there is nothing cool or sexy about kylo ren he literally fucking sucks. like yeah anakin was also a homicidal facist but the difference is anakin was camp. he was hot while doing it. he had the dramatic flair. he’s badass. he’s intimidating. he’s the most iconic movie villain of all time. kyle is literally just an emo neo nazi. there is zilch that is interesting about his character. sorry for speaking the truth

Alr, so this is just expressing my thoughts after reading It's a Good Life by Jerome Bixby, as well as after watching an in depth analysis on it.

Honestly, I really really enjoyed this short story, especially as it is in the cosmic horror genre (absolutely one of my favorite genres).

Now, this is the message that I interpreted from the story:

I think there comes a fear in being unable to live. A fear in not being allowed to live. A fear in trying to make the conscious decision to live. And yet what do we do? Often, we take this conscious decision in our daily lives ‐ and we face this fear - knowing that, although unspeakable horrors may yet lie in the ineffable (or something we know and are unable to explain its ineffable consequences), our lives are good because we exist, and even if we're seen as the "bad man" (quote from the story; it could represent a multitude of things, but i see it, in the context of the story, the want to be able to express one's own individualustic desires, thoughts, and creativity), our 'rebellion' from this absurdity is what makes us ultimately human.

yeah looking back on my interpretation, it's definitely absurdist, but hey, absurdism is one of my favorite philosophies, so I'm not complaining!

Anyway, please go read this short story, it soooooooo sooo good it's such a well-written story.

He Has A Question

He Has A Question

During the most poor and homeless period of my life, I had a lot of people get angry with me because I spent $25 on Bath and Body Works candles during a sale. They couldn’t comprehend why the hell I would do that when I had been fighting for months to try and get us on our feet, afford food, and have an apartment to live in.

Those candles were placed beside wherever I slept that night. In the morning, I would move them and set them wherever I’d have to hang out. At one point I carried one around in my purse - one of those big honking 3-wick candles. I never lit them, but I’d open them and smell them a lot.

I credit that purchase with a lot of my drive that got me to where I am today. I had been working tirelessly, 15+ hour days with barely any reward, constantly on the phone or trying to deal with organizations and associations to “get help at”. It’d gone on for almost a year by the end of it, and I was so burnt out, to the point that I would shake 24/7. But I could get a bit of relief from my 3-wick “upper middle class lifestyle” candles. They represented my future goals, my home I wanted to decorate, and how I would one day not be in this mess anymore.

When we moved into the apartment, and our financial status improved, I burned those candles every single day. When they were empty, I cleaned them out, stuck labels on them, and they became the starting point of my really cute organization system I had ALWAYS planned to have.

So whenever I hear about someone very poor getting themselves a treat - maybe it’s Starbucks, maybe it’s a home deco item, maybe it’s a video game… I don’t judge them. I get it. I get that you can’t go without anything for that long without it making you go crazy. You need to pull some joy, inspiration, and motivation from somewhere.

French erosion

The French word diner (to dine) comes from Popular Latin *disjējūnāre (to stop fasting). This word lost three of its syllables, the result of a strong degree of erosion that can be seen in many French words. Click the video to hear how eight Latin words eroded on their way to French.

If you like this post, I'll make a second video like this, with another eight words. On my Patreon, I explain how the Latin words changed so much in French, discussing the perfectly regular sound shifts that, for example, turned *aetāticum into âge. 800 words; link in bio.

And what about déjeuner (to eat breakfast)? Is it the same verb? Yes and no. It was formed later, in Old French, being a combination of des- (now dé-) and jeüner, the verb that descended from Latin jējūnāre without the prefix dis-.

French verbs: all about stress

When learning French, I loved the verbs parler ('to talk') and aimer ('to love') because they were entirely regular. A thousand years ago, I wouldn't have been that happy. At that time, parler was irregular too: people said il/ele parole, not il/elle parle. And it wasn't aimer but amer, yet il/ele aime. Many more verbs that are now perfectly regular, used to have two different stems.

Click the video to hear a selection of these verbs evolve.

These irregularities were due to the regular sound changes that turned Latin into Old French. In Latin, word stress was different in the infinitive than in the third person, as indicated with an underline in the video. This stress difference had consequences for how the vowels developed:

a-MA-re > a-MER

A-mat > AI-me

On my Patreon (tier 1), I tell all about this phenomenon: how it affected vowels in a predictable way, the patterns that emerged (with a discussion of all of the forms in the video), and how the alternations were eventually eliminated. 1500 words, link in bio.

Sorry for posting late. In was busy with school work. School starts in 2 days and I had to finish my summer assignments. I'm cooked.

Anyways, this is a scroll. In my opinion, this looks disgusting (which is kind of what I was going for, but i dont really like this). By the way, the green bar is supposed to represent mana or something like that, and the red is supposded to be health. I got that idea from a friend, and it kind of works I guess.

Also, the text on the scroll is Minecraft Enchantment Table, so try to translate it you feel like it (it's cringe). I also got this idea from the same friend.
