Writing Prompt #1939

"You call that a family?" My father sneered at the loved ones I had surrounded myself with. "This is your last chance to make the right choice. Come back with me now, and there will be limited consequences. If you don't, you are no child of mine any longer."

okay so THIS IS NOT FINISHED YET! But I feel like I’m missing a bit of story telling in this animation. I’m very tired and uninspired and I can’t think of anything to add to make it very clear what they are doing before I start doing the backgrounds and shading, suggestions are welcome! Also, if it isn’t clear what’s going on in this animation please tell me and try to add what pieces of information you’re missing.. Also also, please keep in mind that I’ll be adding an intro where Robin and Jack can be heard making fun of Ethan for not getting the game, that should add a bit more info right there.. Also also also, maybe I’m overthinking this and maybe I’m adding too much information, but right now I can’t tell xD SO BLEASE LET ME KNOW

Game-Changing Sites for Writers

A recent search for a specific type of site to help me build new characters led me down a rabbit hole. Normally, that would make me much less productive, but I have found a treasure trove of websites for writers.

Bring Characters/Places to Life

There are a few different places you can use to create a picture of something entirely new. I love this site for making character pictures as references, instead of stock photos or whatever pops up on Google Images.

thispersondoesnotexist: every time you reload the page, this site generates a headshot of someone who doesn't exist. This is great if you're thinking about a character's personality or age and don't have specifics for their facial features yet.

Night Cafe: this is an AI art generator that takes your text prompt and generates an image for it. I tried it for various scenery, like "forest" or "cottage." It takes a minute for your requested photo to load, but no more than maybe five for the program to finish the picture.

Art Breeder: this website has endless images of people, places, and general things. Users can blend photos to create something new and curious visitors can browse/download those images without creating an account. (But if you do want to make an account to create your own, it's free!)

Find Random Places on Earth

You might prefer to set a story in a real-life environment so you can reference that place's weather, seasons, small-town vibe, or whatever you like. If that's the case, try:

MapCrunch: the homepage generates a new location each day and gives the location/GPS info in the top left of the screen. To see more images from previous days, hit "Gallery" in the top left.

Atlas Obscura: hover over or tap the "Places" tab, then hit "Random Place." A new page will load with a randomly generated location on the planet, provide a Google Maps link, and tell you a little bit about the place.

Random World Cities: this site makes randomly selected lists of global cities. Six appear for each search, although you'll have to look them up to find more information about each place. You can also use the site to have it select countries, US cities or US states too.

Vary Your Wording

Thesauruses are great, but these websites have some pretty cool perspectives on finding just the right words for stories.

Describing Words: tell this website which word you want to stop repeating and it will give you tons of alternative words that mean the same thing. It typically has way more options than other sites I use.

Reverse Dictionary: type what you need a word for in Reverse Dictionary's search box and it will give you tons of words that closely match what you want. It also lists the words in order of relevancy, starting with a word that most accurately describes what you typed. (There's also an option to get definitions for search results!)

Tip of My Tongue: this website is phenomenal. It lets you search for that word you can't quite place by a letter in it, the definition, what it sounds like, or even its scrambled letters. A long list of potential options will appear on the right side of the screen for every search.

Hope this helps when you need a hand during next writing session 💛

Panic attack for bingo?

image

Wow, thanks for the ask! I tried my best with this one :)

Prompt: Panic Attack

Fandom: Original Work

Trigger Warning: Panic Attack

@badthingshappenbingo

Part 1 | Part 2

Where was Chief? Why hadn’t he found her yet?

Clara tugged at the tape that held her wrists. Nothing happened. Her wrists stayed pinned to the chair.

What was going to happen next?

When was Tom going to come back?

Did he leave her?

Was she going to die trapped in this room?

Her heart thudded in her chest. She could hear the blood rushing through her head.

What was happening?

She pulled at her wrists harder, but the tape held. Her breathing quickened, as tears started to stream down her face.

What was happening?

