I'm tired of people saying that the Greens started the war for their own survival, all while insisting that they are talking about HOTD and not Fire and Blood, except that even in HOTD it is simply a matter of acidity of power and misogyny. Literally, Otto says it in episode 3. Gotta stop the bullshit after a while. And daring to say that Rhaenyra taking the throne doesn't help women in general in Westeros, when... well it does. That’s the point of a fucking precedent. Stop trying to twist everything to fit your bullshit logic. I'm tired of coming across arguments from Green stans.
I saw someone asking why Alicent Hightower and Criston Cole seem to be getting more hate than Joffrey Baratheon or Ramsay Bolton ever did.
The answer to that question is very simple.
Joffrey and Ramsay were just cartoonishly evil, so to speak. They were fun to watch and read about sometimes. They made good villains, and they knew that they were villains (never attempting to hide it).
Alicent and Cole (and Otto as well), on the other hand, are the kind of people you meet in real life as well. The kind of people you absolutely can’t stand for their false piety, their hypocrisy, their gold digging, their double-standards, their constant judgmental attitude, and cruel intentions.
In other words:
Joffrey and Ramsay are TV/book villains.
Alicent, Otto and Cole are real life villains.
"not all men-" you're right, jacaerys targaryen, heir to the iron throne, prince of dragonstone, the eldest son of queen rhaenyra targaryen and laenor velaryon, a dragonrider, would never treat me like this
Before Aemond and Laena, Vhagar’s rider was Prince Baelon.
Before Rhaenys, Meleys’ rider was Princess Alyssa.
Before Rook’s Rest, they were ridden side by side for decades by two people madly in love, then by mother and daughter.
Do you think, while Vhagar’s jaws were clamped shut around Meleys’ throat, that either of them wondered how they got there?
I think the Team Green fixation on Jaehaera is honestly pathetic and embarassing. She’s not the first or last child to suffer or die in ASOIAF, nor end her bloodline. Why did the Velaryon boys all have to die brutal deaths ? What about all the peasant children who burn up in Aemond’s rampages, or suffer mass rape and murder at Bitterbridge and Tumbleton ? Why do Shireen, Myrcella, Tommen have to suffer a horrible fate ? I never see the same insistence that any of them make it.
I think her death serves two important narrative stories. First, it secures the pyrrhic victory, by ending the Green’s bloodline and making their supposed efforts for self-preservation completely null. It evens the slate between the Greens and Blacks (Greens get the history books, Blacks get the actual bloodline).
But I think the more important narrative is how it demonstrates the effect of the Dance on women in the universe. The irony that the Greens last claimant to the throne is invalid because of their efforts. Jaehaera is deemed unimportant and replaceable by her own faction because of gender, and is therefore relegated to a vulnerable and unprotected position. Their ideology kills the last of their bloodline. She is usurped and killed by an ambitious lord with the same motivations as her grandfather had for usurping Rhaenyra. It shows the cyclical nature of violence against girls and women who have little value in their society, except as bloodline vessels and maybe curators of political favors and supportive wives.

as someone who was adopted i HATEEE the conversation surrounding the velaryon kids because i never felt like I really fit in (through no fault of my adoptive family, I just had issues after being shuttled around the foster system), I always felt like I wasn't as good as my mums "real" (biological) family, I never felt like I was truly her daughter, I was genuinely surprised to see i was given an equal share in her will as my sisters, the idea these kids aren't really laenors and not really rhaenys and corlys' family and have no right to family echoes so much of how I felt. and it's not even my own feelings anymore. People have been saying it for 2 years. I cant enjoy this fandom without seeing people questioning whether or not they should be considered part of the targ family.
and yeah I know its fiction but this series isn't made as an escape, its a commentary. which is why so much is based off current politics and historical conflicts. its made to reflect the real world. and all I see is my own feelings of inadequacy reflected.
(on anon because I don't want to be attacked by rabid TG fans)
It took me a while to organize my thoughts to answer and I still don't think this is a good enough answer
But I think this all comes from that believe that an adopted child can't be as loved as a biological one
That's why they think that Daemon hates the Velaryon boys or that Laenor's side of the family has no right to mourn Lucerys
Add a sprinkle of resentment to that mix because TG (who are the picture of a nuclear family) are constantly betraying each other, and TB (who are messy as fuck ngl) are a united front
And you have bastardphobia at its finest
The Velaryon boys are all amazing and very loved, so those who hate them can only use their parentage as justification for their hatred towards them, using bastard as an insult
They forget that this shit affects real people, that their "uh they are not a real family because they are not related 😵💫" affects real people who "unluckily" don't have a nuclear family with a biological mom and a biological dad
What i thought we'd get with alicent being Rhaenyra's age and "friend"":
An ambitious young woman who befriended the princess to be in the upper echelons of society and close to the crown/crown princess in order to manipulate her/be closer to viserys in order to manipulate his feelings before/after aemma in order to become queen and work hard and use the secrets/insecurities she discovered as the princess' best friend/lady in waiting against rhaenyra in order to have her son crowned king one day
What we got: a bland, boring 2D character with no agency or goals or ambitions who hides the fact her son his a rapist, who insists she's the victim of the story and chalks everything up to an unfortunate accident cause she's never done anything wrong ever and only ever been used by everyone in her life 🙄 (this is sarcasm i loathe show alicent more than any other asoiaf character)
Aegon IVs top 10 most iconic moments:
10. Naming those hills “Barba’s Teets” and then renaming them “Missy’s Teets” when Barba insults Missy’s breast size.
9. Trying to invade Dorne only to not even make it to shore because his whole fleet was wrecked by a storm.
8. Burning down 1/4 of the Kingswood and killing hundreds of people while trying to build wooden dragons for his Dornish invasion. Then immediately giving up on invading Dorne and pretending like nothing happened.
7. Showing up at Whitewalls, impregnating Lord Butterwell’s 3 daughters, and giving him a dragons egg as a reward.
6. Gifting Blackfyre to his bastard son Daemon.
5. Killing his father, Viserys II, thereby robbing the realm of potentially the best king it may have ever seen.
4. Creating Bloodraven.
3. Helping Daena escape the Maidens’ Vault and impregnating her, thereby both creating Daemon Blackfyre and also indirectly causing Baelor the Blessed to kill himself.
2. Spreading rumors that Daeron is his brother’s bastard just to undermine his own heir purely out of spite.
1. Legitimizing all his bastards on his death bed so he can keep being everyone’s problem for another 80 years.
if it wasnt clear before,
A Quote from the book Fire and Blood: 300 Years Before A Game of Thrones (A Targaryen History) (A Song of Ice and Fire)
"Whatever her powers, it would seem Daemon Targaryen was immune to them, for little is heard of this supposed sorceress whilst the prince held Harrenhal."
And that my dears, is the summary of a whole fucking season of Deamon hallucinating in Harrenhal!
