SAM WILSON || MCU PROGRESSION
Sam completed the real world version of superhero school, where most candidates drop out.
Natasha knew of Sam’s mission by name and was shocked.
Nick Fury tried to recruit Sam after seeing him in battle one time.
They immediately tried to recruit him into the Avengers but Sam said no. Until he finally relented and joined up.
Literally every important character who has ever met Sam Wilson immediately tried to recruit him for their team.
We have known Sam’s qualifications for yeaaaars. Why is there any doubt he’s Captain America?
Whatever happens next, however the writers resolve things, with Sam and Bucky, with the various teams, in Doomsday, in Cap 5, in whatever, it doesn’t matter. I will always remember how terrible, how truly awful, how oftentimes downright racist, this fandom behaved about Sam Wilson and his fans because of Thunderbolts* and the PCS that followed the movie. Sam’s name wasn’t mentioned in the movie, and he didn’t even show up in the PCS and still the fandom has used the movie & PCS as their newest excuse for terrible behavior and racism, towards the character, actor, and fans.
So next year when Doomsday drops and you guys all like Sam again because he smiles at Bucky or something, just know that we will all still remember every single rancid thing you ever said, especially since you all keep going out of your way to shove it in our faces.
You’re not depressed. You just need $250,000 in your bank account.

TB* spoiler
I can’t believe this has to be said but… you know Sam is upset at the thunderbolts* because he doesn’t want the avengers to be controlled by the government, right? That’s why he was on team cap in civil war. Do you know that? It’s important to me that you know that.

NEVER TRUST ANYONE WHO DISLIKES SAM WILSON
Just rewatched Bucky's introductory scenes in Thunderbolts, trying to pin down why he felt so kinda creepy and weird.
I don't know if the congress hearing was his first day on set, but it's like Sebastian hadn't fully shaken off the Trumpisms yet. Ugh like
Well, I'm not on the impeachment committee, but umm the uhh rumors of uhh wrongdoing are very worrying. They're very, very concerning ... and uhh worrying. And I think my constituents in Brooklyn deserve better, so we're going to get to the bottom of this umm ... worrying issue.
He just sounds so dumb. Help 😭 I can't unhear it.
And his phone call with Mel?
Mel: It's kind of strange. That it's all over now, isn't it? I mean, the Avengers are gone. No one else is coming to save the day.
Bucky: Maybe we could be the people who are coming.
Ex-fucking-cuse me?!
Who the hell just months ago stopped the United States and Japan from starting WW3?!
Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres!
Who the hell stopped the President from hulk smashing DC!?
Sam fucking Wilson!!
For Bucky to let that slide and then be all "Maybe we could be the people" 😏
I'm throwing that man into the fire.
I’m convinced that people who keep saying “oh what would Sam’s avengers roster even consist of” just haven’t been paying attention. Anyways.
- Joaquin Torres aka The Falcon. Obviously. Feel like that goes without saying.
- Ant man and wasp. Scott would drop quite literally anything for the chance to gain Sam’s respect. He’s Sam’s number one fan and was mentioned several times in BNW. He and Hope would be there in a heartbeat.
-War machine: also goes without saying. We’ve seen their bond throughout all the movies and his cameo in FATWS. Rhodey has Sam’s back.
- Black panther/ the Wakandans. Sam has kept an incredibly good relationship with the Wakandans (something Bucky somehow fails to do repeatedly) given how he is fully backed by them and they have no problem gifting him suits.
- Hell, by extension of the Wakandans, we can even add Ironheart to the list.
- the young avengers. Not only through Eli Bradley (who I am still holding out hope we are seeing again.) but I have no doubt Clint passed the word about Kate on to Sam as well.
- Thor. most purely because of the recent picture of the 2 of them together, but they were also avengers together at the same time, went to the same parties and trained together. Same can be said about Bruce. Speaking of:
- Bruce and Jen. Sam’s connected to the hulks now, after the whole ting with Ross I think it would be pretty obtuse to believe that Bruce didn’t immediately talk to Sam afterwards. Plus i firmly believe Jen will be the legal consultant to Sam going forward for the new avengers. She also such a fan girl it’s almost impossible for me to believe she would miss out on this opportunity.
