Is it okay to have a digital altar to a deity in Animal Crossing?
Absolutely! Using a digital space like Animal Crossing for your magickal practice is not only okay, but it can be a profoundly creative and effective way to connect with your chosen deities or spiritual forces. In the realm of Neo-Technomagick, the digital and physical worlds are interconnected facets of the greater reality/ the Omniverum, where every space — whether digital, material, or conceptual — holds potential for magickal practice. Your digital altar in Animal Crossing can serve as a potent focal point for your intentions, rituals, and spiritual connections.
Here are some ways to enhance your digital altar in Animal Crossing:
Infuse Intent into the Design: As you create your altar, consider the symbolic correspondences of the items you place on it. Choose colors, objects, and layouts that align with the deity or spirit you are honoring. For example, if you are building an altar to a goddess of the moon, use blue and silver elements, crescent shapes, or items that evoke the sea or nighttime.
Daily Rituals and Offerings: Engage with your digital altar regularly, much like you would with a physical one. You might set aside a specific time each day to visit your altar in the game, light digital candles, or place offerings. In the game, you could offer fruit, flowers, or crafted items as a gesture of devotion or gratitude. The act of doing so, even in a virtual space, reinforces your spiritual intention and connection.
Incorporate Sound and Movement: Animal Crossing offers various music tracks and sound effects. Choose sounds that resonate with the deity or intention of your altar. You can even create a ritual dance or movement in the game to accompany your practice. This could be as simple as performing certain actions (like clapping or cheering) or creating a sequence of movements that feel meaningful to you.
Sync Your Digital and Physical Spaces: Create a corresponding altar in your physical space, mirroring the elements in your digital game. This creates a bridge between the digital and physical realms, amplifying your magickal intent. When you interact with your digital altar, do the same in your physical space — light a real candle, place a crystal, or meditate. This practice aligns both realms, creating a powerful synergy.
Document and Reflect: Keep a digital or physical journal to document your experiences, thoughts, and any signs or synchronicities you encounter. Reflecting on these moments helps you deepen your understanding of your practice and the connections you are making through the digital altar. You could even create a dedicated scrapbook in Animal Crossing using in-game patterns or designs.
Use In-Game Events to Mark Ritual Occasions: Align your digital practices with in-game events or celestial movements. For example, you could hold a ritual or celebration at your digital altar during an in-game festival or when the full moon rises in the game’s sky. This syncs your personal practice with both the game’s internal rhythms and the larger cosmic cycles.
Engage with the Community: Share your altar and practice with others, whether it’s with friends who visit your Animal Crossing island or by sharing screenshots and experiences on social media. Engaging with a like-minded community can amplify the energy of your practice and provide new ideas and inspirations. Remember, the true power of any spiritual or magickal practice lies in the intention behind it. The digital realm, like any other, is a canvas upon which we paint our will, belief, and creativity. By treating your digital altar with the same respect and dedication as a physical one, you are reinforcing your connection to the divine and the endless possibilities of the Omniverum.

Basic Knowledge of the energy body (Subtle Body)
So without further ado lets get started!
How to feel your own energy
How to feel your own energy?- I put this one last because i didn't want anyone to be overwhelmed especially if your just now starting to get into energy work. For some bringing their own energy to the surface and feeling it can come naturally, for some not so much. Some might find it easier to draw energy from outside sources rather than using their own. So whatever the reason may be, we are here to help you in the journey to feel your own energy.
Exercise 1-
Lay down in a comfortable position, or sit in one, which ever is more relaxing for you.
Still your mind. Mindfulness is a wonderful tool, helping bring focus and inner peace. Take big slow breaths, in through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Do this until you feel your body relax. Allow whatever thoughts that may arise, to come in go, do not heed them much attention.
Then in your mind, will your energy to rise. You can say an affirmation, or focus on your breath. You might start to feel tingly or you may feel very little. It can vary from person to person.
Next, if you feel anything focus on that feeling. What does it feel like? Is it only on part of your body, or all over? Can you direct all to one spot? If so congrats, you are feeling your energy.
Practice this everyday. Energetic awareness is a very important skill to learn, and is used by even the most advanced energy practitioners.
