frustrated kisses with diluc | 2.1k+ words
the cooling night of mondstadt does little to calm your racing heart and the butterflies in your stomach. nothing within these walls could ever calm you down when you find yourself walking side by side with diluc as he escorts you home after a night at the tavern.
you think you’d be used to it by now; used to how both your cheeks turn a lovely shade of pink when you step too close and your arms brush against each other or the way your heart feels like it’s going to burst out of your chest when he smiles and chuckles at a story you’ve told him or even when he lectures you to be more careful on your commissions and is unable to hide the worry in his tone as well as he’d hoped. but even after all this time, you aren’t used to it and you aren’t sure you ever would be.
“you should get inside,” diluc says not a moment after arriving at the front door of your apartment. “it’s unsafe this time of night.”
“right,” you agree, your gaze casting down as your hand comes up to your face to push the hair out of your face. “thank you again for walking me home tonight.. and well most nights.” a small smile falls on your lips at the thought of how often you get to share these moments with diluc, a privilege no one else in all of teyvat gets to receive.
you regret moving the only thing that could hide your blushing cheeks when your eyes return to his handsome features and you see ruby orbs looking softly but intently at your lips and you can’t help when your eyes drop to his in return. what would they feel like when he finally kissed you instead of holding you at arms length? you’re sure they’re more intoxicating than the grapes he turns into the finest wine. were you going to find out tonight just how sweet they actually were?
he turns his entire face away from yours, his gloves hand coming up to hide more of his face than his plentiful hair already does when he sees you’ve caught on to what he’s been longing to touch for so long. he clears his throat before looking back at you, pink still lightly dusting his face. “please, think nothing of it. if it’s within my power i’ll ensure you get home safely,” he finds himself saying this a lot, especially with how often he does escort you home and you thank him as sweetly as you do. they’re words you’ve heard before and will never tire of hearing. “ah well - g-goodnight y/n.”
you say your own goodnight before he leaves much too quickly for your liking, before either of you can get the courage to get closer to the other and you’re stuck standing inside the doorway to your apartment, your heart fluttering and your mind racing. dilucs half hearted rejections were nothing new and you don’t let it bother you, your patience for him was unyielding. like the blooming of the spring's first flower or the butterflies that find their way into the grapevines of the dawn winery, in order to let wonderful things blosum and show you their true beauty, you must give them time. but like some flowers need a little extra time, a little more sunshine before they fully flourish.
you’ve thought about it for a while now, how much longer it would take diluc to stop pushing aside his feelings. you weren’t even sure at first if that’s what he was doing or if he simply wasn’t interested but as time went on and you two drew closer to each other it became obvious that he cared for you in a special way and that he was also pushing you away because of it. as he started to let you in, little by little, you began to understand why he did but as time continued and you stayed by his side you saw him soften, saw how his walls began to break down around you and you wonder now if the little bit of the wall that remained was up to you to move so you could finally make it to him.
worry of overstepping almost stops you in your tracks when you drop your bag inside your apartment and shut the door loudly you as you chase after him but your heart screams so much louder and all you want is to see him, tell him that you care for him so much it almost hurts and that when he’s ready, you are too. he couldn’t have gotten too far, it hasn’t even been 10 minutes since he left you at your door and disappeared into the night.
if it weren’t for his bright hair you may have missed him standing in an alleyway not far from your place. stopping in your tracks and turning on your heels you hurry towards him, calling his name just as he lunges forwards towards an enemy you hadn’t noticed before. you hadn’t even seen the claymore in his hand until now.
as the abyss mage disappears after being defeated, diluc quickly turns towards you, his eyes burning with a quiet fire that you’ve only seen a few times before.
“what are you doing out here?!” the words come out harsher than he intended and it almost has you faltering. he notices the hurt in your eyes and his tone immediately lowers as he comes closer to you. “i escorted you home so you would be safe for the rest of the night.”
“what are you doing?” you stand still in front of him, shocked and trying to process the sight before you. you’ve heard rumors about the hero keeping mond safe under the darkness of the night but you hadn’t imagined till now that they were true. as you come down from your shocked state, it all begins to make sense. of course the dark knight hero would be the ever protective diluc, his love for mondstadt and it’s people simply didn’t go away when he left the knights. it only makes you fall for him more. you meet his burning gaze and can’t stop the words before they leave your lips, “is this why you have been pushing me away?
“it’s for your own good,” he states and crosses his arms. “now,” he’s trying to make a point, what you just saw is not up for discussion at the moment, not until you're safely inside. “let's get you back home, shall we?”
“for my own good?” you sound upset and you absolutely are. it makes his heart ache. you weren’t supposed to find out this way, aren’t supposed to be out in the night where it’s dangerous.. where you could get hurt. he’s been trying so hard to keep you from getting hurt, even if it meant pushing away how badly he wanted you no matter how much he found himself drawn to you. under the cover over the moon he hopes you can’t see the way his whole face turns as red as the hair utop his head when you step closer to him and reach for his hand. the feeling of your gentle touch relaxes and yet worries him. “diluc what’s for my own good is up for me to decide.”
he sighs, his hand squeezing yours when his eyes meet yours. he’s not sure if it’s meant to comfort you or him or if his touch is only going to make things worse. “as i’ve said, if it is within my power to protect you i would. it’s not safe so i’ll escort you back home.”
but you don’t budge and neither does he.
“what about you?” you can feel the heat coming from him, it soothes the unease that was bubbling in your stomach that you may have ruined all the trust you’ve built with him till now, gives you the little push you need to finish what you came out here for in the first place because you never wanted to forget this warmth. “are you going to get home safe?”
“you don’t need to concern yourself with that,” his gaze is serious, almost too intense for comfort but you still don’t pull away and he doesn’t push you away. “it is up to me to deal with the darkness.. to keep it far away from you.”
for the first time since you’ve touched his hand, he pulls away and with it goes his gaze. the place where your hand lay on his fingers and palm tingle and he misses your gentle touch immediately but he had to move away. he worries your touch will cause him to waiver even more than it already has, cause him to push aside the worry in his chest that the darkness he brings with him will consume you, all so he can bathe in your light, breath you in and feel the softness of your touch against his rough, scarred skin. it simply wasn’t worth it. he can’t- he won’t let the darkness touch you and he’s convinced himself the only way of doing that is by not letting himself get close, keeping you at arms distance while under the night he protects you so the darkness can’t even cast a shadow on your beautiful face. “let’s go,” he repeats.
you take a step closer, so close your chests are almost touching and you don’t miss how his eyes look straight towards your lips before his gentle, yet sturdy grip wraps around your arms, keeping you only inches away from his own lips.
“y/n.. don’t..”
“why?”
“you know why..”
“i heard what you said but your actions betray your words diluc..”
“they don’t.” trust him, betraying his words would mean he would have kissed you long ago and even now when he’s finding it nearly impossible to pull away from you. he knows he has to but archons he doesn’t want to.
“darkness is everywhere but it doesn’t scare me because where there is darkness there is light and you watching over me.. if it’s for you, only you, i’m willing to risk it.”
“you may be,” the words come out in almost a whisper, “but i am not. i won't let you risk your safety and you shouldn’t be so willing to either. it isn’t worth it-”
“not worth it?” you’re finding it harder to hide the frustration in your tone and the tears pricking at your eyes. didn’t he see how much you cared for him and that even if you weren’t together you’d care enough to continue to be by his side? didn’t he know that he didn’t have to face the darkness alone? tears fall without your permission but you don’t let that stop you. grabbing onto the collar on his coat for support, you stand on your toes and lean up, ready to risk it all. “you are worth it to me.”
your words and your lips heat his skin more than his vision ever could, makes all of teyvat stop moving around you; only the sound of the wind proves that the world around you in fact still moves. your lips are so much sweeter, softer than he imagined and your fingers cupping his face feel chilly against his burning cheeks and he welcomes it happily. his hands hover above you, hesitating for a moment before one wraps around your middle, the other tangling into your locks and pulling you closer to him until your feet barely touch the ground. all your worries and frustrations leave with the wind as your lips meet over and over again.
you only pull away when you have to breathe but you don’t go far, not that you could even if you wanted to, and you don’t, with the way his arms hold you close. his warm breath fans over the skin on your cheeks and he can feel yours on his neck as he gently lowers you back down to the ground, placing his forehead on yours when your feet are steady underneath you. your hands find their way from his soft face to his jacket to extra support. it’s a good thing he keeps his arms around you, you aren’t sure you could stay upright with how weak your knees are.
“i’m sorry..” you whisper. you know you’re overstepped, possibly ruined your relationship but your body can’t stop now, moving on it’s own you rest your head against his chest. it’s comforting to know his heart is beating just as wildly as yours.
his arms pull you tight against him, his head rests on yours and you love the way his chest vibrates against you as he speaks, “you have no reason to be,” the sweet sound of his words that come out breathlessly are enough to convince you that you haven’t ruined a thing and just in case it wasn't, he leans done to kiss you once more.

RULE #1: FIND A BEAU THAT POSES A CHALLENGE; LOVE IS MOST FUN WHEN THERE'S AN ENTICING PURSUIT INVOLVED
his fingers gently traced the outline of the crystal goblet that contained blood red poison: safe enough for consumption but not safe enough to prevent his mind from falling prey to the tantalizing grips of drunkeness. though wine would usually be swimming, settled deep in his stomach, he opted to tease and tempt fate tonight and dance a misty waltz between the lines of a drunken stupor and agonizing consciousness.
