why is Richard sickly for like 95% of the book he's always complaining about being exhausted and faint and nauseous and riddled with headaches and his solution is LETS HAVE MORE PILLS AND ALCOHOL??
LIKE SIR PLEASE JUST EAT A VEGETABLE IM BEGGING U
I'm pretty sure I wrote it down somewhere, but it was either just after I finished reading the series or while I was reading it that I remember thinking vividly "the difference between feral and unhinged is neil and andrew" and every day I think about how accurate that statement is
This is such a revealing passage in regards to how Neil views other people and the world in general. He's so compartmentalized he just straight-up won't process information he deems irrelevant to the things he cares about if it takes any extra time or effort.
I think he's probably so hypervigilant that he notices almost everything going on around him at all times but that's way too much information to deal with, especially when reacting and making decisions quickly is a matter of life and death like it often is for him, so he does this. Filters out everything unnecessary so he can focus only on what's most important.
One of my favorite things about Neil was when he was questioning his sexuality. He looked at Nicky and Matt to see if his feelings towards them had changed to try and deduce if he was gay tm. Of course, he came to the conclusion that he’s pretty exclusively attracted to Andrew, but did he ever even think to look at the identical twin of the man he had just kissed? No, why would he do that. Like hmm, I enjoyed kissing this person, does someone who looks the same give me the same feelings? Never even crossed his mind. Of course he isn’t attracted to Aaron. That’s disgusting. This petty ass man will always have my heart.
The parallels between Oscar Wilde and Neil Josten...

thinking about evervale raising a toast to immortality and being remembered forever, and tristancallum toasting to the fragility of mortality and the inevitable descent into chaos and dust, and the greek class raising their glasses — camilla saying, “to live,” though she never truly got to, and bunny adding, “to live forever,” though in the end, he didn’t, and neil perry talking about acting, "i could live dozens of great lives. to be or not to be. that is the question! for the first time in my life, i feel completely alive," and then committing s*icide after performing in his first ever play...
richard is so real for choosing classes based on which will let him sleep late on mondays
film adaptations of classic literature should be low budget and the actors should be a bunch of people i’ve never seen and will never see again. this or die
headcanon that neil and andrew don't necessarily hide their relationship in public but also absolutely refuse to acknowledge it. neil asked about his relationship with andrew "yeah i hate that guy", andrew asked if he and neil are actually together "i don't know who neil josten is" and then someone will spot them kissing in the car and they'd both be like "this is not our car"
had a dream last night that Kaz Brekker joined an acting troupe and was one of the back up dancers in Hamilton and I went to see it and I saw him and was very confused and confronted him about it after the show and was like why aren’t you in your book??? And he looked guilty for a second didn’t answer me then ran away into the night still in his Hamilton outfit