“Let me go.” She yelled as loud as she could, but her voice only came out as a small whimper.

She could hear Tom’s footsteps get closer.

He opened the door and stepped into the room. “Stop struggling.“ His voice trailed off.

Clara could feel his eyes on her. She wanted to ask him to help, or to look at him so he could see that she was hurting, but she couldn’t take her eyes off the floor.

“Hey.” He stepped forward and grabbed Clara’s chin. “Hey, it’s going to be ok.”

She took her eyes off the floor and made eye contact with Tom, the tears still streaming down her face.

He reached behind her and undid the tape that held her wrists.

Not knowing what to do she threw her arms around Tom and started crying harder.

“It’s going to be ok,” Tom said hugging her back. “Try focusing on your breathing.”

Clara closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Good. Now keep doing that.” Tom bent down and cradled her in his arms.

She could feel them walking through the house until he set her down on something soft.

Opening her eyes, she saw Tom pull a large blanket over her.

“How are you feeling?” he asked tucking the blanket under her chin.

Tears still streaming down her face Clara croaked “I-I don’t know.”

“It will be ok. I have had attacks like this before. Just try to sleep, and I will start making some food.”

Clara nodded and rolled onto her side. “Why are you helping me?” She muttered quietly.

Tom froze in the doorway.

“I don’t want to hurt you. I don’t care if you believe me or not, but I don’t.”

“Why did you kidnap me then?” she asked, rolling to face him.

He sighed leaning against the door frame.

“I thought it was the right thing to do.”

“I don’t believe that.”

“You don’t have to.” He said gritting his teeth.

“You said you wanted to make Chief pay.”

“Like I said before, he left me behind. I want to teach him a lesson so he’ll never do that again.”

Her heart started to beat faster, and Clara sat up, staring at Tom. “Again, I don’t believe you. Chief would never leave someone behind.”

Tom pushed away from the wall. “You don’t know him like I did, and like I’ve said a hundred times, I don’t care if you believe me. Now lay down, and I will make some food.”

She stared at him as her heartbeat drummed in her ears. Tears sprung up behind her eyes.

Tom stepped forward pushing her down onto the bed again. “Keep breathing. I’m sorry that I got mad. Try and sleep and we can talk about it later.”

Clara glared but closed her eyes.

Thoughts swam around her brain.

Why did Tom hate Chief?

What had Chief done to him?

Where was Chief?

Was he going to save her?

Through her thoughts she could hear Tom leave the room, closing the door behind him.

Clara decided to sleep first and worry about questions later. She rolled back on her side and drifted off to sleep.

My First Try!! :)

Thanks for the prompt @grab-an-idea!

Prompt: “Who are you? Show yourself!”

The job had gone wrong. It was supposed to be a small break-in. Get in, grab the artifact and leave. They had practiced it multiple times, and it had gone flawlessly. It all went wrong when they did it for real.

They had found the window, gotten into the house, and found the artifact. Or where it should have been.

“Where is it?” Chief whispered. “We’ve been watching this house for days, and no one has touched it.”

“What do we do now?” Clara asked. “Do we leave or look for it?”

Chief paced back and forth fiddling with his hair.

“Chief what do we-”

“Shh, I’m thinking.”

Clara nodded and sat down on the floor. Chief kept pacing, switching between fiddling with his hair and his belt.

Clara sat for what felt like hours before Chief stopped pacing.

“Did you hear that?”

Clara stood up. “Hear what?”

Chief didn’t respond, and they both fell silent again. The faint sound of footsteps echoed down the hall.

“We have to go. Now.” Chief grabbed Clara’s arm and took off running. They retraced their steps through the house.

Once they got to the window, both out of breath, they stopped.

“What’s going on? Who is that?” Clara knelt breathing heavily.

Chief, still holding onto her arm, pulled her up. “We have to get out of here. I’ll explain later.”

Clara nodded and opened the window. Chief let go of her arm, and she crawled out. Chief crawled out after her, and they both climbed down to the backyard.