"if you toy with that drink any longer, it's bound to get fed up and walk away."
you'd been sitting next to him for some time, quiet as a doll, but your beguiling, honey tinted voice sparked an intrigued glint in the swirls of his lilac eye. the ends of his lips quirked upwards, a sly, foxy glance perambulated your way with the upturn of his head to meet your piercing eyes and the gentle placement of his fingers to support his weighted chin.
"well now," he cooed, voice dripping with a rosy, sultry lilt yet no lighter than the soft, downy underbelly of a bird's feather, "that would make me up for grabs. now's your chance, darling, shoot your shot hm?"
pearls of crystal condensation snaked their way in races down the edge of his wine glass, still full with sweet temptation. but nothing to him was more tempting than to brush his thumb against the soft, velvety texture of your cupid's bow and see the cute scrunch of your nose in response. a new toy for him to tinker with, a prized addition to his collection should he manage to woo you.
instead, you set a bag of mora with a heavy weight on the bar's wooden counter—far too much mora for a single shot—and placed a palm on the counter, one on his stool, leaving you to lean uncomfortably close to him with a gem of a smile on your pretty lips; close enough for your noses to brush against one another, any more and your lips would slot perfectly against his.
"forgive me, captain, but i'm not interested."
your touch lingered even hours after you'd left the tavern with the sway of your hips and a teasing smile on your face—one that exuded confidence and stability, and had his heart battering against his chest.
kaeya hadn't realized that his mask had chipped away at the fibers with the burning embers of your aura until charles replaced his stale glass with a crisp, fresh one and slid a hearty laugh his way, "they've entranced you, haven't they sir kaeya?"
an impressed smirk was all kaeya offered in response: after all, he loved a challenge.
RULE #2: SUBTLY EXPRESS YOUR INTEREST IN A MANNER THAT EXUDES CONFIDENCE AND CHARM WHILE ALSO KEEPING YOURSELF A MYSTERY
an enigma is how kaeya would describe you.
like silky threads of crystal water or a fleeting, gentle breeze, you flitted through the gaps of his fingertips and skirted around the edges of his ears with the echo of your voice and the rims of his eyes with the grace of your presence at the tavern. it was almost as if you could read the grooves of his brain and feel the palpitating game he'd morphed into the invisible tango between your fleeting feet. "friends", was what you said, but enticing, addicting, intoxicating was every semblance of your being and he craved more.
but kaeya alberich was no man of desperation, no, not at all. he shall be fawned over, and never the other way around.
when the moon cast its gentle glow onto brick and cobblestone, he'd find himself sauntering over to your table, two glasses of delicious poison in his hands and a promise of a good time. the only offer you accepted was the alcohol he so kindly paid for. but no matter! to kaeya, this was all part of his game, all part of the hunt for your heart and the desire to see your eyes glow with his name etched in your irises.
kaeya's methods were...effective, one could say. but you were a true anomaly in his many years of experience. his charming one-liners had you doubling over in laughter and patting him twice on the back—most definitely not in a romantic manner. his cool, teasing touch in the subtle nudge of your arm or the manner in which he'd casually snake his arm around your waist only seemed to spur on your relentless teasing. he'd put on his fancy garbs and strutted his best in the streets, only to be called a "peacock" courtesy of your lovely voice and amused glint in your eyes. but the roses he'd bought from flora to tuck behind your ears just as you set off for another commission proved to be more effective in the slight genuine smile upon your lips and the quiet and hurried "thank you" whispered only for him.
it was proof, he knew soon that he'd see hearts in your eyes and feel your heartbeat from miles away only with the telltale click of his boots and signature laugh.
yet despite this, you ventured onwards merely being yourself. where most would be squealing and kicking up their feet at the sheer mention of capturing the captain kaeya's fancy, he was stunned to realize that you hadn't been affected in the slightest.
rather, it was him who'd begun to notice your teasing looks that often hurtled his way when he least expected them, or the sugary lilt to your voice whenever you called out to him upon seeing his figure in the streets. you were still a mystery, a puzzle he couldn't decipher, a story that his tongue struggled to wrap around, a mystic ornament whose origins he knew nothing of.
"captain kaeya! fancy a drink tonight?"
his head whipped upwards to meet your starry eyes, bound to no one and devoid of hearts, only an endless sea of light and constellations that were no one's to steal.
"my, you offend me, shouldn't you know my answer to that by now, darling?" he wriggled out of the confines of his thoughts and slung an arm around your shoulder, letting you lead him to angel's share for the night.
RULE #3: SHOULD YOU FEEL THAT YOU'RE GETTING IN TOO DEEP, ABORT MISSION
to his surprise, it wasn't in his fancy getups or the sultry dip of his voice nor the alluring musk he adorned or the frosted tips of his fingers, but rather the late night talks of your beloved hobbies and the stories in which silver linings never found their way into the conversation: these were what worked.
his previous beaus have all settled for what he was—what he presented himself to be. but you, you dug deeper into the caverns of his mind and had him dig up ridiculous childhood stories involving him, a certain redheaded wine tycoon, and a bucket of seashells, told under moonlight and over aged wine. kaeya settled for obliging your requests for more embarrassing childhood stories of the charming and suave captain kaeya, and he indulged in your tales of adventuring and mystical stories of scholars and monsters; if possible, he'd love to hear your voice forever and ever on repeat in his ears.
but once you uprooted the vines and twiny branches tangling his heart and revealed the tender muscle and flesh underneath, panic began to course through his veins. this wasn't supposed to happen, you were a challenge, a game to bide his time with, a mere toy to satiate the curiosity within him.
so why was he the one whose heart couldn't sit still around you anymore?
kaeya alberich is not a desperate man, and so he runs as far away as he can. no more lingering touches, sultry remarks, or roses tucked behind your ears. no more rooftop conversations shared between a bottle of vodka or embarrassing childhood stories. no more teasing dares or battle of wits when dusk kissed the top of your heads. no more: all that remained within him was barren of life and ice cold. kaeya alberich is not a desperate man, and yet his heart still longed for you. his soul cried out when you approached with bounded steps and a gleeful smile on your face, only for him to greet you with a stiff nod saved for politics and family dinners and a strained, professional smile reserved for placement when he detested using it most.
the boiling hatred for himself began to rise and build up in the thin confines of his esophagus upon the smile disintegrating from your face, leaving behind a crestfallen nod of understanding in his wake. what stung more was the fact that upon looking into your eyes, they still swirled with vibrant stars and bands of constellations, but among the barrage of light were tiny, dotted hearts that thrummed with every single second your eyes gazed into his.
but he knew and he knew well, there was no going back once he'd pushed you away well and good, even if you had begun to take a true liking to him.
he was in too deep once he realized that it hurt to push you far, far away where he could never hurt you, and you him.
RULE #4: RULE #3 CAN BE NULL AND VOID IF YOUR BEAU HELPS YOU REALIZE THAT YOU'RE AN IDIOT
satisfaction and stability is all he has ever sought out for, but such things are a luxury in a world that conspires against him. any semblance of those principles must be treated as you would a spy or a criminal: dangerous, conniving, untrustworthy. good things can't happen to kaeya—if they do, they either last a fleeting moment or are lies wrapped in glittery present paper and tied neatly with a little bow.
what were you to him? a fleeting moment? or a lie dressed in fancy clothing? the meaning didn't matter any more, he'd push and push and push until you were far away from him and he could finally breath and revel in the calmness that he no longer feared having to get hurt.
except, he already was.
his heart ached and burned in his chest upon a mere glance at your face: sullen and lacking its usual charming mirth—the same charm that persuaded him to begin pursuing you in the first place. despite his airy, fouette lined steps and the musical cadence to his voice, the emptiness where your late night chats and clinks of alcohol to celebrate nothing in particular used to sit, felt so void of the warmth that encompassed him in your company.
perhaps fate was mocking him when your knuckles knocked heavy against the wood of his door one night, and your constellation ridden eyes still contained hearts that begun to warble in his presence.
"have i upset you in some way, captain?"
his carefully constructed mask remained pristine in place, yet jostled slightly at the hammer of his heart as he fought the urge to retreat backwards and hide under the covers like a small child.
"not at all."
your arms folded themselves across your chest in a guarded manner, a frown settling on your lips. "you're not calling me pet names anymore."
like a mechanical doll, his lips curved upwards to mimic the charming smile he'd given you so many nights ago, back when it was all just a simple game to him, "oh? i wasn't aware that you liked the pet names so much-"
"it's not just the pet names, kaeya!" the rest of his teasing remarks died in his throat upon the reveal of glistening tears that threatened to fall from your lashes. "you've been ignoring me, avoiding me like the plague. if i've truly done nothing wrong, why am i being treated as though i have? i thought we were friends?"
kaeya supposed you were much like a siren, with your bated beauty and alluring voice, you'd have him jumping ship and swimming towards a false reality lest his guard be let down. even with tears rolling down your face, he'd be damned if he wouldn't test the murky waters that surrounded your archipelago.
that is: if he were brave enough to enter the tempest of waves and secure his spot among your rocky shorelines.
"is it because i fancy you?"
at the tune of your timid void, his blood ran colder than ice in his veins, stilling for a minute before proceeds onwards languidly in a stark contrast to the rapid palpitations of his heart in his throat.
his silence seemed to be enough a reply for you, "i-i see, i'm sorry, i wasn't aware that you were so disgusted with me. i thought there was a chance...but it seems i was too hopeful." his eye found yours and the galaxies and constellations within began to dim and fade with light, leaving behind the burned remnants of dull and faded hearts that littered the spaces in between.
your heels turned to walk away but a sudden surge of strength found its way into his arms and his hand caught your elbow, grip fueled by emotions he couldn't decipher.
