I knew I should have put a disclaimer first!!!!! I just thought people would realize this is my own characterization of Regulus and I probably shouldn’t have put Snape as the comparison but other death eaters in general. I’m so sorry if I made you mad I just fixed it now.
One small difference between Snape and Regulus is how they react to people wanting to join the death eaters.
A younger slytherin comes up to them and tells them they want to become a death eater too.
Snape is fully supportive. Tells them all about the glorious things the Dark Lord has done. Tells them they will have to work hard to gain such an honor and he will be waiting to see them at the next meeting.
Regulus tells them they are making a huge mistake. They will be used as a pawn in Voldemort’s game and, if not willing, forced to kill. He would say it isn’t worth your life.
He tells that kid every horrific thing he’s seen or heard about (he’s still in school so he hasn’t participated in it yet). Better to be scared than dead. He makes sure they don’t want to participate in the war at all.
They are both death eaters, they both support Voldemort and have seen the unspeakable things that have been done. But Regulus knows when he’s being manipulated, and he’ll be damned if he let someone be in the same position as him. It’s too late for him, he’s too deep in the war. He realizes it never mattered what they were fighting for, people are dying no matter what they believed in. He doesn’t want to contribute to that number more than he has to.
Tw: toxic behavior, manipulation, trauma
I feel like Regulus is the most manipulative dick out there.
His entire existence was just lying.
He was taught from an early age how to repress his emotions. His parents and governesses would always make him repeat things back to them over and over again until they felt he learned his lesson.
He’s incredibly observant so he figures out people’s personalities (and insecurities) really quickly. He just automatically mimics their personality when they’re with him so he can get people to trust him.
He can use all of it to get people to do whatever he wants. Through blackmail, manipulation, gaslighting, or thinly veiled threats (because the Blacks always keep it classy).
However, he usually doesn’t rely on other people. He just does it himself.
So, basically, he can do a lot of damage, he just chooses not to. It makes him feel secure to know everyone’s secrets and to know exactly how to keep them complacent if the need ever arises.
Obviously learning this trait at such a young age (literally from birth) caused him to never fully understand who he was. It made him feel emotionless, less than human.
Sirius also learned how to mimic people’s behavior which was why he was always so much more vibrant when he was with James and super quiet with Remus, but soon realized that he didn’t have to hide (and it’s super unhealthy to do) so he quickly unlearned it.
That’s actually super interesting because I always see them never getting together. Like they always have a sad ending in ffs and it’s makes it hard to find fics bc i can’t do sad endings🤪
Also, I always thought that James would already think blood supremacy’s bad but he would learn differently with Reg. He would realize that the ‘bad side’ are people just like him outside of their beliefs. Reg would humanize the death eaters for him. It would make the war more real for the both of them to know who they’re losing
But I LOVE seeing other ideas about the relationship because they shouldn’t all be the same!!!!!
Okay so Jegulus,
I don't ship it.
But not because of the ship.
I don't ship it because of how a lot of other people ship it. Like it can't work out, but that's like the point of it. It was never meant to last forever. It can't work because. Reggie's already too deep into the dark arts, but having dated each other opens each of their eyes to a reality.
Regulus: Dating James plants a seed, that will one day grow into his betrayal of Voldemort. He cannot get there yet, but seeing the 'other side' is an important step.
James: Dating regulus open James' eyes to how bad blood supremacists actually are. This not only leads to him believing that the inevitable result is war, whereas he had previously hoped for a peaceful resolution, but it also gives him an insight into Sirius' home life, which eventually leads to him moving in with the Potters.
The reason this ship can never work out is that we know Regulus becomes a death eater and James Potter would not be okay with that. I think James would have thought he could change Regulus, but he couldn't stop him from getting the mark in the end.
When I read many Jegulus fics they always end up making it end with them together, and in a happy relationship, when in reality their relationship would have been unhealthy and had to end badly.
Regulus’ first crush was Newt Scamander. He would always reread fantastic beasts just so he could get to the picture of him at the end. He didn’t really understand why he would start to blush if he looked too long. His dreams were filled with curly golden hair, high cheek bones, and a tiny smile that he wouldn’t mind kissing.
His passion for magical creatures would bleed into his fascination for this man and vice versa. This was why he loved them so much.
This was also why, a few months after first getting the book and sitting with his brother on the train ride to Hogwarts, he could barely look Remus Lupin in the eye without his whole face going red.
