tried to verbally assault you she would bring her reign of terror on them. The condescending words from the Tianquan hurt them like poison.

• Ningguang admitted she took more than just a liking to your presence even if it were uneventful. You were a source of comfort for her.

Ningguang treated you like a puppy. You followed her around like a loyal dog because she defended you. However, It was a mutual commitment, only because she secretly enjoyed the power she had over you.

You sat beside her while she processed some paperwork, a cup full of tea beside her. Sometimes she would ask common questions such as what food you’d like for tonight. But otherwise, it was dead silent.

Not that you didn’t appreciate spending time in her office, it’s just that it occasionally got boring just watching Ningguang do her paperwork. It was quiet, away from the noise on Liyue’s streets, but too quiet. You could almost hear the echo of your breathing.

“Say, do you want me to preorder something from Wanmin? I’m getting hungry,” You said. Ningguang almost dropped her feathered pen at the sound of your voice. She looked at you fascinated, but it quickly died down.

“Wow, so you can talk?” She yawned, her maturity level not willing to overreact at the revelation. She didn’t even answer your question. “Well you could’ve fooled me. I won’t pressure you to continue but you have a lovely voice, it would be nice to hear it more often.”

💓 First realizes it when she was napping with you.

You two had been becoming closer and closer, and more often than not Ganyu was really happy to spend time with you, her close friend outside work! You give her Qingxin, always make sure that she’s not overworking, and she feels comfortable around you to rant about her fears. And you listen to her wholeheartedly.

She feels so lucky to have you.

It’s just another day, both of you taking an afternoon nap. But for once, Ganyu woke up earlier than she used to.

And, well, it seems that your body had fell halfway along your nap, your head now on Ganyu’s lap.

Your gentle snores, the way your face held a never seen before peacefulness, the rise and fall of your chest. All of this was enchanting to Ganyu, and she couldn’t help but imprint this sight in her mind.

All of a sudden, there was this thought that passes through her mind.

“I wanna kiss y/n. And cuddle a lot with y/n.”

AHHAH CUE PANIC. She obviously knows about romance stuff but she’s never felt it till now. A shame that you’re not awake to see her cute blushing face now.

💖 When you carry her to bed

Ganyu overworks we all know that. So just imagine her, working overtime at home on a Friday night, trying to clear her last few documents that need to be signed, checked and cleared.

All while fighting her sleepiness, since she didn’t sleep in the afternoon.

However, as she was about got Qingxin tea for an energy boost, she most definitely did not expect you to sneak up behind her and pick her up, literally.

“Ah, y/n! Put me down, I still have some work to do!”

A smile, a chuckle, and your cheeky tone rang out as you chastised her for working too hard, telling her that she “should really take it easy, besides I need my dose of Ganyu!”

All she could do is to relent to your care, her hands on her face, furiously blushing.

Ah. Of course.

This isn't the first time someone had rejected who he truly was. Who in the right mind would love a mere puppet? Maybe he shouldn't have revealed this truth he oh so despises.

He thought, that maybe, you were different, that you'd accept him and his feelings, not as The Balladeer or as the Shogun's prototype, but as Kunikuzushi, the forevermore chalked embodiment with a soul longing for appreciation.

But boy, was he wrong.

"I'm sorry, Kuni-, I mean, Scaramouche. But I simply wish to live in peace with my family." His arms stiffed under your sorrowful gaze as you handed him back the bouquet he bought for you. "And, being with you will prevent me from doing that."

"...I see." He looked away as he somehow heard his heart crack into small pieces.

"D-don't get me wrong!" You flailed your arms in concern, "You're a good person! But, I'm afraid I can't overlook your title as a Harbinger..."

You both had gone silent after. Well what could you say? You can't just apologize for breaking a man's heart. Especially to someone who's already as fragile as he is.

You felt your eyes widen when he slowly started approaching your figure. "What are you-"

You were cut off as he patted your head with a small rare smile upon his features.

"It's okay. Your cautiousness is one of the things I liked about you after all." He retracted his hand as he stepped back, slowly donning his hat once again. "I guess, this is farewell, as Kunikuzushi atleast." You noticed his hand gripped the bouquet tightly as he bowed towards you, before he turned around and started walking away, leaving you under the falling petals of sakuras.

He slowly writhed in pain as he looked at you interact with Gorou. You both looked terribly down for each other, it was so obvious that you harbored feelings for each other that the whole resistance army ships you both.

He clutches the bamboo flute you had made for him specifically in his hand, reminding himself that not all hope has been lost, especially with the look of adoration you adorned him with as he played the flute during a sunset in Watatsumi Island.

"Y/n." You heard him call out from up the trees as you were making your way towards the camp.