"i'm...far from disgusted with you, angel." his mind was screaming at him to let you go, to increase the distance between desire and temptation. but his heart had taken the reigns and there appeared to be no stopping. he was completely enraptured by your siren's song.
"angel, huh?" you sniffled, dragging your sleeve across your eyes with a strained smile, "that's a new one."
"reserved for you and you alone, darling."
the familiar, teasing atmosphere felt so welcome in his arms, as did you.
"come here," he cooed, voice lacking its usual teasing lilt and full of only genuinely concern as he gently tugged you forward and let you melt into his body. so warm, so tender, and ever so soft, your body melted against the thundering flames of his heart and merged into his chest. it was a feeling he'd dreamed about for so long, and if he were still dreaming, he wished to never wake up.
"i don't understand, i can't tell if you like me or dislike me." you laughed incredulously and pressed the heel of your palm to your head, still wrapped up in his embrace.
kaeya couldn't understand either, why his mind ushered him to release you from his grip and shove your memories of warmth and sunlight to the corners of his brain to never see daylight again. in contrast, why was it that his heart demanded to shower you in affection and let you know every second of every minute just how wrapped around your finger he was.
"well, i am a man of many mysteries. this is just one more i have to decipher." upon the playful smack of your palm to his chest and the frustrated smile you sent him, his worry dissipated into thin air and joined the stars above.
"i got in too deep, you're quite enticing, you know?" his heart soared upon finally seeing the scrunch of your noise and letting your giggles weave their way through the gaps in his heart, "but that's the thing, you're my biggest weakness and i was...terrified, because let's face it, sweetheart: nothing good ever happens to me."
his last words were uttered directly into your scalp, the high and mighty, confident captain kaeya too afraid to stare into your eyes and realize how weak of a man he truly was. his arms locked so tight around your waist in fear that moving would mean time would restart again, and he was more than happy to relive this moment forever and ever.
instead, your hands found their way around his torso, and those velvety lips that he'd spent so many hours fawning over and daydreaming of what they'd feel like upon his, gently pressed themselves to the line of his jaw.
"you should've told me how you felt, you're a big idiot, you know that?" if possible, he might have sagged in relief and went completely limp in your arms right then and there, but the loving gaze in which you tangled him up in had him staying upright just to see the stars reignite in your irises,
"but you don't have to worry. i promise you," he watched with bated breath as your hands moved to hold his face, thumb gentle tracing under the fabric of his charcoal eyepatch, "you deserve genuine, good things, even if they aren't me. you deserve them."
it turns out that kaeya alberich was in fact, a desperate man. desperate in the way his hands came to cup your cheeks and tilt your head to the side, allowing him perfect access to the lips he'd dreamed of kissing for so long. you fit into him like a puzzle piece, the warmth he'd be devoid of for so long began to fill up with your scent and your name began to etch itself into the white of his irises all while your lips molded so perfectly against his.
"you are something good," he broke away, panting for air to say those few words, pressing one more chaste kiss to your lips before continuing, "you're the best thing that's ever happened to me."
and he'd never let go again, not when you so readily dove back in to capture his lips just like you'd done his heart.
RULE #5: TREASURE EVERY MOMENT WITH THEM; LET YOUR WALLS DOWN
kaeya hadn't felt this light since he was a mere child with no weight on his shoulders or chains wrapped around his waist.
the simple slip of your hand into his had him seeing stars and breathing in a nose full of fresh roses and sparkling carnations doused in sugar and honey. you were so addicting, a new type of craving where his liver would no longer have to fight nightly battles or scream at him to cease his indulgences.
you were a drug that so easily coursed through his system and had him on a constant high with your gentle fragrance that wrapped itself in silky ribbons around his heart and your feather light touch upon his icy skin.
everything with you was an adventure to him, whether you babysat klee and played pirates for the afternoon, or stole necklaces and jewels from treasure hoarders to give back to their rightful owners, any time spent with you was time that he wished he could scoop up into a box to place in his pocket.
everything about you was so tantalizing and genuine. the minute his eyepatch fell off to reveal the hidden stories underneath, your arms found their way around his shoulders, and your hushed whispered reassured him over and over that no matter what you'd be right by his side: and that was all he ever needed. you embraced him whether he has tears running down his face, or was covered in dirt and grime from a day of fighting, you cared not for surface level appearances as you did the kind soul that laid beneath his charming layer.
but kaeya felt more inclined to look beyond the physical layers of your body in a manner of his hands skidding upwards under your shirt: cool fingertips gliding across searing hot skin eager for his touch. your hands traced the outlines of the numerous scars on his bare upper body. he watched with sheer adoration in his eyes as you covered a certain willowy patch of burnt skin rooting outwards from his shoulder with your kisses and affectionate, gentle strokes of your hands.
he fumbled with the elaborate buckles of his clothes, hands shaking despite having danced this tango numerous times. but this particular time felt so vulnerable, with each article of clothing he removed he felt his charismatic layers come undone until he was nothing but the timid, shy boy he once was. in your arms he breathlessly stole kiss after kiss from your air deprived lips and sought to take hold of all the love you could give. he traversed through the grooves of your skin up to the crook of your neck, where his eyes met yours for a brief moment before sliding shut and letting the gap be filled with your intertwined love.
with the final removal of his eyepatch, he was bare for you to see with both of your eyes for the monster he truly believed himself to be. and yet, you looped your arms around his neck and tugged him downwards, trapping him in a tender, slow, and riveting kiss.
"i love you, (y/n)," kaeya whispered against your lips, forehead pressed tightly against yours. you responded in kind with the gentle scrape of your nails against his bare, scarred back and the words he drank from your lips.
the minute you became one with him was when he finally understood what it meant to love someone with all your heart.
RULE #6: BE PATIENT, AND UNDERSTANDING
you were an enigma, truly enthralling and incomprehensibly thrilling. but perhaps too incomprehensible for him to understand at points. to yell at you with indignance in his voice would mean to surrender his right to ever be called yours, but the minute your accusing voice comes barreling through his bedroom doors, he's retreating into his shell and immediately considering the "what if's".
"kaeya, you can't be serious! you're injured, you can't possibly even think that you're in fit enough shape to be leading squadrons right now!"
he watched as you tried a gentle method of persuasion at first, only for it to escalate until you were practically begging him with a hoarse voice to please just lay back down and get some rest.
"i told you, dove," he paused, wincing to avoid any strain seeping into his voice as he shifted on the bed, "i'm perfectly fine. they need me there, i can't just say no. you know how it is, don't you, sweetheart?"
left alone to bare the barrage of a hilichurl attack, it was a miracle he managed to make it out with only moderate injuries. his shoulders were bandaged, left arm put in a brace and shin patched up for scrapes and bruises.
"please, kaeya..." he tried to catch your arm as you sank to the floor, words caught on the thorny edges of your muffled cries and choked sobs. your hands gripped onto his like a lifeline and squeezed with all your might, "you're not expendable, please, you need to get better first."
the expendable line played over and over again in his head, for years even. the guilt began to seep its way into his heart and he found himself ceding to your prayers.
"alright, dove, i promise you no more fighting for now," kaeya's large palm gently stroked the top of your head and silently rubbed away your worries, "but i am expecting entertainment while i'm bed ridden, some kisses would suffice wouldn't you say?" he broke out into a charming grin upon seeing the defeated smile on your face.
it was worth it if it meant he got to feel your lips on his. he'd take any chance to cherish this feeling.
RULE #7: SPEND YOUR MORNINGS TOGETHER IN COMPLETE BLISS
"leaving already?" kaeya's sleep ridden eyes registered the bleary image of you tugging your attire on for the day.
"yep! it'll be a short mission, i'll be back in time for lunch. should we eat at good hunter today?" beaming, you turned your eyes to him while your fingers busied themselves with lacing up the boots on your feet.
kaeya shifted to sitting upwards in bed and propped his chin up on his fist, "y'know, you'd look really good in a corset." he mused out loud, a dreamy smile on his face.
"hey, mister, you're getting distracted! good hunter for lunch today?" despite the chiding phrasing and the snapping of your fingers in front of his delirious face, it seemed just like him, you couldn't stop the smile from creeping onto your face.
"anywhere you want, darling. i'm good as long as it's with you." he watched as you padded over and sat on his side of the bed, stretching your hand out to cup his cheek only for his head to turn inwards and press a kiss to your palm.
"alright, good hunter it is."
he was sure it was a pain to get him to loosen his grip from around your waist, even as you trudged down the stairs and tried to convince him at the front door that you didn't need a kaeya-shaped utility belt.
now he wishes he never let go.
RULE #8: ALWAYS KISS THEM GOODBYE—YOU NEVER TRULY KNOW WHEN IT'LL BE YOUR LAST
even with the passage of so much time, your lips never failed to make him weak in the knees. still in the doorway of your shared home, he loathed the idea of letting you go, even if your mission was to be quick and easy and you'd be back in his arms in time for lunch at good hunter.
"can this mission be rescheduled? i don't recall the last time i had a proper day off, and i can't even spend it with you." like a kicked puppy, he pouted into the crook of your neck and swayed your intertwined bodies in the archway of the front door.
"unfortunately not," you stifled a giggle and brought his face downwards for another tender kiss, "but i promise that you'll have all of me as soon as i come back."
