literally most things that people write off as just ‘textures’ to use in graphics are stolen & unsourced material created by artists or photographers NOT meant to be used as elements in projects without royalty payments. you can say ‘it’s just random tumblr posts they don’t care’ but you wouldn’t want someone to take your work and edit into their work so they can be praised for their beautiful style and creativity even if they just post it on social media w/o profit, would you?? so maybe if you browse pinterest or google images for pictures without finding the original source, you’re using images that you’re not allowed to use without realizing it.

you see it on here a lot especially in (i won’t link anything but i’m sure you know what i mean) those album track ‘aesthetics’ posts, au ‘aesthetic’ posts (you see these less in kpop, but where people use non-royalty free images to kinda craft a visual au), and even just rather typical graphics that have a lot of ‘texture’ elements. and texture packs too!! that’s often where the problem starts; people just collect images (often literal art), compile them in a folder w/o sources, then insist no one can repost those images w/o crediting the person who compiled them. what???

SO may i suggest some of my fave places you can get FREE, ROYALTY-FREE elements that are totally legal to use

creativemarket has 6 free high-quality resources (textures, brushes, fonts, etc), different every week! wow awesome i check it every week

search ‘freebie’ on behance. awesome stuff!!! lots of v nice templates textures and fonts

mockup zone freebies

unsplash: tons of very nice free photographs, not shitty stock photos

pexels: same idea. + they have an adobe plugin so you can get photos without closing your editor damn nice

pixelsquid is a super cool free program (again w a ps plugin that i love) with lottts of super cool hq 3d elements!

as to not make this too long: spoongraphics, lostandtaken (textures galore), pixeden, freebiesbug.

7 amazing Photoshop extensions and tools for digital artists

Hello!

After a period of silence on the articles’ side of the blog, we are back! And this time with a new great list of PS extensions and tools that designers and painters will love!

image

1. Colour Constructor

Colour Constructor is a brilliant little program that helps you design colour and values in a very simple way. Especially for painters, this program demonstrates how colours, shadows, and lights of your choice interact on a 3D object.

Colour Constructor is a study and workflow tool that is designed to help you design the colours and values for a painting or image you are making according to a light source and ambient term.

Ahmed Aldoori made a test video of the program and you can watch it here.

image

2. Coolorus

Coolorus is an amazing colour weel plug-in made for Photoshop.

Coolorus is the right choice for creative people willing to improve their painting workflow. It saves time, and helps you choose better colors thanks to Color Schemes, Gamut Lock and the power of triangle HSV representation.

image

3. Chameleon Adaptive Palette

Chameleon Adaptive Palette is a flexible - and very pretty - palette panel designed for the love and happiness of concept artists and digital painters.

Chameleon Palette is a single panel that changes according to your needs. Each of the strips provides a different color function, but they all have the same principle.  They automatically and intelligently generate ranged colors swatches or palettes based on the one you just selected. From whatever source, canvas included.

image

4. Prisma Palette

Prisma Palette is a particular Photoshop plug-in that generates different colour palettes for areas in shadow and areas in light.

Prisma Palette generates individual gamut masks for any number of light sources; mapping exact local colours to lit colours within the colour space.

image

5. Lazy Nezumi

One of the most popular applications used by designers and digital artists, Lazy Nezumi lets you take control of your lines. This powerful Windows app helps artists draw smooth lines with different features and options, such as Position Smoothing, Pressure Processing, Scripting, a set of rulers, and more.

Lazy Nezumi works with Photoshop and many other art programs, 2D and 3D. You can check the list of supported products here.

image

6. AD Brutus Symmetry

AD Brutus Symmetry is a Photoshop CC panel that helps artists work with almost realtime symmetry.

AD Brutus Symmetry uses Photoshop guides (vertical and horizontal) as Axis for the symmetry, but it’s not limited to guides, it also works with selections and for fastest use we can assign shorcuts to the main functions.

Note though that while Photoshop still doesn’t have any mirror painting tool, other softwares such as Corel Painter, Krita, and CLIP Studio Paint do.

image

7. BrushBox

There are many Photoshop extensions and panels that help artists organise their brushes in folders, but we’ve found that BrushBox really outshines them all. Though a bit pricey ($15), especially considering that similar products can be found on Gumroad for less or even for free, BrushBox can do everything and more when it comes to managing brushes.

Like with a layer panel, artists can organise brushes and tool presets into groups, colour code them, search through presets by name and type, and much more.

Note that the brush preset panel in the new Photoshop CC 2018, however, has this same management feature.

So I see a lot of Disney...

and Mei being used for the Hong Kong protests, which is great! But if you really want to hit China where it hurts

Use Hello Kitty

She is a big part of Chinese culture. Banning her would be bad for them. They have an Amusement Park dedicated to her.

i’m obsessed with this scene

Describing some of my favorite cartoons to make them sound as weird and awful as possible:

Steven Universe: A teenage boy is his own mom and inherits her war crimes that he knows nothing about. Everyone sings.

The Dragon Prince: Some prince boys run away from home with the most terrible assassin ever. Everything changed when the Night Elves attacked, but I believe magical pets can save the world. Avatar: The Last Airbender Easter eggs everywhere.

Carmen Sandeigo (2019): Let’s commit crimes but we’re not the bad guys but we’re not gonna tell the good guys that we’re not bad guys. A teenage boy we’ve never met is responsible for everything. Good thing his parents let him sit in his room with computer screens 24/7. Let’s also learn geography!

Star vs. the Forces of Evil: A magical princess likes to fight monsters but oh no maybe the real monsters are the government

Miraculous Ladybug: Do you like people who clearly communicate to avoid unnecessary conflict and a plot that makes sense? This show is not for you. After twenty-something episodes, you might finally get an origin story. Santa Claus dabs in the musical Christmas special.

Gravity Falls: Some twins move to Oregon for the summer and everything is spooky. The series is full of mysteries not only for the characters to solve, but for the hardcore fandom to solve while looking absolutely insane to everyone else. The bad guy is the Illuminati.

Sofia the First: A peasant girl becomes a princess when her mom marries the king. To cope with her new life, she gets a magical amulet that gives her superpowers for every nice thing she does. She is a very nice person. She gains a lot of magical powers. By the end of the show, she might as well be a goddess. Also, let’s ride dragons with Rapunzel.

Trollhunters: Jim finds a magical amulet. But unlike Sofia the First, it only causes him suffering. Just your average high school superhero troupe; tryin’ to stop your history teacher from dating your mom/killing you/bringing about the end of the world. Pick up chicks by doing Shakespeare.

3Below: The town of Arcadia had’t gone through enough already. Trollhunters: aliens edition.

Voltron: Legendary Defender: The universe is in trouble so obviously we gotta depend on teenagers in giant robot lions. Queerbait and disappointment for everyone no matter what you were hoping for. If you make it to the end of the show, I‘m sorry.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: A bad guy finds a magical sword so she’s a good guy princess now. Defeat evil with the power of rainbows. Do not assume that anyone in this show is straight.

Tangled: the Series: Rapunzel is the first Disney princess to be partially responsible for one of her friend’s parent’s deaths, be possessed by a demon(?), and openly explicitly suffer from PTSD. Broadway stars sing original music from Alan Menkin while anime fight scenes go on. The plot is about rocks.

Ducktales: A cranky, immortal billionaire adopts some children. Everyone is a duck. Is mom dead or nah?

This grumpy, bad-luck-ridden and easily frustrated duck just becomes a different person around them in The Three Caballeros of 1944. He becomes happy and comfortable to the point of hugging and kissing and dancing with them. I’ve never seen him like this with Mickey and Goofy before.
