I don’t understand Why Freddie left Jim such a small inheritance compared to Mary.
I’ve said this before but I think it had something to do with discovering that Jim also had AIDS. Freddie must have believed that Jim will last just as long as he did so he gave him just the right amount he believed that Jim would be okay with. Jim wasn’t greedy and materialistic like Mary, and Freddie knew him best. Jim didn’t need an extravagant mansion nor did he need a big ass fortune to know that Freddie loved him and cared about him (£500,000 was equivalent to $1,000,000 at the time so that’s still pretty big). Plus, they had a house built in Ireland and perhaps Freddie assumed that’s where Jim would want to live once he’s gone– to his motherland.
If he had given everything to Jim, then Jim would have been left with the spotlight on him and they both knew he didn’t like that much attention– especially when their relationship wouldn’t have been as widely accepted as it does today. That’s why Freddie used to have Mary by his side during public events instead of Jim because he knew Mary was used to the spotlight (loved it, even). It’s a possibility that Freddie didn’t want to burden Jim since he allegedly told Mary that the inheritance will put a lot of pressure on her. He cared too much about Jim to make him go through that.
It’s also possible that Freddie had hoped that Jim, Joe, Peter, Mary and her kids will live at Garden Lodge like one big happy family (because that’s what they were). He most likely didn’t think Mary would treat them like that. He wouldn’t have left her with that much if he did.
When Jim was asked whether or not he felt betrayed by the small fortune Freddie left him with compared to Mary’s, he said: “No, I feel betrayed by the people he left in charge of carrying out his wishes.”
Freddie: [is sad]
John [begins disco dancing gently]: What’s wrong, mate?
Brian: I mean, small creatures are way more vicious. it’s because their anger has less space to be bottled up in.
Freddie: ridiculous. give me examples of this.
Brian: spiders.
John: wasps.
Brian: Roger

Some of you have never killed a man, put a gun against his head, pulled the trigger now he’s dead, and it shows.