"you better keep your promise, darling." a kiss to your nose, a kiss to both your cheeks, eyelids, temples, neck, and one more chaste kiss to your smiling lips.
"you know i'm one to keep my word."
he never expected to be able to so freely say such weighted words without a barrage of weighted emotions clinging to his heart, but now he utters them so freely, so truthfully, and so wholly that he can hardly believe that it's his voice.
"i love you, (y/n)." with one more, lingering, tender, and gentle kiss, he could never be satisfied but it was enough to last him until lunch.
"and i love you, kaeya. i'll see you later!"
RULE #9: COME RUNNING WHEN THEY NEED YOU MOST
"s-sir kaeya..."
kaeya watched impatiently as the young knight caught his breath, dressed in his city clothes in preparation for lunch at good hunter.
"that's me, can i help-"
"it's master (y/n), t-they've been injured-!"
kaeya felt his heart still.
"send a healer after me!" he muttered lowly, grabbing his sword and coat.
the knight needed to say nothing more.
adrenaline carried kaeya's feet to where he knew you'd be, sword floating ferociously behind his back. this world couldn't take you from him, not the one good thing that's ever happened to him. anything but you.
images of your smile, sounds of your laugh, the feel of your soft, warm skin against his and the feelings that erupted in his heart when you held him so tenderly and pressed kiss after kiss to his lips...he pleaded with whatever archon, whatever deity was out there to spare your life.
but upon arriving at your mission site, it was clear that no archons nor deities cared for his mortal desires.
it was such a beautiful day: sun poured from the heavens and a gentle breeze complimented the beaming sun. but the thick pool of blood that surrounded your limp body and the mitachurl about to finish you off had him rushing forwards and impaling his sword straight into the monster's heart with a strangled cry, blood swishing in his ears once he got a proper look at you.
"no no no no no (y/n) look at me, come on, open your eyes-!" he cried out desperately, dropping to his knees. all he could see was the red that soaked your clothes from the open wound in your chest, eyes shut and rolling around in the back of your skull.
his hands clumsily fumbled with his silky, periwinkle cape, taking great care to press it to the large gash that lined your chest. "come on darling, we're gonna have lunch at good hunter's, y-yeah?" his eyes frantically searched for any signs of consciousness, and he sagged in relief upon seeing the beautiful, gem like color of your eyes peeping back at him.
"that's it, that's good, sweetheart. keep looking at me, darling, don't shut your pretty eyes, okay? the medic will be here soon, i promise." blood spattered up from your lips in a horrid cough and he felt the familiar dread and putrid stink of death come up to haunt him from behind his shoulders.
but not you, you wouldn't fall prey to the clutches of death.
"hey, hey, you're gonna be okay, i promise." but it seemed like he was trying to convince himself of something that could never be, not with the amount of blood that seeped through the thin material of his cape nor the paling of your skin and droopiness of your eyes.
"kae-ya..." your supple palm, coated in blood, staggered upwards to cup his cheek and swipe away at the tears that pooled from his exposed eyes.
when had he started crying?
RULE #10: MAKE SURE THEY KNOW THEY ARE LOVED
"no, darling, this isn't goodbye. you're going to be okay, you're going-" it was as if his words had grown thorns and impaled the thin walls of his neck: nothing came out despite his growing pleads and dwindling reassurances. the medic was nowhere in sight and his cape was soaked through with irony, sticky blood.
"kaeya..." he hardly recognized the hoarse, exhausted voice that crept out from your lips—lips that he adored so much.
his hand pressed itself against yours that firmly placed itself against his cheek, "what is it darling? what's wrong?"
the tears that had collected in your eyes finally began to trickle down the sides of your face as you struggled to raise your other hand to hold his tear soaked face in your hands.
"i love you, please don't forget that."
the mirrored world of rosy tints and honey glows began to shatter around him once he realized the true implications behind your loving words.
"i know, i know, sweetheart, and you can tell me tonight, and tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, and forever onwards," there was a manic desperate tone to his voice as he scrambled to put pressure on the wound and keep your warmth intact. he was sure if his knees were to dig any further into the earth, he'd become one with the dirt and perhaps that'd be a better fate than losing you forever.
"no...need to tell you...now...kaeya..." even on death's door, your stubbornness reigned supreme as your bloodied hand placed itself over the hand he'd been using to put pressure on your wound.
you arms silently stretched out towards him and he took your body into his gratefully, cradling your head to his chest as if you were constructed of fragile glass or thin marble.
his cries were ceaseless and of a man who was desperate for a miracle, for anything, just for your brevity and a moment longer where he can hold your face and kiss you without tasting the tang of blood on his tongue. even as your lips dried and breaths began to slow, his lips lingered all over your skin and left tingles in his wake, followed by strangled "i love you"s strung together with broken cries and warbled sobs.
"you deserve...good...things..." you quietly mumbled, taking great care to brush aside the locks from his face.
your words only elicited a mangled cry from his lips as his thumbs ran their soft pads over the plump of your cheeks, covered in both a mix of your tears and his, "but you are my good thing," and he repeats the words he said so many nights ago with heavy breaths and choked cries, "you're the best thing that's ever happened to me." and like so many nights, he pressed his forehead against yours and takes in the last sight of your beautiful eyes, aglow with love and satisfaction.
just as the medic arrives on scene, the wispy winds of your last breath fall against his lips and his world begins to crumble to dust.

In the humid wilderness of Sumeru’s lush rainforests, there was no room for error as a forest ranger. It was a matter of life or death—eat or be eaten.
The vast majority of the rainforest was relatively untouched by civilization and teeming with vibrant creatures of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. As a ranger, you were expected to be an expert in animal and vegetation identification, and able to sense danger through disturbances in the surrounding ecosystem.
You had been reminded of this requirement on numerous occasions by your superior, yet somehow you defied all natural laws with how you constantly attracted trouble. Sometimes it’s a simple, easily avoidable mistake on your part, but other times it turned into a horde of enemies charging in your direction with no obvious escape in sight.
As a result, you were assigned under the direct supervision of the Lead Forest Ranger, Tighnari, for special training. But it wasn’t your fault you magically invited danger everywhere you went. At first, you were quite intimidated by the long-eared ranger. You knew he was the best of the best, so the stakes were high. If you messed this up, maybe you really were hopeless.
Expeditions were extremely silent and awkward with your new companion. After a while of suffering from solitude, you had tried to get to know him more, but it proved to be difficult.
“Hey, ‘Nari,” you would inquire softly as he was focused on referencing an encyclopedia from his pack.
An ear would twitch accompanied by a nearly indiscernible hum, eyes not breaking from his work once. “Yes, (Y/N)?”
“Um, do you ever take a break?” you sheepishly asked, rubbing the back of your neck nervously. He raised a brow, promptly closing his book, and touched his chin in thought. Worried you had offended him, you continued, “L-like do you do anything for fun?”
“This is fun, is it not?” Tighnari replied nonchalantly. “I love my work.”
It was true. All Tighnari would ever discuss with you was about Dawson Rainforest. Such was the extent of any line of questioning you could think of. You could rarely ever get a reaction out of him, not that you wanted to tease him—well, maybe you wouldn’t mind to see the quiet and clever Tighnari devolve into a stuttering, blushing mess at least once.
But that is beside the point. You felt ignored and lonely. Breaking the ice was useless. You were going to have to be a lot more forward if you wanted to get Tighnari’s attention.
Which ultimately led you to this moment months later, as you snap out of your thoughts staring at the burning embers rising from the campfire. You like to think your relationship had improved or you understood each other better since then. At the very least, your skills were improving and working with him in a team wasn’t as bad as it used to be.
You both had set up camp together less than an hour ago after completing your duties since you were too far from the main base to lodge for the night. Tighnari had just set his ranger journal aside, pale green eyes locked onto you.
A strange rush of heat spread across your cheeks in embarrassment. You prayed to the Archons it wasn’t noticeable. Had he said something and you completely missed it? Why is he looking at you like that?
You cleared your throat, unsure of what to say since he still scarcely gives you the time of day, “What?”
Perfect. You were such a great conversationalist, you reprimanded yourself silently.
“You were lost in thought,” he observed, lips pursing slightly in disappointment. “I… apologize if I have come across as rude in the past.”
“No!” you insisted, shaking your head frantically and laughing it off. “That’s not why at all. Don’t worry about it. Just feeling bored I guess?”
“You must always remain vigilant. As you can tell, none of the wildlife here seem bored in all their clamoring even in the darkness of night,” Tighnari notes out of habit, but he pauses for a second before shaking his head too and scooting next to you. “But we aren’t on a mission so I suppose I may entertain your antics this time.”
Did the flame of the fire suddenly grow hotter? Your cheeks flushed with another intense wave of heat when Tighnari grew near, surely it wasn’t your Pyro vision acting up. Then again, every time the lead ranger draws close, you swear you can feel the fiery pulse of your vision on your chest. Or was that your heart leaping?
His bright jade eyes flickered knowingly from your vision to meet your skeptical gaze, a playful, smug smile threatening to tug at the corner of his mouth.
“Do you enjoy this, ‘Nari? Making me—!” you accused in shock, words abruptly trailing off as you find yourself nearly admitting your embarrassment. “Argh. This is what you actually do for fun, isn’t it?”
“Me? I could never partake in such fruitless endeavors,” he responded with an innocent wave of his bushy raven tail, rotten mischief dripping from each word on his tongue.
“Oh, but the excitement is just radiating from you, go ahead. I’m ready to hear the great Tighnari speak to me finally,” you retorted sarcastically in a huff.