"Oh, Kazuha." You smiled as you waved at him, which he took as signal to jump down in front of you.

"There's something I wanna tell you."

"What a coincidence. Me too!" You laughed a bit, too giddily...he thought. "You can go first though."

"I- uh, no. You can go first." He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. Could you possibly be...?

"O-oh well, actually..." You put your arms behind your back as your face flushed a bit. Kazuha gulped at your actions. Are you actually gonna...?

"Me and Gorou started dating!" You giggled happily, as he froze in shock, but alas, you didn't notice. "I actually wanted to tell you this quite a bit ago, since you're a close friend of ours, but-"

The rest of your words were tuned out as Kazuha stood completely still, not quite processing your words.

"You guys...are dating...?" He repeated, still not believing.

You stopped your babbling as you looked at him with a raised brow. "Yeah...we are. Are you okay? You don't look too well." You stepped closer to inspect his horrified look.

His doubts and thoughts spiraled as he tried to wrap his head around those words. He couldn't believe it. No way, he can't. He couldn't believe that...

Childe

"Bleeghhhh! You'll never catch me!" Ajax stuck out a tongue as he dodged a snowball you had threw at him. "You always speak way to soon!" You ran behind a rock to dodge one of his throws as you scooped up another batch of snow.

Playing with him, never felt cold. Even in the everlasting cold winters in Schneznaya, simply being in his presence was warm and delightful, almost like a fireplace, haha. Kinda ironic, considering the sudden chill you felt down to the very bottom of your being when he walked past you silently after missing in the forest for 3 days straight.

He changed.

Just what had happened during those 3 days? It all still remains a mystery to you and his neighbourhood.

You frowned as he appeared before you once again, this time wearing an all too familiar uniform. Way proudly. Too proudly.

"Of course, you became a Harbinger. Of course." You sighed, disappointed with his choices. Where was the boy you loved who would always bring hot bread from his home to yours? And who was this man named Childe, in front of your doorstep?

"I-" His smile fell at your expression. "Aren't you proud?" You looked down at your feet as you spoke up, "I...how could i be proud? When you're now affiliated with the Fatui, as one of their lords at that?"

He blinked. Was this because he had stopped playing with you a few years back? "Are you...angry with me joining them?"

You looked at his lightless eyes as you cupped his face with gentle hands. "It's more like...I feel sad."

"About what?"

"It's nothing you have to worry about." You stepped back onto the other side of the doorstep, keeping your silent pleas for him to come back near your heart, long decided to be unsaid. "It's better to not be know, as it'll probably affect your line of work." You smiled as you tried to close the door, but suddenly his hand had stopped it.

"What are you saying?? I came here since I felt that..." He frowned. "That you felt the same way."

"What way? You mean loving you?"

"Yes."

"Childe." You stared at him blankly. "I'm engaged."

And he fell down into misery, yet again.

"The fireworks are as spectacular as always, Yoimiya." You lifted your gaze to the sky blooming with colorful lights, "It seems you've went after a romantic theme for today." You say as you spotted multiple heart-shaped explosions in the sky.

"Oh, that's- uhmm..." Yoimiya looked down at her feet, with an uncharacteristically shy voice. "It's just..."

"Oya?" You felt your lips tug into a smirk. "Did our Queen of Narukami find herself a little crush? Mind telling me who has the honor of catching the attention of her majesty?"

"Eh???!" Her eyes widened as she felt herself get hotter.

"Pfft, you should really look at yourself right now." You laughed a bit at her sudden shyness.

You blinked at her demeanour. "Not if you're uncomfortable with it."

"It's fine." She put down her sparklers as she stood up, fully taking the view of the fireworks. "This person...has always been by my side." She started. "They...had always supported me with my passion for fireworks. Even though I failed many times, resulting in some severe burns, they were always the one patching me up, and telling me that I shouldn't give up, even if I didn't plan to, hehe."

You felt your chest tighten as you connected the dots. There's no way she's talking about...

"Hey, Y/n." She turned to you with a smile that mirrors the beauty of the fireworks, "I like you. I really do."

"..."

"I already know...that you like Ayaka, but...!"

"Yoimiya." You halted her words. You felt your mood dampen with the visible hurt in her eyes. "I...only see you as a sister of mine. I don't think i can-" You sighed, not wanting to have to tell her this way. "I don't think i can see you as anything beyond that."

You could only watch as she smiles to herself, and silently cry, knowing she'd never win against an actual princess.

"Ah-!" You exclaimed as you felt something heavy jump on you from behind.

"Hello, my lovely Y/n!" She giggled as she stuck on to you like a koala, "Nice to see you today!"

You sighed as pried her off from you. "Hu Tao, not now. I'm busy." You heard her huff as she crossed her arms.

