Watch the original video here ( x ) Before I saw this video, I always kept a book for my homework. I use grid paper and it’s perfect for BJ… Heh. After watching this, it helped me to start developing a system I’m currently satisfied with.

To-do apps don’t work with me. It always just sits on my screen with a notification and swiping something doesn’t feel as satisfying as crossing it out victoriously with a pen. ^_^

LEGENDS ( you can also do it like this ) Helps you quickly figure out what certain tasks are at a glance. The colours are for my spiraldexes which I will not be discussing unless you guys request it. c:

Pages This is basically what my pages look like. I write the numbers at the lower corners.I also added sticky notes for extra stuff like memorizing my moral definitions. :p

Calendar  ( x ) If you watch the video, you’re supposed to list out the dates but I prefer both, so I draw a calendar and paste it in my book and list out all the really appointments/stuff I have to do in my drawn calendar and some not-important-but-still-worth-noting notes in my list-calendar.

Index Just write down the pages as shown in the video. Pretty simple.

Other things you can include: I also stick some motivational images on the last page and stuff like that. Spiraldexes can be fun but they tend to be a little time consuming to draw or at least, I can seem to use them effectively. :c

Have pages especially for grocery lists/ grades/ etc.

Page full of favourite recipes

Stick an envelope at the back cover and fill it with motivational inspiration!

Stick printables ( x ) ( x ) ( x ) ( x )

Start a goal/wishlist!

 Good luck! :*

These Tips Are Not My Own: I Was Perusing The Web A Few Days Ago And Found These Rather Helpful Tips

These tips are not my own: I was perusing the web a few days ago and found these rather helpful tips for note taking, nothing groundbreaking but they’re from Cambridge University sooo. I hope they provides some insight.

Note-taking

Notes taken during lectures, seminars and research will form the basis of your work, helping you to prepare essays and dissertations and revise for exams. Effective note-taking is a very useful skill which can help you to:

focus and concentrate

organise and record key details

gain a fuller understanding of the information and improve your recall

save time and energy by working more efficiently.

Tips for effective note-taking

be critical about the material - assess its importance to the subject matter, and its credibility

don’t copy large amounts of text verbatim

always keep detailed notes of any resources used so that you can reference properly later

review and summarise your notes afterwards

organise and store your notes so that they are easy to retrieve

The following are examples of note-taking techniques:

mind maps (e.g. spider diagram) - help you to visualise key points and the connections and overlaps between them

tabular notes - help with making comparisons between points

flow charts - help to visualise steps in a process

index cards

highlighting and annotating.

To get the most out of your lectures, you may find it useful to:

find out the subject of the lecture beforehand and read up, so that you’ll be prepared for the key themes and ideas

don’t try to write down everything - keep to main points

create a wide margin on each page so that there’s room to expand on your notes later.

When note-taking from written material it is helpful to:

take reference details down before you start reading

reading the introduction and conclusion is useful for ascertaining the main arguments and context

read critically.

A Bullet Journal Is A Customizable Journal Where You Can Keep Track Of The Things That You Need To Do.
A Bullet Journal Is A Customizable Journal Where You Can Keep Track Of The Things That You Need To Do.

a bullet journal is a customizable journal where you can keep track of the things that you need to do. what you basically do is write down the things that you need to do for today and check off things like a to-do list. it’s designed to be more flexible and customizable than a planner. you can organize however you want and write down whatever you want in it. you can look at the official website and watch the original video. however, i adapted the journal, and so, it’s not exactly like a “traditional” bullet journal.

journal

you can use whatever notebook you wish. some people prefer gridded notebooks because it makes it easier to divide up into boxes and stuff. i would’ve used a composition notebook but i ended up using something else. however, you do not need to have an expensive moleskine notebook or super expensive pens or whatnot. don’t buy into the hype. you can use whatever you have.

monthly spread

i like having a monthly spread so that i can keep track of upcoming dates. as you can see, i glued in a calendar that i drew on graph paper. i also like to write down interesting quotes / passages with each month. this time, it was a passage from shakespeare’s “romeo and juliet.” i also like to pick a color scheme for the month and stick to those colors for the remainder of the month.

daily tasks

i just list out all of the various things that i have to do for the day. many people like coming up with a color key or a legend to differentiate their tasks. however, i easily forget symbols and get too lazy to switch out colors, so i don’t really bother with it. i used to keep a little W: for a water tracker, but now, i use an app to track my daily water intake. the symbols i use: boxes for tasks, circles for sub-tasks, bullet points for appointments/events

deadlines

i write down deadlines / test dates on a sticky note and stick it on that spread. if you look closely in the first picture, you can see a sticky note covering the little eiffel tower on the right. if the deadline hasn’t come yet, i transfer it onto the next weekly sticky note.

extra things

i’m in key club, so i keep a page by my monthly spread to keep track of my volunteer hours. i also have pages for books that i want to read, a wishlist of things that i’d like, etc etc. i also like to stick in some bits of interesting washi tapes, reminders written on sticky tabs, little doodles, etc. it’s your bullet journal!! do whatever you want in it! you have the freedom to make it yours.

here’s a post i made a while ago showing my bullet journal and here’s my tag on bullet journals that you can look through. remember: you don’t have to have your bullet journal exactly like mine. experiment a little bit! also, it’s okay if bullet journals don’t work out for you. i prefer some aspects of a planner and some aspects of a bullet journal so i combined the two. if you have any more questions about my set-up, just send me a message!

hope this helped and good luck! if you’d like to request a post, go here and if you’d like to see more helpful posts, go here!! thanks :)

Sherlock Approved Study Tips for Visual Learners

image

Visual learners are those who learn best through what they see. For example, a visual learner needs to see a math problem worked out step by step rather than just listen to the teacher explain it in order to learn. If that sounds like you here some tips on how to get the most out of your study time.

