prompt: an accidental kiss between exes

The music is deafening. You feel its vibrations in your body as it sounds through the large blaring speakers, reaching every nook and cranny of the packed frat house. Mostly everyone is either completely hammered or slightly tipsy, singing their asses off to some loud song, grinding against each other’s sweaty bodies or slotting their lips with people as if their life depends on saliva swapping. 

It’s practically burning inside from all the body heat; you’re standing in a random corner, nursing a red solo cup in your hand, the cold liquid inside providing you relief as your eyes dart around, taking in the vibrant strobe lights and familiar faces you’ve seen around campus. Until one brunette catches your eyes, his honey orbs meeting yours just as yours make contact with his and his lips stretch into a radiant smile—and as much as you hate to admit it, even after the breakup, his curled lips still manage to make your heart burst at its seams, and make your breath hitch. He takes long strides towards you and your gut twists at the thought of meeting him after nearly a month, making a myriad of feelings surface—raged; over the fact that you had to encounter his stupidly gorgeous face at this party. Sorrow; over the fact that he’s the only man who had his hold wrapped around your heart like no other, someone who you can’t seem to move on from. Longing; you miss his muscular arms around you, you crave to taste his tender lips once more, and God do you despise yourself for it. 

Before you realise, Peter’s already standing closer to you, saying something you can’t hear over the booming sounds of the bass blasting in the house, so Peter’s not surprised to see the confused look etched on your face. He simply gestures outside, where you see a few people scattered among the garden, bottles surrounding them and you understand his indication. He wants you to come outside with him. You’re reluctant and Peter easily notices—he can read you like a book. 

“Please?” He mouths, and the desperation on his face makes you give in and you nod. He releases a breath caught in his throat at your answer and laces his fingers with yours without much thought, and you hold onto them—it being an action of muscle memory and he leads you outside, carefully navigating you from the sea of drunk college students. He manages to find a secluded corner by one of the trees in the garden. 

“Wild party, huh?” He says, chuckling, nodding his head towards the ongoing rage inside.

“Exactly the reason I’m wondering why you’re here,” You respond, your tone unintentionally clipped.

“Well ouch,” He says, and averts his gaze from you, and he pulls his hand away from your grasp, body stiffening, which makes you feel slightly remorseful.

“I didn’t mean it like that, just meant that this isn’t your usual scene,” You express genuinely apologetic, and that answer seems to satisfy Peter judging by the gentle upturning of his lips.

“Just was a little lonely is all,” He replies, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. Your heart pangs at his response, reminiscing about all the Friday nights you’d spend cuddling together, lips locked until they’d become swollen and you couldn’t breathe. 

“Ah, alright.” You mumble, wringing your hands together uncomfortably as the awkward silence blooms in the space between you two. 

It’s a few moments until Peter speaks again, calling out your name, gaining your attention, and the distance between you two is suddenly closer than you remember, your chests separated only by a small gap, his next words taking you aback.

“I want to kiss you.”

“What?”

He only moves closer, foreheads touching and large palms caressing your cheeks. His lips graze yours gently, tentatively, as if he’s going to kiss you for the first time, waiting for your permission to let him taste the flavour of your lips. 

You’re broken up, you shouldn’t kiss. 

The scent of his coconut shampoo fills your senses, his cologne making you dizzy and you feel like this is where you’re meant to be…you succumb to his advances, connecting your lips with his silken, almost pillowy ones, warmth blooming in your chests. 

You only pull away when your lungs burn. Breathing heavy, your eyes are back on his softened chestnut ones—they almost seem to be glossy with tears.

“I hated that we couldn’t do this anymore for a month.” He mutters against the flesh of your lips, hands finding purchase around your waist. He knows your feelings run strong akin to his with the way he can hear your heart thumping in your chest. “Let me make it up to you tomorrow, picnic at the top of the Empire State…please?” 

“See you at 7, Spidey.”
