CONFIRMED: The movie version of "Sincerely Me" is a genuine cinematic masterpiece. It's a fantastic adaptation in a way the rest of the movie absolutely fails to be, in that it actually takes advantage of the medium to do more with the concept instead of less. Some highlights:

"I like my parents!" 👍😃👍

Fantasy Connor and Evan going on go-Karting, DDR-dancing, and litter collecting friend-dates.

Legitimately incredible dance choreography.

Jared just straight up inserting himself into their fantasy world near the end while Evan and Connor pointedly ignore him.

It's so good that I honestly can't believe the same people who made it also made the rest of the movie.

I've seen a lot of discourse in recent weeks about how evan hansen is actually a monster, so here's my take:

regardless of their consequences, evan's actions were not malicious prior to the formation of the connor project.

his initial motivators are guilt (feeling responsible for tipping connor over the edge), embarrassment (over having to admit that he name-dropped his crush in his letter), and bad advice (from jared).

at first, he just wants to console the murphys in their grief, and lets them believe he was friends with connor to comfort them.

however, disappear acts as a turning point in the story, when evan's motives become murky. he decides he likes the attention he's been receiving as a result of his "friendship" with connor, and the song openly states that the project is founded on evan's unwillingness to fade back into obscurity.

upon closer analysis this song becomes rather sinister when you realise that when evan sings "no one deserves to be forgotten", he's not singing about connor, but about himself. (incidentally, I think that's largely the reason the song was cut for the movie, in a vain attempt to paint evan more positively.)

after that, the focus shifts much more to evan and his actions in the charity fraud fundraising campaign, and connor, ironically, fades into the background until evan eventually gets cold feet.

evan's actions were unquestionably reprehensible, and dubiously forgivable. but they were not initially malicious.

There is an author on both AO3 and Wattpad that writes FANTASTIC historical lams fics.

Her name on AO3 is Rogueangelll

I suggest starting by reading her Lams Oneshot book (it's on Wattpad) though I will warn you, most of them are rated Explicit. and they are VERY well-written smut shots. trust me. But anyways, her writing is amazing and multiple of the one-shots are over 10k words-

A Soldiers’ Chorus by Blue_Clover ( @fightinglaffy ) (Historical Lams) A ghost AU that first shattered my heart into pieces and then skillfully stuck it back together again 💔

His Voice by Sunnyrea (Historical Lams; notice a theme yet? xD) The absolute sweetest little fic, where Hamilton reads to Laurens. I adore it ❣️

And still, I am grateful by spots_of_violet (Historical Lams). This one is still a wip, but it’s a gorgeous Laurens lives AU, and I continually reread what’s been posted so far! 👀

And, a bonus (I know it’s 5 but I’m breaking that law lmao) fic I’m most looking forward to reading! University work has spoiled my fic reading time lately, but:

Suite Madame Blue by peblezQ ( @peblezq ) a Laurens Lives AU, is staring tantalizingly at me from my bookmarks. Considering how much I love their other Lams fics (and some are modern AUs, if you’re interested) I’m excited to read it!