Not sure what type of learner you are? Take this test at Education Planner and find out!

1) Color Code Your Notes

Color coding your notes can help you visualize the information you learned that day and help you quickly identify the important bits. They also make your notes pretty and colorful. Try assigning each color a meaning. For instance, everything yellow is going to be on the test and everything blue is a homework assignment.

2) Flash Cards

Flash cards are a great tool for both visual and kinaesthetic learners. To make them more visual learning friendly, copy down the graphs or symbols that your teacher used in the lesson and make a matching game with their definitions. Caution, do not over load your flash cards! With flash cards, the gist is better than a 5 paragraph essay. If you want to make your cards online check out this handy site:

3) Watch Tutorial Videos

Watching a video can be a great way to refresh your memory or learn a new concept. In a tutorial video you can pause, rewind, or fast forward the video whenever a concept is too hard or familiar. The Khan Academy and Youtube are both great resources for educational videos. On Youtube, we love

Minute Physics

Your Teacher Math Help

Khan Academy

4) Rewrite Or Type Your Notes

It may seem repetitive but rewriting or typing your hand written notes is a great way to review the lesson. For visual learners, seeing the information again and again in new ways helps it stick even deeper in your brain.

I’ve seen a lot of curious people wanting to dive into classical music but don’t know where to start, so I have written out a list of pieces to listen to depending on mood. I’ve only put out a few, but please add more if you want to. hope this helps y’all out. :)

stereotypical delightful classical music:

battalia a 10 in d major (biber)

if you need to sleep:

moonlight sonata

pomp and circumstance

symphony no. 9 (beethoven; this is where ode to joy came from)

1812 overture

symphony no. 5, finale (tchaikovsky) (added by viola-ology)

if you feel really excited:

hoedown (copland)

bacchanale

spring (from the four seasons) (be careful, if you listen to this too much you’ll start hating it)

la gazza ladra

death and the maiden (schubert)

if you are angry and you want to take a baseball bat and start hitting a bush:

dance of the knights (from the romeo and juliet suite by prokofiev)

winter, mvt. 1 (from the four seasons)

symphony no. 10 mvt. 2 (shostakovich)

symphony no. 5 (beethoven)

eine kleine nachtmusik

bolero (ravel)

serenade for strings (elgar)

scheherazade (rimsky-korsakov) (added by viola-ology)

pines of rome, mvt. 4 (resphigi) (added by viola-ology)

if you really want to dance:

capriccio espagnol (rimsky-korsakov)

blue danube

le cid (massenet) (added by viola-ology)

radetzky march

if you want to start bouncing in your chair:

hopak (mussorgsky)

les toreadors (from carmen suite no.1)

if you’re about to pass out and you need energy:

hungarian dance no. 1

hungarian dance no. 5

if you want to hear suspense within music:

firebird

in the hall of the mountain king

ride of the valkyries

if you want a jazzy/classical feel:

rhapsody in blue

if you want to feel emotional with no explanation:

introduction and rondo capriccioso

unfinished symphony (schubert)

symphony no. 7, allegretto (beethoven) (added by viola-ology)

canon in d (pachelbel)

if you want to sit back and have a nice cup of tea:

st. paul’s suite

concerto for two violins (vivaldi)

l’arlésienne suite

pieces that don’t really have a valid explanation:

symphony no. 40 (mozart)

cello suite no. 1 (bach)

polovtsian dances

enigma variations (elgar) (added by viola-ology)

perpetuum mobile

pieces that just sound really cool:

scherzo tarantelle

dance of the goblins

caprice no. 24 (paganini)

new world symphony, allegro con fuoco (dvorak) (added by viola-ology)

if you feel like listening to concertos all day (I do not recommend doing that):

concerto for two violins (bach)

concerto for two violins (vivaldi)

violin concerto in a minor (vivaldi)

violin concerto (tchaikovsky) (added by iwillsavemyworld)

cello concerto in c (haydn)

piano concerto, mvt. 1 (pierne) (added by iwillsavemyworld)

harp concerto in E-flat major, mvt. 1 (added by iwillsavemyworld)

and if you really just hate classical music in general:

4′33″ (cage)

a lot of these pieces apply in multiple categories, but I sorted them by which I think they match the most. have fun exploring classical music!

also, thank you to viola-ology and iwillsavemyworld for adding on! if you would like to add on your own suggestions, please reblog and add on or message me so I can give you credit for the suggestion!