What is Grounding and Centering and how do you go about it?
Grounding- Grounding is a practice that involves and encourages the release of excess energy that does not serve us, by connecting the kind body and spirit with the earth. This exercise is also a great way to replenish energy.
Centering- Centering is the intentional act of bringing your energy back into alignment, bringing balance and focus to your inner self. This is usually done after setting an intention for centering.
Exercises-
Spend time out in nature, barefoot.
Practice mindfulness. Close your eyes, and only focus on your breathing. Allow thoughts to come and go, do not pay them to much attention, Don't fret if this is difficult at first, it will get easier with practice. 5-10 minutes is a good amount of time to start out with daily.
Grounding Meditation Exercise- Sit down anywhere that is comfortable for you, and close your eyes. Take slow deep breaths in and out, calming your body. Once you feel calm enough, visualize, roots coming out of you, connecting to the earth. Visualize them connecting deep beneath the planets surface. Then visualize anything negative you feel about yourself, or anything that is weighing you down, being absorbed into the earth. Continue to do this until you feel satisfied. Thank mother earth for providing assistance.
Black Hole Grounding- One of my favorite exercises is the black hole grounding technique. So what you do is you find a comfortable place, preferably quiet, and relax. Take slow deep breaths, followed by slow exhales. Then Visualize yourself in space, surrounded by stars and planets. You’re just floating there in place. The visualize a black hole above your head. Imagine that all the negative thoughts and feelings or anything else that is troubling you has turned into silver particles of energy that started at the base of your spine and are traveling upwards, escaping through the top of your head into the black hole. Do this until you feel grounded.
Breathwork, such as the 4,7,8 breath. Breath in for 4 counts, hold for 7 counts, and exhale for 8 counts. This helps the vagus nerve, which is responsible for quite a lot in the body. This technique helps calm the body, relieve anxiety and stress, while helping you focus on the present/present task at hand.
Visualization- Close your eyes and visualize a bright warm sun above you. You’re laying in a field of soft grass, surrounded by your favorite plants. A light breeze is blowing through. The sun is shining down its warmth. Now visualize the sun rays flowing through your body, in a bright light. Rejuvenating you, allowing you to feel calm and at peace, your inner self finding balance and focus. Continue to do this until you feel the need to stop.
Movement- Movement such as Dancing, Yoga, Working out, or even a simple walk, no matter the distance can help you center yourself.
What is Breathwork?
Breathwork at the barebones is a technique that has its deep roots in yoga, and is designed to help you release excess anxiety, stress and toxins from the body. The anxiety, stress and toxins are released when you breathe out, and its believed that when you breathe in you’re nourishing your body.
Breathwork Exercises-
4-7-8 Breath- Breathe in for 4 counts, hold your breath for 7, and breathe out for 8 counts.’
Diaphragmatic Breathing-
Lay Down on your back your knees bent, and a pillow underneath your head
Place one hand on your chest, and the other underneath your ribcage
Slowly take a deep breath through the nose, letting your belly expand
Do not move your hands as you slowly exhale through your mouth
Equal Breathing-
Sit down in a comfortable position
Breathe in and out through your nose slowly
Making sure each breath is even, count during your inhale and exhale
Add a comfortable pause after each inhale and exhale
Do this 5 minutes daily
Deep Breathing-
Get into a comfortable standing or sitting position
Deeply inhale through your nose
Retain your breath for 5 Counts (You can do more if you have good lung capacity or feel comfortable doing so)
Slowly release your breath by exhaling through your nose
Resonant/Coherent Breathing-
Inhale for 5 counts, laying, sitting or standing’
Exhale for 5 counts laying, sitting or standing
Repeat for as long as needed (Preferably for a few minutes a day)
What is Warding?- Wards are a type of Magical defense or protection spell cast with the intention to guard against negative energies, entities, or other forms of harm ranging from spiritual, emotional to physical. When casting a ward, it can be used on a person, place, or object. Wards are usually created using different symbols, words, items, rituals or energy. Now you maybe thinking, how do i ward? Or how do i ward if i am a closeted practitioner and im going to show you.
