im still alive. barely. have some pauls.
I’m sorry I usually rag on Beatles Reddit but this tale of Paul in the wild is sending me
lads i just found out about 'monkee business the musical' yesterday morning after just waking up. out there SOMEWHERE must exist a full recording. surely. if we work together we can find it
So The Chaperone is my fav ep in part because of the Dolenzmith undercurrents of Mike seeming pretty smitten/teasing the whole ep
But I also like it because it feels like homage to Some Like it Hot...and is still Dolenzmithy in the way it does that:
-Musician(s) needing to dress up as women
-Micky having a similar outfit/style that Jerry/Daphne has at one point
Also having a similar personality of being a rough-around-the-edges 'for a lady' kind of 'girl' that makes the rich older man obsessed.
-Notable: this sparkly-dress is also the outfit both get engaged in.
-also notable that both specifically call the respective older man 'fresh' at least once for making physical advances.
so the DIFFERENCE?
At the end, with the potential happily ever after-- Jerry calls into question sailing off together. He rips off his own wig and declares he's a man. Osgood doesn't give a fuck and they potentially stay married, rich and happy.
Meanwhile, the one who puts a stop to Micky's 'sailing away together' daydream is Mike saying 'Micky will you please tell him?'
And it's Vandenberg who rips off Micky's wig.
And Mike who Micky's with after the 'reveal'.
Like okay.
After a while, it became very apparent that he was very, very frustrated. I backed him up because he was my partner. Peter was also frustrated. He wasn’t getting to sing and play and write stuff as much as he would have liked. David probably wasn’t as concerned. But even though I wasn’t a songwriter, I would have commiserated and I would have supported him.
Interesting word choice, my dear.
It certainly doesn't mean business partner because there were four of them and he mentions Peter separately.
So, what exactly did you mean by "partner" Mick?
me: hm why do we give mike a lot of trauma ?
mike: flinches at everything
From the heart of unimaginable suffering, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported my family 🙏🏻
Right now, famine is hitting us harder than ever, my heart cries whenever I go to the market to buy any basic necessities! The prices are crazy, and most days my children survive on just bread Hunger and thirst are destroying us, and cooking on fire increases our suffering unbearably! Severe eye and chest sensitivity, in addition to constant stomach pain due to the type of food and the way it is cooked.
All this while we flee from one place to another in fear of bombing, bullets, and imminent danger! I cannot describe what I feel, but it is a feeling beyond exhaustion!
Despite the exhaustion, your support gives us strength and I hope you will not let us down
If you can donate, please do so, or at least help us by sharing, so we can reach those who can Your kindness truly keeps us going

Peter Tork and I.J. Jefferson during the filming of Head, February 1968.
In London in January 1968, Peter was interviewed by the British press, and had this to say “about The Monkees as a group”:
“I wouldn’t like to say whether we as a group could outlive the TV series. I can’t visualize myself as anything but a Monkee right now. Micky is a very good friend of mine and Davy and I share a very deep bond of understanding. We probably understand each other more than anyone understands us. And Mike is the complete opposite to me except that we share the same religious beliefs — something I find very difficult to understand.” - Disc & Music Echo, January 13, 1968
* * * Peter Tork: “We did decide to do a movie, and we wanted to do a movie that was not a — not another episode. I’d seen, you know, movies made from TV series, and all they did was just expand the episode. And we said, ‘Well, let’s not do that.’ So we didn’t. Ah, and the movie died. (laughs)” Q: “You know, it was a good movie.” PT: “I thought so, yeah.” Q: “It does well in rentals.” PT: “Yeah.” Q1: “People go to rent it. Why did nobody go to see it in ‘69?” PT: “It was so terribly promoted. It was promoted as a hippie, head movie to the teeny-boppers and as a teeny-bopper to the heads, and so nobody got it. It was just, it was all badly marketed. And I, I think the producers were upset with us personally because we were beginning to act like… (chuckles) you know, there’s always this problem when your children start acting like, like they… they, you know, know who they are, it’s always conflict with your, with the adults. And they actually had, the producers actually didn’t like us growing up, I think. I mean, they were conflicted, they had their Geppetto complex.” - GOLD 104.5, 1999

As for the scene pictured here:
“All four of us jump off a bridge. There’s a long sequence of us falling into the water. We hit the water and get carried away by mermaids, and this thing called ‘The Porpoise Song’ comes on. After a while it suddenly seems like we have been looking through a fish tank, and on the other side is this very, very pretty woman who kisses each one of us. When the woman kisses Mike, he whispers to her, ‘How about you and me ditching these guys and going out together?’ She looks at him and says, ‘Are you kidding?’ and walks off.” - Peter Tork, When The Music Mattered (1984)
