when I drew this comic 3 years ago I had NO idea how far it would reach. I'm happy to finally share a corrected version with proper abbreviations, and even MORE state names of indigenous origin ♥️

however, the goal of this comic was to inspire people to do your OWN research on indigenous history. To question everything we have been taught, and everything that has been pointedly left out. This erasure, this “forgetting”, of history is not just of the past… it is happening now. - Across so-called Canada, the US, and US-occupied islands, native women are victims of murder at 10-12x the rate of non-native people, and are the most likely to go missing without being searched for by the law. - Native reservations have the highest rates of poverty in the US, with over HALF of tribal homes with no access to clean water (with more joining this list by the year) - Native people are 6-10x more likely to be unhoused than the rest of the population, and native teens suffer suicide rates higher than any other demographic. This list of modern day genocide goes on (thank you for compiling @theindigenousanarchist <3) and yet take a look at those environmental stats!

Native people manage to do SO much for the planet as a whole - thanklessly - and with all this stacked against them. Don't even get me started on kin fighting in south america. Could you imagine if there was help? #landback is resistance to genocide, and it is the key to saving our warming earth.

So look into it and the other hashtags, cuz a cartoon goose ain't a substitute for a proper education. Love to my grandparents who always kept a map of tribal territories of turtle island on their wall, to speaking on our Tsalagi & Saponi heritage. My eldest son Zain's first year at school was a joy for his school, friends and teachers. His life was like the life of any child who dreams of everything beautiful.

My second son, Yahya, was in his first year of kindergarten,and he would wake up early, happy to go to his friends and play.

Or do they now wake up to the sounds of planes and explosions and feel ashamed when they stand in line to get food or water? A terrible difference between our lives in the past and the present. A year between our stable life and the life of war, no education, no games, no life, no security, and no source of income. How long, world, where is humanity, where are the rights of my children? i love found families.. what do you mean they kill people left and right? are they not allowed family fun night?

"In most cases, there is chronic diarrhoea, there is respiratory illness because malnutrition essentially causes weak immunity," [Ahmed Nasser] explains. "These symptoms appeared after five months of war and exacerbated over time." (source)

Malnutrition is associated with:

Severe complications for pregnant women & newborns

Higher risk of frequent illness and more severe illness in both children & adults, slow deaths complicated by dehydration (due to diarrhea) & muscle wasting

The combination of starvation, dehydration, & infection can be deadly to anyone, but the effects on children under 5 (especially newborns) is catastrophic.

None of these can be dealt with in Gaza right now: the healthcare system is on the edge of collapse. Lack of clean water, sanitation, and overcrowding is making the situation worse.

Samah is the doting mother to 3 children: two girls (aged 2 and 9), and a 6 month old baby boy, who was born in a field hospital in incredibly difficult circumstances. All he's known in his short life is scarcity & danger. Like his sisters, he's been fighting repeated respiratory infections and with winter here, Samah is terrified for them. The continued siege & destruction in Gaza has made basic essentials (i.e., baby formula & fresh food, clean water, diapers, warmer clothing) incredibly expensive. Samah & her family are totally reliant on donations just to survive, but they're still very low on funds. These basics are simple solutions to help the kids avoid getting sick, becoming severely malnourished, or having to deal with the complications of either.
