Hey hey hey! Once again, it’s me. Was wondering if you’d write the young on Melida/daan + eldritch obi-wan? Please and thank you. This universe gives me life :)

War is not meant for children.

That doesn’t mean it isn't fought by them. When they are the only ones willing to stand against the senseless slaughter and argue for peace. When the children are the only ones that answer the call to end the war that’s silenced them for centuries.

They can’t call for aid, can’t pay for hired guns or supplies or even shelter.

But the Jedi come and there is hope, and then the Jedi leave again and they are left with a thin boy without the weapon he has learned to use all his life and nothing but a vibroblade to substitute it.

Neild thinks they’ve lost then. Cerasi argues that so long as they breath they can’t be lost. Obi-wan Kenobi smiles with oddly sharp teeth and tells them that sometimes all there is left is hope. And the determination for change.

Runil, the little medic tells them that they can’t lose him with wide eyed wonder and three living breathing children that should be long dead in the ditch they found them in. She tells them that he is the miracle worker they’ve needed with that desperate hope they’ve barely kept alive.

(The oldest is 10, probably older than Runil herself, Obi-wan won’t explain what he did to save her though she watched him lay a hand on her chest as she choked on blood and quite sobs. Runil is the daughter of two doctors long lost to the war and even she isn’t certain it’s something she could even understand.)

None of them know what to make of the figure he cut’s on the battlefield. Half as tall as any of their enemies and yet the blaster weighs heavy in thin hands and never misses a shot. Neild sees the way he moves, sees the way the world moves with him. Dust and stones hanging in the air around him as he darts for his target with an efficiency Neild can’t begin to understand.

He see’s the way Obi-wan’s head snaps to the side and his hand rises, pulling thin air and jerking Locc off his feet from half the field away as the ground beneath him explodes. The younger boy should be dead, not shaking and bleeding from a dozen cuts. Obi-wan seems to disagree, a snarl on his face as he pulls the boy to him and raises a hand. A dozen mines explode across the field and Neild thinks maybe he was wrong.

Maybe the war isn’t lost just yet.

Liberties

Here is an idea where liberties are taken and frankly not given back. This is a world where Cerasi survived Mawat’s assination attempt. Obi Wan never went back to Jedi. Instead he continued to help rebuild Melidaan and continued to follow the Force.  Every so often the Force would send him out into the galaxy to meet other Force Sensitives, and adopt them. This is a world where Obi Wan learns to own his attachments instead of repressing them. In addition every force sensitive that was active in the outer rim is eventually drawn to at least stop on Melidaan. Light or Dark; Sith, Jedi, and everything in between. Up to and including Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious in their alter egos. No one thinks to tell the Jedi High Council.

I picture Xanatos showing up, first because of his obsession with revenge against Qui Gonn, then after hearing Obi’s story being like ‘now we are truly brothers’. He is batshit insane and cheerfully vows not to sell Obi or any of Obi’s people into salvery every time he arrives but he is a genius for creating/managing resources and Obi would do anything for his chosen people, even reluctantly spending time with the man that is at the center a good chunk of his trauma.

Things get even weirder when Feemor is reunited with his lineage brothers. Frankly all of them need so much therapy.

At some point they (by they I mean the Young government in combination with the various Force users that pop in and out of their lives) create a school for force sensitives on Melidaan, just called The School. It is semi secret in that knowledge of it never quite reaches general knowledge in the core worlds but not through any actions on the part of the people involved. In that time Obi-Wan discovers something interesting. While about 90% of force users can use either side of the Force without issue, the evil comes from the actions not the side of the force, the other 10% is restricted to Dark or Light with the other side being akin to an addiction.  Exclusive dark side users are less common, due to an inherent recklessness that tends to get themselves killed, but they do exist.

Something nobody knows is that Yoda and the Master that trained him were both within that small percentage restricted to use of the Light side. He has assumed that his reaction to the dark is a commonality of all force users, not a restriction that he has.

Of the Sith of this time, in the years before Plageus died, Palpatine is the first to find his way to their out of the way little planet. It was mostly an accident, with the force subtly guiding his fingers to put in the wrong coordinates for a hyperspace jump. Though Palpatine does fall into the 90% that can use either side, he has been using the darkside almost exclusively for decades. Users of the darkside, particularly Sith, tend to see the force more of a servant than a teacher. Thus the Force, semi sentient, has to be much more subtle when dealing with Sith.

Palpatine is somewhat confused as he lands, for once listening to the force as it presses him forward. He had been headed for a vacation on Naboo.  At this time he is still a part of the current senator’s retinue, a few years away from being a senator himself. The people in the space port barely look at him before directing him up to The School.  It is generally assumed that any strange, unknown visitors looking vaguely confused about where they were have something to do with the Force and should be dealt with by Obi Wan. To be fair, this policy has only been wrong twice.

Palpatine is politely, but firmly, loaded into a transport and dropped off at the school.  None of his questions were answered along the way.  He spent a bit of the ride sort of wondering if he was being abducted, why he wasn’t more concerned or angry about that fact, and rationalizing following this weird feeling in the Force to its conclusion.

He is brought to Obi Wan’s office, as the head of the school. Obi Wan asks him if he prefers direct questions and answers or complicated politic conversation. At Palpatine’s surprised look,  Obi Wan goes on to say that they want people to be comfortable and he doesn’t have a preference.  Normally Palpatine would enjoy political back and forth but by this time his curiosity is piqued. The first question that Obi Wan asks is if Palpatine is aware of his own force sensitivity.  This serves to shock Palpatine into stillness, the only other person to clock his force sensitivity had been Plageuis many decades before. He had even managed to hide it on Coruscant from the High Council of the Jedi.

In the silence that followed Obi wan explained about this being a school for force sensitives that felt they had nowhere else to go.  Members of the Jedi Order that had been expelled or relegated to a corp due to lack of being chosen, Knights and Shadows who felt disconnected from the Order. There were also Force sensitive that had been exiled from their own planets due to their force sensitivity, escaped slaves, and more than a few that were there because the force said they should be. Obi Wan has pamphlets, which he hands over to Palpatine. Obi Wan went on to explain that Paplatine was free to explore his sensitivity here as long as the rules were followed:

No action that would deliberately cause permanent or long lasting injury to anyone on the planet, defined as any injury that cannot be healed in 48 standard hours, be it physical, mental, emotional, or psychic. The creation of soul wounds are never permitted on the planet as they are almost always permanent.

Unless agreed to previously, do not approach students or teachers of this school off this planet. Some may not be comfortable with their connection to The School being public knowledge.

As it is possible for members of this school to end up on different sides of a conflict, if one member recognizes another it is courtesy to ignore the other if possible. If not, then the courtesy of a quick death.

Any technique that will change the environment or the Force on the planet toward either the Dark or the Light will only be performed only with the permission of the School Board and the Planetary government.  The only exception will be 4 specially dedicated areas:

An area on the West side of campus dedicated to the Dark

An area on the East side of campus dedicated to the Light

An area to the South that is dedicated to combining beginner to mid level Dark and Light techniques that is open to anyone.

An area to the North dedicated to combining advanced Dark and Light techniques that requires special authorization.

The use of these areas is predicated on the results of what is effectively a Force Allergy test to ensure that the being falls into the 90% that can use either side without harming themselves

All experimental techniques used on this planet that have a test subject must have a written waiver from the subject stating that they agree to the test, with full knowledge of the potential risks and no coercion to the part of the testor.

Experimental techniques that have a greater that 75% chance of one of the following must be pre approved by the School Board and the Planetary Council:

Changes to the environment, the Flora, the Fauna, or the Force lasting more than 1 hour

Death

A soul wound

Permanent or Long Lasting injury, as defined above.

Acceptance of responsibility of any and all beings created or changed through the Force

Avoid Building 15, for the thing it houses is an abomination even to itself. Unless, of course you discover how to give it the release of death. Then please contact the administrator of facility management.

All of these rules were written into a contract that was enforced by the Force itself through a humanoid conduit.  Apparently one of the Light and Dark mixed techniques that was discovered was for a Force Sensitive to tie themselves to a planet becoming an avatar of the Force on that planet. This avatar can then enforce a force based contract, and can remotely wipe the memories of breaches of contract depending on the severity.

By the time Palpatine leaves he is not sure how he was convinced to sign the contract but he is glad he did. He is also mentally revising all of his empire plans to make sure this planet, which he finally determines is Melidaan, is protected at all costs and is now central to the reconditioning of initiates and padawans of the Jedi when the time comes.  He will later bring Plagueis to the school as well, with similar results. Though they do continue their more objectionable experiments, they are kept carefully off Melidaan.

For a decade this continues. Light and Dark agree that Obi Wan, and through him his new people, are precious and should be protected at all costs.  Just before TPM starts Obi is drawn to Tattoine, into the slave quarters. He is not a stranger to this planet or nearly any planet on the outer rim but he has never been to this outpost, these slave quarters before.  The Force ensures that he meets Shmi and Anakin two week before the Naboo delegation lands. The Force, so much clearer after a decade of being listened to, whispers that this boy is to be a younger brother and student to him but not yet. They must wait.  He is just as eloquent in this life and explains the Force and his feelings to Shmi, backed by Anakin.

When Qui Gon Jinn arrives two weeks later Obi Wan is introduced as Ben, a friend of the family. Jinn does not recognize Ben as the student he once left behind. In fact he does not ever realize that he and Anakin are not the only Force Sensitives in the room. Anakin is a bit worried because the Force is saying that he needs to go with the Jedi, but he also wants to go with Obi Wan. Obi wan tells him quietly that just because the Force says go with the Jedi, it doesn't mean he will have to stay with the Jedi forever.

There is no attack from Maul, as he is intercepted by Obi Wan. The two have a brief chat about what brought Maul to the planet. No one who knows him questions Obi Wan showing up in strange places. Maul is there to find an unfortunate being that had managed to steal from one of Maul’s Master’s smaller holdings. They hadn’t gotten away with much, but had taken a small statuette that he had been planning to donate to Obi Wan’s school for study.

After the Naboo delegation, Jinn, and Anakin leave the planet, Obi Wan and Maul trek back to Mos Espa.  They find the Ill fated thief, whom Maul sticks in a prison cell on his ship, retrieves the stolen artifact, as well as enough money to buy Shmi Skywalker’s freedom. They do the latter and Maul drops Shimi and Obi Wan back off on Melidaan, where Obi Wan announces that Shimi is the mother of their newest kin to Nield, Cerasi, and a visiting Xanatos.

Everyone just kind of rolls their eyes and goes back to what they were doing, baring Xanatos.  This was far from the first time that Obi Wan had adopted someone, or increased their family abruptly. The darksider wanders over and begins to flirt, heavily, with Shmi.

Side Note: I picture Shmi to be about early 40’s at the time of TPM.  If Xanatos had lived he would have been 37, so it could have worked.

Obi Wan assures Shmi that Xanatos wouldn’t hurt her and would stop if she wanted him to. Thus assured she starts to flirt back, is slightly awkwardly because social norms for a slave are very different from that of freepeople.

Obi wan announces he is going to their new brother and leaves, going back to Coruscant for the first time since he arrived at Melida/Daan.  He arrives as Qui Gon Jinn is proclaiming his intention to take Anakin as a Padawan. The entire council is surprised when a redhead in his twenties just wanders into one of the most secure chambers in the temple, and not through the front door. In reality every Jedi learns as an initiate how to sneak around in the temple, even into the council chamber. It was a bit of a rite of passage to prank the council chamber at least once when in the Creche. Obi Wan certainly remembers.

None of the Jedi in the room recognize him.

So Obi Wan appears, looking amused and like he had just happened to wander into these highly protected chambers that even other Jedi don’t always have access to. The High Council of the Jedi are looking at each other like ‘Da fuq?’ Anakin lights up and runs to hug Obi Wan, calling him Ben. Jinn peers at Obi Wan, having only barely realized he was actually a person when they met in Shmi’s home, whom he doesn’t recognize.

