BOWYNN GODS: SHAYLA

Shayla  (Shae-lah)  Shayla is the Bowynn goddess of the day and light. She is the creation of the Bia and her coming forth was the balance of Night and Darkness. She is the twin sister to Saul and sister to Daeth and Tora. Saul married his sister Shayl and their bore two daughters, Enya (Dawn) and Treya (Dusk). While Shayla is often seen with all the symbols and attributes of summer, she is a goddess of daytime year-round and is revered greatly in winter, when the days are shorter. Then again in summer, when days are longer

     While Shayla’s brother set out to defeat the cosmic lion that guarded Light, Shaya and her sister Tora where constantly bickering about bringing balance to the eternal darkness of heaven. This went on for generations, even after the earth was created. Finally, they consulted the great creator Bia. It was ruled that the two would hold a contest to see which element would rule over the other. The game was of dice. When the game to an end the two sisters were tied so Bia decreed that night, and day would be equal in length.

     Shayla is seen and depicted a glorious young woman glowing of radiant golden light. She is said to has a head of long golden hair and golden eyes, wearing a white dress. The pendant she wears holds the essence of the day. She crown is in the shape of a sunflower and her gown of silvery white. She is often seen with her twin brother Saul and their daughter Enya and in her hand a sunflower.

     Sunflowers are the most sacred symbol to Shayl and in summer her temples are greatly adorned with them. The goddess's totem animal is the canary and so votive images of canaries and yellow feathers are offered in abundance, as well is yellow and white candles.

O Abonna, Divine Patrons of the Arts, who dance and sing in the celestial halls, we invoke your joyous presence to inspire our hearts and elevate our spirits. Created by Brand and Kord, you ward off the shadows of Tii and guide us toward the light of creativity. In your youthful form, you embody the essence of music and movement, imbuing our lives with the beauty of song and dance. As we grasp our instruments and wield our brushes, may your heavenly whispers fill our hands, bringing forth the melodies and visions that dwell within our souls. Lark of the skies, grant us the grace to express our deepest emotions, that the artistry we create may resonate with all beings and celebrate the harmony of existence. O Abonna, ever-present and radiant, we honor you with our craft, now and forevermore.

Divine gods and spiritual children, celestial inspirations, you who breathed life into the instruments and the canvas, we pray to your radiant essence, to ignite the flame of creativity within our beings. You who danced with mortals during the sacred days, and imparted to them the secrets of rhythm and color, now we beseech you to grant us the gift of artistic expression. May your presence be our guide, as we strive to capture the essence of the world in all its beauty, and to convey the emotions that stir within our hearts. Let us not merely imitate the forms you have shown us, but rather, may our art be a reflection of your divine inspiration, an echo of the harmony that exists between the worlds and the beings that inhabit them. BOWYNN GODS: PEDJED

Pedjed  (Ped-jet)  (Sometimes "Pedjedd" and 'Pedjett') Goddess of the 7th Gate of Daunnat, of peace, in the land of Daunnat.  Pedjed like the other Gate guardians of Daunnat are the children of Chumash and Kalma.

     As with all the gods of Daunnat, Pedjed is not an evil goddess, nor a goddess of judgment.  Her role is that of a guardian of Daunnat. She is the bestower of self-love to spirits, as no spirit can enter Daunnat without this virtue. However, it is common for the living to call to Pedjed who are in need of eternal. As goddess of the Gate of Peace, Pedjed is one of the 7 gods of the sacred septagram. She sustains from visiting Alaway, instead preferring to live and feast with the spirits and other gods in Daunnat.

     Pedjed has no known totem animal, instead always staying in his godly form. She is seen as a motherly goddess dressed in a long green robe with white trimmings. At times she is seen carrying a septagram tile and a horn which is blown when she allows a soul past her gate. It is said by the god Brand, Pedjed bears long brown hair and earthly green eyes.

     Sacred to Pedjed is the Septagram and riding blow horn. During funeral services, a bowl of milk is left to her, as customary and a statuette of the departed, so the god will recognize the departed’s soul, which is identical to his body.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: Holy Book

QUESTION: Is there a type of holy book like a Bible or Koran in the Bowynn tradition?

ANSWER: Up until 2003 there was no such text, though many of us wrote down the information we had experienced and we would share it amongst each other. Eventually its was condenced into one binder that circulated between all of us. At the time we had 22 members strong. In late 2003 The Bowynn "Codex" was formed. It contains information on the gods, as well as all meditations, ceremonies, rituals and rites. The Codex is NOT a Myst's [witch's] book.

Hello! I stumbled upon your blog and found it very interesting! Do you know of any good sources to learn more about the Bowynn tradition?

Actually, I am probably the only source at present. the Bowynn Tradition was formed by my pagan group back in the 1980's. Sadly between my moving, Covid and host of other events within the last 10 years, our congregation disbanded. Since then I have people like yourself asking about it. So, I am using Tumblr to host a general guide to the faith and lifestyle.

You are welcome to ask me anything you wish. The Bowynn faith is "an open book" for anyone to explore."

BOWYNN GODS: RHYA

Rhya  (Ry-ah)  Queen of the gods and goddess of women’s rituals and psychics in the Bowynn pantheon. She is the daughter of Phoenix and Sumon and the sister of Kalma and Kauldra. When it comes to all things of feminine arts and persuasion, Rhya is the goddess to look to. She is the goddess that initiates girls into the temples when they are of age.

      In many ways Rhya is much like her Mediterranean counterparts Juno and Minerva, in that she is the queen of the holy family. But that’s where the similarity ends. Rhya is a most loving and devoted wife but also a motherly goddess, not just to her own children but to all of the Akua. Thus, Rhya is a patron of not just queens but mothers.

     The most epic tale of Rhya is that of her being wooed by Anhur. The handsome young go fell in love almost instantly. As did Anhur’s brothers fall for Rhya’s sisters. But Rhya refused to be taken in by fancy talk and demanded that Anhur show how much he loved her. Anhur brought Rhya the most glorious gifts from all over the earth. But each one Rhya turned down. This continued for a long time till the god was exalted and there were no other gifts on earth to bring Rhya. Finally, Anhur simply pledged his love, truly and unconditionally. This what Rhya was waiting to hear the whole time, and she accepted his hand in marriage.

     Rhya is seen in her immortal form as a well-formed woman of a motherly look. She has raven black hair that is crowned and veiled, depicting his queenly statue. Her garments are of pure white and silver. Other times it is of a lavender color and accented in some manner with a votive image of a peacock. During times where her presence is seen at weddings ceremonies, she is accompanied by the god Dhonan. Together they sanctify the couple being wed. Being that her totem is a peacock, she will take this form when in the presence of mortals. Sacred to her is the crown, staff and votive image of a peacock or its feathers.

Bowynn Gods: Briora

Briora  (Bry-or-rah)  The Briora are Kii (spirits, fairies, nymphs) of wisdom, organizers of books and protectors of buildings like libraries and other places where tomes of knowledge and records are kept. The Briora are diminutive spirits a lot like their European Fae cousins but do not bare wings at all. They take up residence in libraries among the books, where they indulge in reading, cleaning, maintaining and sorting books that are out of place. The Briora are the immortal essence of the term “A treasure in books.” In Bowynn libraries, images of the Briora and a shrine to them are kept. Most heavy readers will even places small images of Briora on their own bookshelves. Gifts to them are generally simple like a candle and incense. Even candy.
