I've been trying to write some kind of cotl fanfiction. There's a high chance it's gonna be edgy and weird, but I don't care anymore. I'd rather do edgy shit than do nothing and regret it. idk when I'll post the first chapter, It's still in the making.

You can tell who is new to Tumblr (especially refugees from other social media), because they're very concerned about the age of posts, worried about "spam liking/reblogging," use words like "unalive" unironically, and censor trigger words with asterisks. Some will also put irrelevant tags on their posts "for reach."

Dude, you are your own algorithm on this site. Stuff from 2012 occasionally gets a burst of 100K more notes. "Spam liking/reblogging" old posts will get you kissed on the mouth. With tongue. The only thing censoring letters in trigger words and using euphemisms will accomplish is to make blocking those terms useless for those trying to avoid that subject matter. Putting every irrelevant popular tag you can think of on your post "for reach" is just going to get you blocked for spam tagging.

Just relax. Follow people, reblog stuff that interests you, and make your own posts. You will find your people, and they will find you.

Tips from a Beta Reading Writer

This one's for the scenes with multiple characters, and you're not sure how to keep everyone involved.

Writing group scenes is chaos. Someone’s talking, someone’s interrupting, someone’s zoning out thinking about breadsticks. And if you’re not careful, half your cast fades into the background like NPCs in a video game. I used to struggle with this so much—my characters would just exist in the scene without actually affecting it. But here’s what I've learned and have started implementing:

✨ Give everyone a job in the scene ✨

Not their literal job—like, not everyone needs to be solving a crime or casting spells. I mean: Why are they in this moment? What’s their role in the conversation?

My favourite examples are:

The Driver: Moves the convo forward. They have an agenda, they’re pushing the action.

The Instigator: Pokes the bear. Asks the messy questions. Stirring the pot like a chef on a mission.

The Voice of Reason: "Guys, maybe we don’t commit arson today?"

The Distracted One: Completely in their own world. Tuning out, doodling on a napkin, thinking about their ex.

The Observer: Not saying much, but noticing everything. (Quiet characters still have presence!)

The Wild Card: Who knows what they’ll do? Certainly not them. Probably about to make things worse.

If a character has no function, they’ll disappear. Give them something—even if it’s just a side comment, a reaction, or stealing fries off someone’s plate. Keep them interesting, and your readers will stay interested too.

All About Shadowban

Tumblr ‘How To’s

I had no idea about Tumblr’s shadowban until it happened to me. Since then, surprisingly quite a few number of people have texted me about them getting shadowbanned as well. Now that I’m aware of it, I realize it’s becoming increasingly common for legit blogs like mine to get shadowbanned for no reason at all. So hope this helps everyone who has to unnecessarily go through this.

What does shadowban exactly mean?

Basically, your blog exists and mostly functions as it normally would, but Tumblr has made it invisible to everyone else. Tumblr lets you believe that everything is fine and that you can interact with others, but actually you can’t. (Look at the wikipedia definition here.)

Why does this happen?

From what I understand, blogs get shadowbanned since they are suspected of being bots, or just sketchy, or they might be going against Tumblr’s guidelines. I’m not sure, but it might also happen if someone has reported your blog. 

But more often than not, it’s just a tumblr glitch. 

How to tell if your blog has been shadowbanned? And most of the things that happen during this state.

(These are the things that I personally went through. It might not be the same for everyone. Also, my main blog (@that-damn-girl) was shadowbanned. My side-blogs were fine. So in case your main blog is fine but your side blog is shadowbanned, you might have a different experience.)