Side Note: I sort of head cannon Jinn, when separated from his mountain of trauma and trauma responses, is almost an oblivious scientist type, think Wayne Szalinski from ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’. In his element he is a prodigy, but he also would wander around only partially dressed because he had an idea, or in Qui Gon’s case he was distracted by something to do with the Living Force. Still an asshole, but mostly out of obliviousness or his pile of trauma rather than maliciousness.

The council tries to find out who Obi Wan is or how he got there but he is enigmatic. He just says he is here to pick up his kin, Anakin, if it was time. He directs this as a question toward Anakin, ignoring the council. Anakin gets thoughtful and says that the Force says it is not time yet, but that Ben could come with them until it is.  Obi Wan nods but continues to dodge any attempt to get more information out of him about who he is, making pithy comments.

Just before the tension this is causing could erupt, the large doors of the council chamber slam open, startling everyone. Quinlan Vos, dragging Bant Eerin, bursts into the room at speed. As soon as they cross the threshold he drops Bant’s hand and practically jumps on Obi Wan with a loud cry of “OBI”. Bant looked at them like she couldn’t believe that he was here. Quinn had been to Melidaan, as had most of the Shadows. In fact, of Obi Wan’s temple friends, it is Bant who he has not had a chance to speak to in person in a decade. She is Temple Bound as a healer.

Obi Wan grumbles fondly about how Quinn gave his identity away. He had at least four more pointed answers, designed to make Qui Gon Jinn burst a blood vessel. Why yes, Obi Wan is slightly bitter about the whole abandoned in a war zone, why do you ask?

It isn’t until Bant sobs Obi Wan’s name that anyone realizes who is standing in the chamber. Qui Gon get even more agitated seeing the padawan he abandoned being clung to by the shiny new prophecy child he found.

Removed

This one will wind to some dark places, and I am not sure it will get better yet. Also Jango Fett is not such a good person in this. Frankly, neither is Qui Gon Jinn.

We start on Melida/Daan. Obi Wan has been with them for nearly a year and The Young are winning, pushing for their peace. The Elders are approached by the Sith (Plagius or Sidious, it matters little) with an offer to pay to be allowed to take The Young. The Elders agree and the Young, Obi Wan included, are removed from the planet. For their trouble, the Elder are paid with enough weaponry that they wipe the planet of any life within five years.  Many of the children have a mild force sensitivity that seems to behave strangely around Obi Wan.

Most are used for experiments, including Obi Wan. Some are used to further Mauls training in the dark side of the force. Maul…hates these pitiful souls less than he does most.  He still does every horrible, vile thing that his Master requires but does not go out of his way to cause pain and offers the compassion of a quick death to the ones he can. He even speaks to the subject in between experiments and feels something like a kinship with them.

For ten years Obi Wan and the rest of the Young are experimented on and tortured in every manner imaginable. Most have died in agony and the ones that live consider the dead the lucky ones. To the fascination of the Sith Masters not a single one of the force sensitive children have reached for the dark. It is almost like they are incapable of it.

When it comes time for Jango Fett to become the template for the clones, he is also given Obi Wan Kenobi as stress relief. As this Jango has no want for sex, this means being an outlet for his anger, a punching bag. At Jango Fett’s insistence force suppressing cuffs and a force suppressing collar are sealed (welded) onto Obi Wan. This leaves him entirely unable to actively use the Force but Sith experimentation has left a passive ability to heal from almost anything. In this situation this is not actually a positive.  (Another side effect no one can figure out, he stayed looking 16 until Cody's batch reached that age, then proceeded to age along with them). At the time that Obi Wan was gifted to Jango Fett, 5 of The Young, other than Obi Wan, still live.  He is pulled from them, knowing that he will never be allowed to ask after them.

Jango Fett is only given a single qualifier as to what he can use Obi Wan for: If he kills Obi Wan, they will not replace him.

On Kamino he is an anachronism.  When not acting as Jango Fett’s punching bag he drifts through the halls, speaking rarely to the non clones.  Several of the trainers watch him with a strange twist of guilt on their faces. They watch the bruises that are so consistent in size and shape that it looks like a patch of purple, black, and green moving across his skin over time. They take in the perennially blistered and infected skin around the collar and cuffs.  They see this and say nothing.

For the clones it is both different and the same. They grow up knowing that this Obi Wan was no more free than they were. No matter the circumstances of his birth, he was a brother. To be protected when they could.  He held their secrets, their fears. He was the primary source of compassion in their lives. He protects them when he can and they never begrudge the times where he can’t (When he finds out about Priest’s fight club, he vanishes into Jango Fett’s apartment. No one knows what was said or done but when they emerge, Janog Fett is willing to exert himself to end the Fight Club and Priest’s other abuses. Obi Wan limps behind him with 20 meticulously broken bones in his right foot).

In this universe, as a last act of pettiness, Qui Gon Jinn takes Bruck Chun as a padawan a year after he leaves Obi Wan on Melida/Daan. His attention inadvertently prevented Xanatos from getting into Brucks head. They are a middling pair. Both are just a touch too arrogant to truly work well with others and they do tend to echo each other's worst traits but it is subtle enough that Bruck makes it successfully to knighthood a year before the Naboo crisis.  Jinn still finds Anakin on Tatooine, still wins his freedom and brings him back to the temple.  Though he had been unaccompanied at the start of the mission, his report means that three other knights ended up on Naboo with him. With this extra manpower Darth Maul is taken alive, to be locked in a cell in the Jedi temple.  Qui Gon Jinn lives to take on Anakin’s training.

This Anakin is not as confident in his abilities. No matter what he does, he always gets the sense that Jinn expected better. By the same token Jinn is not too young and grieving, not overwhelmed with sudden responsibility. Palpatine cannot get the same hold he had on Anakin in another life.

It is Anakin that finds Kamino in this life. Jinn clocked his crush on Padme and decided he did not want them alone together (Less chance of the Chosen One deciding to leave).   The clones, believing that Obi Wan had been given to Jango Fett by the Jedi (Something that Obi Wan can’t quite dispute), hide him from Anakin. After Fett’s death, they feared that Obi Wan would be taken away.  So they decide to hide him in the 212th with Cody.

The two had been inseparable for years now, soulmates though neither thinks the term (In my head this is a queerplatonic relationship, in part due to the trauma they both have undergone). In fact, in this world Cody’s scar is deliberate, something that he (along with Fox and Ponds) devised to ensure that no matter how disoriented or afraid, Obi Wan would never see Cody as Jango Fett (His ability to tell the clones apart is not based in the Force, due to the cuffs. That does not stop Obi Wan from being able to tell each clone apart, no matter what).

And so to the 212th, under General Qui Gon Jinn and his Padawan Commander Anakin Skywalker, goes a trooper named Shield (for Obi Wan has always been their shield).  The clones do not, can not, trust the Jedi.  They almost never remove their helmets in this world, save for when they were safely in the barracks so that Shield could move around freely.  The Jedi could not sense him, due to the force suppressing cuffs and collars.

If we were to go with the cliches, Obi Wan would be revealed by accident in the most dramatic way possible.

This is not what happened. The clones know that Obi Wan hiding as Shield is not a long term solution and the medics would really like permission to remove, along with help removing, the Force suppressors.

8 months into the war, Plo Koon earns the full trust of the clones. With Obi Wan’s permission Wolffe approaches his general to tell him and abbreviated version of what was going on (a non clone who was living as a trooper, he had been on Kamino as Jango Fett’s punching bag, they want him to become an official member of the GAR so that he doesn’t need to hide any more).

Jedi Master Plo Koon is faintly horrified by even the vague details and agrees to meet with trooper Shield. When he asks about having Qui Gon at the meeting, Wolffe twitches. All the clones know who General Jinn is to Obi Wan, so they trust him even less than most Jedi. Jinn is not cruel to the Clones, but he treats them as he does most people he interacts with (Jinn cares little for the practicalities of their lives, so long as they continue to act in the way he expects. Thus he will call them by a preferred name if they request it but never asks for their names).  The next time the battalions meet, Cody and Shield meet privately with Wolffe and Plo Koon.

Shield removes his helmet; gaunt faced, red haired, and clean shaven (Having never grown a beard due to some mix of injuries and the Sith experiments). Plo thinks he looks familiar and Obi Wan bows respectfully. Plo gently begins to ask for information.  Obi wan gives his name, but it still takes Plo a number of minutes to realize who he is talking to (In his defense it had been more than 20 years and Obi Wan is not the only youngling that has decided to leave the Order). Even after Plo realizes who Obi Wan is, they talk at cross purposes for several minutes. Plo Koon, of course, was under the impression that Obi Wan left the order to be with a girl two decades before. Obi wan believes he was rightfully abandoned for endangering Master Tahl, and cannot quite disbelieve the idea that it was the Jedi, or some Jedi, that gave him to Jango Fett.

As soon as Plo begins to gently question how Obi Wan ended up where he was, it became clear to the Kel Dor that information that was given to the High council twenty years before was at best wrong, at worst an outright lie.  He is horrified to see the mass of scar tissue and metal on Obi Wan’s neck and wrists and vows to help get it removed (Due to the burns and infection from when it was welded on and Obi Wan’s extraordinary ability to heal, flesh had grown over the edges of the metal), which would need to be done by the Temple Healers. He is heartbroken to realize what the clones, and Obi Wan, believe about how Obi Wan ended up on Kamino.  At the end he asks Obi Wan what he wants, going forward.

Obi Wan thinks for a moment, “To stay with Cody or, barring that, to stay with the clones in general. If possible, find out how the rest of The Young died and maybe be able to give them some kind of burial. If their remains can be found, that is.”

After the campaign, Plo conspires to have the 212th and the 104th recalled back to Coruscant. There he could have Obi Wan meet with the council in person. Coincidentally Bruck Chun, with his commander Alpha-17, are also on Coruscant. Knowing that having troopers appear before the council without their associated Jedi would raise many eyebrows, Plo has Qui Gon Jinn, Anakin Skywalker, and Bruck Chun called to the Council with order to bring Commander Cody, Commander Alpha-17 (since Obi had indicated having Alpha there would make him feel better), and trooper Shield with them. Wolffe waits with them while Plo briefs the Council. The Jedi in the waiting room are curious and confused as to why this one specific trooper (Shield/Obi Wan) has been called in and why all of the present clones seem to be hovering protectively.

They are called into the Council Chamber. Plo has told them very little (What Wolffe had told him plus that the non clone in question had been temple raised and was currently in Force Suppressing cuffs). In part he wants to see if the others will come to the same conclusions that he did. In part because while he doesn’t believe that any Jedi would have done what the clones think they did, he needs to be sure (and seeing their reaction to Obi Wan and his story first hand was the only way he could be).

When Shield removes his helmet, the only person who recognizes him immediately is Bruck Chun, who blurts out “Oafy-Wan?” and then is horribly embarrassed about it (At 13 he had been a bully, but he had grown into a decent adult, particularly since he was fighting a war, and is embarrassed that his first thought when seeing the other man was the insulting nickname from two decades before). The clones are not impressed with Bruck Chuns reaction (Alpha is growling outright at his general). Before Bruck could apologize, Yoda said Obi Wan’s name.

Obi Wan nods agreeably and says that is a name he has been called.  A question about the Force suppressing cuffs and collar (still covered by his blacks), has Obi Wan answering “Jango Fett insisted that I be unable to use the Force when I was given to him.” (Whenever he speaks of Jango, it is alway ‘Jango Fett’). It also becomes clear to the high council, Bruck Chun, and Anakin (though the latter has no idea of the backstory) very quickly that Qui Gon Jinn had lied to the council about how and why Obi Wan left the Order.

