another depressing tik tok interaction that proves yet again that transandrophobia and transmisogyny are intertwined. i commented on a post and said that people had started treating me poorly since i started transitioning and that i’d lost friends, and someone commented and said i shouldn’t be mad about that. that i shouldn’t be expecting people to treat me “like a woman”, that i should expect cis women to treat me poorly because there’s just no way they could tell me (a non passing and openly trans man) apart from a cis man, so i should expect them to treat me like a predator, and if i wasn’t okay with that i “shouldn’t be transitioning.” i asked if they thought this was true for trans women who cis women assume are men, and they said yes. they said trans women who don’t pass to cis women should expect to be treated like a predator because of cis women’s trauma with men. and the most horrifying thing is this person was allegedly another trans person.

this is what happens when you convince cis (particularly white) women that everyone is out to get them. it’s not white cis men who are affected. it’s men of color who cis women decide are scary and dangerous. it’s trans women and men who cis women decide are predatory. it’s intersex people who cis women can’t immediately gender and are therefore threatened by. it’s autistic men who cis women decide are aggressive and threatening. this has to stop bc it’s getting people hurt and killed.

I heard this metaphor growing up, and in my case, it backfired supremely, because I went out into my neighbor’s backyard where a rose bush was growing, and the one I tested had like 30 petals (it was yellow, but definitely a rose of some kind), and as a very logical lass, I came to the conclusion that you could have premarital sex AT LEAST ten times before your future husband would even notice something was up. Moral of the story? Test your metaphors on the weirdest and most neurodivergent child you know before writing your weird religious propaganda.

hate incidents against elderly East & Southeast Asians have skyrocketed recently, especially in the Bay Area (article) (thread) . here are some:

an 85 year old Thai man, Vicha Ratanapakdee, was tackled to the ground and murdered in SF

an assailant pushed down a 91 year old Asian man, followed by 2 other elderly men and women, in oakland

a 52 year old Asian-American woman was shot in the head with a flare gun 

there have been over 20 assaults and robberies in Oakland’s Chinatown targeted towards the elderly in the past 2 weeks

a 61 year old Filipino man’s face was slashed on the subway in nyc & no one assisted him

a Vietnamese community center burned down in oakland

this is not new – since the pandemic began, attacks on Asian-Americans have spiked:

an 89 year old Asian woman in brooklyn was set on fire in July

an Asian woman in brooklyn was doused in acid in April while she was taking out her trash

almost 3000 hate incidents against Asian-Americans were reported from march to the end of 2020 (keep in mind, most incidents are unreported)

this is what happens when white supremacists refer to the coronavirus as the “china virus” & “kung flu” and promote rhetoric that harms Asian communities. today is the start of lunar new year celebrations & attacks are expected to increase. as a response, local governments across the us have stationed increased police presence in chinatowns, but a white supremacist police system, which will not protect our elders and will also threaten Black lives and safety, is not the solution. most Asians are unwilling to report hate incidents because we do not believe police will help, and last week, police shot and killed Christian Hall, a 19 year old Chinese-American, during a mental health crisis. we can’t accept tactics that uphold white supremacy. what we need is aid for our communities:

lunar new year is our biggest celebration & is supposed to be a time of joy and family, but due to white supremacy & xenophobia, our communities are hurting. it is incredibly painful to see our elders – who our cultures place a huge amount of respect and reverence on, and who often don’t even tell their families about these hate incidents because they don’t want them to worry – being targeted in this way. please donate if you can & spread whatever resources you come across. i will update this post with more links as i find them.

No, a tech company shutting down access to their API by forcing third-party devs to pay completely unreasonable fees ($12,000 per 50 million API requests, which to the largest third party clients would be tens of millions of dollars) and in the process destroying both accessibility apps and moderation tools is Bad Actually

I just saw the weirdest ad on YouTube. I thought it was for a new WWII video game, but it didn’t seem to be selling anything - it looked like some kind of weird pro-Poland propaganda and just said “Poland did a lot to save the Jews” and then ended with a hashtag about Germany.

What… what did I just watch, and why was it on a YouTube video about sea slugs in America?
