„Nice guy you have there.“

„Oh, no we’re not… like that.“

„Oh!“

Kim smiles a bit. She really likes this lady, likre really, but she didn’t dare to do anything anything about it. She and that guy looked so cute together.

„He… he’s my brother actually.“

„He is? That is… Nice. Yeah. Uhm, Hannah, you want a coffee?“

„Coffee? Yes, why not.“

Hannah never had coffee before, but Cas kept talking about it and bought a cup at each gas station they stopped.

She sits down at the kitchen table, next to Kim stares into the mug Kim places in front of her.

„It smells good.“

She tries to smile. This whole small talk and those human interactions are still so confusing to her. But Kim is really nice and kind and funny. She makes this so much easier.

„Oh, I’m sorry. Do you want milk or sugar? I always drink black and sometimes forget not everyone does.“

„No, thank you, I’m good.“

She takes a sip, it’s bitter.

„You are a very kind human, Kim. Thank you so much.“

„Oh well, you’re welcome. So, Hannah, you’re not from here, are you?“

„No. No we’re not. We’re from… Canada.“

She panics a bit. She really doesn’t know what to do, what to say.

„Really? And are you on you’re way to a doctor?“

„A doctor?“

„For your brother. He seems sick.“

„Oh, yes, yes.“

„I hope he’ll get better.“

„Me too.“

„Well, uhm, he seems to get along with my daughter very well, and they are busy watching cartoons. I figured, you might want to take a shower?“

„A shower? Yes, good a shower.“

Hannah nods. This is what humans do, right? Taking a shower in the morning.

„I know this is kind of a bit too straight forward but, mind if I join you?“

„No. Not at all.“
