day 39
i played more r1999, vertin is just es but as a british girl.
Theory on R1999 so spoilers for 2.2, spoilers for 1.9 and onwards. This is not Global Friendly especially for 1.9 and 2.2.
This will only make sense if you have gone through the first three patches of 2.0.
This will be major major spoilers for 2.2 for the implications this has so anyone following CN servers feel free to message me about this.
(May Vertin nui block the spoilers!)
Alright then.
The Mandela Effect is the type of memory that occurs when different people incorrectly remember the same thing, eg if the Monoploy man wore a monocle at all, logos having a different design in comparison to how some people remember it.
2.2 introduce us to Mr Duncan, a Zeno military veteran who lives in Sao Paulo. Both Sotheby AND Vertin both mistaken Mr Duncan for Mr Karson, and remember either of them had a chance to take a photo of Mr Karson or anyone else in 1929 before the Storm occurred. Duncan mentions having a war friend of his who had a child near Sotheby's age. This seems to concidental to be a throwaway line. Appearance wise their eyes look the same but I hear you ask, but Mr Karson looks older in 1929 and its confirmed 2.2 occurs in 1990s how can they be the same person?
See Paulina from 2.0: she is the one mentioned in Book 4 by the narrator, someone who was caught by the Storm and only her hand remained. We meet her brother Joe in 2.0 who goes to confirm her "death", sees her leftover hand (wow not expecting that) and then looks at her photo and immediately thinks the Foundation was lying. In some sense their are two Paulinas here, the one Joe remembers and the one the Foundation remembers but more or less are the same person.
Vertin with Mr Duncan has outright confirmed that:
One Mr Duncan is in fact Mr Karson, that there are multiple instances where people or events have been altered from recorded history.
Two.
THE PEOPLE WHO ARE REVERSED DO NOT DIE IN THE STORM!
With Marcus and Heinrich we confirm the Storms do not just make time go backwards but instead reverse a certain era to a different period, just not beyond 1999. Therefore we can for example, be in the 1950s and be reversed to 1980s but never going past 1999.
We confirm that the Grandfather Paradox does not apply to this world, so killing someone in one time will not necessarily led to the death of their family line.
The Storm can be accelerated by causing or accelerating critical points in history, leading to them happening earlier than expected = changing the original timeline.
So what if the Storm reversing places to completely different era backwards and forwards actually does the same to people?
Take Mr Karson: the 1929 Storm could have flung 'him' into the 1990s, his core history of being a war veteran would not change but now he isnt looking after Sotheby instead lives in Sao Paulo. Being flung into the 1990s has caused a butterfly effect in a sense to his own history: what if he remained in Sao Paulo at the end of his war service for example?
R1999 is playing with the Mandela Effect here: the Foundation will remember recorded history prior to the first Storm, and now history is being slightly altered by the Storm. The changes would eventually become so often and with so many to record the true original history may be forgotten entirely. It will become harder to tell what was the original until that new altered history becomes the memory incorrectly remembered by others.
So all victims of the Storm are not dead then are flung to different eras and places, slightly altered but in essence that original person. However it would be hard to investigate what would happen if a person were to be caught in multiple Storms, reverse in one and again in another (maybe thats what is happening to Martha Urd Bessmert)
Someone like Schneider then would still be alive somewhere, maybe in Italy, maybe a little bit different but in essence the same one we met in 1929 but doesn't know us. Same goes for Isabella, the Ring, people of Aperion and etc etc. Maybe we met 888 before she ever found the island, see the Ring potentially at the age he would be now in Scotland since he is implied to be Scottish.
This opens up the table for any of the people Vertin had met in the past to met them again.
Playable Schnieder or at the very least her return is no longer off the table and very possible now, this doesn't take away the impact of her 'death' as likely she will have no recollection of the time spent with Vertin and co, they did just meet within 24 hours. (BP would be so cruel if we met her in an Orange farm in Italy).
(I need a second opinion on us tbh, 2.2 at the end was really dropping huge things to set up the 2.0 story wow)
This previous post I made helps flesh out their dynamics but I want to talk about how the two could fall in love with each other. It might help put the rest of this post in perspective.
Perhaps Schneider didn't fall in love with Vertin per say, but she saw what they could be. What if she saw enough to say that one day she'd fall in love with this person if she had the chance. Vertin didn't have a long time with Schneider, but in their short time she displayed everything Schneider wished for. It's about impact rather than time, especially since they met in extraordinary circumstances.
