What hurts the most was losing my daughter. You meant nothing in comparison.
Glass Barrier
My glass barrier hides my pain so that no one has to deal with it, and is almost impossible to break. Of course, it cracks and my emotions spill out some times, but only a few have completely shattered it and saw who I really am. Thank you to all who have done so, you have no idea how much I love you all
Molecular Porcelain
Bobby Jaber was a chemistry teacher who was always inspired by art. Now that he’s retired from the classroom, he’s an artist inspired by chemistry.
He molds porcelain clay into molecularly-inspired spheres reminiscent of Buckminsterfullerine (AKA ”C60”), perhaps the most beautiful molecule on Earth. His creations are often symbolic of famous people, places, and moments from the history of science, from Antikythera to Archimedes.
Here’s a short film of the artist at work, by Dave Altizer:
You can see more of Jaber’s chemical creations on his website, Porcelania.
What does chemistry inspire you to create?
0 = 1-1. What might it represent? That 1 and -1 add up to zero, of course. But that is interesting. Picture the reverse of the process: not 1 and -1 coming together to make 0, but 0 peeling apart, as it were, into 1 and -1. Where once you had Nothing, now you have two Somethings! Opposites of some kind, evidently. Positive and negative energy. Matter and antimatter. Yin and yang… ‘Opposites,’ [Peter Atkins] writes, ‘are distinguished by their direction of travel in time.’ In the absence of time, -1 and 1 cancel; they coalesce into zero. Time allows the two opposites to peel apart - and it is this peeling apart that, in turn, marks the emergence of time. It was thus, Atkins proposes, that the spontaneous creation of the universe got under way.
Jim Holt, Why Does the World Exist?
A principle of Zen philosophy distilled in the simplest of equations. Now that is poetry!

this game is bullshit, you have to go through a tutorial until level 18, and your stats start to go down after level 30 not to mention the romance mini-game is hard as fuck

New Quasi-Particle Found:
Mysterious Quantum ‘Dropletons’ Form Inside Semiconductors Shot With Lasers
by Adam Mann
By shooting a semiconductor with ultra-fast laser pulses, scientists have discovered a new quasiparticle that behaves like a drop of liquid. They describe it as a quantum droplet, and named it “dropleton.”
These things were not predicted under any theory and surprised scientists when they appeared unexpectedly in extremely low temperature semiconductor experiments. They have properties unlike anything seen before.
“At first we scratched our heads,” said physicist Steven Cundiff of the University of Colorado and National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, one of the authors of a paper appearing today in Nature. “But then we came up with this idea that what we were seeing was this new thing we’re calling a quantum droplet.”
Now before you start asking questions like, “What?” and “Huh?” we probably need to break things down a little here…
