and actually rn katsuki's the one sobbing and in need of reassurance that they'll still be competing even though izuku's quirkless

Katsuki had always been with Izuku until he left the UA because he wanted to protect the people there; he got a taste of what it was like to be without Izuku, to worry about him and having no idea what he was doing; nights without sleep because Katsuki thinks/knows no one can protect Izuku like he does.

So it's not a surprise why he broke down like he did when he was in Izuku's hospital room; he knows what's like to live without Izuku now and he doesn't want to go through that ever again. He doesn't want Izuku to leave him behind, but he's not sure if he has a spot in Izuku's life if they can't be rivals anymore, he's not even sure if he has the right to ask for more at this point.

That's why he sobbed like a little kid; he doesn't want to lose Izuku again.