First you need to cleanse or purify your space of any unwanted energies. Some things that are good for this are lavender, lilac, cedar, cumin, dragons blood (my personal fave), garlic, onion, basil and more (Research into herbs for banishment and pick and choose what you feel will work best for you)
Set your intention. Setting your intention is an extremely important, as it allows you steady and focus your mind on the task at hand. It also helps set up the ward for any energies you don't want slipping through.
Choosing your tools! Another important step! It can range from anything really. Sigils, crystals, wands, chalices, athames, a cauldron, your own energy even.
Maintaining your wards is the next step after intention and choosing your tools. This can be done in various ways. Putting water charged with the energy of a celestial body, such as the moon, sun stars etc above and around doorways, and windows, drawing sigils with a specific intent around the doorways and windows, placing crystals at the four corners is another way. Another way is an energetic boundary.
Cleanse and take care of your wards. Charge your crystals, redo the sigils, use more charged water.
Warding with a space with your energy-
Sit in comfortable position
Close your eyes steadying your breath
Will your energy to come to the surface, do not force it. Let it surface on its own.
Visualize your energy expanding outwards with the intention (whatever your intention maybe) surrounding and protecting you and your space.
Do this until you feel the need to stop. Make sure to rest and eat healthy as this ward is tied to you. You are the catalyst the energy source for keeping the ward going. Make sure you are taking time to keep your energy field clean.
What is shielding?- Shielding is a way to protect yourself from psychic, mental or some kind of magical attack. Its creating an energy barrier around yourself, one that people cant penetrate or get past to cause you any harm.
How to Shield yourself-
Get into a calm, preferably quiet environment. Calm your mind and focus
Once this is done there is multiple ways to shield. If you want to use your own energy, will it to the surface. If you are using an outside source, such as the sun, moon, or another celestial body, ask for them to lend their energy.
Once you have gathered up energy, visualize it being weaved together, like a basket, or like a spider weaving a web. Visualize it forming a protective bubble around you, allowing nothing to penetrate it.
Continuing visualizing until you feel the shield is complete. Make sure to check on your shield every so often, as it can wear and tear if the energy is not kept up with.
History of chakras- The chakra system was said to have originated in India sometime between 1500 and 500 BC in the oldest texts called the vedas. Evidence of chakras, spelled cakra, is also found in the Shri Jabala Darshana Upanishad, the Cudamini Upanishad, the Yoga-Shikka Upanishad and the Shandilya Upanishad. According to the author Anodea Judith, who wrote in her book titled the “Wheels of Life” knowledge of the chakra system was said to have been passed down through oral tradition, from the indonesian people to the european people also called Aryan people. The chakra system was traditionally Eastern concept until new age western authors, liked the texts, and appropriating the culture made it more “accessible”
Chakras are small spinning wheels or disks that run along the spine in the human body. The main 7 are the most known ones, but it has been mentioned that there could possibly be up to 114.
Western System- The western system “expanded” upon the Energy centers. These ways are not the ways the chakras were have said to be practiced in ancient times. The western system has also expanded how many energy centers there are in general. The transpersonal energy centers are ones that are believed to lie outside the body, below the feet and above the head. The main 7 energy centers are also commonly used. The western system also practices that each energy center or point has a color. These being the colors of the visible light spectrum. The western system teaches that if you wear a certain color or eat a certain food, or wear a certain crystal that pertains to that energy center or energy centers, that the energy will flow. This system has practices the energy centers can be closed off, or unbalanced.
7 main energy centers
Root
Sacral
Solar Plexus
Heart
Throat
Third Eye
Crown
These are the energy centers that run up and down your spine. The root is said to sit on the bottom or base of the spine, the sacral sitting on the naval, the solar plexus in the diaphragm area below the rib cage but above the belly button, the heart at the center of the chest, the throat in the middle of your throat, the third eye above the brow where the pineal gland sits and the crown is believed the rest on the top of your head.
How to create energy balls- Energy balls are a fun beginner practice and a great way to really feel and shape your own energy (and energy from outside sources) So how do you start?
Start by getting into a comfortable positon where you can relax. Will your energy to the surface (This may take a couple of tries).