“I would be more inclined to say it’s written all over you, (Y/N),” his voice lowers as he leans in ever so slightly, tall ears towering over you in an almost intimidating manner. “I’m… not as oblivious as you may think.”
Fuck, the fennec fox never cared to talk to you and the minute he opens his mouth it was your downfall. Your breath hitched subconsciously, the only confirmation Tighnari needed, a sharp-toothed smirk adorning his smug expression. You hated it.
You had quickly learned long ago he had a penchant for teasing and trickery, and you always walked right into his traps. After all this time pushing you away and reeling you back in at will with his wit, he knew he had you wrapped around his finger. You were utterly touch-starved and Tighnari reveled in it, lightly grazing the back of his fingers against your hot cheek.
His pearlescent irises glimmered and marveled at you—a predator helplessly enamored with his prey.
“This isn’t fair, ‘Nari,” you whispered, lidded eyes watching with longing as he slowly inches further toward you. The instinct to pull away crosses your mind, just to deny him the victory, but how could you when the promise of his lips was so imminent?
He brushed his nose against yours gently in a loving nuzzle, whispering onto your lips, “Neither is this burning in my heart for you now, is it?”
Tighnari could hardly restrain himself any longer, drinking in your scent like this so intimately, inevitably succumbing to your sweet lips in a passionate display of desire. When he held your cheek or trailed his hand down to your waist, you felt that familiar burst of your Pyro vision glowing alongside his Dendro one—his touch consuming you with an aching need for more.
You almost considered caressing his long ears when he nibbled at your bottom lip, until he broke the kiss with a soft smile and couldn’t resist indulging in your addicting taste once more.

sʏɴᴏᴘsɪs: you find out akira has to move away for a while [angst]
ᴀ/ɴ: gn reader - not proof read 😟
“What do you mean, ‘kira?” your voice trembles as you stare into Akira’s grey orbs, watery eyes glinting so prettily under the moons hue that makes him look so vulnerable.
“They’re gonna put me on probation” He explains shakily, fingers toying with the grey fabric of his long and over worn hoodie. His paler face is scratched up, small yet angry red marks carved into the delicate and porcelain like skin. Your hands wonder up to the markings, thumbs delicately tracing over the cuts as he leans into the touch, a small smile spreading across his solemn features.
His arms slither to wrap around your waist, tugging you towards his slender frame as he tries his best to memorise how your body fits so perfectly next to his. He knows that you’re worrying about his well-being, millions of thoughts racing through that beautiful head of yours which only end up eating away at you and forming a serpent like feeling that pulls at your gut.
Yet, you chew at your lip and ask the questions that’s eating at you the most.
“You’re not going to be gone forever..right?” Akira giggles softly, hands smoothing over the texture of your windswept hair in a comforting manner.
“No..but for a few months” He answers “I’m not sure how far I’ll be from you but,” He trails off, hand travelling from the locks of your hair to rub comfortingly against the skin of your cheek.
“I’ll always think of you”
“I’d hope so, ‘Kira” Playfully rolling your eyes, you tug at the sleeve of his hoodie to bring his face towards your own to press a soft kiss against his lips. You’re trembling at you do so, eyes glazing over with unshed tears as you try to pour your emotions into one, fleeting kiss.
Akira feels his own heart constrict at the sound of your own breath getting caught in your throat as you try to suppress the sob that’s clawing at your throat to be released. It’s not fair. It’s really not. He shouldn’t be punished for stopping a man from trying to force himself on a woman - better yet, he shouldn’t have a criminal record at the age of 17 but life is so unfair at times.
He shouldn’t feel the pain of being unfairly taken away from those he loves at the age of 17 even if it’s only for a short while.
Yet, the only thing keeping him together was the three short words he whispered to you as he’s taken away from his home a few days later.
“We’ll meet again”
SYNOPSIS: You like taking naps on his lap.

You peered around the open door to Keiji's office. You stared at his back and thought about bothering him or not.
His back was facing you since his desk was in front of the window. He liked being able to pause and look out the window while he was writing articles from home.
He always left the door open for you because he knew you were a bit clingy. He didn't mind. He liked that you were clingy sometimes.
If he wasn't the type of person to accept and give affection, he wouldn't have spent all of high school with Bokuto.
You shuffled into his office. Keiji turned around in his chair, allowing you to climb onto his lap.
You wiggled around until you were comfortable. Your chest was pressed against his as your arms wrapped around his shoulders. You buried your face into the crook of his neck and closed your eyes.
He knew you well. A single glance at the clock would tell him if it was nap time or not. You always took naps around the same time each day.
He rolled his chair closer to his desk and continued to work on his laptop. It wasn't difficult for him to be your pillow and to work. All he needed was his hands anyway.
You eventually drifted off the sleep and he glanced at you before smiling softly. He leaned in and kissed your forehead, then turned back to his laptop to continue working.
It was always peaceful with you.
He enjoyed being able to write in the silence of his office. The only sounds were your soft breathing and the clacks of the keyboard. There was the occasional bird tweeting or children laughing down the street.
He preferred to work bit by bit each day instead of trying to finish a whole paper in one day. When he reached his goal for the day, he saved his progress and turned his laptop off.
He glanced at the clock before placing his hands on your back and kissing the top of your head.
"Y/N, it's time to wake up," he whispered.
He preferred to wake you up gently, then increase the volume of his voice if you didn't wake up.
Your soft snoring didn't cease, so he gently shook you while telling you to wake up. You softly groaned as you opened your eyes a smidge.
"Hi, sweetheart," he greeted.
"Hmm."
You rubbed your eyes and leaned back, blinking sleepily at him. He smiled, grabbed your face, and squished your cheeks together.
"Time to wake up," he said.
You mumbled incoherent words as he moved your head from side to side in an attempt to wake you up.
"I'll get started on dinner," he said as he placed his hands onto the back of your thighs and stood up.
You clung to him as he walked to the kitchen. When he tried to place you onto the chair, you refused to let him go.
"Time to let go, Y/N."
You whined, but let go of him. He kissed your forehead and opened the refrigerator to take out ingredients for dinner.
You watched him move around the kitchen and get started on dinner. He rolled up his sleeves and washed his hands while waiting for the pan to heat up and the pot of water to boil.
When you were sober enough, you shuffled toward the sink to wash your hands. Then, you stood next to him to help cut the vegetables.
He carefully handed you the knife, then got started on making a sauce for the vegetables.
The two of you had a routine. He'd get started on dinner, but you'd help him finish making it once you were awake enough.
"Keiji," you called out.
He looked down at you and chuckled when he saw your face. You were expecting a kiss, and he could tell.
He leaned in and kissed you on the lips, then grabbed the vegetables to sauté them. You smiled and moved to put the noodles in the boiling pot of water.
You set the dining table while waiting for the noodles to cook. Once they were ready, you drained the water and put them on two plates.
Keiji finished the sautéed vegetables and poured them over the noodles. The two of you sat across from each other and dug into the meal.
It was the small moments of domesticity with you that he enjoyed.
WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT-
001 MIYA ATSUMU X SHUT UP AND DRIVE SERIES
++ MSBY GARAGE
❝ i've been looking for a driver who is qualified, so if you think that you're the one step into my ride ❞
dt — @rintaroll
“so, what’s it gonna take for ya to praise me a little more?”
you rolled your eyes and huffed, brushing the setters hand off your shoulder.
“shouldn’t you be more concerned about, oh i don’t know, your fans, interviews, your teammates?!” you snapped back as atsumu held both his hands up in defence.
the crowd was loud and still bustling as the black jackals most recent victory continued to stir excitement through the mass of spectators in the high stands. fans were still yelling and chanting as interviewers scrambled to grab the attention of any player they could. multiple had pried for atsumu in fact, alas, all his attention was solely focused on none other than his teams promotional manager; you.
you were chatting to the teams photographer and uploading updates and playbacks onto the teams twitter at the time the blond had bounded his way over to you and here you were, faced with the famous setter leaning on the advertisement boards lining the court diving you from him.
“miya,” you sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose as you shook your head. “go and talk to some interviewers and get yourself back over to the others, i’m begging you at this point.”
“beggin’ huh?” a boyish smirk tugged at his lips and his eyes stayed locked on your own.
“not in the way your disgusting little mind is thinking of.” you shot back, stepping back from the board and looking back down at your phone where the teams twitter was currently blowing up.
atsumu snickered before standing up straight.
“whatever ya say doll, just hold up a little longer and i’m all yours again yeah?”
you scoffed and shook your head at him before shooing him away.
“i’d prefer you weren’t.”
“lyin’s a bad habit.”
“would you just go already?”
atsumu laughed as he turned to make his way back to the rest of his awaiting team. waving a hand back at you, he turned to face you before shooting a wink your way as interviewers and photographers flooded the scene.
this was a typical exchange of interaction between the two of you. ever since you had been introduced to the team as their promotional manager, atsumu had fixated his interest outside of volleyball onto you. 7 months later and nothing had changed despite his never faltering persistence.
you sighed as the photographer laughed softly before turning to his own laptop to import more photos for you to upload.
“he seems to have a soft spot for you.”
you groaned and switched your phone off, leaning back on the advertisement boards atsumu himself was previously leaning against.
“he’s such a handful.” you stated as the photographer chuckled.
“looks like he wants to be one for you though.”
“i wish he didn’t” you muttered back as the photographer smiled earnestly at you.