So going off of that, if Schneider feels that one day Vertin will be someone special to her due to her character...
Why can't they start right now? Does love have to be done in a specific order for it to be real? Schneider herself is a rather unconventional person so, perhaps this line of thought isn't weird for her.
One day'll fall she'll fall in love with Vertin, so what's wrong with indulging in their relationship now? Whether it's after the first date or 10 dates, if they end up together then why not love each other from now?
That is to say, she doesn't love Vertin; she loves the Vertin she'll inevitably fall in love with the down the line.
Time is short. She has shit to do. They can figure out the middle part along the way but she's looking at the end-game.
She loves the future they could have had together.
Unfortunately she also knows they don't have time to build that future.
As for Vertin, she isn't in love with Schneider either but she feels she could be. Vertin doesn’t know this is the last time she'll see Schneider and thinks in a more conventional sense where they'll get closer day by day. However, Vertin can't have anything "normal" so she's robbed of that possibility. She tries not to think about what ifs since she can't change anything, meaning she ruminates on the past and reality of the situation.
Vertin's fixated on the loss she suffered in the past.
Schneider focused on future she knows they can't have.
But, perhaps in a convoluted way, they started falling in love the moment they actually looked at each other in the hours before the Storm. When their visions aligned in the present.
Vertin and Udimos cuz yes.
Also don't ask why Schneider is a carbuncle (I didn't want to draw a freaking cricket lol).
Honestly looking at some of the richer character's belongings I think about how rich Vertin must be.
It takes around 180 Clear Drops to have one pull. I heard some players having 100 pulls or the regulars having around 30-40 pulls. This means Vertin at some points can have 6 of Isolde's designer jewels or multiple copies of designer shoes.
The evaluation of their prices are based on Pandora Wilson's biases since Pavia's jewelry has gotten a negative value status (which I find improbable in real life objects).
The valuation of the objects are a little bit more unreliable because the characteristics of money is that it is:
Uniform (5 pesos is 5 pesos, 1 dollar is 1 dollar regardless of person)
Value (it is seen as a transfer of value) (This replaced barter since barter requires the "coincidence of wants" which means Person A wants what Person B has and vice versa. This doesn't always happen, thus the need of a universal transfer of value: currency)
Portability (can carried around)
Durability (not perishable)
So what currencies do we have in Reverse 1999? Well it seems that we have: Clear Drops and Sharpodonties.
Dust is not a currency since it is a transfer of energy NOT a transfer of value. So it is more like a power up snack. It seems to be a gatherable resource from arcane energy.
(Does it have anything to do with Apeiron?)
Anyways, back to the two currencies, it is clear that Clear Drops are considered more valuable than Sharpodonties. It might have something to do with the storm since it's shape seems to be going up. At the same time, it appears to be like crystal...so like gold currency perhaps?
Sharpodonties, in the other hand, are the more commonly mentioned, used, and exchanged currency.
It seems to be a universal and exclusive arcanist currency that is used by arcanists around the world.
For example, Zima (Russian) and Kanjira (Indian) both use Sharpodonties.
It seems like it wasn't always this appearance since Sharpodonties underwent currency evolution like other currencies do. In Melania's event, she was in charge of protecting the Mainedonty.
The Donty currency family have a collective characteristic to bite and to sense arcane blood. The Sharpodonty then becomes a perfect currency for exclusive use by Arcanists. It is portable, valued, durable, and assumes a uniform form. Surprisingly enough, it is also...edible.
If we look into some stories, you would see that Sharpodonties are listed amongst ledgers.
In Medpoc's 2nd story, it is basically a ledger of their expenses:
Pioneer, who is a businessman, also seems to use US Dollars and Sharpodonties at the same time for transactions.
Now the question is: What is the exchange rate between a US Dollar and a Sharpodonty?
It is not always clear because we have to account for inflation, supply and demand, and other factors. But I have a clue.
Looking back at Medicine Pocket's ledgers, they listed different items that they purchased with Sharpodonties. Let us use DOG TOYS as an example using this example from real life:
Given:
$ 3.30 per 1 teething dog toy (real life)
o 40 per 15 dog toys (Medpoc)
Question: What is the exchange rate between US Dollars and Sharpodonties?
Let's determine the price of the dog toy in the 1990s.