Every question that is asked of him seems to have a horrifying answer. When asked about The Young, he explains about the group of children trying to stop a war (the youngest was 5, the oldest 14 when he joined). The High Council grows very quiet as he speaks, this was not what they were told. Qui Gon Jinn shifts a little as a twenty year old lie is exposed, particularly as he is given a look from various members of the council that say they will be discussing this, soon. Mace asks why Obi Wan is so sure the Young are dead (as finding out how they died is one of the horrifically few things that Obi Wan is asking for). Obi Wan is silent for a moment then responds that he doesn’t for sure, but it has been 10 years and he hopes that the rest of the Young had found something like peace and that death was the most realistic way of that happening. He is asked why Obi Wan never tried to contact the Order during his year on Melida/Daan. He clones bristles at even the suggestion that their Shield was in any way responsible.

Obi Wan gave a semi confused look and said “My comm unit, like my lightsaber, belonged to the Jedi Order. How would I have done that?”

This was news to most of the Jedi present (Neither the comm or the light saber should have been taken). With the exception of Qui Gon Jinn (who admits that he should not have lied to the council but doesn’t think he did anything else wrong), Obi Wan (who has a skewed vision of how he should be treated), and the clones (who know this entire story and have moved onto anger) the entire room is abjectly horrified to realize that Jinn had abandoned Obi Wan in a war zone, weaponless, and with no way to call for help (Plo Koon in particular is halfway to breaking out the adoption paperwork for the entire GAR most of the time anyway, right now he is practically vibrating with the need to get them all away from a war).

Mace Windu brings the room back to order. He declares that the council needs to speak with Master Jinn (and the way that he said Qui Gon’s name indicated that the Master in the title might be temporary).  He asks Bruck and Anakin to escort the clones (with Obi Wan) to the healers so they could begin to get the cuffs and collar off.  It is up to Obi Wan if he wants to wear his helmet until he reaches the healing hall or not. The council could not guarantee out of hand that Obi Wan would be allowed to stay with Cody, but they would do everything in their power to make sure it happened.

Just before they leave, Obi Wan bites his lip and visibly struggles with something he wants to say. When prompted he explains that he has (over the course of his time on Kamino) seen virtually every step in the growth and decanting process for the clones. Every step except one, where he believes that something is embedded in the brains of each clone. He doesn’t know what it is or what it does, but he asks that the Jedi Council investigate since he is afraid it is something that will hurt the clones.

The walk to the healers was tense. Bruck and Anakin were both trying to silently work through what had just happened. It is a bit sad that neither are surprised at Jinn's actions. Vokara Che and Bant Eerin are the ones that meet them. Bant is angry with Obi Wan (because from her perspective he just left 20 years ago and never contacted her or their other friends again) but Bruck of all people stop her from saying anything hurtful by telling her there is more to it than she realizes.

Once they have all piled into a private room, Healer Che asks Obi Wan to take off his armor (No there was no good reason that the various hangers on were allowed to be there, they just kind of kept following and no one said anything about it). Obi Wan requests that the head medic for the 212th be called down, as he has been the most involved with treating his injuries and so would be able to answer questions better.  Cody helps Obi Wan remove his armor (The cuffs affect the way that his wrists bend, making it harder to put on or remove certain pieces of the armor).

When his top comes off, all movement in the room ceases.  The skin of his torso is a patchwork of green and brown (the bruising he received over the past 10 years was so regular and deep that even 8 months after Jango Fett died they were still healing. The only reason that he did not have actual nerve damage was his healing abilities).  While the Jedi in the room can barely react under the horror of what they were seeing, Alpha looks at the patchwork, pleased. He comments that it all looks to be healing well.

Under the bruises were a map of scars, telling a horrifying tale.  The worst of which sat on each wrist and the base of his throat, metal digging into flesh and embedded in thick uneven scaring (A note on Obi Wan’s healing, as long as he lives he will heal. Things that should have become debilitating, life changing injuries heal into simple scars. Things that should have killed him because of infection do not. It does not speed up his healing, and though it takes much more he still bears scars).

When he is asked he tells them that the metal cuffs had been welded onto him. And yes he felt every minute of the metal being superheated.  Obi Wan would prefer to remain awake when the metal is removed (no they would not have to worry about him flinching because “Jango Fett did not like it when I flinched from the pain he wanted to inflict”). By the time he has won that argument, the 212th's head medic, Hypo, has arrived.

The process of removing each metal band takes 3 Jedi healers working in tandem and hours of painstaking, deeply disturbing work.  They save the collar for last. As the last piece of metal was pulled from his flesh, Obi Wan inhaled sharply.

“Three of the Young are still alive” he breathes, even as he doesn’t move.

Cody, who had been sitting carefully with Obi Wan, grips his hand. “Then we will help you find your family.” He promises.

In a Cell in the lower levels of the Temple, Darth Maul perks up as he feels a familiar Force Presence. He calls attention to a guard and demands to see Obi Wan Kenobi. The guards do not know who this is but pass along his request to the high council, who are a bit confused.

I am not sure where exactly it would go from here.  I would kind of want to see the 212th being handed over to Obi Wan, though I am not sure how it would be justified. I figure that the first time that Obi Wan meets the Chancellor he has a bad reaction (Due to the Chancellor being one of the people that had experimented on them) but is able to hide it, and passes along his suspicions. They do eventually find the three other surviving Young (Nield, Cerasi, Roenni) as well as children that they (and various other members of the Young over time) had been forced to have, there was even a child who had been fathered by Obi Wan (Who does not remember this and is deeply unhappy with those facts) who have all also been experimented on.

In Clones we trust

After Melida/Daan, Obi Wan learned to distrust the Healers. His time with the Young had left him distrustful of adults in general, but then several of the temple bound healer trainees react badly to the scars he earned in various battles (in their defense much of the reactions was horror at scars that should have been easily treated, Obi Wan simply ascribed the worst possible meaning to their reactions). This is compounded when, over the course of decades, almost all the healers found time to lecture Obi Wan on his self care habits (of which he has none), but without actually giving him any support to figure out what healthy habits are (Look, Obi Wan hasn’t felt safe to fall fully into sleep since he was in the sewers with Cerasi and Nield to watch his back. Telling him to get more sleep is true but not helpful).

Then the Clone Wars arrived.  Obi Wan was handed a Battalion. At the first available opportunity the head medic, Med, makes a point to sit down with Obi Wan. He knows that the Force gives his General the ability to do things that Med would consider insane and impossible.  He wants to get a baseline so that can make sure he can treat Obi Wan correctly.  And Obi Wan may not trust healers, but Medics were different.  Med gets his scans. It helps that Obi Wan quickly learned to trust the troopers, his men.

Med talks to Obi Wan about what exactly he can use the Force for, what he can heal in himself. When it would be realistic for Med to step in. What the effects of various types of suppressants would be with Obi Wan using the Force to take care of basic needs and what to do if he gets dosed.  Because Med’s every step focused on what Obi Wan’s reality actually is instead of what he wanted it to be, Obi Wan is much more likely to go to Medical and let himself be treated.

Sometime later he sits down with Obi Wan, and Cody (with Obi Wan’s permission), and briefly goes over what Cortisol, the stress hormone is, what it does to a body in the long term, and healthy vs unhealthy levels.  He shows Obi Wan his cortisol level, which is in dangerously high territory, even with the Force.  Med goes, “In a perfect world I would want your numbers to be a quarter what it is, but in a perfect world I wouldn't be patching my brothers to go back to battle.” and “Based on the scans we’ve taken if you can get two more hours of sleep per week, your cortisol levels should drop below the extremely damaging point. If you can do that and get one more hour of something you find relaxing every three days it should drop those levels into a high healthy.”

This, more than anything, was something Obi Wan had not been given by the healers. The temple healers focused on getting someone healthy, but often got too caught up in how to heal to think about what the patient thinks healthy should look like.  And Obi Wan might not know how to get something as nebulous as ‘more sleep’, but something concrete such as two more hours of sleep per week is a goal he can accomplish (It made him want to try ).

Cursed mostly crack au nonsense.

The real reason Palpatine hates Obi-wan so much is Not because he's the Master of the Chosen One™ and therefore in the way of his plans. Oh no.

Sheev Palpatine hates Obi-wan because Obi-wan turned him down when he asked him on a date. Sheev was like 'cute redhead that can hold an intelligent and scathing conversation. Score'. He thinks they'll go on a few dates and as a bonus he can convince Obi-wan to go Dark.

But Obi-wan always gets 'weird old man' vibes from him and politely declines.

Of course Palpatine is offended that Obi-wan turned him down. Hes a catch. Anyone would be flattered to go on a date with him. How dare he! What do you mean he's fucked the Organas?? What do they have that i dont?!

So starts the long passive aggressive murder attempts.

Except. Every once in a while Palpatine tries to shoot his shot again. Its a matter of pride. He hints that maybe these assassins will go away if Obi-wan agrees to go on a date with him.

Obi-wan is like 'ah. Youre one of Those types' and doubles down on declining Palpatines date invites. Not once does it occur to him to Tell Anybody what Palpatine is doing.

This continues for a Long time. Then, midway through the war Padme pulls Anakin to the side and asks very politely if Anakin would talk to his good friend Palpatine about leaving Obi-wan alone. Anakin, having had no idea anything was going on, asks wtf shes talking about. So padme explains that during one of her and Obi-wans friendly bitching Tea dates that Obi-wan let slip that the Chancellor was trying to pressure him into a relationship by using his position of power over the republic, the Jedi, and Anakin himself. Obi-wan usually wouldnt have said anything but one of the assassins shot at one of his men instead of him and thats 'a step too far' and Obi-wan is a sleep deprived irritated mess.

Anakin of course goes a little unhinged at this information. No one threatens his brother-dad like that. So he goes to confront Palpatine, because maybe it's been a misunderstanding, but maybe it hasn't been.

So he confronts Palpatine, who doesn't deny it and instead makes his biggest mistake. He asks anakin to convince Obi-wan to agree. The 'Or Else' isn't said, it isn't even really implied, but Anakin hears it anyway. And he remembers what that kind of thing means on Tatooine.

Anakin goes even more unhinged. Theres a misunderstanding between Anakin and Palpatine where Palpatine thinks Anakin has figured him out as a sith but Anakin just thinks he's a predator. It turns into a fight.

There are explosions and saber duels and lightening.

When the dust clears Palpatine is dead and Anakin has curled himself around Obi-wan like 'its okay, he's dead now. He can't threaten you ever again'. Obi-wan is like 'thank you. I love you. But wut?'.

Both are sent off on a long vacation. Anakin because he was being groomed by a Sith lord and because the stress from the war has clearly caused something to snap. Obi-wan because he was being romantically pursued by a Sith Lord, the stress from the war, and because Anakin wont let him out of his sight.

Of course Ahsoka and the 212th and 501st go with them. Padme stays behind to help girlboss the Senate into getting their shit together.

Cody is a little salty he didn't get a chance to kick Palpatine in the dick (Its also a codywan au), but he claps Anakin on the shoulder and goes 'Good job son'. Anakin cries.

Protective Rage Obi Wan

Here is another story idea that is the culmination of several ideas that I need to get out of my brain soup.

It starts on the bridge of the Negotiator, in orbit over Coruscant. It is a full bridge, including Rex and Cody, Anakin, Obi Wan, and Ahsoka. In comes a very injured, filthy Quinlan Vos limping in (among other injuries is a compound leg fracture that is visibly gangrenous).

