“JKR didn’t start out like this she was radicalized!”

She, like most fascists, started out with antisemitism. It’s obvious in the HP series. It’s obvious in the Goblins. It’s obvious in how she treated the Deathly Hollows symbol (specifically with Mr. Lovegood’s casual wearing of the symbol, despite it being a symbol for a genocide)

Despite the diversity that is within the UK, most of the students at Hogwarts are implied white, British, and Christian. The exceptions being the Patel twins and Cho Chang. 2 of which were the last ditch dates for our Love Struck Heros and were treated horribly, 1 of whom has two different last names and is generally treated horribly by the narrative. Our resident Irish family has “too many kids” and is poor with little social mobility. Welsh students? Where? Scots? 1 Scottish professor in a Scottish school. Black? Only in the movies, and even then subject to change if they happen to become a main character’s love interest (See: Lavender Brown). Oh and don’t forget the House slaves Elves!

Queer characters? Word of G-d we have one gay character and a horrid metaphor for the AIDs epidemic.

My point? Despite the fact that her books managed to radicalize a good portion of her audience, that was a happy accident. We were a happy accident who took the class metaphor she wanted us to see and RAN with it into social justice to fight for anyone who was being oppressed. Because We made the connections for ourselves.

JKR was never progressive. She was a bigoted Centrist at best.

She might not have started out radicalized but she was sure as hell an easy target. Because she was already bigoted in other ways. Being openly transphobic is just one of the more acceptable ways to be a bigot amongst “feminists” in Britain.

No but when JKR was being casually antisemitic on twitter and homophobic with her reveal that lycanthopy was an AIDS allegory, how was that not the creator of a bigoted media coming through in the media she produced? How do you separate the content from the creator when the creator defends her choice to include racist, antisemetic, homophobic and transphobic content in her media? Like you hp fans are doing gymnastics to justify your love for a franchise that at its core has always been flawed and you just shrug that off. You just hand-wave it away and say "separate the art from the artist" but the art is flawed and the artist has defended those flaws. So where does the separation happen when the artist admits to purposely being cruel?

Not a single HP fan can answer this btw because you'll all circle back to "B-b-b-but the art can be sEpArAtEd". None of you have any argument that deals in real life material affects.

The facts are that the HP series is riddled with bigotry and JKR has fought tooth and nail to justify that bigotry. JKR is a Terf (trans exclusionary radical feminist) and has included transmisogyny and casual transphobia in the books since the first book. JKR has taken her fame (from continued public support of HP) and hatred of trans women and used it to get laws in the UK passed that endanger the lives of trans people, specifically trans women and tried to get laws passed in the US. JKR has also written a new violently transmisogynistic book.

No matter how much you try to separate a series filled with bigotry from the bigot that wrote it, you're going to fail. And you want to know why? Because art does not spawn from no where. Art is not made in a vacuum. Art is not some mystical power that comes to some people in the night. Art is a product of the people that create it and if the person who creates the art is a bigot that bigotry with always shine through. People create based on what they know and what they believe to be true.

- He came out for like the fourth time

- Amadello wore matching outfits like the adorable husbands they are

- Blanco and Mahmood gave me chills

it's hard to be the coolest cousin who is mentally ill, touch starved, annoying and reads a lot, has the best fashion sense and an unstable obsession with swords, fictional characters and always have the best comebacks, cries a lot, is always yearning and is the family failure but someone has to do it and that someone is me

Is it safe to use a ouija board in a graveyard if it is to ask Oscar Wilde for fashion advice?

Where are the gods in this?

They’re here. They have never left.

Artemis guards the children, those hunting their next meal through the school closings and uncertainty.

Hephaestus protects the immunicompromised and those with disabilities, shielding them as best he can.

Zeus stands with the elderly, easing their loneliness and brightening the rain clouds.

Apollo walks through the halls of hospitals, healing those he can, and Hera blesses the couples self-isolating separately.

Aphrodite comforts those who have lost loved ones, while Hades welcomes the lost with open arms to the underworld.

Athena pushes governments to action, driving whatever change she can, and Poseidon fosters international collaboration, refusing to let the ocean get in the way of human compassion.

Hermes still smiles, finding ways to joke in the midst of fear and bringing good news when it surfaces, and Dionysus calms those who refuse to hear the good, easing their minds and bringing balance to those caught up in panic buying and selfishness.

Hestia works within the home, while Ares works outside of it, offering stamina and fortitude to those overworked, be them retail workers, doctors, or teachers. Hestia eases self-quarantines, soothing the anxiety that staying at home may bring and reminding us all to work together.

And Persephone still walks the earth, bringing springtime with her and showing us that the world keeps turning, and that despite the fear of uncertainty, everything is going to be ok.