We can reasonably assume that the exchange rate between Arcanist currency and dollars will change depending on the state of US currency. Using equivalent exchange, I determined that the price of a teething dog toy is $1.36 dollars per dog toy in the 1990s.
2. Find the rate of Sharpodonties per dog toy.
This will help both currencies have a comparable object to compare prices to. Let us summarize Sharpodonties into an abbreviation called ACS (Arcanist Sharpodonty) using the same naming convention used in real life currencies. 1 dog toy is equivalent to 2.67 ACS or 1.36 USD.
3. Find exchange rate.
Using equivalent exchange again, we can determine that the exhange rate between ACS and USD is:
1 ACS = 0.51 USD in the 1990s(forgive my error, the exchange rate from 1 USD to ACS is 1 USD = 1.96 ACS NOT the other way around)
If we are to consider that Arcanist currency hasn't deflated in value but USD has, then the current exchange rate as of 2024 will be:
1 ACS = 1.23 USD or 1 USD = 0.81 ACS (0.80909091) which means that ACS has become a more valuable currency.
I converted the ACS to other modern day currencies of Russia and Great Britain.
That means that Zima's quill costs around 758.85 Russian Rubles today and Kanjira's headband costs around 73.17 Indian Rupees.
Digger's Bubble Glasses will then be around 65.05 British Pounds. Feel free to use this chart for converting the price of items that the characters have.
I didn't account for Clear Drops since 1) it is not an often used currency, 2) I have not seen a general (not handcrafted or unique item) item that I can compare to a real life item.
What does this mean when it comes to Vertin's income? She earns 9000 ACS everytime she goes to Mintage Aesthetics. This means she earns around 11,070 Dollars for each trip. She also has passive income. If she uses all her energy (let's say 7 times a day to account for 190 stamina) each day, she earns around $77,490 each day or around $2,324,700 a month. Of course, we are not accounting the passive income that she can earn from the Wilderness or from rewards or gifts.
In conclusion, Vertin and her gang are easily rolling in dough!
Forgot to add her freckles in. It's probably not noticeable, but hey.
imagine the timekeeper and her crew being stuck in the poolrooms liminal space for a couple of days instead of, like, the typical beach episode
I don't know much about liminal spaces, so I looked it up.
Liminal spaces can be physical locations, such as airports, train stations, elevators, stairwells, roads, corridors, or hotels. They can also be emotional, such as a divorce, or psychological, such as puberty or menopause. Liminal spaces can also be metaphorical, such as a decision. Liminal spaces are meant to be temporary and can involve both positive and negative effects. They can evoke feelings of eeriness or discomfort because they are not meant for staying, but rather for passing through. Liminal space imagery often depicts transitional places that are unsettlingly devoid of people, and the aesthetic may convey moods of eeriness, surrealness, nostalgia, or sadness.
Since these influence emotions, arcanists might have stronger reaction to being placed in a liminal space. I think Vertin would hate it since it evokes feelings she doesn't like addressing, but she'll carry on as always. The tunnels under the Foundation and the Labyrinth under the Walden would also be considered liminal spaces and being trapped in another liminal space might get under her skin since she's lost people in both instances. On another note, a place devoid of people with only echoes of the past would upset her since that's what her fate is as Timekeeper. She gets left behind while everyone is taken by the Storm.
I think liminal spaces would trigger Sonetto's separation anxiety so bad. The Timekeeper will be in her sights at all times.
The horror crew would love it though! They'll want to shoot a whole damn movie. Jessica will be a water monster for the film. The water lovers likes Vila and La Source won't be particularity bothered either since water is a net positive for them.
Yenisei's ability will be crucial here and she will be the one who gets them out of the space.
The crew investigating an abandoned mall would also be pretty neat.
This is what I've been up to when I was gone.
Does anyone know what will happen to my progress if I delete r1999? I've been trying to update the game, I even had to delete my apps but it keeps saying I need to clear my space. Because of that I'll be uninstalling it then reinstalling. Okay now we got that out if they way; Will I be able to keep my account data? I read somewhere that their acc got reset to the beginning of the game because they might've used a their FB acc instead of their email or Google acc, so I'm kind of worried I'll lose all my progress, characters, etc.
If there's an alternative solution that's free, please share.
couldn’t finish this in time so now i leave this unfinished (which explains the blank parts). i’ll come back tomorrow and finish this
anyways happy 1st year of existence reverse: 1999!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This idea came to me in a vision apologies if somebody else did this already