Chief pointed to the forest that surrounded the house, Clara nodded, and they took off running.

“Clara go to the right. I’ll go to the left.”

“Why? Shouldn’t we stay together?”

“They want me. You’ll be safer if we split up.”

“Who are-“ Clara stopped. She didn’t want to leave Chief’s side he had helped her through so much, finding her on the street after her parents died and raising her like she was one of his own. Tears started to fill her eyes.

Chief grabbed her by the shoulders. “I will see you at home. I promise. I will not abandon you.”

Chief pulled her into a hug and wiped the tears from her eyes. Chief let go of her and took off running. Clara wiped her hands on her pants and ran in the opposite direction.

Clara’s lungs started to ache. Not being able to run anymore she sat down on a nearby log. She closed her eyes and focused on getting air back into her lungs.

Who was chasing them? The family that lives in the house was out of town for another week. They would have seen the family car outside and would have called the job off.

Where was the artifact? It was their ticket out of the city. Chief promised Clara that they would move to the country and live a normal life.

Her thoughts were cut off by the sound of approaching footsteps. She jumped to her feet. “Who are you? Show yourself!”

The footsteps stopped. Clara cautiously took a step towards the sound. She saw a large shadow standing in the distance. “Chief is that you?”

“Nope.” A gruff voice said. The figure started to run towards her.

She yelped and ran. The footsteps were getting closer. Clara, ignoring her screaming lungs, kept pushing forward.

She wanted Chief to be with her. He said that this guy would go after him, not her. She closed her eyes for a second pushing back the tears that were forming in her eyes. She opened her eyes and jumped over a log. She almost cleared it, but her back foot caught the edge, and she fell hard on her stomach.

She curled into a ball and tried to get her breath back. The footsteps got closer and closer until she could see black boots standing right in front of her.

“You must be the new sidekick.” A rough hand grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to her feet until she was face to face with him.

“Who are you?” Clara clawed at the hand holding her hair.

“I was the last sidekick. Until he found you and pushed me aside, now I’m going to make him pay. I thought the artifact would be enough until I saw you.” His lips parted into a wide smile. “We are going to have so much fun.”

Sophia Pt. 2

Sophia Pt. 2

Prompt: Grabbed by the Hair

Fandom: Original Work

@badthingshappenbingo

Part 1

Sophia sat huddled in the corner of her cell.

After Ray had beat her up the guards came back in and let her down from the chains. Then there were the interrogations, or rather Ray would come in every few hours and ask the same question.

Where is Evan?

Sophia wrapped her arms around her legs, pulling them closer to her body. She rested her head on her knees and almost drifted off to sleep when she heard the lock click.

Keeping her head on her knees, she could hear footsteps walking towards her. She felt a rough hand grab her hair and pull her to her feet.

Sophia started clawing at his hand as she made eye contact with Ray.

“Are you going to ask me where Evan is again?” Sophia said wincing.

“Are you going to tell me where he is?”

Sophia stared back at him. “Why do you need to know? Why can’t you just let us live in peace?”

He pulled up harder, and Sophia winced. “Because as long as he is alive, he could take everything away from me. And I am not going to let that happen.”

“Like you did to him?” she continued clawing at his hand.

His grip tightened, and he pulled up harder.

“He didn’t deserve any of this. He was just a kid when his parents died, and he would have ruined everything if he had taken over.”

“So you turned his family against him. He had just lost his parents, and you took away his support system.”

Ray let go of her hair and turned away from her. “He did that to himself. No one else trusted him. I was doing them a favor.”

“You were just doing what would benefit you. You don’t care about anyone, but yourself.”

He turned back and glared at her.

“Where is Evan?”

“I don’t know if you have realized this, but I won’t tell you where he is.”

Ray turned, grabbing her arm and pulled her close. “I don’t think you realize that you will. Just give me a few more days.”

He pushed her back, and she fell back into the corner.

“Think about that. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He flashed her a large grin and slammed the door behind him.