Vos presses a data chip into Obi Wan’s hand and tells him that it is coded just before he collapses. He is delirious and rambling about needing to protect ‘them’ so that ‘he’ doesn’t have to deal with Vos any longer, with some of the phrases he uses in regards to himself remind Cody of how Fox speaks (Everything was sparked by Fox having a shitty day, what with the abuse by the senate and the mind control by the Chancellor. He said some poorly phrased mean things to Vos, who took them a little bit too much to heart.  Something to the effect of “Take your abnormal powers and go do something useful with them”) and how Vos thought ‘he’ had seen him beyond being a Jedi and he was tired of having his heart broken (Here Jedi are called Abnormal, child stealing freaks of nature so often that hearing any one part brings the rest).

Obi Wan is basically cradling his head and soothing him while Vos lay on the floor. He refused to let the medics anywhere near Vos, saying that Vos’s gifts (his psychometry) were such that he could only be treated by a Jedi healer (The medics are visibly and audibly unhappy about this but Obi Wan actually makes it an order).   Obi Wan has them call the Jedi Temple to send Bant up for Quinlan, also asking her to bring the her decoder (Reeft had built one for each of his crechemates) as that was the only thing that could decode the data chip that Vos had given him (Obi Wan’s was in his quarters in the temple).

Bant and a Padawan Healer arrive, wearing slightly strange looking robes and gloves. The Padawan takes Obi Wan’s place sitting at Vos’s head, while Bant starts pulling out crystals and other things to diagnose everything that is wrong before they move him. Obi Wan takes the decoder and steps away to read the data chip. Bant turns to the Padawan and goes: “Pop quiz, why do we have special gear for Master Vos?” The Padawan responds after a moment of thought “His Psychometry is so strong and his injuries have wiped his shields , so without the specially made clothing we are wearing or shields as strong as Master Kenobi, he would feel anything and everything that got within about two feet of him. That would likely drive him into insanity and death.” (The Medics, who had been looking mutinous that they were not allowed to treat someone on the ship, started to look a little sheepish).

Though Obi Wan still appears to be entirely calm as he read the information that was on the data chip (The inhibitor chips and Order 66, maybe proof that Sidious was trying to turn Anakin, maybe something about how Sidious had fucked with Anakin’s mind, leading both sides of the war) but very abruptly both the Padawan and Ahsoka (Not Anakin, he is a bit oblivious empathically) faces turn to look at Obi Wan as he very politely and very calmly excuses himself.

Bant, still working on stabilizing Vos, says absently “Huh. Haven’t felt Obi get that angry in years.” Everyone in the room just looks at where Obi Wan had exited, because he does not seem angry. Bant continues with “Last time was when Anakin was about 11, his writing teacher didn’t like him and was deliberately sabotaging his work.  Obi found out, left Anakin with Quinn and Aayla, then proceeded to track the teacher down and beat the shit out of him. He threw him through two windows, methodically breaking every bone in both his body, all the while calmly explaining why the teacher’s behavior was unacceptable. As soon as the teacher healed, he decided that teaching was no longer his calling. Last I heard he was somewhere in wild space, trying to stay as far away from Obi or Anakin as possible.”

Cody receives a message from one of the hanger crew saying that General Kenobi had left the ship, stating that he had some business to attend to. In the background is Anakin, looking shocked and going “That’s what happened to that teacher.”

Meanwhile, the Senate is in session. It is one of the rare sessions it is being broadcast live to the entire galaxy, so there are new crews recording when High General Obi Wan Kenobi enters and uses the Force to launch himself into The Supreme Chancellor’s pod.  Obi Wan breaks the Chancellor’s jaw (thus preventing him from speaking and activating Order 66), and proceeds to very methodically beat the shit out of him.  All the while ranting very calmly about why the Supreme Chancellor's actions were unacceptable. He spends quite a bit of time on “How dare you enslave the troopers” and “You are not laying a hand on Anakin again” and “Killing off my family is bad”.

Though he can’t speak, it becomes clear that he is the Sith they have been looking for. There is force lightning, which just seems to be absorbed by Obi Wan’s rage. A red lightsaber is pulled. Obi Wan catches that arm, breaks it and throws the lightsaber away.  Eventually he kills Palpatine, either just beating him to death, or pulling his own lightsaber and decapitating him.  Then he uses the force to pull Amedda to him.

He’s just holding Amedda above the rotunda and says to him, “Now that that is taken care of. I’m sure you are just as concerned with the Clones' lack of rights as I am, right?”

Amedda has never been more sure in his life that he is very concerned about Clone rights.

Obi Wan beams at the entire Senate and says, clear as a bell, “Oh good, I had hoped I would only have to kill one politician today.”

With Obi just standing there, holding a dangling Amedda, the Clone Rights bill is passed unanimously, full citizenship is granted along with guaranteed representation in the Senate. The senate is sure that they all get back pay, all the way back to their decatning date, since they have trained all of their lives. The Clones are given a small planet with its own terraformed moon in the mid rim.  The Kaminoans decide that they will be handing all of their research off to the Clones without argument.

Obi Wan lands the pod, puts Amedda down, and waits patiently to be arrested. He is very aware that he just beat a man to death on galactic wide and live.  He is more than willing to face the consequences (he has no idea what the consequences are).  No one can quite figure out if what he had done was illegal or not, technically the Supreme Chancellor was a Sith and the leader of the Separtist so as both a high general and a Jedi, Obi Wan was allowed to kill him. However he did just beat a politician to death on live TV.  The Coruscant Guard looks at each other going, “uhhh, he just beat a man to death…for us. We’re not arresting him.”

The GAR look at each other and go ‘soooo…clearly General Kenobi is the leader of the Vode.’ Commander Cody is really glad he is in his armor because he is having a highly inappropriate reaction (he is not the only one having a highly inappropriate reaction. Most of the galaxy may be having a bit of a crisis.)

The Separatists declare they are surrendering to High General Kenobi.

Deathwatch sees this fight and collectively goes “Kenobi is our Mandalore, right?” They capture Maul, who is also a bit conflicted (he hates Kenobi, but he might hate his former Master more and the violence was beautiful), which lets them capture him and deliver him to the Coruscant temple (They are the sixth crime syndicate to deliver their leaders to the temple, having decided to go straight.) They are very clear that the Darksaber is for Obi Wan Kenobi. Death watch decides that they need to prove themselves to their new Mandalore, for having not realized he was their leader earlier. They rewatch the fight, realize that their Mandalore has FEELINGS about slavery, also loves the clone army. So they set off into the galaxy to prove their loyalty by eliminating slavery, and possibly by offering assistance to any clone that they come across.

The New Mandalorians talk amongst themselves and are like “Look, I know we’re pacifists but…” and even Satine is going, “No, no that’s fair.”  There is some more furtive discussion and they start going “Maybe we can have a little violence?” and Satine’s advisers start talking about how Satine and Obi Wan had a Thing once upon a time and wouldn’t it be nice if he was their Duke, maybe as a way to offer the Clones citizenship (I am feral over CodyWan but this could also be a lead in to Obitine  or Cody/Satine/Obi Wan.)

Mace Windu and Yoda arrive at some point and Obi Wan asks about Vos. Fox is hovering right there, trying to pretend that he is not concerned (Vos had not come to bother them in weeks after Fox had screamed at him after a really shitty day. Fox does not want to admit that he missed the Kiffar). Obi Wan, with an eavesdropping Fox, is told that Vos’s leg had been broken and ignored for at least five days, that he was likely to lose it (He had to have dropped at least 100 levels to get a break like that). They also say that he is not healing (Fox’s words did some deep damage, triggered other issues, and left Vos feeling like he had nothing to wake up for.) like he should and he is comatose in the Halls of Healing. Fox manages to get permission to follow them to check on Vos, for “official” reasons (he says it’s because his men would be concerned and to keep them from cluttering up the Halls of Healing. It absolutely has nothing to do with the way his stomach dropped when he heard that Vos had been hurt).

On the ride back over to the Temple, Mace and Obi Wan talk about  Vos’s ramblings at the beginning. From the way they talk it really isn’t clear if they are aware that Fox is the one that spoke so harshly to Vos or not but Fox recognizes his own words.  Once they get to the Halls of Healing it becomes really obvious, really quickly that Fox being there is helping Vos heal.

At some point Obi Wan finds out that he is considered the unofficial, and if he wanted official, leader of the Mandalore sector.  By this point he has already left the Order to lead the Vode (and get together with Cody for the CodyWan version).  Anakin and Padme have also joined them on their shiny new planet and are happily pregnant.

Au idea

Obi-wan 'I see dead People' Kenobi.

The boy has always been able to see the ghosts of past jedi and sometimes even a dead sith or 2.

Little 4 year old Obi-wan looking Master Yoda right in the eyes and telling him that fucking Jedi Knight Revan thinks his ideas are dumb and he says Obi-wan should go be a pirate. (Once Revan realized Obi-wan could see and hear him he was like 'im causing problems on purpose' just to rile up the council)

Fucking Tarre Viszla is constantly nagging him about getting armor (he does eventually give in to this)

The day he looked at the council and parroted some heretical ideology from a jedi 1000 years dead was the day Qui-gon was like "this is my child now". He had to fight Madam Nu for him. The match was a tie. They have joint custody.

For the longest time everyone thought Obi-wan was making shit up but that got quickly thrown out. It's hard not to believe it when he's spilling the beans about something Yoda did when he was 3 that only Yoda's Master and crechemaster should know about.

Shit gets less funny and more scary when the fucking Sith Ghosts come to talk to him. Obi-wan coming to his crechemaster like Darth Immolation just tried to coerce him to the darkside again and wont go away, he just wants to eat his cookies and drink his juice in peace.

Jedi ghosts and Sith ghosts fucking bickering whenever they are forced to interact. Its mostly Darth Whomever being bullied by the Jedi until they go away.

Jedi Shadows having to dust off the 'How to banish Sith Ghosts' manuals that haven't been touched since just after the last sith war.

Qui-gon slowly learning how to communicate with the dead jedi as well. Hours spent in the archives. In sith ruins. In jedi ruins. On Jedah. Qui-gon getting heckled by a gaggle of dead jedi every time he fucks something up once he can see/hear them.

Obi-wan and his posse of dead jedi masters. Their connection to Obi-wan gives them the limited ability to interact with the physical world. So spooky ghost shit is always happening around him. They will hide your shit if youre being rude to their grandson/padwan/bff/only-connection-to-the-world/whatever the fuck he is.

Anakin shows up and he learns to hear them in the force. This somehow leads him to avoid Sheev and go to therapy. The ghosts bullied Qui-gon and Obi-wan into therapy too.

Obi-wan explaining to his clone troopers that no he isn't crazy. He is talking to the ghost of a jedi that has been dead for 1000 years about battle tactics. No really. Ask the temple healers and the rest of the council. Yes Boil ghosts are real. Please calm down. Yes theyre the ones that left the creepy note on the fresher mirror about washing your hands.

Oh fuck. The Living Council having to come to terms with the fact that Obi-wan being on the council means they now have a Dead Council they have to deal with. Mace has never been more entertained than when listening to Obi-wan argue with Yoda on their behalf. He should start bringing snacks.

Obviously this saves the galaxy. Somehow. Most of the ghosts are from a time around the last sith wars? They can sniff out any sith business when Obi-wan is close to it? One of them find Sheevs lightsaber? Idk.

Part 7/7 - Previous / First

Track: ‘Enemy’ - Tommee Profitt, Beacon Light, Sam Tinnesz

Commander Fox figured he couldn’t become any more scared than he was now, having just watched Quinlan Vos take a grenade for him. He had felt that grip of fear so many times reading reports of his brothers, missing or in critical condition and wondering if he would ever see them again. But watching Quinlan throw himself at an explosive headed directly for Fox was surely some sort of peak, Fox believing he was about to witness the man he had come to love be blown apart in front of him.

Even now, knowing that Quinlan had used the force to redirect most of the shrapnel and part of the blast, Fox was still constricted in the feeling. Quinlan stood shakily, bracketed by Fox and his fellow guard brothers as they worked to keep him alive; though the Jedi still insisted on helping fight, and Fox was certain that if they lived through this then he had finally faced the worst.

