concepts for "historically inspired" nutcracker costumes i got the idea of a really long time ago
for clara i went with regency/early biedermeier fashion (im guessing since it was in style mostly in prussia and austria southern germany where the story takes place would have also been affected in the 1820s??)
for the nutcracker it ended up being a mix between different napoleonic era prussian hussar uniforms(late 1800s-1810s)
i dont know if want to do anything with these but at least it was fun
bonus scrapped designs for clara's dress
happy holidays everyone, stay safe <3
hey guys i'm listening to opera and struggling real bad with drawing this week
alr so this is not a very exciting post, but i thought i'd share this bit of my process with those of you who are interested
this is the notebook where i first started brainstorming script ideas and noting anything i thought was important from the story, research bits, etc. now it's just where i do very rough storyboarding (as you can see from the first few low quality photos)
i know it's nothing special, but it has this weird sentimental vibe to me
Image: IWM (Q 87442) Highly decorated NCO of the 119th Infantry Regiment in front of his dugout, complete with floral decorations. Note names of inhabitants on both sides - Unteroffizier Böder; Rokmann (rank unknown); and Vizefeldwebel Böder. He is very likely one of them.

concept portraits of albert kropp
i read somewhere random that his earlobe gets shot off in chapter five and i swear didn't see it anywhere in the book but it was a cool creative liberty to take with his design, i think i'm keeping it for a little more character
