Me when people say that Aemond is a better fighter than Daemon and is going to kill him
as someone who was adopted i HATEEE the conversation surrounding the velaryon kids because i never felt like I really fit in (through no fault of my adoptive family, I just had issues after being shuttled around the foster system), I always felt like I wasn't as good as my mums "real" (biological) family, I never felt like I was truly her daughter, I was genuinely surprised to see i was given an equal share in her will as my sisters, the idea these kids aren't really laenors and not really rhaenys and corlys' family and have no right to family echoes so much of how I felt. and it's not even my own feelings anymore. People have been saying it for 2 years. I cant enjoy this fandom without seeing people questioning whether or not they should be considered part of the targ family.
and yeah I know its fiction but this series isn't made as an escape, its a commentary. which is why so much is based off current politics and historical conflicts. its made to reflect the real world. and all I see is my own feelings of inadequacy reflected.
(on anon because I don't want to be attacked by rabid TG fans)
It took me a while to organize my thoughts to answer and I still don't think this is a good enough answer
But I think this all comes from that believe that an adopted child can't be as loved as a biological one
That's why they think that Daemon hates the Velaryon boys or that Laenor's side of the family has no right to mourn Lucerys
Add a sprinkle of resentment to that mix because TG (who are the picture of a nuclear family) are constantly betraying each other, and TB (who are messy as fuck ngl) are a united front
And you have bastardphobia at its finest
The Velaryon boys are all amazing and very loved, so those who hate them can only use their parentage as justification for their hatred towards them, using bastard as an insult
They forget that this shit affects real people, that their "uh they are not a real family because they are not related đ”âđ«" affects real people who "unluckily" don't have a nuclear family with a biological mom and a biological dad
bethany and steve talking about how their scenes and lines were cut out and they had to quite literally beg and advocate for their inclusion in the show. nevermind the treatment rhaena is getting in the show that just⊠is insanely off track from the treatment she got in the books. characters with little to no relevance are given screentime and have scenes that should have gone to other characters, actors experiencing racism and hate from the gp, and poc characters either being scrapped or reduced to a fanfiction version of the writers fantasy. mind you, baela and corlys are in my top five favs on the show, and here i am being told that despite their importance in the narrative (especially baelaâs) they are either reduced to the background, sidelined or cut out completely? but they have enough time to film olivia cooke taking a fucking bath every episode? phoebe even mentions theyâd get disappointed looking at the script knowing they wouldnât have any lines. not to mention, other canon poc characters like nettles go erased and merged into other black characters, and itâs STILL not done with a manner of intention and care. it feels intentional to have these characters be played by black actors and then do this to them. fucking KYS ryan and sara
It is beyond me what Green stans are doing in the âanti-hotdâ tag when the entire shitshow is basically an extremely canon-deviated version which serves their delusions, as follows:
1. Alicent is such a poor, innocent, do-gooder peacemaker, and certainly did not abuse her step-daughter, nor seduced and married the King for power, nor plotted for years to usurp the throne.
2. Aegon is not a gluttonous, lazy pig. He is just misunderstood. He harasses women because his daddy doesnât love him.
3. Aemond is not a psycho. No, definitely not. He does terrible things âaccidentallyâ because he was âbulliedâ (that word justifies your every action throughout your adult life? Really?)
4. Helaena is not irrelevant. No, of course not. The canon lies. She was a dreamer. WowâŠa dreamerâŠbut still completely useless.
I thought this was a safe tag where people can actually discuss the problems with this show, not for people to rant their delusions on how the showrunners âhateâ the Greens, when theyâve done nothing but sugarcoat everything they do.
Like, suddenly, the coup orchestrated by the Greens is not treason, and not a malicious act (according to Ryan Conman and Sara Less), even though GRRM rightfully portrays that it is. I canât believe that there is even a debate on that.
SO TRUE !
Ik this isnât Norton related but itâs been on my mind so âŠ.
Hot take . I donât think Hotd should be having a season 3. After the abomination that was season 2 I donât think it shouldâve been renewed. I also feel that they have gone so off the point of the book ( yes I know itâs an adaptation and things can get changed but not at the detriment of the story ) also making it woke . Seriously like wtf why âŠ. It wasnât needed . Hot hot take they shouldâve gotten D & D to write it . At least it wouldâve been engaging and entertaining. None of this miscommunication or accident bs . The characters would be multifaceted . But no we got two incompetents who are writing their own bs lesbian fanfic đ€Šđ»ââïžnow they gonna have daeron for what purpose honestly ? You ignored him season one ,was mentioned in season 2 , I mean one of his arcs canât even be used because no third child and honestly why bother their only gonna ruin as they have all the others . Itâs a waste âŠ
Rant over
Their little babyâs.
It's amazing how similar children are to them
In some universe Dany, Brienne, Sansa, Arianne, Elia, Rhaenys and Arya are sharing confidences and spitting about gross men, I'm sure.
if it wasnt clear before,
"If the writers of House of The Dragon keep gaslighting the audience into thinking Viserys was anything better than a powerful man who stole a young girls future, dreams and physical body in the quest for a son he will never love, I will riot"
Okay, I have one fundamental question for people who think that if it weren't for Viserys, Alicent would have a "future" - what kind? What kind of future would that be? If someone says "marriage and children of love <3" they're being ridiculous. I know the creators want to show that Alicent is THE victim, the truth is that you can count on the fingers of one hand the women in the world of ASOIAF who were not victims of an arranged marriage.
Alicent was the daughter of the second son, who despite being the Hand of the King (which he lost several times) had no lands or wealth, no army. Everything that belonged to the Hightower family didn't belong to Otto, but to his older brother, who was the Lord of Oldtown. If it weren't for Viserys, Otto would have married her off to some lesser lord... And that was it. There would be no wonderful "future", just the exact same life, but much less comfortable, because it would be hard to find a man who would allow Alicent so much disrespect and do whatever she wanted.
Personally I donât know how people can think Rhaegar dying with Lyannaâs name is romantic (not confirmed canon btw only came from an app which GRRM does not back as canon) when he had a whole ass daughter hiding under his bed wishing he would save herâŠhe couldnât spare her a thought?