But kriff if his brothers were not always determined to prove him wrong.

Fox could only watch in horror as Palpatine, the man who had abused him, ignored him, manipulated everyone and turned his family against him, was now slashing at those same brothers with a manic and pure evil Fox knew all too well. Though it wasn’t until Gree came sailing out of seemingly nowhere that Fox realized what was happening.

You have to be with them.

Suddenly his fear was dissolving in a flare of vicious love. His brothers wouldn’t make it without him. That cut to Wolffe's thigh would leave him too exposed, Ponds seemed just a bit too slow to be safe, and that fury Cody carried had him cutting it close. He knew it like it was all he could be, the feelings threatening to overtake him.

His brothers needed him. And he was done letting Palpatine stop him from being there.

The sudden grip on his arm brought him back to his present like a splash of cool water, and Quinlan's tear streaked face came into view. “Promise me,” he gasped as Fox let him lean into him for a moment. “Promise you’ll come back.”

To me.

Fox felt his anger at Palpatine recede. That final hate was now replaced by the love he had carefully built with the man before him, and it was in this new calm that Fox felt more sure than ever; more safe and determined then any moment before. He was at peace with what needed to be done. Taking the now offered saber, he let his hand rest a moment over Quinlan's and then pressed their foreheads together. Even with the helmet Fox could feel the connection between them, as if he was actually able to sense the Force.

And for once, maybe he could.

“I promise cyare, win or lose, I will find you.”

Quinlan heaved in a breath. “Then go, and beat the ever loving sithspit out of him for me.”

“Oh, happily.”

Track: ‘We All Lift Together (From "Warframe")’ - Keith Power

They were on the other side of a raging inferno, a lava filled cut in this Sith forsaken planet. And despite it truly being too far to see what was happening clearly, Gree knew immediately that the people wielding sabers towards Palpatine were not the Jedi it should be.

The feeling of fear was only confirmed when Master Luminara came barreling onto their position. “Master Yoda! The force-”

“Calls for the clones, it does,” Yoda cut her off, slicing seamlessly through the droids on Gree's right.

Luminara seemed to be a mix of emotions, a turmoil Gree so rarely saw her suffer through. But in the end it seemed to have a peaceful conclusion. Luminara took a breath, then turned off her lightsaber. And before Gree could think of why she would do such a thing in the middle of a warzone, she was holding it out toward him.

“What- General, what am I supposed to do with that?”

“Protect us as you always have, Commander Gree,” she stated simply, as if there could be no other answer.

And then Yoda was beside her, having cleared the area for the needed moment of peace. “Your lives you always give. Ours, we give now.” And then Grand Master Yoda himself was offering his small lightsaber, blade end facing inwards.

It was all in a blink, but the two Jedi could feel the hesitation take hold of Gree. His fear of losing his family clashing against the fear of it being his fault, his failure. “Gree,” Luminara argued to the unspoken thought. “You have always listened and learned, always cared when all you were supposed to do was fight. Continue to open yourself to the world around you, the force flowing in it, and you will always be able to find your family amongst it. Together, you will all come back home.”

In a short breath Gree found that despite it all, a part of him knew she was right. This was right. Fighting with his brothers was what he was really made for. Learning from them, loving them, and protecting them no matter what. Why should this moment be any different? Why would he ever stop now?

Feeling the shift of hope, Yoda gave Gree a rare gremlin like chuckle. “Besides, remember how to make my stew, no one else can. Come back then, you shall.”

“We trust in you,” Luminara insisted, now smiling softly. “Always.”

It now felt so simple, like something within Gree was laughing that he ever thought there could be another path. His brothers, all of them; they needed this, needed him. And it was with a newfound determination that Gree finally nodded, gently taking the sabers and then holding them firm as he ignited them. The group was bathed bright in the color they shared, and though it was an odd sensation, Gree realized he knew exactly what he needed to do. But- “I’ll never reach them in time. They’re already fighting and I can’t-”

Yoda was suddenly shuffling past him, faster than the Gree always suspected he ever should be. “Trust in the force, you clones may not always; but trust in me, do you?”

“Of course,” Gree answered, a bit surprised at how quick the answer came now.

“Then jump, you shall.” Yoda outstretched a sure hand toward him. “And trust, you will.”

Track: ‘Warriors’ - Imagine Dragons

Ponds didn’t consider he would ever be able to use a lightsaber, but Mace Windu seemed to think otherwise as he pushed it into Pond’s hand.

“Sir I can’t! I won’t be able to help them, I-I-”

“Commander Ponds,” Mace stated, leaving no room for an argument as he crushed a droid's head with the Force alone. “You have lived through everything, stood by my side every step of the way and then some, and have been faithful to your brothers from the beginning.” Mace forced two droids to turn on each other as they fired, Ponds taking a few shots behind the Jedi to cover his back. “The force is calling for you to continue being you, to continue being someone I am proud to call my friend. Don’t let that last shred of fear and doubt convince you that you, or any of your brothers, are anything but men worth living for!”

Ponds spun back and met Mace Windu's hard gaze, the world crashing to a halt. It was a familiar look, one that spoke of a wisdom and assuredness, and drove what he had said to the center of Ponds very soul. Before him was a man who people had doubted, who had walked the edge of hatred and managed to hang on to his beliefs. Someone who would risk everything he was to give another the chance to become who they needed to be.

Exactly like he was doing now.

The weight of the saber suddenly became lighter, and Ponds found himself breathing steady as he raised the hilt between them. Something within himself began burning under Windu's stare, something that guided his movements to ignite the weapon. And as they were bathed in the iconic purple light, Ponds didn’t feel anything but faith. Faith in the saber, faith in his Jedi, and faith in his brothers. And as he lowered it, Windu now wore the faintest of smiles.

“Don’t forget we have a sabacc rematch soon, Commander.”

“Wouldn’t miss it for the world, sir," Ponds promised.

Track: ‘Unstoppable’ - Sia

Bly had never really argued with his general like this, but he supposed that came with falling in love with them. The second Rex had lit those lightsabers he had wheeled on Aayla and asked for her saber, which she had not exactly taken well.

“You’ll die!” She shouted as she watched Rex fly towards the Sith and surely a quick demise.

“General please! He's my little brother, I have to try!”

“I-” the twi'lek paused, her anger dissipating. Tears sprung to her eyes as the fighting lulled for a moment and time seemed to slow. “Bly, please, don’t leave me like this.”

Bly shook his head and quickly slid up close to her; always by her side. “I would never.”

Aayla took a deep breath. She watched as now Cody went flying towards his brother regardless of the danger, as Obi-wan no doubt had taught him. She could even just make out Plo Koon through the fighting, saber off and being offered to his commander.

The force was singing a battle cry, but it wasn’t meant for her.

Bly let out a grunt as the saber hilt was basically punched against his chest. He went to take it and felt Aalya's other hand fall over his on the saber, it now being cradled between them on the precipice of something important.

A beat passed as their eyes met. Even with the helmet Bly knew Aayla could always truly see him. “I love you,” he told her, raw and quiet.

She gave him a small smile in return. “I know."

And as Bly took off towards Ahsoka's unofficial launch pad, watching Wolffe go howling through the air, he knew she loved him too.

Track: ‘Soldiers’ - Otherwise

Wolffe didn’t understand what was happening when Plo Koon was suddenly handing him his lightsaber. And he still couldn’t quite put the pieces together when he noticed Cody go flying through the air under Padawan Tano’s guiding force. But he definitely understood the tightness of fear in his chest when Rex and Cody ran directly at the Sith Lord who had just beaten one of the strongest Jedi he knew to exist.

“Son,” Plo Koon's voice cut through Wolffe's fear, a sense of calm in his storm, and dragged Wolffe back to the Kel Dor and his offered saber. “Your family needs you.”

Wolffe's world shifted to an odd halt as he considered what was happening. Thoughts that haunted him flooded through him, bit at the edges of his mind with doubt. What was he going to do? What could he ever do?

Wolffe has felt useless before, has lost everything in an instant. He has watched his brothers die often enough to wade constantly in hopelessness. And he remembers fruitlessly hugging his brothers close when they were all just cadets, wishing for an option other than the trials for war. There were so many times Wolffe, the supposed strong and intimidating commander he was, had only felt pointless and worthless. So many times he had cried to the galaxy to give them all something to hope for, something to make all the pain worth it.

And yet, Wolffe realized in a bright instant, he always had it. In his stillness he remembered how Plo Koon called him son, and meant it as much as Wolffe did calling Plo his Buir. How after each battle he would come back to the 104th and be greeted with just as much warmth from his brothers as respect, finding strength in each other. That at the end of the day, it was his family that had always kept him fighting, striving to stay hopeful and survive. It always had been and always will be his family that makes this life worth living, and he would do anything and everything to keep it that way.

Wolffe locked eyes with Plo Koon for a moment just long enough to convey everything he knew the Jedi could already see clearly. And as the world came crashing back to him he took the saber without an ounce of hesitation.

Cody had always said Rex would be the death of him, but he never thought about it quite so literally until he was watching his younger brother running headlong towards The Kriffing Sith Lord with two lightsabers in his hands. The cry Cody let out didn’t even sound like a word, simply a guttural feeling of fear as Rex was launched thirty feet into the air without even a second of hesitation.

It felt wrong. It was all wrong. Rex should never be alone like that. Cody was his big brother, he should always be there for him. He would die if he was alone, they always did.

He isn’t alone.

Cody wasn’t sure how the thought had come to be, but with a sudden clarity it all made sense. The goal was clear and as Rex landed before Palpatine's sneering face Cody whipped around to Obi-Wan.

“General, I need to be up there!” he yelled.

Obi-Wan blinked at him. Obviously the thought of his commander, and more importantly love of his life, running towards what looked like certain death was not what he wanted to hear right now; especially when he already had his little brother potentially dying behind him. He even got so far as to scrunch up his nose and start to argue before Ahsoka cut in.

“Master Obi-Wan!” she yelled, still holding her ground by the cliff and using it as an advantage to launch droids off the edge. “Focus on the force. It is their fight!”

Cody didn’t really know what they were saying and he wasn’t sure he cared as he watched Palpatine's red saber slowly grow. “Obi-Wan,” he nearly whispered. “Please.”

Obi-Wan took a breath, smoke burning his throat and tears from more than just the sting of ash in his eyes. He held out his lightsaber, his very life, for Cody to take. “You are coming back to me.”

It was a statement; and Cody took it and the lightsaber with more reverence than he could ever convey. He let the blade come to life, flooding him in light as he met Obi-Wan's gaze. “Always.”

Track: ‘This Is War’ - Thirty Seconds to Mars

Rex’s general, his friend and brother, was laying beaten and broken below him. Anakin had done everything he could, had done everything right, and in those last moments realized that he was still in the wrong. That if he was the one to kill Palpatine it would be in hate, and that the war would never end as a vindictive evil was born. Anakin would lose everything he was, become everything he hated. And it was with shaking hands he had lowered his saber from the Sith Lords neck.

The former chancellor barely hesitated a second. As soon as he realized Anakin had managed to hang on his light Palpatine had struck him down in a blaze of lightning; and Anakin now clung to a life he felt he didn’t deserve at Rex’s feet, amongst the ash and carnage of Mustafar.

The battle around them continued to rage as everyone, Jedi, friends, brothers, continued falling left and right. Rex could see Palpatine slowly recovering atop the factory, his cackling seeming to resonate over the entire battlefield. He had won. The chosen one had failed, and Palpatine could feel the hope, the light, draining from the galaxy.

