In the last four days, a lot of you might have seen the video of Mr. Philip Banks catching a baby boy that was thrown out of a burning building - the baby was saved by both him and the mother who sacrificed herself to help save her kids. In the video, you can hear neighbors pleading with her to jump down herself, but she didn't. She was completely engulfed in flames by the time she went back in to try and save her daughter. There are three heroes in this story, and all three of them are angels, one in Heaven now, and the other two here on Earth. Mr. D'Artagnan Alexander is the name of the neighbor of the Longs who kicked in the door of their apartment, went inside the fire and saved the little girl, who the mother managed to carry as close to the exit as possible before succumbing to her horrific injuries. The final sacrifice of a loving mother and the selflessness and bravery of these two amazing men are incredible. Words aren't enough.
Both of the children made it, but sadly it was too late for Mrs. Rachel Long. She leaves behind a little girl that will need more surgeries to start her recovery, a baby boy that is getting better but is extremely traumatized, and a husband who is now heartbroken and left homeless with their two children.

Mr. Phillip Banks is a true hero. The way he sprinted to catch the little boy, throwing himself with everything he got to save him - without a doubt, the boy would have been severely more injured or gone if it wasn't for him. Mr. D'Artagnan Alexandar is another true hero. That little girl would not have made it without him. He ran inside a burning apartment, risked his life, all to save a child and he tried saving the mother too, but she was already impossible. Can't imagine how traumatic all of that is for the two of them as well, and for all the neighbors and family members affected. A lot of people helped in this tragic situation.
And Mrs. Rachel Long? I can't even begin to describe how horrifying it is what she had to do to save her children, and how brave she was in her final moments. She was such a strong woman and amazing mother. No one should ever have to go through that. How do you recover from something like this? It seems impossible. She and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Shukri Abdi was a 12 year old Somalian girl who was born and brought up in a refugee camp in Kenya having escaped conflict in Somalia. She arrived in the UK in 2017 and experienced horrific bullying from her classmates who called her âcolouredâ and âhalf-casteâ.Â
In 2017 her body was found in the River Irwell, when police arrived children were still laughing as Shukri drowned. Greater Manchester police quickly declared the incident an accident.Â
âChild Four said that Shukri seemed untroubled in the deeper water when she had her arm on Child Oneâs shoulder, but appeared to get into difficulties when Child One let go of her and swam back to the other children.â
âThen Shukriâs head went under and came back up. I think she was trying to say something but she couldnât, trying to call out but she couldnât,â Child Four told the court. Â
Child Four was asked by the court if Child One was laughing when they could see Shukri struggling and sumberging beneath the surface.
Child Four replied âYesâ and said they presumed it was because they thought Shukri was joking about drowning, but Child Four said they could see Shukri wasnât joking. Child Four jumped in the water to try to save Shukri. Child Three ran to get a stick to try to pull Shukri out.
âChild One was laughing for a couple of minutes,â Child Four told the inquest. âChild One was still laughing when me and Child Three were trying to help. Child One was still laughing when I jumped in.â
Child Four said that neither Child One nor Child Two were doing anything while Shukri was drowning, and that Child One only stopped laughing when the police came.
After jumping into the water to try to save Shukri, Child Four realised they would not be able to save her, so ran to the nearby Bury police station to alert them. Child Three did the same.
Child Four said that Child Three blamed Child One for the tragedy âbecause they let go of Shukriâ.

It is claimed by the other children CH1 said âIf you donât get into the water, Iâm going to kill youâ to Shukri before the incident. This was intentional and not an accident. Shukri, her poor mother and dear siblings deserve justice. They came to this country thinking they were going to be safe. Manchester claims to be open and honest and loving and yet a vulnerable child has died in their city. You need to be screaming for Justice. Inquests are not enough and not fast enough, not for Shukri, not for her mother. Justice.Â

I think part of why I have trouble explaining pain to the doctor is when they ask about the pain scale I always think âWell, if someone threw me down a flight of stairs right now or punched me a few times, it would definitely hurt a lot moreâ so I end up saying a low number. I was reading an article that said that â10â is the most commonly reported number and that is baffling to me. When I woke up from surgery with an 8" incision in my body and I could hardly even speak, I was in the most horrific pain of my life but I said â6â because I thought âWell, if you hit me in the stomach, it would be worse.â

Marshae Jones was shot in 2018 during an argument. She was 5-months pregnant at the time and the trauma ended the pregnancy. While charges were dropped against the shooter, the survivor, Marshae Jones is now being charged with manslaughter for starting the argument. Black and indigenous women are almost always the first targets of policies that attempt to steal autonomy over their own bodies from women. Marshae is clearly the victim in this situation, yet she know faces a hefty prison sentence for being shot. She is being held on a $50,000 bail.