- Carol Danvers. Fury respected Sam, Carol respects Fury. It’s not that hard to imagine they would eventually cross paths with one another even after the battle of Endgame. (If ANYONE is co leading the avengers with Sam its her, even though Sam doesn’t need a co leading at all I’m just tired of the Bucky co lead narrative)
- Shang Chi. Mainly because he’s in the cast for Doomsday, there is no where else I can imagine him really going other than with Sam. And why wouldn’t he?
Let’s not pretend that Sam wasn’t fighting side by side with countless of hero’s. He’s a man about connection and finding commonality, you really think he wouldn’t introduce himself to his fellow avengers after the dust settles? There are plenty more I can add to this list, but I’ll leave that up to yall.
Let’s stop pretending like Sam isn’t a well connected man.
Tonight, President Ross embraced the theme of togetherness in his acceptance speech, but his past tells a different story, especially when it comes to working with heroes like Captain America.
As two of our nation's most important leaders, some question if they can overcome their at times tumultuous history to face the challenges of the future.
...
Here you go, Cap ... Put your money away. It's on the house.
Okay okay, I was done with gif sets but I've circled back to this one (where it all began lol) because LISTEN to what the news readers say!
"Heroes like Captain America" Sam is recognised as Cap and considered a true hero.
"As two of our nation's most important leaders" ‼️‼️
Sam is considered one of America's leaders and one of the MOST IMPORTANT.
And those three people he walks past all raise their glasses and call him Cap. 🥹🥹
Sam Wilson is a goddamn national treasure. He is beloved.
Insp (x)
There is a big difference between working WITH the government and working FOR the government.
And Sam knows this. He’ll work with whoever he has to if it means he can keep his ear to the ground and help as many people as possible. He’s got no love for the government, but he also knows it’s better to be in the know than left in the dark. It’s why he has people in the government who he can trust, who can keep an eye on shady activity or politicians while he plays nice with them.
He’s not a fool. And he’ll be damned if he lets himself or any of the avengers become government pawns. And this isn’t anything new. He’s been fighting this fight against the government well before he became captain America.
And this captain is not about to veer off course now. His head is in the fucking game. Don’t. Fuck. With. Sam. Wilson.
More MCU fans need to understand that the extent of anti-black racism that exists around Sam Wilson as a character colors every scene he’s in, every way he’s talked about, how he’s perceived by fans, and how he is used by the media company as a character.
There is no way for fans of Sam Wilson to view these sleights as innocent or contextual - for example, Lexi being an ignorant buffoon in general — because the severity of the hate this character faces means there are people who cannot read that Lexi is intended to be a buffoon. They will actually look at that scene and go oh Lexi is right, Sam is a bad character and this reinforces the beliefs that I already had. They can’t look at the context that the Thunderbolts are not intended to be taken seriously as the New Avengers because the point is that Sam is the only one who has real legitimacy- they will look at the movie and go, John Walker really IS the better Captain America and Sam Wilson is trash. And when you combine it Sam constantly being put in the background despite being Captain America, it reinforces that Sam is not as important as Steve Rogers, that his position is tenuous, that he isn’t the backbone of the MCU now. These strategies end up with real harm to the presentation of Black characters in the MCU. And Sam fans are rightfully pissed off that this keeps happening because we see the social media posts trashing Sam. It’s a real phenomena, not just ship wars or fannish defense.
I'm happy to have this conversation in public.
“Sam’s trying to restore order from chaos. And he is a good person but I think he sees issues as too straight forwards sometimes and is a little “by the book”
Seriously, what the hell do y’all even be talking about?
When has MCU Sam ever come off as “by the book”?
The first time we meet him he ends up harboring a couple of fugitives, stealing his wings from the government, and helping those 2 fugitives I just mentioned defeat Hydra.
The next time we see him he’s taking a brief break from secretly searching for a wanted man. By the way, he’s doing this so he can help him, not turn him in.