“i think we both know that’s a lie, we’ve been working together for a while and i don't think this dread to spend time with him is as evident as you make it out.”
you whined as you sent a soft frown his way.
“trust me, it is.”
“whatever you say.” the man teased back before clicking on the last images to send your way.
thanking him and making your way over to the teams manager and coach, you stood beside them in front of the msby boys and watched them as outlet interviewers shot questions their way.
multiple flashes went off every few seconds as each player flashed a handsome smile to the camera. you scanned over the team and bokuto was excitedly chatting and laughing with the interviewers. you smiled softly to yourself as you let your eyes wander from bokuto over to sakusa who was trying his best to avoid contact with his sweaty teammates and ‘annoying’ interviewers. it was clear he wasn’t as thrilled to be there as the others so you sent an apologetic look his way and mouthed to him he only had to put up for roughly 10 minutes more. he silently wallowed in self pity at that, but that quickly turned to agitation as atsumu dominated your vision.
slinging an arm over sakusa, (much to the latters disgust), atsumu grinned at you and flashed a smirk for a brief second before turning back to give the cameras a toothy grin.
your face dropped back into a frown as atsumu feigned hurt from a distance.
the team manager laughed as she elbowed you gently.
“interviewers might have a little more luck keeping him focused if you were the one interviewing him.”
you raised an eyebrow as you turned to face her.
“he’s like a puppy.” you stated bluntly as the manager laughed.
“a lovesick puppy.” she corrected as you faked a gag.
“why you all think he’s head over heels for me is way beyond me.”
the manager smiled before nudging for you to look at the attractive setter.
“because it's obvious. you break the boys heart every week.”
you watched as atsumu happily chatted to interviewers and forced sakusa to begrudgingly pose for photos and join in with him.
“he’s not my type.” you said as your eyes stayed focused on the blond.
“right.” the manager teased before smiling over at the team's captain, meian, her own boyfriend.
you smiled at the pair’s interaction as the team dispersed after thanking interviewers and fans for their support.
meian wandered over to the manager who happily placed a kiss to her cheek before guiding her off towards the back of the stadium, hand lingering on the small on her back.
you sighed as your own thoughts invaded your headspace. it wasn’t that you didn’t want a boyfriend. you just hadn’t met anyone worth the time yet.
well, that was your go to excuse to tell everyone anyway. the truth was, you didn't even know the limits to your own standards, you just knew they were high when looking for a potential partner.
the feeling of a heavy arm slung over your shoulder forced you back into reality as your eyes flickered up in surprise.
“miss me?” the hot breath and familiar voice teased the shell of your ear as you scowled.
“you wish.” you snapped back as you attempted to duck out of your offender's grip.
“ah-ah, yer coming home with me today.” atsumu smirked confidently as you hissed at him to get off.
“says who?” you argued as the setter looked down at you smugly.
“me.” another voice joined the conversation as you turned to face the owner of it.
your eyes met the coach who was looking at you slightly sympathetically.
“huh?”
“sorry,” the coach began, hand holding the back of his neck. “i know i said i’d take you home, but my wife has some errands she needs me to pick up before getting home and i’d hate to have to drag you along with me this late at night.”
you groaned but nodded understandably.
“luckily, atsumu here was kind enough to offer to be your ride back home.”
“lucky me.” your voice dripping with thick sarcasm as atsumu ignored it.
“yeah, lucky you indeed. do ya know how many girls would kill to be in yer position right now?” atsumu teased, arm still firmly made at home around your shoulders.
“let them kill me.” you glared at him as he gasped playfully.
“ya don’t mean that.”
“i do.”
“you don’t.”
“just take me home already i’m tired!” you threw your arms up as atsumu grinned.
“sure, give me a few minutes to grab my stuff and i’ll meet you round the back of the building, yeah?”
“whatever.”
you made your way towards the back exit of the stadium and were met with other members of support for the team who were waiting for the boys to grab their things from the locker rooms. some players opted to shower after matches while others waited til they got back home. atsumu fell into the category of players who waited until they got home. this was both a blessing and a curse. you wouldn’t have to wait for him for too long, but you would be met with a sweaty atsumu.
this wasn’t technically a bad thing, atsumu had a habit of getting rid of the smell after each match with an expensive cologne you’d never even attempt to pronounce, but he happened to somehow be a little more attractive when he looked worn out and disheveled. you hated yourself for thinking such a thing but you just couldn’t help it. he was annoyingly attractive and it made his personality a little more dislikable in your opinion.
you waited for around 10 minutes before you were met with boisterous laughter ringing through the spacious lounge by the exit.
atsumu and bokuto came striding out from the hall directing towards the locker rooms, gym bags in their hands and ruggish hair that would need taming again eventually.
you sighed as you waited for atsumu to approach you. he bid his goodbyes to everyone and sent a look at bokuto's way. the ace held a thumbs up at atsumu as the others in the lounge looked at each other giggling and smiling smugly.
you raised an eyebrow but shrugged it off as you felt a hand find its way on your waist.
“let’s get going then.” his voice strumming chords through your body as you shivered slightly.
atsumu led you out and down towards the underground garage used by players and staff members whilst at the stadium. you’d never actually seen atsumu’s car before so you had no idea what to be looking for, but atsumu’s hand remained firmly on your waist as he led you over to an array of expensive cars. mentally trying to guess what car belonged to the setter, atsumu watched with a small smirk etched on his face as your eyes scanned along each car. keys hooked around his finger, atsumu pressed the unlock button as your jaw dropped slightly.
of fucking course.
miya atsumu was the proud owner of a jet black 2021 chevrolet corvette with the number plate gracing it in all its glory ‘MIY4 13’.
you scoffed as atsumu’s smirk widened.
“so, ya gettin in or what?”
“into what? my one way invitation to death?”
atsumu snickered as he led you over to the passengers seat.
“i won’t kill ya, i promise.”
you looked back at him, handsome and sharp features making your eyes soften.”
“well, it’s not like i’ll be able to yell at you if you break that promise.”
“exactly.” atsumu grinned as you climbed into the luxury vehicle. the soft leather padding of the seats welcoming you as your weight shifted onto them.
you glanced around the interior as your eyes were met upon. various lit buttons caught your attention as a screen switched on as atsumu opened the drivers door. you were certain the car had way too many features but that’s what made it a luxury vehicle you guessed. the sleek black and red complimented interior was admired by you as atsumu watched your eyes dance around the car. his eyes softened as you visably relaxed a little more. your hand hooked across the firmly threaded seatbelt as you pulled it around you.
you looked at atsumu who’s smirk seemed to have faded. instead, a soft grin was painted across his face as he helped you click the belt securely in place.
“don’t kill me miya.”
“i’ll do my best.” he winked at you before pressing the start engine.
mentally chanting your last prayers, you accepted the position fate had put you in and did your best to stop the stirring of butterflies in your chest as atsumu placed his hand on the back of your headrest and pulled out.
well fuck.
as if he wasn’t attractive enough before, he sure as hell was now. your eyes widened and heart picked up it’s pace as the scent of atsumu’s signature cologne flooded your senses.
his sharp jaw and focused eyes, pointed in the direction of the rear window as he successfully pulled the car out the space. moving his hand back onto the wheel, atsumu turned to smirk at you as you gave him a pleading look. before you could open your mouth to speak, the setter slammed on the accelerator and the engines picked up its volume as your head was thrown back a little as the car sped out the garage exit.
“you little shit!” you cussed out as atsumu laughed as you sped onto the highway through the city.
“ya love the thrill don’t lie.”
“i’m not lying!” you protested as the flashes of bright lights flew past the window.
atsumu smiled as his right hand found its place on the middle of your thigh.
“miya!” you hissed as atsumu tilted his head momentarily your direction.
“ya can call me atsumu ya know?”
“i don’t want to!”
“for such a genuine person, yer so full of shit sometimes.”
you huffed as you gave up letting atsumu’s touch encourage the stir inside of you. you turned and glared out the window at the passing scene as atsumu hummed in satisfaction.
a few more moments of comfortable silence went by, nothing but the sounds of cars zooming past and the soft hum of atsumu’s own car’s engine.
you frowned and bit the corner of your lip as you peaked towards the blond whose eyes were fixed on the road.
“so,” you began, resulting in the player's eyes to flicker your way for a millisecond. “why are you so hooked on me?” you questioned.
you held your breath as you finally voiced the concern that had been playing on your mind for a while. you rarely had moments of privacy with the man despite his infatuation and demand to be around you.
“am i not allowed to be?” he challenged teasingly as he sqeezed your thigh slightly.
you wanted to force his grip off of you, you really did, but something about it felt so natural you just couldn't.
“miya.” you sighed and shook your head.
“atsumu.” he corrected as you turned to face him properly.
“look, you’re just my type. that’s all there is to it.” he replied simply,as if it was no big deal to him.
“and just what exactly is your type?” you quizzed as you pulled up at a traffic light.
slowing the car to stop for a while the light was red, atsumu turned his face to look at your own before he flashed that boyish grin you’d unknowingly grown rather fond of.
“you.”
and with that, the world threw you back into fast motion as the green light flashed, highlighting his face before he hit the acceleration again making your eyes widen.