"Collecting debts is sooo boring! Why don't you come work at the parlor instead?" She winked at you, as if she just suggested some completely genius. "I'll give you an extra bonus on your pay if you bring new customers, ehe!"

"Stop disrupting my work. Besides, the Tsaritsa has given me enough money already."

"Then why continue working for themmmmm, boo hooo!"

"Hu Tao, just leave me alone. I don't feel like dealing with you today."

She felt a pang in her heart, yet her smile didn't waver. "Oh, come on! Just admit it, you like me being around-"

"No. You're annoying." You stated as you looked towards her. "I seriously don't get why you keep going after me. Can't you go annoy someone else, like Zhongli?"

Her ruby eyes widened at your harsh words. "I-I just wanted to-"

"To cheer me up?" You fixed your position to fully face her. "Being in the Fatui has shown me all the ugly sides of this world. You're only constantly reminding me of my siblings that I'll never see again."

Hu Tao looked down at her feet, knowing fully well that she did nothing but pester you.

"My anger towards you right now may be misplaced, but you'll need to know that I also need space."

"I already know all of that." She spoke up, with a new determined look in her orbs. "It's precisely why I keep insisting you to be with me so you could be happy. You're all alone...and i just wanted to change that."

You frowned at her words, "Why are you trying so hard to-"

"Because I love you!"

Your eyes widened as she gritted her teeth. "I've always loved you!"

This time though, she had you, a fellow Knight, working with her to finish her duties for the day.

Jean went back to her table, and continued doing her work, but she could not focus, and ended up staring at you, thinking about how kind you were, for helping her, how cute your sleeping face looked, and how she wanted to kiss you…

She instantly blushed and went back to work, but her mind was running on how her thoughts were like the protagonist's when they meet their love interest.

That’s when she knew she had feelings for you.

We all know Lisa is a very flirty person, and as a result probably has many admirers who are interested in her mainly due to her figure.

You were different. Yes, you were also heavily affected by her flirting and all, but not once, have you ever hit on you, or like tried to vie for her attention in an overbearing manner.

Furthermore, you actually love to discuss with Lisa about various topics across the entire Teyvat, so intellectually Lisa is attracted to you already.

It’s when she realises how open and free that she can be around that she realises that she has fallen for you.

She was reflecting on your time together that day, thinking about how you were so different from all the various suitors she has entertained over the years. You didn’t try to wow her with gifts, but gave her something even more important: your time, and your complete attention. And whenever around you, she didn’t have to feel like she was flirting with someone, but being able to be at ease.

When she realises that she wants to always feel like this with you and only you, she’ll know that she has feelings for you.

Ayaka is a smile woman, only using love/ lovely when you’re alone, and your name out in public. The only exception to that is if you’re around… important people. Like sara for example. In a meeting of sorts, she won’t hesitate to say “love can you hand me that piece of paper”

Yoimiya: baby, sweetie, spark

Typically using baby or sweetie all the time. Though does throw in spark once and a while. It started off as a joke, with yoimiya saying “oh my adorable little sparky” as a joke… you know (please don’t ask for context because I can’t give it to you, I just know she’d do this :’)) But then she actually started calling you spark.

Thoma: darling, sweetheart, prince/princess

Only addresses you with utmost respect, and sweetness in his voice. Even during a fight he’ll be kind, and use these pet names. He uses them out in public too, not shying away from pda, but of course he’ll respect you and your boundaries, so if you’re not comfortable with that he’ll only use pet names when you’re alone or not around many people.

Sara: your name

I honestly think she’s too nervous to use pet names, and feels like you’ll think she’s being disrespectful. She doesn’t know why, but because of how much she respects you she only calls you by your name. Maybe a nickname.

Kokomi: love, sweetheart, baby, cutie, angel

Not ashamed to use pet names, and literally will call you the sweetest things you can think of. She thinks it’s so fitting for you because she of course thinks you’re a sweetheart.

Gorou: babe, and love

Gorou is a tough one, I genuinely had no clue what to put down for him. Though I had to settle on something. He probably called you puppy/pup once and now he says it in private. Just cause.

Itto: gorgeous, pretty, and something relating to an inside joke of yours

This man could literally call you “trash can” and it would sound like the most heavenly thing you’ve ever heard. The way he uses his words is so…????? To the point where he can make anything sound like a pet name.

Doesn’t really think pet names are… useful. When you explain it to her as a, “endearing name you call someone you love” she probably is like “well… I love you… and I love deserts… I could call you cake?” You decided on sweetie after that.

The way her voice says ‘my love’ when addressing you is so… soothing. She isn’t even saying your name and she suddenly has you wrapped around her finger with a few simple words.
