Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong'o will play a mother and daughter in true story The Woman King for TriStar Pictures.
Inspired by true events that took place in The Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries, The Woman King tells the story of Nanisca (Davis), general of the all-female military unit known as the Amazons, and her daughter Nawi (Nyongâo), who together fought the French and neighboring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything theyâve lived for.
Cathy Schulman will produce via her Welle Entertainment, along with Davis and and her husband Julius Tennon via their JuVee Productions. Maria Bello of Jack Blue Productions will also produce.
Hannah Minghella and Nicole Brown will oversee the project for TriStar Pictures.

Before creation itself there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence, and the remnants of these systems were forged into concentrated ingotâŚInfinity Stones.Â

But going off of what u were commenting on the luke/master post. Not only does he wait before doing the mind wandering, he also waits while fighting. When he fought w Finn on SKB forest, he waited for Finn to get situated w the lightsaber when they start the duel. Compared to the throne room duel, he doesnt even seem to want to actively kill finn (or rey) during the forest fight. When confronting ppl, fighting or interrogation. He wants them aware and for it to be fair fight.
So this is in reference to a theory I have about the night Ben Solo burned down the temple. Luke tells Rey that he chose to confront Ben Solo about the growing darkness inside Ben. We know that Snoke has been invading Ben Soloâs mind for a very long time, but itâs this confrontation with Luke that truly pushes him over the edge.
First off, Luke Skywalker does not truly confront Ben. Instead, he sneaks in while Ben is asleep. The fact that Luke waited until his nephew was asleep is proof that he wanted to confirm his suspicions without a REAL confrontation.
He confirms that Ben is asleep when he goes into Benâs mind. This is a good time to do so because his nephewâs defenses are down. He canât block Luke from his thoughts. What Luke finds is the darkness of Snoke. Kylo Ren tells Rey that Luke sensed his power and feared it. From Kyloâs perspective, he confronted Luke to attack him when he was most vulnerable.
He must realize at this point that Luke has seen into his mind and KNOWS how powerful he is becoming because of the dark side. He wakes up to his Master holding a lightsaber and defends himself. We know this creates Kylo Ren, but it also affects how Kylo Ren behaves moving forward.
Kylo Ren could have taken information from Poe Dameronâs mind while he was sleeping. Poe would not be able to resist him. If Luke could go into Benâs mind, thereâs no reason to doubt Kylo could enter into Poeâs mind. Yet he waits.
Itâs okay when Poe Dameron wakes up that he begins to reach into Poeâs mind and find out where the map is to Luke Skywalker. He does this again with Rey.
He could have looked into her mind while she was unconscious, but he waits until sheâs awake and TALKS to her first. He asks her about the droid. He only enters into her mind when heâs certain sheâll never answer his questions. Furthermore, when he delves into her private life Rey tells him to get out of her head. He canât do that. He has a mission to finish, but he immediately returns to his previous line of questioning, to find out about the droid.
The fact that he does not go into Poe and Reyâs mind when they are vulnerable may be because of his experience with Luke. He hates Skywalker with a passion at this point, and itâs possible he wants to put as much distance between how Luke behaved and his own actions. Invading the privacy of a personâs mind is still an intimate and intrusive act. Strange that a cruel, heartless villain wouldnât use every advantage. However, Kylo Ren still has the memories of waking up with Luke looming over him and that isnât easy to forget.
Now, weâve seen Kylo Ren execute people, like in the case of Lor San Tekka, and even Han Solo. They were not given the chance to defend themselves. However, soon after Hanâs death Kylo Ren fights Finn. Itâs strange that he doesnât take advantage of several moments in which Finn is vulnerable during the fight. By the end of their duel he seems to take great care in NOT killing Finn. We watched Kylo take on Snokeâs guards, several at a time.
Kylo is vicious and calculating in a way he wasnât with Finn. He cuts off limbs and shoves his lightsaber through their chest or back. Kylo could have done this with Finn during their fight, but he doesnât. WHY? Something is holding him back. Ben Solo. These subtle hints of morality based on his own experiences are the reason he canât embrace the dark side fully. He has a morality thatâs forming through the abuse and terrible experiences of his past. Kylo Ren is led by both the light and the dark side.
When people say that heâs a heartless, villain itâs just further proof that they arenât picking up on this subtle moments in which Ben Solo re-emerges. When they call him abusive I think about the fact that he consciously or subconsciously refuses to take the actions Luke took that created Kylo Ren. He does what he must, but feels obligated to do so with a morality formed through that horrible experience.
We know Luke Skywalker made a terrible mistake, but itâs obvious even before his âweaknessâ that he treated Ben Solo with a certain distance and lack of compassion. Not like family, but as an apprentice in which he can do as he pleases. They werenât enemies when Luke invaded Benâs mind. They werenât on opposite sides of a war when he chose to violate Benâs privacy WHILE HE WAS SLEEPING. Kylo Ren CHOOSES not to treat others the way Luke treated him. Thatâs an act of compassion (shown to Rey AND his enemies). Compassion that Luke Skywalker didnât show that night when he created Kylo Ren.