“atsumu…” you sighed quietly as the adrenaline brought more life into his eyes.
it wasn’t that you hated atsumu. it wasn’t that at all. he was just someone you didn’t see yourself seriously with. someone so out there and demanding of the world. you had always envisioned yourself with someone a little more down to earth, someone with a stable job with a lowkey personal life, a person who took life at a comfortable pace. you had never seriously considered being with someone like miya atsumu. someone who demanded the world's attention, dominated every scene he was put in, who took life at the speed the highest the accelerator would go. someone so big, so bright. you never imagined someone like miya atsumu would take interest in someone like you. you were opposites stuck in an entanglement of professional lives.
out of every person in the world, the universe had decided miya atsumu would become the man who ticked the boxes to your unknown standards. you just hated to acknowledge it.
pulling off the highway, atsumu drove through the less busy roads as your apartment complex came into vision. half of you wanted the ride to be a little longer, but the other half of you couldn’t wait to lock yourself in your apartment away from the man who caused turmoil inside of you.
atsumu hummed as he pulled around the back of your complex. the roads were quiet and the soft lights of other buildings gleamed off the vehicle as the golden light flooded through the tinted glass of the windows, pulling attention to the boyish, but charming features of his face.
you sighed as he pulled the car to a stop and let the engine settle down. you stayed like that for a moment as the two of you sat there packed in the quiet parking lot.
“listen, I meant it, i really do like you.” he said as you studied his eyes for any signs of him being ingenuine; you couldn't find any.
your eyes softened as you leaned on the headboard.
“miy- atsumu.” you began quietly as his eyes admired your form. “it’s not that i don’t like you or anything, it's just- i don’t know if you’re my type.” you confessed as your heart hammered against your chest.
“well, you just called me by my first name, that’s gotta count for something right?”
you looked up at him and locked your eyes into his honest ones. you sat up and turned to face him as he took both of your hands into his.
“look, i get it, i’ve been annoying since day one-”
“-annoying is an understatement.” you cut in as atsumu playfully glared at you.
“rude. anyways as i was saying, i might’ve come across as a little too strong from the start, but there's just somethin’ about you. i just can’t seem to leave ya alone.” the blond confessed honestly as his warm, calloused hands held yours tightly.
“atsumu, i just don’t know.” you shook your head as he held onto your hands tightly. “i just don’t know what i’m looking for.”
“let me help ya find it in me then.” he pleaded softly, a small grin tugged at his lips.
you cast your eyes down to where your hands were being connected by him. the stir in your chest sped up as your heart was slamming against your chest at this point.
“atsumu i just-”
cutting you off, atsumu pulled your hands away from each other as he moved one up towards your jaw to cradle your face gently. dark golden eyes melting at the sight of you close up, atsumu pulled your face in closer to his and your heart just wouldn’t let you pull away. his lips finally met your own after what felt like an eternity and it was if yours were made to fit against his.
his hand moved towards the back of your neck as he encouraged you to move closer. you leaned closer letting your own hand find its way against atsumu’s broad chest.
the kiss deepened as you gave access to the setter’s tongue as he dominated your movements. small gasps and whines were heard in the silence of the parking lot as neither of you had it in your to pull away. atsumu’s hand was securely at the back of your neck with the other gripping your waist as you groaned at the slightly uncomfortable position.
pulling away, the two of you breathed heavily as you leaned back in the expensive leather seat as atsumu stared at you softly.
“what the fuck was that?”
“our first kiss as a couple.” atsumu teased but failed to stop the wide smile spread across his face.
“who said anything about being a couple?” you shot back as atsumu found your hand once more, lacing your fingers together tightly.
“your body language. you kissed back.”
“i-”
“msby setter miya atsumu as yer boyfriend, wow, arent’cha just the luckiest!”
you playfully hit his chest as he laughed.
“keep it up and that’ll be ex-boyfriend.”
atsumu’s eyes lit up as he grabbed your hand again and held it tightly.
“so ya admit it! i’m yer boyfriend!”
you giggled seeing how genuinely excited he was over it.
“for now.” you hummed as he pouted slightly.
you cupped his jaw and leaned to press a soft kiss to his cheek causing heat to rise to his face.
“let’s just, take this slow though okay?”
“don’t tell me that while sittin’ in this car.” he joked as you groaned against him.
you leaned back looking back into his bright eyes as his gaze softened.
“i’m kiddin’, we’ll go as fast as ya want, and i promise not to kill you on the way.”
you snickered as the blond beamed at you.
“i’m holding you to that.” you smiled as atsumu pulled your face in closer once more. leaning forward to better prepare yourself, you allowed yourself to melt into another deep kiss with the man you would now call your boyfriend.
you never saw yourself being with someone who took life at a fast pace. someone who demanded the world’s attention without verbally calling for it. you never saw yourself falling for someone like that.
but here you were, with the man who ticked all of those boxes easily. the type of man you insisted wasn’t your type, turned out to be the blueprint for your exact type; you just weren’t aware of it until miya atsumu insisted you did.

Wheel of Fortune (new beginnings), Lovers (true love), Emperor (rev) (misunderstandings) :: kazuha x gn reader | Destined Fate
warnings: enemies to lovers, chasing, pinned to ground (reader), kissing (consensual)
“Stop right there!” You shouted through the turbulent wind. It had picked up so suddenly but you knew why without question. There was only one vision user who could manipulate the wind as easy as the leaf falls from the tree.
Your legs had grown heavier in the chase but you couldn’t stop. Not until you captured what continuously eluded you. So, as you were trained to do, you squinted against the intensity of the sun and pushed further, faster, harder until your bounty came into sight.
“KAEDEHARA KAZUHA!” The sound of your voice echoed across the cliff side, it spilled into the sea as your feet kicked up the sand beneath you. The samurai glanced your way, a devilish grin on his face. The sight of it made your heart pound, made your throat tighten, your chest constrict. He leapt over a pile of driftwood and you watched him float back down with ease. He was by far the most graceful person you’d ever met but instead of using his skills for a valuable purpose, he was on the opposite side. A side that ignored your sworn loyalty, a side against you.
Suddenly, a gust of wind came hurtling toward you, slowing you down. You dropped to your knee and shielded your face with your arms. Pellets of stand stung your skin but you paid them no mind because as soon as the onslaught dissipated you were dashing forward with more determination than before.
A flash or red caught your attention. It slipped behind an abandoned fishing shack just by the waters edge. Obviously the little stunt Kazuha pulled was to give him enough time to disappear from your sight but you were far to skilled to be bested by something as trivial as sand. You came to a steady jog, then a quick step until you pulled out your weapon and began to investigate. It was quiet, save for the push and pull of the waves and the irregular call of the birds flying above you. Today you would win, today you’d capture the elusive wind.
Where are you ... You wondered as you peered around the edge of the shack, as you looked in the windows only to find sea creatures capable of making their way on land crawl around inside. Squinting, you turned to look out across the empty beach. There must be tracks somewhere, but knowing Kazuha he erased those with a wave of his hand.
With a heavy huff, you jumped off the side of the deck, your feet sinking into the ground below. In the shade you found reprieve but you couldn’t rest until you finished your ---
Wind, sand, weight hit you all at once until you found yourself laying on the mixing warm and cold sand and your eyes came into contact with the man you were trying to find.
“Hello there.” Kazuha’s voice spilled around you like a sweet perfume. It wrapped you up, trapped you, and kept you hostage. It didn’t help that his hands had found your wrists and were holding them steady, or that his weight kept you beneath him exactly as he planned. You fell for his trap, as you had many many times before.
“Kazuha --” You glared at him, shifted under him but he simply laughed at your pitiful attempts.
“As it seems, I have bested you yet again, yoriki.” The title slipped from his lips and made you grimace. It was common for citizens to refer to you that way, but when he used it, it was like a poison. A reminder of the sides the two of you stood on.
“You played dirty.”
“How is that?”
“I had you earlier but you weren’t honorable in my win. So this doesn’t count.”
“Enlighten me, how was I so dishonorable?” Kazuha leaned down and you felt the heat from the sun spill over your chest. His face inching closer and closer to your own while your heart began to beat so wildly you thought it would pound straight through your ribcage.
“You ...”
“I ...” You could practically feel his breath on your lips with how close he’d become. This was exactly like before and it wasn’t fair how easily he could manipulate you with just this much.
“... cheating ...”
“Is that what you call it?” Kazuha whispered before he pressed his lips to yours. The feeling sent a shockwave through you and although you struggled against him it was only so you could wrap your arms around his neck and pull him closer. To feel even more attached to the man who had captured your heart.
When he finally pulled away you were floating like driftwood on the sea and with every additional, tender, affection he pressed to your face, you moved further away from solid ground.
“What if someone sees?” You hummed as he kissed your jaw. His hand sliding down your arm while yours finally reached his chest.
“Why do you think I had you chase me all the way out here?”
“I thought you were finally showing me your true colors.”
“For you, I’d paint my shade any that would compliment your own.”
Your fingers pulled as his robes, your heels dug further into the sand and you felt the tethers of your vow to the shogun loosen. “Are you always so poetic?”
“To express how one feels through prose, is there no other way to share what the heart already knows?”
“I hate you.”
“Tell me the ways.” He mused as his arms slipped into the sand and his lips came into contact with yours for the hundredth time.
If you didn’t know any better, you’d swear everything you’d worked for, all that you knew, the path you thought was chosen for you, was undoubtedly being changed at the behest of Kaedehara Kazuha and a twist of destined fate.

You told him your favorite season was winter.
The fact stuck to his memory like a sticky note posted on the wall adjacent to his desk. The first time you told him this was on a cold winter night before he dropped you off at the doorstep of your home. He asked you why. You rubbed your hands together, blowing your warm breath onto them, and he placed his calloused hands on top of yours. You told him that it was because your hands always got cold, and it was the perfect time to hold hands in hopes of getting warm.

