I think the way ruin and rising ends is really beautiful. Just hear me out lmao-
"They had an ordinary life, full of ordinary things—if love can ever be called that." is such a gentle, peaceful ending. Yes, alina is a very strong character who should've gotten a life filled with more adventures. But in the end, she got to build something that meant the world to her. She got a quiet life after all the fighting and war was over. She deserved it. It's a realistic ending, because sometimes characters choose to rest and be happy and that's okay :).
DARKLINA RIGHTS THOUGH SMH
When Baghra said "Know that I loved you, Know that it wasn't enough." to her son before she died. That was true pain.

“And yet my heart is buried with you in the strange soil of the mortal world, as it was drowned with you in the cold waters of the undersea. It was yours before I could ever admit it, and yours it shall ever remain.”
~ Cardan's letters to Jude

“And you think it was sunrise I was waiting for and not my queen. Do you not hear her footfalls? She has never quite managed the trick of hiding them as well as one of the Folk. Surely you've heard of her, Jude Duarte, who defeated the redcap Grima Mog, who brought the Court of Teeth to their knees? She's forever getting me out of scrapes. Truly, I don't know what I would do without her.”

“Above me is the same silvery moon that shines down on you. Looking at it makes me recall the glint of your blade pressed against my throat and other romantic moments.”
~Cardan's letters to Jude
“We say like calls to like, girl. But if the science is small enough, then we are like all things. The light lives in the spaces between. It is there in the soil of that mountain, in the rock and in the snow. The Cut is already made.”
~ Leigh Bardugo, Ruin and Rising
“I … I don’t understand half of what goes on around me. I don’t get jokes or sunsets or poetry, but I know metal.” His fingers flexed unconsciously as if he were physically grasping for words. “Beauty was your armor. Fragile stuff, all show. But what’s inside you? That’s steel. It’s brave and unbreakable. And it doesn’t need fixing.”
~Leigh Bardugo, Ruin and Rising
Can we talk about how strong a character GENYA SAFIN is !!!
The part where she confesses poisoning the king and how the poison she made would take away years that he would never get back, how she POISONED HER OWN SKIN SO EVERY TIME HE TOUCHED HER HE WAS CONSUMING THE POISON and then so it wouldn't harm her, SHE BURNT IT OFF HER SKIN and then tailored herself. Genya Safin superiority>>>>
When I read the "I am not ruined, I am ruination." I got chills.
When I was reading the part where Alina does that vision-mind travel-connection thing with the Darkling for the first time I was like ugh this is gonna be the same old him making her feel stupid but DAMN
The "You might make me a better man." "And you might make me a monster." !!!! The "We would be equals till the day I dared to disagree with you." !!!! The "You are stronger, wiser, infinite in experience...But I am an apt pupil." !!!!!
Imagining that conversion happening in the show.
Brb screaming into the void.
"You’re mad,” I said. “You know what he can do. No prize is worth that.”
Sturmhond grinned. “That remains to be seen.”
“The Darkling will hunt you for the rest of your days.”
“Then you and I will have something in common, won’t we? Besides, I like to have powerful enemies. Makes me feel important.”
Mal crossed his arms and considered the privateer. “I can’t decide if you’re crazy or stupid.”
“I have so many good qualities,” Sturmhond said. “It can be hard to choose.”
~Leigh Bardugo, Siege & Storm
He’s definitely not thinking about Henry.
He’s not thinking about Henry when he puts in twenty-three hours in his first week of work, or when he’s filling the rest of his hours with class and papers and going for long runs and drinking triple-shot coffees and poking around the Senate offices. He’s not thinking about Henry in the shower or at night, alone and wide awake in his bed.
Except for when he is. Which is always.

