I think the one thing that most people tend to overlook in terms of the relationship between Silver and Jim is that Silver is perhaps the first person that sees Jim for him and recognises his worth and talent despite Jim's combative and guarded attitude.

I absolutely don't doubt that a large part of Jim's arc is him yearning for a father figure, but I also think that he generally craves a parental figure who sees him for who he is, skills and all. Sarah Hawkins outright admits that she no longer understands her own son, but who does?

Silver.

Silver sees past Jim's guarded self and helps nurture his very evident skills, validates him on more than one occasion and even displays very genuine pride in him, something that Jim truly craved and needed, something that helped Jim realise his self worth.

Do you every think that when the Doctor regenerates it traumatizes him everytime? I get it's normal for timelords and he acts all fine about it, but just think. He or well she currently dies and becomes a whole new person each time. New body, new mentality, new personality. Just a random thought.

I truly appreciate the fact that DreamWorks gave Master Shifu - an old man - room to grow and develop as a character. That kind of character is usually one to be portrayed in animation as pitch-perfect, but I love that I could still relate to him as he fought against his doubts and the ghosts of his past mistakes.