Rex gasped and turned away, eyes meeting Ahsoka's. They were worn, older than they should ever be. The white of her montrals was a mess, and her face pale, but she fought on and Rex found it in himself to feel proud of who she had become despite everything. Even now he could see her thinking, trying to find a solution. Her eyes suddenly closed and after a breath she seemed to have found one.

In him.

“Rex,” she rasped, face suddenly lighting up. “Rex, this isn’t our fight. It’s yours.”

Rex stared at her, instinctively going to argue before something stopped him. The world around him seemed to become muted, and a tug, or a pressure, something in him was insisting she was right. It whispered assurance like the Jedi, laughed like his brothers, and gave him hope like his sister before him now, with her eyes as sure as beskar.

He felt himself hold out his hand, and her lightsaber was placed firmly in it. Then he was bending down and picking up Anakin's from where it was gathering ash beside him. And as Rex took a breath the whole world came flooding back, showing Ahsoka had run to the cliff edge.

“Ready?” she shouted.

Maybe it was nerves, but Rex couldn’t help the small laugh. “To be thrown? Never." He ignited the lightsabers. They hummed in unison in his hands as if they were singing a song he had heard before, from a brother he loved like a son. And Rex spared a small thought that perhaps Fives was still with him, fighting as hard as ever. “But to be free? More then.”

Royal Blood AU:

Where the Jedi don't really know anything about Anakin's step-family so Luke goes to Padme's family while Leia goes to the Organa's.

He is raised as Luke Naberrie, spending his first few years of life under the care of his grandparents ( You know - the people who raised Padme Like That).

Now, the Naboo, particularly the political elite of Naboo, are very good at the shell game of deception. When he is finally revealed, the family claims he is a year younger than the truth, and there is, around him, all the hushed silence of a well-supressed scandal. The nature of it is... nebulous.

Luke grows up in a small cloister of other fair eyed, blonde haired boys - Aunty Eirite's son, and his cousin, and the boy from a family that has long been loyal to House Naberrie.

He is, as a child, like any other boy of his House. Perhaps his instincts are a little better, perhaps he learns a little faster, perhaps he picks up skills more aptly.

Perhaps he is another genius, like his Aunt Padme. His family pours all their love and learning into him, and - and their loss, though perhaps they do not mean to.

He is a Nabberrie, after all, and he follows in the family profession and is elected a Prince of Theed at the age of 13 (14, really).

He chooses a political pseudonym from one of Naboo's more modern heroes.

He takes on the title Prince Skywalker.

At the age of 16, he goes on to be elected the Junior Senator of Naboo, now Senator Skywalker.

He butts heads with Princess Organa his first day in the Senate, and somehow they quickly become inseparable rivals.

Darth Vader has an indescribable grudge against this blonde child - children, since he has several decoys/ assistants. Leia Organa has impeccable timing for interrupting when Luke finds himself cornered for intimidation.

Darth Vader grows to find them both incessantly aggravating.

He can't quite bring himself to crush them. He's not certain why.

Bail Organa and Senator Nabberrie ( Luke's grandfather) have so many gray hairs. They are both, however, incredibly proud of their budding, unstoppable baby rebels.

( Yes Luke has R2D2 and Leia has C3PO, yes the droids regularly thwart Darth Vader too. Luke is an ace pilot just like his childhood hero, Leia is a sharpshooter just like both her mothers).

Secret Clones AU

Short version: Secret Clones AU is the clones going into hiding in plain sight across the galaxy to force a fair wage and also to keep the babies safe from Kaminoans

The clones figure out the plan to take advantage of them, brain chips, etc. several years before the war hits. IDK how, maybe Jango decided to take a closer look with Mij and went Oh Shit. Doesn't matter. Point is, they caught on and decided that they needed to uhhhhh get Out.

There are millions of clones, yes, but there are tens of thousands of planets.

Once the chips are out and someone's jabbed them with anti-aging serum... they're not that different from standard humans.

And it's not exactly hard to tie up the Kaminoans long enough to get off planet.

So what happens is that a while, let's say a year and a half, before the war kicks off, you have a mass exodus from Kamino, and a wide dispersal of clones. They are generally staying together in groups of about half a dozen, claiming to be brothers, so that there's a 16-18-ish looking clone to take lead, with progressively younger cadets to look after. Each one has a commander they can 'report' to in case of emergency, and if something goes real bad, they can call in an Alpha (and Alphas can call in Jango in a worst case scenario).

It's still sort of a military structure, but... it's a phone tree.

And you have one of these groups of half a dozen clones in every major city. There are thousands of planets, and most of those planets have more than one city. Denon and Coruscant are nothing but city, so they can get counted as dozens of cities on their own. It's easy to disappear in places like that.

It's so easy for the clones, before anyone knows them, to just... disappear. Go into hiding in plain sight.

It's not like more than a handful of people know what to look for.

(It's not like they have a centralized record of who went where.)

(It's just the phone tree.)

They still get real excited-happy-eager when they run into a Jedi.

They want to work with Jedi. They're the good guys! And they're cool!

But your army did a mass desertion before the war started and finding/recruiting all of them is going to take a stupid amount of money. You cannot hire a bounty hunter for each and every clone.

And as @bytebun put it:

Somebody two years later: you look …familiar. Have we met? Clone: haha I get that a lot just one of those faces

AND THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE THE GALAXY IS HECKING MASSIVE

I think the Republic has to like… negotiate with Jango and the Alphas and set up paid contracts if they want these Ultra Skilled Warriors to fight for them.

The clones can fight. Some of them even want to fight. They are good at this and they recognize that many of the things that are occurring under Separatist invasion are Mega Bad.

But like. Pay them and treat them as citizens, first.

The Jedi are even more confused about this identical army that really loves them than they are in canon Where the heck did you guys come from Who trained you Why do you like us What the heck is going on

"Someone wanted us to be a trap for you but we took the trap out. Here we have a sample if you want. Anyway. We like you guys and want to fight with you because honestly civilian life is way understimulating. Let me punch a droid."

I think a few of the clones do 'scouting' where they voluntarily help a Jedi in the field to gather information on their validity as Friends. Cody keeps a number of spreadsheets that are just Various Jedi Encounters.

Rex does a scouting mission with Kenobi&Skywalker and just goes to Cody like "Listen. I know he's insane. But. I want that one."

Rex just "I call dibs" "Cody. Cody did you hear me. Dibs, I call dibs."

@catboydogma: stats for pong krell are all zeroes

Absolute shit tier Jedi They play rock paper scissors to decide who has to deal with him

A solid half of the clones don't get recruited because the lack of advanced aging (past a certain point) means they're physically still minors and My Dad (Alphas and CCs) Said No. They stay behind on their various planets to look after The Real Babies.

"Let me ask my dad" "Wait--" "He said no."

Just want these boys to have Civilian Lives they can return to or at least experience before war gets them all fucked up.

I think some of them try to Make Connections with influential people (whether politicians or like... Space Influencers) so they have people vouching for them once the war kicks off. And there can be at least some public pushback on functionally enslaving them.

"I can't believe you manipulated people into liking you! That's so mean!" "Well you see. I wanted to survive past the age of eleven. So."

Part 3/7 - Previous / Next / First

Part 3/7 - Previous / Next / First

Ok, so. This one is…sort of a take on a trope I've seen a couple times.

the 212th + 501st, and associated jedi, are yeeted back in time though, y'know, standard Weird Force Fuckery, along with all their warships. Obi-wan, being obi-wan, is in a fucking bacta tank, and is thus mr not-avalible-for-decisions. Which leaves anakin in charge; and, given the weird force fuckery has clearly fried all their comms shit — they can't connect to anything outside of their little group, and pings to the GAR network get nothing — the only option to work out, uh, where the fuck are we and what the fuck is going on is to take a little scouting party down to the closest plant and scope out the situation.

The closest planet is melida/daan, mid civil war.

Anakin and the future scouting team clock this obviously stranded padawan, absolutely curbstomp their way through the adults, and then are like….ok, so, we're gonna. bring you back to the temple, kid, since you're obviously a stranded padawan and your master is dead, congratulations, we're adopting you into the lineage.

baby-wan is like ok.jpg because, well, this might as well happen? his life is already so fucking weird, and also, crucially, if he goes with them they might leave melidaan, and it's not like anyone can do jack shit to stop them. Not the first time he's offered up his life to save others, might be the last time, once they find out that he is, y'know, a terrible not-jedi. Or he gets sold into slavery, or killed for being force sentive. literally nothing about this is going to go well for him, actually.

Baby wan is brought aboard the ships. baby wan is abruptly wondering (hoping) that they're like, time travelers from the sith wars, because holy fuck this is an army that could sack half the galaxy. Baby wan is doing his level best to be chill and totally fine and not at all freaked the fuck out; given the entire group all know adult obi-wan, and his much better ability to hide emotions, everyone can tell that this kid is freaked.

To be fair; they're the 212th and the 501st. They're great, but also, if you run into them, shit's got real, and this kid looks, like, ten. It's got to be his first damn deployment. His master is clearly very fucking dead, and now he's thinking that the situation got so bad that they sent both the 212th and the 501st to clean it up.

meanwhile, the slicers on the ships have managed to cobble together a one way distress beacon, which they are beaming at the temple. It's old code — it piggybacks on shit from the last damn sith wars — but it's, y;know, something the GAR is equipped to recognise. The equivalent of sending up a damn smoke signal, or hooking into very old telegram wires and being like AM LOST STOP PLEASE SEND HELP STOP HOW GOES WAR STOP

The temple, of course, gets a transmission using a code from the sith wars. Asking about the state of the war. requesting back up and aid for a High General, plus his battalion and near command.

The temple freaks out, because holy fuck, time travelers???? literal time travelers from the sith wars?????? Fuck?????????????

After they send the ET phone home message, obi-wan the elder wakes up, gets an update on the situation — lost in space, found an orphaned padawan, distress beacon sent — and is all set to just chill till someone comes to pick them up when he clocks the 'orphaned padawan' and is like FUCK.

cue 'oh fuck oh fuck we fucked up the time line' and 'what the fuck do you mean spent time as a child solider', and also, 'well, guess we're all passing ourselves off as time travelers from the opposite direction, because, uh, that's…whatever everyone thinks. we are. thanks anakin.'

Plus the extremely fun times of baby-wan latching on to adult-wan as his new master, and proceeding to spill every terrible thing that's happened to him thus far to anyone who asks, because, y'know, it's fine! This is fine! his new lineage is so nice <3 and none of them have any reason to know the fact that he's already killed people and seen people killed and done so much violence is weird <3 it's great, he's finally going to get a good grade in being a jedi, which is possible to achieve and definitely something he wants <3

The Chancellor made a mistake

All it takes is a single mistake and generations of planning goes down the drain.  It’s actually kind of impressive when you think about the sheer amount of forethought that the death of the Jedi took.  Because all it takes is moving just a little too fast and a thousand years of hiding go out the window.

Sheev Palptine was a font of patience when working toward his aims, but, well he had been listening to rants about Obi Wan Kenobi being the ‘Perfect Jedi’ for years. That he was detached, alien to the wider galaxy in a way that few beings ever were. Those rants sparked an idea. A way to isolate the Jedi further from the galaxy by showing them the ‘Perfect Jedi’.

And yes, Obi Wan Kenobi is one of the best representatives of what it means to be a Jedi who currently lives. But it was not for the reasons that Anakin (encouraged by Palptine) thought. The mistake Palpatine truly made was forgetting that the ‘Perfect Jedi’ image that Anakin held was created by Palpatine himself.

There is an artifact in Palpatine’s collection (one of the few that he had both legally and visibly) that is the center of Palpatine’s plan. It is a thing of Sith magic (and could be considered a device of torture, not that any one outside of Palpatine realizes that at first) that projects key moments in the subjects life for everyone to see, to hear, and even to feel a reflection of what the subject feels (It could be considered torture becaus the subject is forced to relive these memories in their entirety, as if they were happening again. Also they have no control over what memories are being shown and once started this process cannot be stopped until it has found all of the key moments).  As it uses the Force the moments can be seen from a third person point of view.  Palpatine had even found a way to connect the artifact to a broadcasting system, meaning that the entire galaxy can see and hear and feel what it is to be the ‘Perfect Jedi’.

