edit: i’ve no plans to continue this atm, read this for more info!
Clan Generator’s back!! (for now!)
The first version I put out here got much more popularity than i thought and i’m very happy to hear people have been enjoying it and waiting for an update! :D it’s been more than half a year since so I don’t think this update will reach anywhere near that popularity, but that’s fine honestly.
(here’s old post!)
What’s new:
* Timeskip - the cats can grow older now (edit: there is no way to replace the leader yet, so once the leader dies, the clan will have to go without one)
* Pairing the cats, so that they can have litters of kittens together (a cat can have kittens even without a partner, in which case it will show the other parent as ‘unknown’) it will not notify you of new kittens, you’ll have to find them yourself on the CLAN page.
(also; it gives a small note if the pair can’t have kittens together. However while from the settings you can toggle what kind of pairs can have kittens together, it will still give that note even when it doesn’t apply anymore)
* Starclan to archive old dead cats (edit: there is a cat there already waiting, but sometimes that cat will crash your game when you click on it. Usually only happens once, but be careful)
* Cats can die, but only of old age as of yet (be careful so your clan doesn’t get overpopulated with the timeskips! so far the only way to manage should be by pairing a lot of the cats in same-sex pairs and choosing from the settings to not let them have kittens)
* Settings & info page (just a few options yet)
* and other minor improvements and additions
Why it took so long:
A lot of these improvements I already made ages ago. But there was an issue with the first version that I shared (the same issue that I’ve had with all Python projects i’ve shared) and that is the occasional triggered false virus warnings from my program that some people have gotten. I know this is an issue with many Python-program-turned-executables and it doesn’t seem to have a reliable fix for it, but it really stressed me out when i first heard people were receiving these warnings because I didn’t want to look like I was scamming people or something. So once I figured what the problem was, I thought it’s just best I try to convert this project (and future ones) into the C++ language instead.
Problem is… that would take much longer than I first thought it would. Not just because I’m still a total newbie for C++ but also because of how busy I’ve been. So I’m giving up on that for now (I’ll still learn it eventually for the future projects and maybe for a faraway update on this). So enjoy this update. Or don’t, if you decide you don’t trust my word on those warnings being false, that’s perfectly understandable too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
**** Download links: ****
(just download the .zip file and extract into the folder where you want the program to be in! You don’t need the older version for this)
Windows: x
Mac/Linux (might not work; read note below!!): x
note: The ‘mac/linux’ link is actually just a python version that should be able to work on anything that has Python in it. If you know nothing about Python and Pygame and want to use this version, here’s a short google docs guide I made: x
note 2: if you had a previous clan that you want to use in this updated version, you can: firstly, find the folder called “saves” in the old clanGen folder. There should be two files there (’cats.txt and clan.txt’). Simply replace the new files with the same names and same location in the new clanGen.2/saves folder with those two old files. Leave the “settings.txt” file as it is.

If you have any questions or issues, feel free to ask me!! Thank you if you decide to try this update out! :DD
(also i’d love it you shared your generated clans with me!!)
this was a long undertaking but i’m beyond excited to post what i believe is the most comprehensive daemon-finding quiz to date, featuring 34 categories of animals and over 320 total possible outcomes! from insects to owls to seals to wild cats, you’re sure to find a unique result that fits your personality.
tag or comment what your daemon would be! :) mine’s a cocker spaniel!
EDIT: the quiz has two parts, the category which this post links to (34 options), and then the specific animal within that category (5-15 options) which you’re linked to once you get your result!
this is so cool!

M.A.S.H Daemons!!!
Names and Species: Hawkeye - Evelyn (Capuchin monkey) Trapper - Aileen (Irish Wolfhound) BJ - Matilda (Golden retriever) Father Mulcahy - Máiréad (Highland cow) Margaret - Conley (Rooster) Charles - Patricia (Berkshire pig) Klinger - Hani (chukar) Radar - Aishling (Little brown bat) Henry - Winnie (Jackrabbit) Col. Potter - Lorraine (Catahoula Leopard Dog) Sidney - Rivka (Polyphemus moth) Frank - Karen (turkey)
If you’re wondering at all the dogs and farm animals, I imagined that was probably common in the 1940′s when there wasn’t a lot of exposure to more relatively exotic animals (unless you’re Hawkeye who went to the zoo once and had to be special)
If anyone wants to tell me my choices are wrong… don’t. don’t do that. that’s mean.

George Washington and Keion (White Horse)
I am a political historian and love to think about what form various historical figures dæmons might take, and so I thought I might start doing my own historical head cannons every now and then. Since tomorrow is constitution day here in the U.S. Washington seemed like an appropriate start. These are not really meant to be political or in-depth, just a brief sketch of why the person is famous and their character followed by their dæmon. This was a lot of fun to put together, so if anyone has ideas for who to do next please send them in.
Though certainly not perfect, Washington is one of the most famous and celebrated figures in history. In his lifetime he led the United States in its rebellion against the British empire, chaired the nation’s constitutional convention, and served as the US’s first president. He is widely hailed as the father of his country, and many historians believe his extraordinary willpower and reputation for virtue can be credited with holding the fledgling country together in its earliest days.
A white horse is the perfect fit for Washington. Horses are usually associated with freedom, dignity, power, and high aims. All of this fits the major narratives of Washington’s life. A white horse in particular, puts one in mind of a magnanimous figure who works as a celebrated military leader and statesmen. I can just imagine him riding his magnificent dæmon across the battlefield.
I have given his dæmon an Ancient Greek name which means nobility, which seems very fitting.