When you feel you got a good hold of your energy, visualize it traveling down to your hands.
Once you feel it in your hands, hold your hands together
“Trapping the energy” In between them. Slowly move them apart, and as you do, will it into the shape of a ball. Again this could take multiple attempts and requires focus, so do not be disheartened if at first you don't get it.
Once you have a grasp on your energy ball, take notice of how the energy feels, Does it feel heavy or light? What color is the energy? If you cant tell these things right away, again that is fine.
Toss the energy ball back and forth in your hands. Play around with the energy, and overall just have fun. This is a fun beginner exercise and something that even if you get it on the first attempt should be practiced daily.
What is the Energy body and why is it important?- The energy body is said to be between the physical body and the emotional body, and is composed of 5 layers, going from the “gross” to the most “subtle”. The five bodies are….
The Physical Body
The Energetic Body
The Emotional Body
The Mental Body
The Subtle Body
The energy centers, energy channels (meridians) and the aura all play a key part in the Energetic Anatomy of the body. The 5 bodies alongside the different parts of our energetic anatomy are said to be a key part (especially in holistic energy medicine) of helping us maintain wellness, of the body mind and spirit.
I hope you have enjoyed this small energy work 101 beginners guide. I hope this helps you get started on your energy journey, and heres to hoping that you practice everyday, and continue to learn and evolve as you do so. Remember, the only thing holding you back is yourself, and by reading this guide, and putting into practices the exercises contained within it, you’ve already taken the first step, in your amazing journey

Colour magic is a component of many magical traditions since colours have specific connections. However, keep in mind that certain traditions may establish their own correspondences that differ from those listed.
When it comes to employing these correspondences, be imaginative and think outside of your usual comfort zone. You may have a variety of candles, coloured paper, altar cloths and fabric, ribbons, or even ink on hand to employ in different magical workings.
Spells and incantations should be written in the proper colour or on comparable coloured paper. You may use stones, plants, or flowers in whichever colour you like. If you meditate or perform chaka energy work, you can visualise yourself surrounded by light of the colour you require for your magical works. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
Red-
Red is associated with boldness and health, as well as sexual love and passion. It can be useful in spellwork. Use red lipstick to kiss your partner, fill a red cloth pouch with herbs to improve your sex life, or light a red candle before a difficult task to give yourself a little additional bravery. If you participate in sports or other competitive activities, wearing anything red under your uniform might boost your confidence.
Red is also connected with war and strength, so if you're ready to engage in physical or mental combat, red may be a helpful colour to have; imagine yourself bathed in a great crimson glow before marching into battle. Red is also related with the root chakra. As a result, it is linked to our sense of stability as well as our interactions with the physical and material worlds.
Magic uses: Love, physical energy, health, willpower, Passion, courage, strength, intense emotions
Pink-
Pink represents friendship and pure, innocent love. Have a crush on someone but aren't quite ready to ignite the flames of passion yet? Use pink roses or other flowers to convey your message. Dress in pink to make new acquaintances. Burn a pink candle to invoke emotional and spiritual healing magic, or to foster a new relationship.
Magic uses: Romance, spiritual awakening, partnerships, children's magic, Affection, friendship, companionship, spiritual healing
Orange-
If you're working for attractiveness and encouragement, incorporate orange into your magical endeavours. Light an orange candle to attract fresh chances into your life; if you desire excitement and adventure, wear something orange that will catch people's attention. Orange is a colour of creativity and self-expression, therefore utilise it while performing magical rituals connected to concerns like writer's block, or if you're an artist who feels like your muse has been suppressed recently. Because orange is connected with the sacral chakra, it represents both sexuality and emotion, particularly our ability to form emotional relationships with others.
Magic uses: Adaptability to sudden changes, encouragement, power, Energy, attraction, vitality, stimulation
Gold-
Gold is related, as one might expect, with money prosperity, commercial ventures, and solar connections. Hang gold colours around your entryway to attract money, or burn a gold candle for workings that will help your business succeed. If you want to give your profession a magical boost, wear gold jewellery or keep a piece in your pocket. Gold is also beneficial in situations concerning the law, courtrooms, and the justice system; if you are waiting for a judgement in a civil action or a criminal case, tuck a piece of gold paper inside your shoe before entering the courthouse.
