losing you was a summer-long sunburn. everything hurt to touch. i couldn’t sleep, every position was a blister. i felt dried out, clammy and too hot at the same time, so tired and yet always awake. the worst part was that it still hurt after it faded. the worst part was that others looked and me and said they understood that kind of pain, but eventually rolled their eyes when i brought you up, telling me i should have known better than to not cover my little heart up. the worst part was driving home and seeing the turn i would have taken and feeling that flash roll up my skin. no the worst part was breakfast without you in it. no the worst part was just you. just you. just not having you ever again.
Eddie calls the Venom Symbiote “love” and “dear” multiple times, and calls the Symbiote his “other”.
The Symbiote considers their union as “just like marriage”.
The Symbiote, despite being at that time bonded to Mac Gargan, stopped Gargan from killing Eddie due to their long-time partnership.
The Symbiote had a baby while bonded to Eddie, kept the pregnancy secret, but communicated to Spider-Woman that Eddie was the one it trusted to raise its baby right. Many, including Venom, referred to Eddie as “the father”.
When separated by Venom’s other host and partner, Flash Thompson, Eddie and the Symbiote found each other solely by following their inherent connection. Eddie “followed the thread” to the Symbiote, and the Symbiote broke out through the faucet drain to find Eddie.
There is no actual middle ground to the hard, completely canon fact that the Symbiote and Eddie Brock just… love each other, are obsessed with each other, and consider themselves to only be complete when together.
These are central themes to most Venom-centric storylines, even in the 90s where you’d think the possible queer reading of the subject would be avoided by comics creators. But it seems like the fact that Venom is a genderless alien from a symbiotic race only bolstered the writers into having the relationship be read as, from a human perspective, romantic and extremely sensual, co-dependent and obsessive, but also tender and full of passion.
The pairing of Eddie Brock and the Symbiote is canon. That is just a fact of their history.