“I’d date more, probably, as well.”
Alex can’t help laughing again. “Right, because it’s so hard to get a date when you’re a prince.” Henry cuts his eyes back down to Alex. “You’d be surprised.” “How? You’re not exactly lacking for options.” Henry keeps looking at him, holding his gaze for two seconds too long. “The options I’d like…” he says, dragging the words out. “They don’t quite seem to be options at all.”
Alex blinks. “What?”
“I’m saying that I have … people … who interest me,” Henry says, turning his body toward Alex now, “But I shouldn’t pursue them. At least not in my position.” Are they too drunk to communicate in English? He wonders distantly if Henry knows any Spanish.
“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about,” Alex says.
“You don’t?” “No.”
“You really don’t?” “I really, really don’t.”
Henry’s whole face grimaces in frustration, his eyes casting skyward like they’re searching for help from an uncaring universe. “Christ, you are as thick as it gets,” he says, and he grabs Alex’s face in both hands and kisses him.

Don't read the last page
But I stay when it's hard or it's wrong or you're making mistakes
I want your midnights
But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day
Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you.

Will probably watch the shadow and bone trailer for the 17th time for some, you know...serotonin :)
“No man is worth more than another, wherever he is from.”
“But what if he is your friend?” Achilles had asked him. “Or your brother? Should you treat him the same as a stranger?” “You ask a question that philosophers argue over,” Chiron had said. “He is worth more to you, perhaps. But the stranger is someone else’s friend and brother. So which life is more important?”
We had been silent. We were fourteen, and these things were too hard for us. Now that we are twenty-seven, they still feel too hard. He is half of my soul, as the poets say.
He will be dead soon, and his honor is all that will remain. It is his child, his dearest self. Should I reproach him for it?
I know, now, how I would answer Chiron. I would say: there is no answer. Whichever you choose, you are wrong.
~The Song of Achilles
I was craftier with my observation, kept my head down and my eyes ready to leap away. But he was craftier still. At least once a dinner he would turn and catch me before I could feign indifference. Those seconds, half seconds, that the line of our gaze connected, were the only moment in my day that I felt anything at all. The sudden swoop of my stomach, the coursing anger. I was like a fish eyeing the hook.
~Patroclus, The Song Of Achilles
But wasn’t that what every girl dreamed? That she’d wake and find herself a princess? Or blessed with magical powers and a grand destiny? Maybe there were people who lived those lives. Maybe this girl was one of them. But what about the rest of us? What about the nobodies and the nothings, the invisible girls? We learn to hold our heads as if we wear crowns. We learn to wring magic from the ordinary. That was how you survived when you weren’t chosen, when there was no royal blood in your veins. When the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway.
Inej Ghafa, The Crooked Kingdom
“Crows remember human faces. They remember the people who feed them, who are kind to them. And the people who wrong them too.”
“Really?”
He nodded slowly. “They don’t forget. They tell each other who to look after and who to watch out for."
~ Kaz Brekker, The Crooked Kingdom.
Had she really thought the world didn’t change? She was a fool. The world was made of miracles, unexpected earthquakes, storms that came from nowhere and might reshape a continent. The boy beside her. The future before her. Anything was possible.
Leigh Bardugo, The Crooked KIngdom.

“It’s you I love,” he says. “I spent much of my life guarding my heart. I guarded it so well that I could behave as though I didn’t have one at all. Even now, it is a shabby, worm-eaten, and scabrous thing. But it is yours.” He walks to the door to the royal chambers, as though to end the conversation. “You probably guessed as much,” he says. “But just in case you didn’t.”
~Cardan Greenbriar, The Queen of Nothing
I stare at her. “And you’re giving me this warning out of the kindness of your heart?”
She smiles. “I am giving you this warning because it doesn’t matter. You’re already doomed, Queen of Elfhame. You already love him. You already loved him when you questioned me about him instead of your own mother. And you will still love him, mortal girl, long after his feelings evaporate like morning dew.”
~ The Queen of Nothing, Holly Black.
“Jude, you can’t really think I don’t know it’s you. I knew you from the moment you walked into the brugh.”
~ The Queen of Nothing
Many boys will bring you flowers. But some day you'll meet a boy who'll learn your favourite flower, your favourite song, your favourite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won't matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart.
~Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows.
So I'll go back to L.A. and the so-called friends
Who'll write books about me, if I ever make it
And wonder about the only soul who can tell which smiles I'm fakin'
And the heart I know I'm breakin' is my own.
