Being a girl is: wanting to go to bed early but deciding to just get on tumblr/wattpad/Ao3 for a little bit and then end up finding a fic series that you really like and read until well past your usual bedtime then keeping on because it’s already past your bedtime. what little fight there was in your clenched fists and irritable legs saps from you, and you bury your face in the lapels of the man’s jacket. you don’t know him, and your parents always told you to be mindful of strangers, but - they’re not saying anything now, where they lie, dusted in grey. so you let the man leave out the front door with you in his arms, head tucked as tears run down your cheeks just as the lilt of sirens becomes crisp in the distance, just as the blinking red-blue lights whirl round the corner, and you’re gone.