His third appearance is him quite literally going against the book by being the first person to vocalize their disagreement with the Accords.
Then he’s on the run for a long time, working in the shadows. And why is he doing that? Because, again, he’d literally just gone against the book and defied the government, and now he’s a fugitive.
I could go on, but… why should I have too?
Listen, y’all just have to start thinking before you hit post on this stuff. So many of you are saying so many things that simply aren’t true and don’t make sense, just to support your baseless points and it’s getting old.
So, you've got this character, right? And he's introduced in a supporting role, but he's interesting and compelling and has potential as a lead. He leads his own subplots every now and then, but there's room for more.
Then, over the decades, he gets more and more neglected. His characterisation and visual portrayal somehow gets worse and even more racist despite supposedly improving attitudes. But what's this? 2014? And he's captain America. He is declared to be important, a main character. Finally, a chance to shine!
Of course, then, the avengers stories don't focus on him and only some of the writing is good... then they discard him after the secret wars stuff. But what's this? 2022? He's back? He's cap again?
Well, not really. Steve's cap. Sam is off in the background somewhere, in an underwhelming solo run, sequestered from most other comics.
But what if we turn to live action? Sam is introduced as a supporting character but he's fun and he's interesting. What's this? 2019? We're told directly that sam is important, that Sam's going to matter.
2 years later we get a series that's a mixed bag, with his co star getting the more fawning writing and the overwhelming majority of the audience response. But don't worry, he's getting a film.
4 years later, the delayed film comes out. Its release is tarnished by a bonkers decision to adapt sabra and by a reactionary, anti-woke media ecosystem. Despite this, it does well financially and is pretty good. Sam wasn't focused on in the marketing, and his co star bears more thematic focus in the film, but it's promising. Sam as the lead. Sam as important.
2 months later. They say nah again. He doesn't matter. He isn't important.
It'll be another year at least before we see him again. In a film where he is very clearly not going to be the lead.
Thunderbolts spoilers
"I don't know why people think they did Sam dirty with this. Lmao. People in universe don't see this team as a real team, because it wasn't assembled by Sam. Literal outrage for nothing and not understanding what was literally in the damn movie. "
What are we not gonna do is act af if there's no pushback in real life against Sam being Captain America and leading the Avengers. That Mcu stans aren't weird when it comes to Sam.
Tantrums were and are still being thrown because Steve gave Sam the shield and not Bucky. Articles were written about it. You had interviewers asking why Sam and not Bucky. They don't care about how Sam is more qualified and Steve and Bucky both want him to have that mantle or how he's popular in-universe.
Sam was villainized through tfaws by fans for not babying Bucky and not babying Walker. They see these white men who didn't treat Sam well and yet write essays about how they're poor little meow meows and Sam is not worthy being Cap because he was supposedly mean to them.
Sam was never being given a fair share by fans and the media. There's constantly articles about Chris coming back. He's always judged on a higher standard. Because if Sam was the one leading a government sanctioned team or talk foundly about his time in the military you'd get essays slagging him and his movie off.
Marvel has been sidelining Sam even after he became Cap. They barely promoted him as such in the past 4 years and now they aren't letting him form his team first .
Cause now, after Bucky and Walker those racist fans now have the Thunderbolts they can use against Sam. People are already saying that they prefer them to Sam's team before we ever get to see it.
Since Thunderbolts came out there's been posts on Twitter and TikTok hating on Sam, one with 8k likes calling him a loser. Calling him petty. Asking how Sam can do this to "Bucky and Natasha's sister." Saying Bucky or Walker should be Cap. How * are the real Avengers.
That's why people are upset.
It's 1:55 and I can't sleep bc I'm thinking about how much Marvel and its fans hate, and when I say hate I mean HATE, Sam Wilson and that there is no actual reason for it other than blatant racism because he is by all means a very likable, fun, attractive, smart, skilled and kind character and has been nothing but a great, caring friend to their whites faves and yet he is still not good enough for anyone.
