On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.

This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.

Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.

I was playing Book 6 and I got to that part where Idia was saying what he discovered about Grim and then I was asking myself,

What are the things we know about Grim? Did we find something now? And now with Book 8 coming I'm even more curious about his lore and involvement in the story ( I don't think we saw Grim eating Malleus' blot stone ... yet )

We actually didn't learn anything new about Grim in book 7. Here's what we do know about Grim right now:

Birthday, age, and homeland are unknown.

He is 70 cm tall.

He's considered a first year student in Class A, seat 9.

He can breathe fire, though he tends to lack precision and his magic is sometimes described as "crude" by other characters.

He started the Gastronomy Club. Grim generally enjoys eating, with his favorite food being canned tuna and not disliking anything in particular (seeing as he'll eat even blot stones). His best subject is also listed as "eating".

His pet peeve is taking notes; he is not depicted as particularly studious.

His talent is escaping.

His best subject is Animal Linguistics.

He has a close relationship with Yuu, Ace, and Deuce--especially Yuu. Grim seems to be anxious when the topic of Yuu going home and leaving him alone in Twisted Wonderland comes up.

Crowley calls Grim a "direbeast", but it's not certain what Grim actually is. He does, however, take offense to being called a tanuki (or weasel, in EN).

He likes attention.

His dream is to be a world-class mage someday!

He is unable to recall memories of his family or his past, but reports the following: "I remember wakin' up hungry and alone. It was real cold. I was waitin' out there for someone to come get me for ages. What happened after that again? It's all so foggy..."

Idia confirms in book 6 that even though Grim doesn't seem powerful, there is complex ancient magic layered over each other. This makes it difficult to track blot accumulation. There seems to be "thousand year old" ancient sorcery involved.

Idia theorizes that Grim possesses a curse or a blessing similar to his own family's.

And while we haven't seen Grim eating Malleus's blot stone on screen, there's still definitely ominous implications! The current popular theory seems to posit Grim as a sorcerer's apprentice from long ago.

i know im on the people loving freaky animals website but you people need to understand that a lot of attention for animal conservation is driven by how ""traditionally cute"" or likeable animals are to the general public. yes eels ARE cute i agree! theyre my favourite animal!! i love their little faces, and the way the move, and the way they open and close their mouths with empty stares but if i mention how amazing eels are to a random person i reckon 85% of the time they give me looks like they have absolutely no idea where they're coming from.

if you showed the general public a picture of a new zealand longfin eel and a hector's dolphin (both endangered, both found only in NZ) and asked which species should get more conservation funding i can near guarantee the general consensus would be that the dolphin deserves more. just because it's more appealing to the human eye. that's why im so mad. both of these creatures are important, neither deserves to go extinct. but people don't pay attention to the slimy writhers, they like the ones that are cute or cool or useful.

this is a tired rant from someone who's getting people misreading their post, but i see it in so many conservation workers or people who work with endangered species. lovers of plants or parasites or beetles or any number of amazing species that have their plight ignored by the general public for not being one of the pretty ones. we need to separate an animals usefulness from how many people like the way it looks.

If we’re being honest, most of us study our favourite character less like an entomologist studies a bug and more like an astronomer studies a distant star: drawing complicated inferences from extremely limited data, then getting tetchy about it when somebody else draws incompatible but equally well-supported inferences from the same data because it’s the fucking principle of the thing.
