Working as the social media manager of McLaren was a dream come true. Being able to travel and do your work at the same time was amazing, making friends and having a good relationship with the team. But what wasn't planned and not so dreamy was meeting the reserve driver of the team: Pato O'Ward.

The first moment he walked inside the MTC, with that cheeky smile and looking at the cars with the same gaze a kid would have on a candy store, I was done. I'm that moment I knew that I as going right have problems. When he looked at the camera and the he looked up at me with a smile I knew that I was going to be in trouble. I had ti be with him all day, filming his day at the MTC, the challenge he did with Lando, the fitting on the car, how he placed his trophy next to Daniel's. And how he signed the contract that named him Lando's reserve driver.

That day, something clicked on me and on him. Those smiles, the way he looked at me, how he touched my arm when he started walking and he guided me while I was looking at the screen of the camera. And after the end of the day, how he said goodbye to me.

"Will I see you again?" He asked leaning on his car, his hands on the pocket of his jeans. I smirked, biting my lip. "I work here, you know where and how to find me" I said walking closer, our feet touching. "Give me at least your number" he said smirking too, placing a hand on my hip. "Pato, Pato... I'm not that easy". "I know. But you know that some things were always ment to be".

It was a teasing game. Eveytime he came to the MTC he searched me. He stayed close, looking how I worked, saying that he wanted to help but what he actually did was distract me. The last races of the season he came with the team, to cheer Lando and Daniel. To distract me. He walked with me around the paddock staying behind the camera while I filmed Lando, or just did things on the garage to have my attention.

And he did it. He got my attention. On a bad way.

Mexico GP. It was his home and he enjoyed the attention of the fans. He was glad that he could come here. But what he loved the most is having her here. He wanted her attention, he wanted to have her for himself for at least a minute. And that's what he tried to do, he was with her all the time, trying to help her with the cameras and the media. But he fucked up. Trying to help her with a camera he dropped it to the floor by accident. And one of the lenses broke. She got mad at him, screamed and cried mad. Everyone was surprised, no one saw her like that. And when he saw her running to the media room and closed the door making the pictures of the walls tremble, he felt bad.

"Mel, pelase. Open the door" he sighed knocking at the door. "Go away. I don't want to see you" she groaned. And something on his heart broke. "Come on, Melanie. I'm sorry. I just wanted to have your attention..." She opened the door, mad. And he got nervous. "That's the problem. You were distracting me, I wanted to work and be focus on it, but you were in my mind all the time. Sometimes I wonder if you ever gonna that I'm not like the other girls". "Believe me, Mel. I know that". He sighed walking away. He wants her. On a good way.

He continued trying to have my attention. Since that race the way he acted around me was different. He stopped trying to make me laugh or look at him doing silly and lovely things. He was just a teaser. He started doing the Hot Laps, and because of that I had to film him. He did the same things he did the first time I filmed him, placing his hand on my arm when he started walking or guiding me, looking at me instead to the camera, smiling and giggling.

I was head over heels for him. But I can't show it. Until one night at a party.

The end of season party was really wild, on a club next to the sea. Many drivers were there with their girlfriends. Lando was there with Luisa, Carlos with Isa, Charles with Charlotte. All lovely and enjoying the music. And I was there alone, smiling while dancing alone. But he came, he walked next to me and placed his hands on my hips. I smirked and danced with him, closer. Placing my hands on his shoulders I leaned on him, looking at his eyes.

"I want you" he said smiling. And I looked at him smirking. I looked at his lips but didn't understand what he said. I ignored it and continued dancing, but he said it again. And I ignored it again. He sighed and grabbed my hand, making me walk behind him to the outside of the club. "What? Hey! Pato!" I exclaimed when we were alone. And then he did it. He pulled me closer and pressed his lips on mines, cupping my cheeks with his hands. "I tell you I want you, but you don't listen to me" he whispered on my ear. "Come with me tonight"

And I did.

We were a giggling mess walking inside the hotel. One of his hands were on my hips while the other held my heels. When the doors of the elevator closed he pushed me to the wall and kissed me. Again and again. The doors opened and we walked to my room, out breaths were deeper, breathing our scents as we walked closer to each other once we were inside. His hands helped me take put my dress and my hands unbuttoned his shirt. I kissed him slowly, and he kissed me back gently.

"Oh, your kisses taste so sweet" he whispered on my ear, making me giggle. He kissed me and I moaned when I took off my underwear and brushed his fingers on my skin. He teased me and I moaned more. "Can't resist it" . He touched me, kissed me, made me see the stars, made me moan his name. And when I saw that he was in laying in front of me worh his chest raising up un down, I sighed. "Stay with me" I whispered. "Promise not to wake me if this all part of a dream. Because it feels like heaven, mon chèri ".

After that we became closer. Something between friends and lovers. We shared moments, hidden kisses, furtive gazes. And no one found out. For then we were something like best friends that had inside jokes, shared food and helped each other. But we both knew that it wasn't only that, there were feelings involved. The kisses we shared, his hands on my face, his hugs. Everything was full of feelings.

"Bonsoir!" I exclaimed walking inside the garage. He was there, and the moment he saw he his smile grew cheek to cheek. It was the first day of him as a reserve driver. Lando had to miss the race because he injured himself during training, so watching him there, with the blue race suit, made me smile. "Enchantée, new driver" I joked making him laugh. He did the press conferences, the interviews and I followed him filming every move he made. And when he went to the motorhome, he grabbed my hand and made me walk to his room. His hands on my face, kissing me with a big smile. "Hug me, mi sol" he whisoered and I giggled, wrapping my arms around him. "I'm proud of you".

But what started had to end, right? The IndyCar season started, and I was part of the Formula 1 season. We couldn't be together.

It was a night for only the two of us, his last day in Formula 1 before returning to his own world. Laying on bed, naked, skin to skin and our chests raising up and down, I looked at him. "Hold me close, it's too soon to say goodbye" I asked him, and he wrapped his arm around me, kissing me. "You are so beautiful, Mel. You got me in the sky" he whispered.

The next day I went with him to the airport. To say goodbye. Or that's what I thought.

"Be mine" he asked when we heard the speakers calling for his flight. "What?". I looked a thin surprised. "Be my girlfriend". "Pato we can't. We won't work... we are on different sides". "If we never try we never know what we could be" he said grabbing my hand. I looked at him and nodded, smiling amd kissing him.

A reserve driver changed my life.