Magic uses: Success, health, ambition, finances, good fortune, divination, Inner strength, self-realization, understanding, intuition
Yellow-
Yellow is an excellent colour for persuasion and protection. It's a bright, cheery colour that promotes happiness - and when people are happy, they're far more inclined to see things your way! Yellow is associated with self-empowerment due to its affinity for the solar plexus chakra. A person with a strong solar plexus chakra has a good mix of self-confidence and self-control.
Magic uses: Communication, confidence, divination, study, Intellect, inspiration, imagination, knowledge
Green-
As you might expect, green is associated with financial wealth and money, but it is also firmly linked to fertility magic. Green also corresponds to the heart chakra. It is our emotional centre, which allows us to love others and receive love in return. Forgiveness, romantic love, compassion, empathy, and platonic love are all centred in the heart chakra, thus use green for spellwork including these topics.
Magic uses: Prosperity, employment, fertility, health, good luck, Abundance, growth, wealth, renewal, balance
Light blue-
Light blue is connected with magic, including healing, patience, and understanding. To promote wellbeing and good health, sew a sachet or pillow packed with therapeutic herbs or crochet a baby blanket out of blue flannel cloth. If you have a sick buddy, write their name on a blue candle before burning it. Another wonderful suggestion is to give them a pack of blue socks.
Blue is also the colour of the throat chakra, which serves as our communication centre. It's what allows us to be honest and open with the people in our life. Our capacity to trust and be trustworthy, to speak truly and fairly, all stem from the throat chakra, therefore utilise light blue if you need to get to the bottom of a problem or establish channels of communication.
Magic uses: Well being and good health, communication r better communication spells. Healing, psychic ability, harmony in the home, understanding, Peace, truth, wisdom, protection, patience.
Dark blue-
If your magical practice involves despair and emotional weakness, dark blue is the colour to utilise. Dark blue, or indigo, is associated with the brow chakra, where many people think our Third Eye is placed. Our ability to self-realize, to develop our psychic powers and empathic skills, is linked to the brow chakra, as is our ability - and desire - to recognise, admit, and then let go of emotional baggage, thus employ dark blue in workings of this type.
Magic uses: Healing, psychic ability, harmony in the home, understanding, Peace, truth, wisdom, protection, patience
Purple-
Purple is the colour of royalty, and it represents ambition and strength. Wear a purple tie or scarf as an accessory if you know you'll be at a business meeting where there may be disagreement. Purple or violet is related with the head chakra in several metaphysical systems. This is the part of ourselves that is concerned with our connection to the Divine, the Universe itself, and our capacity to understand our role in the big scheme of things. If you're doing magic to strengthen your connection to the deities of your tradition or path, utilise purple.
Magic uses: Spirituality, wisdom, devotion, peace, idealism, Divination, enhancing nurturing qualities, balancing sensitivity
Indigo-
The spiritual connotation of the hue indigo is commitment and sincerity. Indigo is an extremely dark blue with hints of violet. In the ancient world, lapis lazuli was one of the earliest stones mined and used in jewellery. It was a positive hue that was thought to shield the deceased from evil in the afterlife.
Magic uses: Emotion, fluidity, insight, expressiveness, Meditation, clarity of purpose, spiritual healing, self-mastery
Brown-
Brown can be used in projects involving the environment or animals. If you need to reconnect with the natural world, light a brown candle or carry some brown dirt in your pocket. A sigil, which is also connected with home life and stability, can be created on your door or threshold with a brown marker or paint. Inscribe spells or charms on brown paper; sandwich-sized lunch bags are ideal for this!
Magic uses: Endurance, solidity, grounding, strength, Balance, concentration, material gain, home, companion animals
Black-
Use black in magical workings involving negativity and exile. If someone bothers you, jot down their name on a sheet of paper. Burn the paper around the edges with a black candle, telling them that you are burning away any hostility, desire, jealousy, or other sentiments they may have towards you. Burn as much of the paper as you can, leaving only their name, and then bury it. Another alternative is to put their name on a black balloon, load it with helium, and then carry it far away before releasing it into the sky.