NEVERMIND I FOUND IT THANK YUO FOR TRYING TO HELP ME I LOVE YOU ALL ITS ‘definition of insanity’ by bizzarestars
Idk if people do this anymore but I need help finding a fic that I read like a month ago. It’s a jegulus fic where Regulus doesn’t have a car so Sirius has James drive him to work. James says he’s straight but him and Reg have this flirty lil relationship. One night James comes to Reg drunk and they canoodle but James is gone in the morning I think?? I’m a lil fuzzy on that detail. After that Reg starts dating Kingsley because he’s not gonna fuck with a straight boy again. Then Kingsley moves away and they break up and then Reg and James get together. Also Sirius and Remus fell in love doing porn together and that’s their little side story
The fic was like three chapters but the word count was probably around 10,000-40,000, I can’t imagine it being longer than that.
I loved it and it was fun but now I can’t find it so SOMEBODY ANYBODY HELP ME PLEASE
Plus he’s a pure blood so you know Voldy’s all over that shit
Personally? I love the idea of Voldemort starting to see Regulus as a bit of a threat even without knowing he's onto the Horcruxes. Like, they're a little too similar. Regulus is just as handsome and charming and charismatic and smart as Tom Riddle was at that age, and he's also the wealthy well-connected pureblood heir Tom pretended to be. He's like Voldemort-plus. And that could become a problem.
I feel like we’ve settled on who of the marauders era characters are swifties but now is the time for the real question: Who of those bitches are barbs???
Bro your mind is expansive thank you so much for this perfect explanation. I didn’t think everything was a lie either but I never thought about all of that
ok i don't want to be that person that says "Everyone is wrong and my opinion is the right one" ......but i think everyone is wrong about the ending of Ragnarok.
It was anticlimactic i agree. But i don't think this was all in his head. The final part, the battle, it happened. Magne saw a glimpse of what could have happened if he hadn't went against what things were expected of them. Because this is what the whole show is about. Everyone is expected to be someone and doing something that at the end of the day, they aren't meant to be.
And everyone is like "Oh all of this for Ragnarok to not happen "
But it did.
Just not as it was written. That the Ragnarok they had lived once. That's the Ragnarok they thought they had to live again. They where trapped in a loop of constant fight. But Magne broke that. And the last true Ragnarok happened. He took the nine steps that took Thor to die. And he made a choice. And Thor died. So that Magne could live.
So that they could live.
Ragnarok happened because they left behind their roles. They left behind the expectations they had of themselves. And moved forward. Gone are the times of the Titans and the Gods. They live as humans now.
Ragnarok happened and they are finally free.
If you think of Regulus like that then that’s fine. No one is telling you you can’t. Some people just think of Regulus differently because we have so little to work with that we can interpret them in different ways.
I personally think that Regulus was emotionally manipulated and abused by his parents, some people think he was put on a pedestal by his parents.
That’s what’s so fun about these characters: there isn’t really a right or wrong. Don’t get mad at people who want to make Regulus more than a plot device, I assure you we can all exist peacefully with different opinions.
Honestly, the real reason why I love/really like Regulus Black is because I WANT him to be this super badass, dark, snarky, sexy, mysterious asshole who doesn’t give a fuck about anyone. Sure, I’ll hate him as a person but I’ll love him as a character. I usually love the villains way more than the heroes, like, I find myself wanting grey characters to be more evil.
Sadly, his fans have made it REALLY hard for me to like him, they turn him into this poor, abused sweetheart who was secretly in love with James and was blackmailed into being a death eater and was an angel who did nothing wrong, like, NO! Stop ruining it for me, when I read about him and he appeared for, like, 10 seconds or something, I thought his character had potential, specifically in fanfics, but his fans make me wanna scratch my eyes out. Like, stop making him a poor little white boy, make dark headcanons about him, make him more complicated and interesting. His fans are just extremely annoying, and it REALLY pisses me off when they say “Regulus Black is the TRUE Slytherin hero”. Like... wtf?? What Regulus did was extremely heroic and god bless him for doing that, but... y’all gotta stop comparing the most complicated Harry Potter character ever to a plot device.
Wait they’re right! Remember when Regulus Black defected Lord Voldemort and fought against him for years and was a spy for nearly two decades and sacrificed his entire life in the process and truly believed in the Order’s cause and saved the entire Wizarding World?
Me neither, that was Severus Snape. Read the fucking books.
It annoys me how they compare the most beautifully-written character ever to a fucking cardboard cutout 🤦♀️🤦♀️
“Those poor boys”
“She deserves to be punished too.”
“I’m not saying I support rape, but-”
“Sorry to say - she deserved it.”
“She put herself in harm’s way”
“But if she was fingered, then that’s not rape.”
“She ruined their lives.”
Do it. Wanna know why? BECAUSE YOU CAN
How would you all feel if I did a Wolfstar/Marauders through Hogwarts story? Kinda like “All the Young Dudes” except not as good XD, no one can beat all the young dudes MsKingBean89 is a literal genius. But how would you guys feel about that?