At first the plan goes exactly as it was supposed to. In the guise of ‘fostering relations to disprove the horrible rumor of Jedi warmongering’ Palpatine maneuvers the Senate and the Jedi Order into Obi Wan Kenobi being the subject of this artifact and putting himself on display for all the galaxy to see. Anakin is visibly excited about this. Obi Wan is put in a Pod hovering in the center of the Rotunda, visible to all. Many Clone Commanders (and, though Palpatine had no way of knowing, Ghost Company) ring the top of the Rotunda, looking down at the General. Mace Windu and Yoda are in the Jedi Pod, looking weary (they know what a violation this is, even if no one else seemed to. The Clones, particularly those assigned to the 212th understood as well).

The one concession that Obi Wan had managed to get is that neither he, nor those he was working with, could be prosecuted for anything that might appear in the memories (using the logic that he did not want to be prosecuted for giving away military secrets if that is something that is shown to the entire galaxy).

The plan went wrong from the first memory (and it could not be stopped, even if Obi Wan was killed and the artifact destroyed, the Force itself would continue projecting until the memories had run their course).

The very first memory comes with the echo of fear and pain and the sensation of being unable to breath.  The galaxy watches a tiny redheaded toddler being held under a river by a woman that could be his mother.  A jedi of Togruta descent comes upon them and pushes the woman away and gently lifts the toddler. The reflection of a warmth easing the feeling of drowning echoes and comforts, the fear also easing. The woman then shrieks that the boy is cursed; is Obi Wan Kenobi. As she runs off the Togruta looks down at the toddler, smiles sadly and says “Not to worry, little Obi Wan, where we’re going, having the Force is no curse.”

A ripple of horror spreads throughout the galaxy. The darkness that the Sith had worked so hard to cultivate begins to thin, as beings of all kinds absolutely fall in love with the red headed toddler whose earliest memory is being rescued by the Jedi.  It thins further though moments in Obi Wan’s childhood. Instead of seeing indoctrination or baby stealing the galaxy sees sentients doing their best for the children under their care. Yes there is bullying, the misunderstandings and teasing of any group of children and too few caretakers. But there is also Grandmaster Yoda playing prank after prank on and with the younglings.  There is sleeping in a pile of crechemates, feeling safe (even in the presence of a bully). There are ‘adventures’ of sneaking into the kitchen with friends. Daycare workers, Nannies, and caretakers the Galaxy over have never felt closer to the Jedi than experiencing Obi Wan’s memories of the Creche.

The galaxy sees the teachings of the Jedi from the eyes of their children, and it is easier to understand there is so much emphasis on self control when a tantrum causes every toy in the room to shoot up to hit the ceiling then rain down on children. They see the mistakes, because there are always mistakes and things that could have been done better when raising children. They see Obi Wan’s visions and nightmares, and how they are handled. They see the places where rigid tradition is to the detriment of the Order but they also see the soft moments. The moments of comfort. They see Yoda calming Obi Wan after a nightmare and how the words “Always in motion, the future is” is not just an admonishment but also a comfort.

And they see the mystical powers of the Jedi being taught. That it is not just some magically granted power, but something that is taught and studied and worked for. They see behind the magic, what’s more for the first time the majority of the galaxy feels the Force the way the Jedi do (an odd consequence of the artifact being tied to the broadcaster like it was, is that most of the galaxy never really lost that sense after, even if they were not Force Sensitive enough to use the Force) for the first time.

And Sheev Palpatine is undeniably evil, there is no question about that. He is, in fact, proud of that. But even he feels…something when he watched a grown man tell a twelve year old Obi Wan that he is destined to fall (that memory alone swelled the darkness again).  Through the memories, and armed with hindsight, the galaxy can hear the Force whisper to Obi Wan, telling him he is destined to be a knight. Compassion lights up the galaxy, shaded with horror, when the bomb collar locks home.  And for many of the comfortable in the galaxy, even among those that consider themselves ‘good’ this is the closest they have come to experiencing slavery, the fear, the cruelty, the hollow ache. They hear and feel the secrets that slaves keep and vow to take action (it is a vow that turns to words again for many, but on dozen worlds it sparks into a bonfire that roots out slavery where it finds it).

When Cody hears Qui Gon Jinn tell Obi wan that the reason he is taking him as a padawan is because he was willing to die, he scoffs softly and murmurs “so that is where that comes from”. (Gree asks him why he is not surprised by any of this, since Skywalker visibly is. Cody looks at Gree and says that the General had already told these stories, all they had to do was ask).

It is with the memory of Obi Wan leaving the Order for the Young that it first occurs to Anakin that this was a violation. They should not be watching Obi Wan’s most intimate memories. This is not how Anakin should be learning about his former Master.   The horror grows as he feels with every moment of the war that is shown. Then Cerasi dies. Three quarters of the galaxy sob outright for this young girl, who in her last moments spoke of Peace.  It is nigh on impossible not to feel for these tired child soldiers and the Jedi Padawan that fought with them, they find the peace that they fought for but it took so much. Too much.

Then Obi Wan returns to the Temple. These are sentient beings, with hopes and dreams and flaws, the galaxy is reminded again and again. Nearly every memory has something that someone in the galaxy can relate to. The successes and failures that they can see through Obi Wan’s eyes.

When the child version of the Hero with No Fear is brought before the council the entire Galaxy feels the ache of never being enough, for always feeling like the second, the third, the last choice. Not even a thought during Qui Gon’s last moments. The grief of losing a parent is all too common, the stress of having to suddenly raise a younger sibling, of subsuming your own grief to be there for someone else and feeling alone in the world are not much less. And every parent in the galaxy knew the feeling of the teen years, where it seemed like everything Obi Wan did was a mistake or a misstep (Anakin remembered those years differently, shaded in a defensiveness that he was not sure the origin of now). Most of all everyone could feel the love that suffused Obi Wan every memory of Anakin,  this boy who should have been his brother but instead was his son.

The attempted assassination of Senator Amidala drew Obi Wan to Kamino. For the first time the galaxy and, almost more importantly, the Senate saw the Clones through the eyes of the Jedi. Instead of rows of identical, interchangeable faces, it was constellations of stars in miniature. Each unique. Each beautiful.  It was profound. It was striking.

Reflected horror only grew with each memory of battle. With each memory of grieving with Clones, they became more real.  Even the Kaminoan Senator was discomforted, could not quite maintain the line that the clones were flesh droids.

There were memories of Obi Wan meeting with other Jedi, with Commander Cody, with Commander Fox, within his own Battalion trying desperately to protect the Clones and the Jedi. It hurt a number of the Senators and representatives to realize that they were the ones Obi Wan was protecting them from. An ache that served to Lighten the Force even further grew when Obi Wan and Cody acknowledged their desire to be together, but put that desire to the side so the could always be ‘above reproach’ to be able to protect other relationships (Padme/anakin, Aayla/ Bly, a number of others that involved either Jedi or Clones). An ache that grew when they watched from Obi Wan’s eyes as Fox and Quinlan Vos did the same.  When several Lieutenants came forward with a plan to reduce Bacta (and other resources) use enough that they could send the excess to the Coruscant Guard, since they are never given enough.  Countless discussion of where to move Clones to, either for their own protection or to protect others. The updating lists about which Senators the Clones must never be alone around.

There is a flurry of notes taken when Obi Wan explains to Ghost company that relationships with Jedi are not forbidden by the Council, but formalized relationships (marriage, parent/child, any relationship that have a legal basis) were made illegal by a treaty with Naboo some three hundred years before. This treaty does allow for exceptions to be approved with restrictions (Ki Adi Mundi’s exception is cultural, he is only allowed to have contact with his wives when trying to get them pregnant and is not allowed contact with his children. If he has a boy he will be required to dissolve that marriage and if the ratio of male/female stabilizes he will be required to dissolve all of his marriages).  The consequences for breaking this treaty are severe, particularly for the non Jedi party.  These consequences include imprisonment for approximately 1/10 of the beings potential life span, with any children born of the union to be surrendered to be studied (The law does not say that they will be studied expressly, but it is certainly implied). This was explained as part of a lesson on how to subtly discourage gossip about a topic (primarily Padem and Anakin’s marriage). When asked he also explains that there are two reasons that he would ask them to do that. One reason is personal, Anakin loves Padme and it would hurt him if something happened to her. The Second reason has to do with what happens with Politics and Scandal.  That once it becomes known that they had married, Padme would effectively become poison to anything her name was on. And Padme had long been a champion of the underdog. Her name was on a lot of less than popular measures, including everything to do with Clone rights (He had tried to bring this up with both Padme and Anakin, they didn’t listen). He explained how important image was in this case, that was why he tried to make sure his troops were both visible and seen doing positive things. He was hoping that by the time the marriage became common knowledge they had enough goodwill to survive the fallout. (In the audience three of Padme’s advisers along with Padme herself start hyperventilating slightly when they do indeed find that little known treaty. Up with the Clones, Commander Thorn went ‘huh. I wondered why the 212th rarely got arrested on shore leave anymore’)  When asked why the Jedi of that time let that treaty be signed, Obi Wan sighed and told them that he Jedi were not consulted.

The very last memory shown is Obi Wan, being told that he would need to be hooked up to a Sith Artifact and expose all of his best and worst memories for the Galaxies entertainment.  His quiet dread looking at the pod that they were currently seeing him in.

For a moment the Light overtook the Force. Every being in the galaxy was bathed in the Light of Force. They saw themselves, both their flaws and their beauty as it truly was.

The Artifact shuts off and before anyone else can do anything, Ghost company descends on Jetpacks. They landed the Pod and bundled their General out of the Rotunda.

In the aftermath there were many that weren’t affected by what the Galaxy had seen, there always would be, but there just as many that did. In spite of the assholes, most people thought themselves as good, wanted to give more than they took, wanted to be happy and have those around them be happy.

A young scientist on Kamino looked into a mess hall crowded with Clone cadets. The day before they would have seen one cadet indistinguishable from another, mechanical instead of organic. Today all they could see were shining stars, individual and unique.  In that instant they made a choice that would change the galaxy. They approached Shaak Ti and Commander Colt asking to speak privately. They explained that each clone was decanted with an inactive inhibitor chip (knowledge of which had been explicitly barred from being given to the Jedi) and that on these chips there was a set of orders hardcoded, they did not know what the orders were, that would take precedence over even the clone own free will. They handed over a flimsi with a frequency on it. This frequency would shut off the chips once they were activated, but would not do anything to them until that point. They could not be removed without alerting whoever included the orders and the chip in the contract.

Colt asked the scientist why now. The Kaminoan was quiet for a moment then said ‘yesterday you were interchangeable. Today you are not.’ and leaves.

On Coruscant a senatorial aide moves toward her next meeting. A few of her colleagues were further down the hall talking and complaining about the clones, the cost of creating more, calling them things and equipment, and jokes about their deficiencies. Not five feet away is a member of the Coruscant Guard, standing guard.  She considers herself a good person, a kind person but it strikes her how many times she has seen this exact scene play out. It strikes her how many times she has ignored the beings protecting her, and how she was considered among the kindest beings in the senate for it. Looking at the red painted guard all she can see is Obi Wan Kenobi's memories of meetings with Commander Fox, lists of people they needed to protect the Clones from, a tiny list of people outside the Jedi and the Clones they can trust.  Abruptly she decided that her meeting could wait as she squared her shoulders to confront the talkers, she knew what list she wanted to be on and it was time to prove it.