Magic uses: Dignity, force, stability, protection, Banishing and releasing negative energies, transformation, enlightenment
White-
White represents purity, honesty, and our connection to the divine and higher selves. It should be noted that in candle magic, many Pagan traditions allow for the use of a white candle instead of any other colour. Use white for workings that involve harmony and peace, the consecration of magical equipment, blessings, and purification.
Magic uses: Peace, innocence, illumination, purity, Cleansing, clarity, establishing order, spiritual growth, understanding
Silver-
Silver symbolises reflection and truth, intuition, and lunar connections. If you need to undertake any full moon scrying or any other type of activity involving psychic development, dreaming, or astral travel, use a silver candle. Because of its lunar ties, silver is associated with women's secrets, the tides, and pregnancy.
Magic uses: Wisdom, psychic ability, intelligence, memory,Spiritual development, psychic development, meditation, warding off negativity
Grey-
Grey is often connected with stability, calmness, and composure. Grey stones signify something long-lasting and sturdy. It is also a colour linked with knowledge gained through ageing. Because of this, some people link grey with ancestral representation. Grey can also be connected with loss or depression, and it can affect the mind and body by eliciting disturbing feelings. Because grey is a combination of black and white, its meaning varies - deeper hues closer to black can be more enigmatic, while lighter shades closer to white can be more enlightening.
Darker colours, such as charcoal grey, invoke the power of black but lack the negativity associated with black, whereas light greys share some of the traits of white. Grey is considered a colour for both men and women. Light greys are regarded feminine, whilst dark greys are considered manly.
Magic uses: Stability, contemplation, neutrality, reserve, Complex decisions, binding negative influences, reaching compromise

Background:
When I started on my path I didn’t have a name for it. Asking around, researching, and I couldn’t find a name for my ability to feel and work with shadows and their energy. A friend suggested I forge my own path and thus I started referring to my path as Umbra Witchcraft.
What is Umbra Witchcraft?
Umbra witchcraft utilizes the energy of the shadows to fuel spells, wards, curses, etc.
Practicing with the energy of the shadows also has a side effect of drawing what lives in those shadows to you. So be prepared to see dark orbs darting out of the corner of your eye or seeing shadow people.
Is it dangerous?
All magic is dangerous in one form or another. But keep in mind not everything that lives in the shadows is friendly so warding before reaching for umbra energy is a must.
Umbra energy vs The Umbra
Umbra energy comes from the shadows but The Umbra is a shadowy realm created, originally, by the Goddess Nyx as a safe haven for her children. It eventually expanded and become a safe haven for all of the dark deities and creatures of myth and legend.
Do I have to worship Nyx to practice Umbra witchcraft?
No you don’t. You can if you want and you might draw her attention when you first start out but you do not have to worship her or any other deity if you do not want to.
Is it ok to call myself an Umbra witch?
Yes of course its ok! I might be the first to consider myself an Umbra witch but that does not mean I own the name. In fact I would hope others refer to themselves as Umbra witches so we can find each other and share our experiences.
Inspired deeply by another post that I will reblog as soon as I can find it again, I wish to share this ritual which has helped me, and a way of thinking that has helped me in my day-to-day occult existence. I wrote a post on the spiritual vitamins but let's also put this down:
Rather than focusing on a specific intent, define what you most need in the present.
If you are feeling as though your boundaries aren't strong enough, or that you need more assertion, workings within the boundary of Mars or Saturn would be good. If you're dealing with grief, working with the moon's influence would be of aid, or working or incorporating the element of water into rituals. I adapt my daily practice as needed to include the invocation of certain elements or planets depending on the circumstances that are evident in mind, body and soul. If I'm feeling sluggish, a little bit of fire or solar energy is of good work. If I'm too in my emotions, adding air energy to either help me bring rationality into the mix or earth energy to bring me back to earth would work better than a ritual. So, in a basic and most undeniably inevitable sense, let your craft supplement your life, not your life your craft.
