Wow, this artist's work is studio ghibli level amazing. The use of simplistic forms to portray a highly detailed narrative; it really does "paint a picture" (story) in my mind. What a world they have created.

I read this quote attributed to you, but I can’t find what book or story it’s from. It sounds like something you’d write, but nothing I can find listing it’s text-source has made me skeptical. Can you help me place it?

“It’s not that they’re small, the fair folk. Especially not the queen of them all, Mab of the flashing eyes and the slow smile with lips that can conjure your heart under the hills for a hundred years. It’s not that they’re small. It’s that we’re so far away.”

It's pretty obscure -- it was from a set of very short stories I wrote to accompany Dave McKean postage stamps in the UK. It was reprinted (or printed if you didn't have the Royal Mail Fantasy Stamps booklet) in the Neil Gaiman Reader.

Anyone else think this looks like the home of a little woodland creature or the home of little Piglet in the hundred acre wood?

Just another reason to love apples.

APPLE: Malus Pumila

APPLE: Malus pumila

In Ireland, the apple is considered one of the foods of the dead; during Samhain apples are often piled on altars and graves, giving the festival the nickname ‘the feast of apples’. Before a funeral, a coffin may be lined with apple wood to restore youth in the afterlife. During Samhain, bobbing for apples is a common game to play; if you are to capture an apple, it is symbolic of being allowed to cross over to the island of Avalon and you will be blessed for a year. Incidentally, the name Avalon is considered to be of either Welsh, Cornish, or Breton origin, from avallen, meaning ‘fruit tree’ or the old Irish aball, meaning apple.

I remember having to memorize/recite this poem in middle school after reading The Outsiders.

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.
