gomez wants to play with toy trains and likes to stay home and be a hands-on parent with his kids, and that’s fine. morticia likes playing with crossbows and swords and being open with her sexuality and is totally confident in her own skin, and that’s fine. wednesday wants to grow up to entrance men with her womanly charms and dance naked in the town square, and her parents are like, “cool. just go to college and get an education first.” even when their son briefly seems to be “normal,” gomez and morticia are confused and don’t quite know how to handle it, but they adjust and try to encourage his interests and still treat him as well as they do their other children.

they’re just totally fine with going against societal norms and breaking traditional family roles, and it never even occurs to them to care what other people think. they’re happy being themselves and that’s what counts. and they never directly judge anyone else for being themselves either. they’re always friendly to their neighbors and are totally accepting towards a “normal” woman that cousin itt marries, treating her like a part of the family right away.

Unlike vegan fur and leather, which is just plastic and causes horrific amounts of pollution, real fur and leather lasts a lot longer, meaning it can be reused for years, and it’s biodegradable when it’s no longer usable. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wearing fur or leather that comes from a farm like a mink farm or is gathered through ethical, legal hunting.

So really, the only thing that makes Cruella de Vil a villain is the fact she wanted to make a fur coat out of puppies. If she had done something like went to Australia and had two, three, maybe even a few hundred fur coats made out of the wild rabbit population, which is an invasive, non-native species doing harm to the environment over there, she’d be a hero.

I did that thing where I was checking out a wip I haven’t touched in a long while, and before I knew it I was really sucked in and just reading it and enjoying it, and then it just fucking ended abruptly during a good scene and I nearly started screaming, and then I remembered it’s my own fucking wip and that means I have to be the one to fix this and finish it and I really really nearly started screaming and just asdfghjkl

i think when someone does somethin problematic, better to look at it in the wider context of their other actions before condemning them for it. i think people’s actions overall outweigh their behaviour in a single moment. if i know someone is doing the work, donating, attending rallies, apologising when they mess up, supporting lgbt/black folk/poc financially, physically, socially, putting their money where their mouth is, etc. then i don’t really care if they’ve messed up in a moment or two (with relatively minor stuff) cos they’re clearly the type of person that’ll learn from it. maybe it’s a controversial opinion, and i’m not saying ppl shouldn’t be held accountable for their mistakes that can potentially harm others, but better to judge a bitch on their accumulated actions than their behaviour in a single moment. 

When are we going to talk about how utterly over the top and ridiculous neurotypical advice for ADHD and sleep is?? It’s straight up fucking bonkers. 

Someone with ADHD: I really really struggle to fall asleep at “regualr times”, no matter how tired I am I just can’t seem to fall asleep at 10 pm!!! But I almost instantly fall asleep any time after 2 am. What should I do?

NT sleep advice: You, someone who cannot conceptualize time in any way whatsoever, need to identify TWO HOURS in advance when you want to sleep and, with your executive dysfunction that makes making decisions at will almost straight up impossible, make the decision to stop whatever you’re involuntarily hyperfixating on. Then, you, with a focus disorder that makes it so that you have to be doing something at all times, sit and do nothing for 2 hours. You cannot read. You cannot be on your phone. Do not move. Do not talk to people. Just sit and do nothing. If you can’t fall asleep it’s because you Did Something and it’s your fault. Bluelight 24 hours before you want to sleep is the reason. Never look at a TV, Phone, computer, OR let one of these objects be within a 24,000 mile radius of you. Never ever go NEAR your bed unless you’re already asleep. If you are AWAKE in your bedroom ever you will not be able to sleep. 

ADHD Sleep Advice: Get a job that starts at 2 pm or later and go to sleep at 4 am and wake up at noon. 

Academically speaking, I still find the whole “anti-shipper” movement to be fascinating from a sociological perspective.

You have what amounts to a extremist purity cult whose beliefs align nearly precisely with those of Conservative American Christianity in terms of sexual purity politics (admittedly with some additional flourishes that I’ve watched develop in real time), but is mostly composed of minority members whose sexual-and-gender identities are opposed and oppressed by Conservative American Christianity.  Additionally, their tactics also mirror religious pro-censorship groups (such as Warriors For Innocence), but their rhetoric is entirely secularized and derived from leftist theory.

Did they arrive at this structure via convergent evolution?  Via socially dominant concepts in the greater socio-cultural space that they occupy?  I doubt it was by direct emulation but the possibility does exist on some levels.

I saw this one post ages ago where someone said that video games can’t have plus-size characters, because “how could they do cool action?” I can’t find the post, but it inspired me to show you guys some gifs of real people.

Last night I was hanging out with some people and the fact that ao3 won a Hugo came up and there was a mild sense of eye-rolling. No one said anything outright, and one person said they had “softened on fanfiction” lately, so all I said was “I’m very proud of my fanfiction archive and our Hugo award, thank you very much” and the conversation moved on. But in that moment, it occurred to me just how goddamn passionate I am about fanfiction. I felt myself rallying my arguments, girding my loins, ready to go into battle for fanfiction. Because, look, not everyone who paints wants to sell their paintings. Some people just want to paint along with Bob Ross or splatter something abstract on a canvass just to express their creative urges, to *make something.* Not everyone who starts a garage band is going to be the next Jimi Hendrix. The most “success” they may have is playing their cousin’s wedding for the price of free food, but they can still find fulfillment in wailing on their guitars or whatever it is the kids play these days (melodica?), having fun together and *creating something.* It’s not about success and fame and fortune. It’s about community and creativity. But, look, writing is a lonely hobby. You might be lucky enough to find a writing group that is healthy and stable, bit you know how many of those I have seen in two decades of hobby writing? One. Singular. One. And the people weren’t my types. I didn’t have much in common with them. But in fandom, hoo boy. You already have something in common with these people, you like the same dumb show and the same two idiots falling in love over and over. So it gives you a starting point. A built-in audience. And yeah, it can be hard to find a toehold, especially in a big fandom like destiel, but there is always *somebody* who will read your work. That’s not always true of original fiction. It’s a much harder sell.

People have been telling stories about their favorite characters since the dawn of civilization. Why do you think we have such a plethora of tales about the Greek gods and heros? These were our campfire tales. Before literacy, before the printing press, *everybody* was a storyteller. It’s about connection and expression.

There’s this toxic idea that if we’re good at something, we should try to make money off it. I don’t want to make money off my writing. I don’t want that kind of pressure on it. Writing is my joy and my escape from this capitalist rat wheel, and if I can do it for a group of wonderful friends who share in that joy, then by gods I’m going to.

Long live Ao3. Long live fanfiction.

Listen, listen, here’s a thing… you don’t have to have ADHD in order to use ADHD life hacks if they will make your life easier. Executive Dysfunction, regarless of cause, is a mother fucker that will ruin your life and make you utterly miserable, so if something helps? Good! I am so glad for you! Please do the thing! Life is hard enough as it is without giving ourselves extra invisible hurdles to jump.

So if you’re struggling? Please allow yourself to be kind to yourself. You deserve it, no matter what society may have conditioned you to think. You are allowed to not always be struggling. You are allowed to rest, and make things in your life easier. It’s not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of self care and adaptivbility, and those things are to always be commended.

My wish for all my favorite characters
