The rich don’t work more, they are given more.

A common narrative among the wealthy is that they earned their wealth by working harder, and that everyone else is just lazy.

image

The problem with this narrative is that it’s simply false, the wealthy are almost always born wealthy, and then stay wealthy for the rest of their lives. This is regardless of how much work or effort they do, and is usually propped up by their own family. For example, its said that America is the “land of opportunity” and that anyone can become anything, but looking at college education its easy to see that the more wealthy your parents are, the more likely it is for you to have an education.

image

This data is the norm, but people like to cite examples that show people that are wealthy, but didn’t have wealthy parents, or didn’t have a great education. These examples such as Bill Gates are statistical anomalies, and are not usually the case for most people. In reality the wealth of someones parents are a great way to determine how much money their children will make.

image

From these we can see that people who are born wealthy are far more likely to make more, and get a better education than those born poor, but their advantages don’t stop there. Politicians, business leaders, and the media always propose that the way to make everyone richer, is to decrease the amount the poor get in assistance, and increase the amount the wealthy get.

image

From this we can see not only do the wealthy get advantages from being born wealthy, but they also are given incentives and benefits that allow them to stay wealthy. This isn’t surprising seeing that the wealthy are the ones who fund politicians, and own news media that presents these ideas, that somehow the wealthy “earned” all that they have.

image

From all of this it can be seen that the wealthy don’t “earn” their wealth, but instead inherit and accumulate wealth from being born wealthy. The entire idea of social mobility being a guarantee under capitalism is a myth that is said to make people complacent, so they don’t know that they actually have little control over their lives.

(Hey, please remember to reblog this to help spread the word; also I have a Discord server link in the blog description that’s open to all socialists, have a great day comrades!)

throughout history it has been a man’s job to provi..

no, throughout history men have actively prevented the independence of women, they have actively prevented our mobility, rights to an education, and livable income. they’ve abused our reproductive capability and passed us around like properties, they’ve used religion to rationalize their hatred of us, and to put us in a place of subordination. so y’all can shut the fuck up about men being “providers” like it was some benevolent gesture, in an attempt to rationalize sexism.

I REALLY fucking hate the stereotype that Canadians are so nice and passive and apologetic about everything. The stereotype is more than just irksome to me; it’s damaging. It disregards the ugly realities of racism throughout the country, particularly towards Aboriginal people.

I have witnessed way too much racism in this country to find the “nice Canadian” stereotype cute. The number of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls in my city alone is horrifying. The abuse and flat-out hatred is grotesque.

Here in Canada, people are really good at not giving a shit about the well-being of another human being if that person happens to be Aboriginal. Here in Canada, people are so well-armed with their assumptions and stereotypes that they can’t even bother to see Aboriginal people as HUMAN.

So no. Canada is not a magical land where everyone loves each other and says sorry constantly. That stereotype is insulting to every Aboriginal woman who is assaulted, goes missing, and/or is murdered. It’s insulting to the families of those missing and murdered women who seek justice and answers that they will never receive, simply because non-Aboriginal Canadians don’t give a damn.

As always I wish a lot more feminists recognised that reproductive rights is not only about the right to not have children, but also the right to have children

Access to abortion is important, but so is fighting forced sterilisation, which almost always targets marginalised groups, especially disabled women, trans women, poor women and women of colour (and lets not pretend that doesn’t factor into why the issue is looked over by more privileged feminists)

They are both issues of reproductive rights and bodily autonomy and you can not have one without the other
