Q&A: Bowynn Divination

QUESTION: Does the Bowynn faith have any forms of Divination practices, unique to the tradition?

ANSWER: Yes. While most of us consult various forms of divination (Tarot Cards, Runes and so on), we do have a specific form of sortilege unique to our tradition, which is a set of long flat wooded slates we call "Thellos" (made of apple wood). Each one has the name of the Bowynn gods on them. 7 of these slates are drawn, are laid out in a specific pattern and read, using the attributes of the gods, as they correspond to where they are laid out and if they intersect with another slate.

I cannot reveal that information to each slate, as it is for those of the Bowynn faith only.

Bowynn Gods: Huru

Huru  (Hu-Ru)  The Huruu are a Kii species that live in and guard holy and sylvanian places on earth, where the Akua will often visit. They are much like the Greek and Roman nymphs, in that they are mostly women. Most claim to have seen then as being human size, very lean and very fast. They shy away from humans entirely and want nothing to do with them. Any human found in such a Sylvanian place the Huru will chase away or punish, depending on the nature of the intrusion.

Bowynn Gods: Ortsall

Ortsal  (Or-tsal)  Ortsall is the God of the 3rd Gate of Daunnat and of eternal love and self love in the land of Daunnat.  Ortsal like the other gate guardians of Daunnat are the children of Chumash and Kalma. He is one of the older of the sacred seven gate keepers.

     As with all the gods of Daunnat, Ortsalt is not an evil god, nor a god of judgment.  His role is that of a guardian of Daunnat. He is the bestower of self love to spirits, as no spirit can enter Daunnat without this virtue. And he is also the god that units souls back together whe were in love and wed during their lifetime. However, it is common for the living to call to Ortsal who are suffering from the lack of love, but he is not the bestower of such love. These attributes are gifted from Brenda, Dhonnan, Shane and Onaur. As god of the Gate of Love, Odjett is one of the 7 gods of the sacred septagram. He sustains from visiting Alaway, instead preferring to live and feast with the spirits and other gods and souls in Daunnat.

     Ortsal has no known totem animal, instead always staying in his godly form. He is seen as a man black leather jerkin and purple tunic under that with silver trimmings. At times he is seen carrying a heptagram tile or a hunter’s horn, which is blown when he allows a soul past his gate. It is said by the god Brand, Ortsal bears long brown hair and something of a beard and moustache, giving him something of a fatherly look.

     Sacred to Odjett is the Septagram and riding blow horn. During funeral services, a bowl of milk is left to him, as customary and a statuette of the departed, so the god will recognize the departed’s soul, which is identical to his body.

Guardian of all, you who don armor yet wield your shield not in malice but in nurturing strength, I honor your presence as my guiding light. O Briathenaea, Great Protector, encircle me with your steadfast shield, granting me courage in the face of adversity. As you shielded our ancestors on their Great Migration, let your unwavering support guide me through the journeys of my life. Bestow upon me your wisdom, that I may forge my path with the strength of invention and the clarity of thought. In your name, I offer gratitude for the blessings of nature you bestowed upon us—the bounty of apple trees that nourish body and spirit. As you taught our forebears the art of cultivation, may the seeds I sow in my life flourish under your sacred guidance. May I harness the creativity that flows from you, crafting tools and words that serve the greater good.

O Divine Briathenaea, your sacred owl flies high in the sky, a symbol of your ever-watchful presence. When I find myself in need, may I see your reflection in its wise eyes, reminding me of your eternal support. QUESTION & ANSWER: Samhain/Halloween

QUESTION: Do Bowynn Celebrate Halloween and Samhain?

ANSWER: No, we do not celebrate the Keltic/Wiccan Samhain. We do celebrate Ky'Kora, which is a rather loose equivalent to Samahain. A three-day holiday from October 30 to November 1st. But that is about all Ky'Kora has in common with Samhain.

We do celebrate Halloween as a total separate holiday. But we celebrate it on November 1st, as the 31st is a most divine and holy day, set aside for spiritual worship.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: Language

QUESTION: I have seen you using various words in your posts that you address as being Bowynn. Is there an actual language?

ANSWER: Yes we have a language we have been using since the formation of the tradition. the Bowynn dictionary is around 25,000 (I stopped counting decades ago) words. It's has come to the point where it is a first language for some of use and a second language for others. Some words in the dictionary have no English counterpart.

The Vlenndra

The Vlenndra

The Vlenndra Devotional is a special act of praise that is done at the start of any religious act.  It is much like a Christian will draw a cross with their finger across their body as they chant "To the father...". The Vlenndra Devotional is a form of attunement with the spiritual. There is no true English word nor term for "Vlenndra." Though some have interrupt it to "devotional" but it is really so much more beyond that.

Before the start of any prayers, rite or magic spell, be it alone or with one's clan, the Vlenndra Devotional is performed. It is an opening to your prayers, a way of preparing oneself, a separation from what you were doing in your mundane time and your spiritual life. The Vlenndra act is sort of a key to unlocking a door to the divine world and a reminder of that which is holy. Many use the Vlenndra devotional by itself as a morning affirmation. The Vlenndra devotional need not be done at one's altar but anywhere: Facing the morning or setting sun, at the rise of the moon, over a meal, at a moment when things go wrong.

The Vlenndra devotional is simple in itself and yet within its simplicity, atones one with our faith. It is started by taking up a simple incense stick of any scent. When the tip glows, blow out the flame and let it smoke. Then in the air draw a septagram with the tip. As you do this, speak the following:

“By Earth, By Air,

By Fire, By Water,

By Soul, By Spirit,

By Bia.”

Finish each septagram off by encircling it. Done as a daily practice, this is repeated 3 times in total. However in some remote cases one may wish to do this as much as 7 and 9 times. A Myst {witch] will use the common 7 times before casting a spell, during a holiday or during a vigil, 9 times is the norm. After which the incense stick is placed in its holder. The Vlenndra Devotional is done. One should never rush through the Vlenndra. You should think about your actions, its words, what each of these elements mean to you, absorbing each element as you speak the Vlenndra and how you plan to incorporate them throughout your day.  At the same time, the devotional need not be done too slow either. The main thing is that when done, with the devotional you should feel spiritually attuned for moment.

BOWYNN GODS: VELLA

Vella (Vel-Lha)  Goddess of Jewelry, Gold and Silver Smithing. She is the daughter of Brea and Unthar and the sister of Panu. She is also the patroness of jewelers, jewel-smiths.

     No know sacred stories of Vella exist. All that is spoke of her is that she wed the God Gondor and lives with him, Kalen and Panu in a grand yet simple smithy deep in the sacred forests of Alaway, where she crafts gifts for mortals and immortals alike. For mortals, these gifts will appear as a strange find in some manner or another.

     Vella appears as young woman with black hair and light eyes. She wears simple clothes, as with those she resides with. His simple woven dress is said to be of an orange or rust color with yellow accents. In her hand she is said to hold pinchers or tongs. Sacred to Vella are all the tools a jeweler would use as well as gem stones, time pieces and or course incense.

Quatt  (Kwhat)  God of the 5th gate of Daunnat, of faith, in the land of Daunnat.  Quatt like the other Gate guardians of Daunnat are the children of Chumash and Kalma.

At times she is seen carrying a septagram tile and a horn which is blown when she allows a soul past her gate. Other times he holds a staff of ivory. It is said by the god Brand, Pedjed bears short brown hair and earthly green eyes.

     Sacred to Quatt is the Septagram and riding blow horn. During funeral services, a bowl of milk is left to her, as customary and a statuette of the departed, so the god will recognize the departed’s soul, which is identical to his body.