It took a thousand years of planning to carefully darken the Force to the point where the Sith could hide on Coruscant itself. A thousand years to cloud the Force, all to be ready to destroy the Jedi.  It took a thousand year and all it took was one day, not even a day. It took the six hours that Obi Wan was in the clutches of the Artifact to destroy all of that planning.

Palpatine didn’t even realize what it meant, at first, when the entire Galaxy seemed to get six shades lighter. Then, two tenday after, a new bill was introduced contending that the Clones met all the requirements to be considered a previously unknown near human variation.

It should have failed. He owned 75% of the senate outright. It should have failed.

It passed. It passed overwhelmingly because too many of the voting morons thought they were giving a pittance they could then ignore. Not that being declared a near human variation automatically granted the rights he had spent so long denying the clones.

Then some sour apple tried to prosecute Amidala for marrying a Jedi (Palpatine was holding that in reserve, to get ahold of any children), Commanders Cody and Fox for the very obvious collusion to assist in the desertion of GAR Clones, prior to their rights being granted, and Jedi’s Vos, Windu, Koon, and Kenobi for the same reason. Which was now impossible because a blanket pardon was issued for any crimes that came to light as a result of Kenobi’s memories.

Petitions were already streaming in to have the treaty that makes Jedi marriage illegal broken and they seemed to be going to people that would actually do it (A spontaneous group formed, nearly 40,00 people strong across six system composed of both Republic and Seperatist citizens, whose sole goal is to get Codywan together and married).

At first Palpatine tries to wait it out, tries to keep with the plan because he is not one to act impulsively. Six tenday later, he realized differently. The Galaxy continued to lighten, kindness springing up. Slavery was in a downward spiral as more people stood up, spoke up, and tried to make things better. His empire was slipping from his grasp.

He executed Order 66.  For a moment the light of clones dimmed and their minds compressed. Then the Clones who had taken his call jolted as if stung. There was a sharp crack and the remaining darkness fell apart. And Palpatine learned a lesson that few Sith lived long enough to, too long standing in the dark make the light fatal.

No powers supercorp AU where Kara is a war correspondent for CatCo Media and Lena is her photographer. Some background: Lena was adopted by the Luthors as a young teen, not a four year old, and she absolutely hated it, so as soon as she turned 18 she struck out on her own to make her own way without any support from her father's family.

She changes her name to Kieran Walsh and pays her way through college and ends up quickly making her way through the world of photojournalism. She actually wins a Pulitzer before even meeting Kara.

They meet on the edge of a war zone, in a hotel that hosts most of the journalist contingent assigned to the conflict. Kara is disenchanted with the world and is pretty caustic when they meet, begrudgingly agreeing to partner up to meet mutual goals with this photographer she doesn't recognize and therefore assumes is a newbie.

She doesn't even learn Lena's-- Kieran's-- name until they get back to the hotel after, and another journalist greets Kieran by name. Kara quickly puts the pieces together and shoots Kieran a look between anger and awe.

"Why didn't you tell me?" she demands.

Kieran smirks. "So I could see that look you have your face."

Kara slowly smirks back. She likes this woman, and she knows then they've just sparked the start of a beautiful friendship.

They continue to work with each other, soon being partnered on every assignment. They maybe have some casual, no-strings-attached sex occasionally when they need to blow off steam, but they still classify themselves as friends only.

After years of working together, however, they run afoul of a brutal regime and are captured by paramilitary forces. They're questioned (tortured), but they have no information to keep secret. They're simply journalists investigating the conflict to shine a light on the civilian toll.

Their captors eventually accept that they're not spies/saboteurs, but decide to make an example of them anyway with a televised execution. Before they do, however, they plunk Kieran and Kara in front of a live video feed to share their identities, their capture, and their sentence.

Kara stoically delivers the script they've been ordered to follow, but when it comes to Kieran, she gives the camera a deep, intense look.

"My name is Kieran Walsh, a photojournalist for Catco Media." She pauses then, then commits to her decision.

"I am also Lena Luthor, the only daughter of Lionel Luthor. These men have arrested us under false pretense, and we call upon--"

The lead captor cuts the feed and immediately cracks Lena across the face with the butt of his rifle. The blow dazed her with a broken nose, but Lena quickly recovers and shoots the man a bloody grin.

She chuckles.

"You guys are so fucked."

i love that in the “so uncivilized” story level in lego sw skywalker saga (aka the one where you get to be obi-wan and cody), at the start grevious calls obi-wan “jedi scum,” and cody says “i think he’s talking to you.” then at the end, grevious says “pathetic clone” and obi-wan says “he means you cody.”

like they’re mid battle against grevious and still teasing each other (flirting), it’s amazing

Craziest hcs for commander cody or hcs no one would expect for him please & much thankyouness🧡

Craziest headcanons for Commander Cody (or hcs no one would ever expect) lmaoooo I don’t know if these are crazy but they’re what I got

Commander Cody is absolutely the funniest Commander there is

Going from that, it’s because he’s unhinged. Everyone would expect it to be Wolffe with his teeth, Bly with his lovesick tendencies or even Fox with his deadpan humor, but Between having to deal with Obi-Wan “I’m going to flirt with every enemy I have and lose my lightsaber” Kenobi and Anakin “violence mwahahahha” Skywalker, Cody had to compensate

Alongside that, he was Obi-Wan’s Commander when Anakin was still a Padawan so at that point, it was either babysit Anakin or be just as unhinged to pull him back

Anakin still can never get anything past Cody

His raised eyebrow has Anakin spilling secrets faster than anything Obi-Wan ever could have done

Cody hates tea. He hates it with a passion and it’s only because he’s friends with Obi-Wan that he doesn’t automatically spit it out

That being said, since Anakin also hates tea, whenever Cody thinks Anakin needs a punishment, he’ll just give him tea and raise an eyebrow

He still does it even when Anakin is a General

Cody started kicking droids when he had to save Obi-Wan from an attack and he had no blasters and a broken hand

It was worth it

Anakin jokes that he was part droid since it never seemed to hurt him and he replied back with “I mean you could with your robotic arm”

Obi-Wan had to discourage Anakin from punching droids

Cody eggs him on when Obi-Wan isn’t looking

Cody knew about Padme and Anakin’s secret marriage within the first week he met Anakin

He let Anakin know with a “I hope you treat her well” when Anakin finished his knighting trials

Cody made sure that Rex was put Captain of the 501st because he knew Anakin would watch his back

Also he wanted to see how long it would take for Rex to break out of the fold of not being good enough because of his blonde hair

Cody once put itching powder in Wolffe’s blacks when he got back from the Malevolence incident to distract him and get him out of his room

It worked

Cody had a black eye for two weeks

Wolffe thanked him later in the war for it because he didn’t know if he would have continued on or tried to March on with his Pack

Ponds tried to explain to Mace Cody’s humor only for the man to say “I see”

Cody made sure to never joke around Mace so that Ponds would seem crazy by his General

He ended up breaking that silent dare when Boba tried to attack Mace

He scooped up the cadet (Boba’s not a cadet but he’s the size of one so Cody doesn’t think it matters all that much) and said “sorry cadet but we have a height restriction. No one shorter than 4 feet is allowed near a Jedi”

Boba hisses like a cat at him and tries to scratch him

“I’m older than you!”

“I’m taller than you.”

He ended up bringing Boba on the ship to avoid the Chancellor from putting him on trial

Boba didn’t appreciate it until Cody gave him a gun and took him on a “specs” mission

It wasn’t a real mission but Cody wasn’t gonna tell Boba that

“Shoot those droids and well leave when you’re not angry anymore”

They didn’t leave till 6 hours later

Boba tried to run away 12 times during his stay with Cody and Cody caught him all 12 times

The 13 time, Cody just gave him a blaster and said the 212th will be there for him if he needs it

Boba didn’t leave despite the opening

He now hangs in the vents and protects the ship when they’re on the ground

Cody owns a handmade slingshot

He uses it to pelt Rex and other clones when he’s bored or annoyed at them

He used it once on Fox and Fox got him back with his own slingshot

He once stole one boot from each of his batchmates at the beginning of the war after they got their paint on it

He wears them when he feels nostalgic

He stole one of Rex’ when he become Captain of 501st

He used to jump out of ships when Anakin was a Padawan to help teach him to catch him before he would splat on the ground

This is why Anakin does it to Rex because he thought since Rex is close to Cody, he wouldn’t mind

Rex does mind

A lot

He never figured out that Cody was the one to ingrain this habit in Anakin

Cody would still jump out of ships if the 212th and the 501st work together

Cody can do a handstand and can even balance on one hand

He believes this to be his greatest achievement

Cody likes to window shop

It’s inconvenient to do when they are at war but if there’s a shop nearby where the 212th is stationed, he’ll get souvenirs for his batchmates

Cody does not get paid yet he still somehow has credits

This is because he made a deal with Hondo to give him credits and he’ll tell him where the best rum is

This is why Hondo kidnaps Obi-Wan a lot

When Cody heard about Obi-Wan “dying”, he didn’t believe it and just told Rex to tell him when Obi-Wan is back - after all, it was his shore leave

The first time Cody met the Bad Batch was on Kamino and it was on complete accident

He ran into them with Nala Se and from their face, he could only assume that she was about to decom them

He stepped in

She let him train them for two weeks to improve their scores and during that time, he got them to work as a team but most importantly, to realize that they are vod as well and vod stick together

He gave them Fox’ and his own personal comm number in case they ever needed anything

He also makes sure to include them in his souvenir gift list

(He’s also the reason Crosshair is a Swiftie skjskjskj - I’m sorry I had to add that in)

He considers Echo and Fives his little cousins due to Rex adopting them and spoils them whenever he sees them

Meaning he tells them all the best prank ideas and covers for them and gives them any item they ask for when they meet

He is the reason they got away with dying Rex’ hair blue

As well as Anakin’s

And Obi-Wan’s

But he’s too smart for them and switched their bottles with his and they ended up accidentally dying their own hair when they targeted him

Cody will barge into Fox’ office randomly when he’s on shore leave and forcibly get Fox to rest

He’ll bribe the other Commanders with alcohol when he comes

Thorn is an expensive Vod though and demands more than alcohol

He is the reason Cody had to start a little black market within the GAR

All that just to spend time with Fox

It’s worth it every time

Cody once tried to matchmake Bly and Aayla at the start of the war because he couldn’t stand their lovesick looks

Turns out they have been dating since Bly got assigned to her and they just are lovesick with each other

Cody almost lost his lunch when he realized

Cody likes to check up on his batchmates when he can

And his batchmates’ Generals

And his batchmates’ General’s Padawan

This is how he was able to talk to Barriss before she did anything risky

He got Gree involved and they got her reassigned after being made a knight to a post where she can help clone medics with civilians and Vod

It wasn’t much but it was enough for her to feel like she is doing something right

He tries to check up on her when he can though Gree is the one she mainly talks to

Cody once convinced his batchmates to eat a bug after Anakin kept doing it as a Padawan

Cody also once drugged Obi-Wan when he stayed up a consistent 78 hours on a campaign

Cody has a count of how many times Obi-Wan has lost his lightsaber and his robes and has flirted with the enemy

Cody once punched Quinlan Vos in the stomach because the Jedi snuck up on him

Obi-Wan laughed

Quinlan got him back when he accidentally dropped one of Cody’s bottles of rum for Hondo

They had a prank war for a solid 7 months before Fox shut it down because he got caught in one of Cody’s brilliant ideas

On the bright side, it revealed Palpatine as a Sith

On the down side, he ended up losing control to the chip and being knocked into a coma for 4 months to finally gain back control

Yea that’s all I have ( @here-comes-the-moose if you don’t mind, i borrowed your HC of Crosshair being a Swiftie and mentioned it here)

Feel free to add your own if you want