This has got to be one of my favourite asks! This sounded so cute and I actually started working on it a couple of weeks ago, I could finally finish it T T If you guys enjoy my work and would like to support my work further, consider supporting me through ko-fi. This is totally optional and does not affect the amount of requests I work on or anything regarding my pieces. Thank you for reading my work regardless and I hope you continue enjoying it!

You sighed, a mixture of exhaustion and relief within the sound escaping your lips as you stretched your arms above your head. You had promised yourself to focus on your studies as this semester was slowly drawing to a close and you couldn’t afford bad grades. It wasn’t your fault when it was much more fun to play games or spend time with your friends; school wasn’t the easiest part of your life after all. Yet when your boyfriend had made his mission to help you out and make your studies less boring, you accepted his offer in a heartbeat. Not that it had been in an offer in the word itself, more so he had exclaimed it one afternoon like it was already sealed, knowing full well that you wouldn’t say no. You had even been excited about studying, eagerly taking a train earlier to Leblanc. Getting good grades and spending time with the person you were most comfortable with was a win-win situation, especially since Akira was pretty good at school. On top of it he was very strict about not studying too much and it made you wonder if that was the reason he was so good at school, never studying too much or not enough. Actually, now that you thought about it, he could be really disciplined if he wanted to.
“Three hours is definitely enough.”, Akira agreed as you yawned and your head lulled to the side to rest against his shoulder. He had wanted to pack your books and notebook for you, but upon seeing you nestle against him like that he froze for a second. He was exhausted as well, though he would never say that to you, brain most likely not bringing out anything smart to the table today, but the smile that rested on your face was worth it. If it meant you’d be clingy with him and he would get to see that smile on your face more he might be able to power through another three hours, even. “More than enough.”, you mumbled as you felt Akira’s cheek press against the top of your head to rest as well. For a moment the room filled with a comfortable silence as you breathed in the mixture of the coffee beans hanging thickly in the air and the cologne Akira was wearing. He felt like a comfortable cushion you could fall asleep on if he’d stayed like this just a little bit longer. “Come here.”, you heard him say as you were swiftly pulled into his lap, almost coming face to face with him if it wasn’t for the fact that he was a tad bit taller than you were. “Don’t look at me like that.”, Akira chuckled as your eyes filled with confusion. You weren’t doing anything in particular, not that you would know of it, but your big eyes staring at him still messed with him. “I’m not even looking at you, silly.”, you replied as you came to rest your head against his chest instead, feeling his chuckle vibrate through his chest underneath you. Your studies were long forgotten, the only sound that filled the room was the ticking of the clock above the counter as well as the brewing of freshly made, warm cups of coffee. “Do you want a coffee?”, your boyfriend asked as the minutes of comfortable silence passed by, stroking your hair in a steady rhythm. You shook your head, feeling sleepy and not wanting to ignite your body once more with energy when the day was already coming to a close anyway. “Do you want to stay over?”, Akira asked instead, the slight hesitation apparent in his voice. It wasn’t that you never had stayed over before, but it was still special whenever you would. He didn’t like the thought of you taking the train and walking home from your station if you were starting to get this sleepy already, so his heart would be at ease if you stayed by his side. To his fortune, you nodded against his chest. “Good.”, Akira smiled, “I still have some movies we can watch.”, he added, already getting excited knowing that you could stay like this upstairs for the whole night, if you’d let him.
“Comfortable?”, Akira inquired as he had settled the thick blanket over the both of you, arms wrapped around you as if to say that he wasn’t going to let you go anywhere for the rest of the night. You hummed in content as you kissed his cheek, now that you were propped up against two pillows and had better access to his face. His cheeks were soft against his lips and you were compelled to do it a second, even a third time. Akira didn’t budge as his eyes were glued to the movie he was actually interested in in contrast to you who only saw it as background noise. Nonetheless, he smiled, trying to keep his cool. You grumbled as you kissed him. He reciprocated it and locked eyes with you for a second when your lips parted, but then they were already back to the movie. You weren’t sure if he was trying to mess with you and was doing it on purpose or if the small grin was from the funny conversation that you noticed in the background within the movie, but you were sure that was far from it. He was enjoying your affection deep down and he had fun messing with you, just waiting for you to grow more desperate and get whiny. Lucky for him, you had no energy to fight against that and instead gave in, giving him what he wanted as you took his face in both of your hands and turned it around to make him face you. The look in his eyes confirmed your suspicions and you still grew weak, not able to be mad at him and scold him in a light-hearted manner. “Clingy?”, Akira wanted to confirm as his grin spread further, face coming closer to plant a quick kiss to your cheek. “Maybe.”, you muttered under your breath, not wanting to give him the satisfaction and fuel his ego any further as you tilted your head to the side and captured his lips instead. You sighed against him as you parted a few seconds afterwards. You felt your cheeks flush as his lips suddenly connected with your forehead before moving down to your cheek and trailing further to the crook of your neck. Now he was the clingy one forgetting about the movie and focusing on you instead. “Who is the clingy one?”, you taunted as your boyfriend’s demeanor had changed completely, lips pressed to your cheek once more as he swiftly took hold of the remote and turned the volume down. “Shush it.”, was Akira’s answer and you almost giggled at his words, relishing in the fact that you had been able to change his focus to you instead, when his lips sealed yours once more.
The two of you had been so preoccupied with each other, exchanging quick kisses to the softness of your cheeks and lips, that you hadn’t heard an intruder coming upstairs, unknowingly ready to destroy the wholesome moment. You shook violently as you heard somewhen clear his throat in the room, so far gone with your thoughts that the sound had almost scared you. Quickly, you hid in the crook of Akira’s neck and felt relieved when you felt his arms sneak around you. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were staying over.”, Sojiro apologized sincerely, feeling a little bit awkward as his eyes were fixated onto the floor for a moment. Akira dismissed it, explaining that it had been a spontaneous idea of his and chatted with his guardian about the evening. You on the other hand wondered how he could look so calm as you glanced up to him. Neither were his cheeks flushed in embarrassment nor the tone in his voice wavering. He simply looked and acted as if nothing had happened or the fact that Sojiro had interrupted you wasn’t concerning at all. You on the other hand didn’t feel the comfortable warmth in your cheeks that you would get from the love and affection that you experienced from your lover, but the uncomfortable when you felt embarrassed or felt like you had done something wrong. You hadn’t even done anything big to begin with, you tried calming your mind since you just had kissed each other a little bit, but it was enough to make your cheeks glow red. You could only be thankful that Akira wasn’t letting go of you nor did Sojiro want to ask you something in particular. “Good night you two.”, you faintly heard Sojiro bid his goodbye over the pounding within your ears. You knew the coast was practically clear now yet you refused to come out of your hiding spot. First of all, it was comfortable and second of all, you weren’t too sure in which mood Akira was. He could be the sweet and loving boyfriend that would take care of you and softly rub your back to get rid of the uneasy feeling you harbored or he could be in his little shit mode - what you liked to call it - and tease you about it. After all, he was unpredictable. “Are you embarrassed?”, Akira asked, sincerity filling his voice that made you give in, clearing your doubts and raising your head to look up at him. Instead of answering his question, you countered it. “Why should I be embarrassed?”, he responded to your question, eyes filled with wonder and innocence that could resemble a little child that didn’t know any better, “It was just Sojiro anyway.” You had to admit to yourself that he was right, but you still couldn’t shake it off. You could only be like this with him when you could let yourself go completely - and that was only possible when you two could be alone.
Except for the movie in the background, silence fell upon you once more as you snuggled into him and tried to shake off the feeling and sleep was slowly welcoming you with open arms. You smiled in content, simply happy that you were fortunate enough to fall asleep in Akiras arms when he spoke up out of a sudden, the one thing you had thought about earlier happening anyway, “You don’t know but, you’re actually pretty cute when you get embarrassed.”
akira reacting to a (eventual) S/O that beats the phantom thieves in finding the treasure at palaces, like they always show up near the end to just give them the palace's treasure smugly or clear out all the shadows in the palace right before the PTs actually enter the palace? sorry if it's a bit confusing!
I’m pretty sure this isn’t the direction you expected me to take this but darkness my old friend paid me a visit :^)
“That was far too dangerous!”
“You should be thanking me!”
Shouts and defences fired back and forth as you and Akira argued in the safe room. Stuck to the sides, the rest of the Phantom Thieves wore varying grimaces and frowns under their masks as they spectated the fight.
“We need to stick together in Palaces–how many times do I have to repeat myself? This is a team!” the onyx-haired male practically snarled in frustration.
A scoff left you as you snubbed your leader before retaliating, “I can handle these small-fry on my own! I already cleared us a path to the treasure so why can’t you just admit I’m doing a good job?”
“Am I supposed to be proud? Just say "oh, nice job” while you throw yourself into danger? There’s no way I’m anything but worried sick about you!“ Joker threw his hands up in exasperation.
"I can take care of myself!” you growled.
“Oh really?” the male responded as his pupils narrowed dangerously. “Then you can take care of yourself by yourself from now on.”
A collective gasp left the remaining members of the team as they processed Akira’s words. Your own mouth opened in silent astonishment before it flapped in an attempt to make a comeback.
“Wait, what?” was all you could come up with.
Your regret, however, was far too late. Akira had already turned his back to you and approached the others with a neutral air and discussed further plans for the Palace. The other thieves were clearly uncomfortable, but stayed out of the personal dispute. You tried to call out to the male, but all you received in return was the back of Akira’s black trench coat.
