Compass Divination

Apparently, the compass was created by a Chinese geomantic omen master (whatever that is), and they originally used it for divination. How cool is that? I must point out, that the needle in Chinese feng shui compasses points towards the south, which could have some interesting magical uses if you’d like to do some backwards reversal magic, I guess.

This, however, is inspired by Jack Sparrow’s compass, and is used to discover what you most want in this world. I doesn’t have to be as grand as that, though, and it’s probably more useful to just figure out what you want to do at this exact moment. Which is what I do.

First, get a compass. You can get these real cheap nowadays, or you might even have one laying around. Even phones comes with these things build in now, and there’s probably lots of awesome compass apps out there as well. Still, analog magick is usually more potent. You might want to make a super-special Witch-Compass for this purpose, by adding cool sigils or just decorating it and stuff, and you can, if you want, consecrate it as you would with any of your magical tools.

Write out a list of things you think you want. This could be anything, really. Food, people, jobs, money, books, animals, projects, clothes, whatever. 

Draw a circle on a paper, divided it up in 4, 8, 12, or 16 etc. sections according to how long your list is.  

Spin the paper around until its direction is random. 

Pick up your compass.

Stand up. 

Spin around in a circle as many times as there are items on your list. 

Stop. 

Say out loud: This is the thing I want most in the world! 

Put the compass down in the centre of the circle on the paper. 

The needle will pint towards the thing you want the most in the world.

This is just one silly idea, and I’m sure there’s plenty of other unconventional uses of the compass in divination, witchcraft and magick in general.