Now we move onto the second bit, the Psyche Sigils. This was a mixture of shadow work and sigil magic to access particular parts of me that I had neglected. The basic premise is to go through emotions that you need to process or examine such as:
Anger
Pain
Feelings of Loneliness
Feelings of Injustice towards the self
Feelings of Lack or Low Self-Esteem
And so on, in this sigil, it becomes your link to these aspects of yourself. Let yourself enter into a meditative state, contemplating the emotion while you go about it. Then, when they are complete, sit and meditate with them. Use them as access points towards those particular emotions, summon them forward. Let them take form, don't try to manipulate the form because the symbolism that the mind chooses is always an interesting experience. When the Personification of the Emotion comes forward, sit with them for a while. Ask them questions such as:
What is your source of manifestation?
In which way do you manifest in my life currently?
How can I acknowledge and reconcile you in my life?
And so on. Now, it might seem counter-intuitive to invite negative emotions and speak with them in such a matter but it is even more counter-intuitive to try and demonize and shut them down. They are you, you are them, you are human and you are the experiencer and beholder of these emotions. This rite seems to work by way of bringing conscious awareness to things that the magus has shut away in hopes of being a better person or to meet some gain. By acknowledging and making way to heal the emotion, it becomes a much more potent experience because you approach it in a more conducive way, understanding your emotions rather than trying to see them as an external force. From then, this rite can be done consecutively, and one can follow the advice given by the personifications of these emotions on how to remedy them or how to work with them in a way that is more conducive to your existence. I hope this helps. The first step to any issue is to acknowledge the issue, find its source and work to remedy it in both long-term and short-term instances... the old acronym, VITRIOL...

the death of a star is an interesting process that takes billions of years, but i think that it’s a great comparative representation of the death of living beings.
i believe that death is a mere transfer of energy - our physical bodies perish, while the energy of what we once were is transferred to another plane of existence to form what most people refer to as spirits.
like the death of a supergiant star, we go through an energetic transformation (the formation of a supernova) and end up as an invisible, but very present, state of being (black hole).
aside from physical death, death can also be viewed in a symbolic manner - you can break bad habits, discover a new way of life, take on a new career path, or undergo a fundamental transformation and it can be viewed as the symbolic process of death and rebirth.
the correspondences associated with this process are as follows:
the collapse of a star - death
supernova - transformation
neutron star or black hole - rebirth or energetic transfer

I have often been unsatisfied with the way that current witchcraft communities approach the sun, the moon and the stars. The approach is often mythical or based in gender associations which don't particularly call to me. Since I've been exploring basic astronomy recently, I thought I'd write my personal guide to celestial magic. No hate to people who work with celestial bodies in different ways to me, I simply want to share my practice and experience with you all for those like me who might want a new perspective on an old practice.
I have found that returning to the basics of astronomical knowledge on the sun has helped me connect with its energies and come at it from a new perspective.
The sun, the star in our solar system, is responsible for almost everything we see in daily life. Not just plants which live off its light, but our gravity itself, the planet we live on works in perfect harmony with the celestial bodies that surround it to create the world we hold dear. The workings of physics on our earth are not mundane but instead wonderful and magical. Our exact position in the solar system is what allows life. Whether you believe it is by chance or the gods that allowed it to happen, the beauty in it only grows when you learn more about our precious star.
The light that comes from the sun gives life, and its existence allows us to exist in tandem. But it is also deadly, its rays can burn and wither and one must apply caution when working with it. The warmth it gives us can sometimes be overwhelming, I think most of us have experienced that thanks to global warming.
Regardless, the sun, to me, represents the present. Everything that is during the day, the slow progress from dawn to dusk in the present moment. It represents life and warm light that gives light and hope to many, but it can also be too much at times. Just as life can be. But as it moves across the sky it is a reminder that the present moment changes. It is fluid, and each moment passes and brings forth another after it. The cycles of the sun, too, are this reminder. The solstices change as time passes, but they are ever a reminder to stay in the present moment and notice the world around you.
That was all very poetic, but in reality, it is very simple. The sun is a powerful tool for use in magic of abundance, life and happiness. But it can also be used in baneful ways that are less commonly addressed. The sun is a deadly laser, after all. As our star, there are few things that escape its touch. Harnessing its power can be simple, but that is a post for another day.
I find that the stars are less often discussed as a plural celestial force in witchcraft and are more commonly associated with astrology. While the reading of the patterns of the stars is no doubt interesting, they themselves hold a unique power.
While at first glance it appears to be a cold light, these stars are not so different from our own star, the sun. Lightyears away still their light shines to us, some dying and some new. To me, this signifies the past. They are each of them unique, and while our position to them changes as the earth moves throughout the year, they each have their own place in the universe. Their own solar systems, their own galaxies. We change and the world around us changes, but the stars' patterns can be counted on and predicted.
I find the stars to be a unique and comforting sight, when I can get somewhere with a lack of light pollution to truly appreciate them. Though I may not have learnt the constellations by heart, there is something touching about stargazing. Do not forget to be curious about them, not just in learning their names and associations but in the light themselves. Venus shines brightly in the sky, not because it is a star but because it is a planet in our solar system. The same goes for Mars. I find learning about these planets and stars beyond far more enlightening than star signs. Do not forget that beneath the mysticism and the names lies a real, tangible light and power that you can feel if you only look.
So much has been written on lunar magic I could not scratch the surface if I tried. But again I return to science to guide my magical inquiry. The moon, our moon, is a satellite which rotates around the earth in a unique and fascinating equilibrium which is special to our own planet. The moon, while small compared to some of Jupiter's moons for example, is uniquely large when compared to the size of our planet. This is what allows its gravitational force to influence the tides of the world.
If the sun is the present and the stars the past, the moon, then is the future. When the sun sets and the world is bathed in its light, it is a reflection of the sun that we cannot see. A reflection of the sun that has yet to rise, revealing things in the darkness which have yet to come to the light of the sun. Perhaps that is what gives the moon its unique power and special place in witchcraft practices. Perhaps it is its proximity to us, the closest celestial power and the only that humans have yet touched. Or perhaps it is the gods. Regardless of what its origin is, there is little doubt that the moon is a powerful force in witchcraft. Countless guides and books can tell you more than I could about it.
When I say light magic I mean not the term often used in fantasy to mean "good" magic, but the use of light itself in magical practices. Celestial light is, in my opinion, the most powerful form of light available to us.
It is quite common for people to use sunlight or moonlight to 'charge' crystals or sun/moon water, but rarely have I seen a more in depth explanation of how light can be used in spells. Many spells are done under the light of the moon, particular moon phases or at certain times of day, but the light rays themselves provide energy which can be used and manipulated for magical ends. With energy work it can be helpful to have a visual aid, and i certainly find the aid of the light to be a good visualisation tool. Sunbathing (with proper spf protection), moon bathing or star gazing are all excellent ways to work with the unique energies of celestial light. But something as simple as opening your curtains in the morning is its own form of energy work.
If you know anything about my posts you know I prefer the simple, everyday magic over complicated rituals and spells. For me, sitting in the sun with a cup of coffee or tea helps me to recharge. I will always pick the simple things over the complex, and the energies that light provides are an excellent way to work with not just the world around you but the universe too. The solar system beyond our little rock, the galaxies and other solar systems which are visible in the night sky. All of them are beautiful and unique.
If this post inspires you to do anything, I hope it inspires you to be curious about the universe around you. Read a book about the moon, watch a documentary about the stars, or pick up a pair of binoculars and go out at night and see what you can see. This is all just as important as spells or rituals, if not more so.

I feel like Jake Richards's books are pretty popular with folk witches. If you have any interest in Appalachian folk magic, or even American folk magic more generally, you've probably at least heard of this book. Part of why I put off reviewing it for so long is because I feel like there's already been plenty of attention given to it online, so I'll try to make this brief.
Pros:
Definitely authentic Appalachian folk magic. Jake Richards writes about a lot of things I've seen people do or heard people talk about but never seen written anywhere.
This book is really well researched! I'm very impressed by all the references and footnotes.
I love that Richards uses the correct Tsalagi (Cherokee), Gaelige (Irish), and Gaelic (Scottish) words when talking about the cultures that influence Southern folk magic. I also love that he includes pronunciation guides.
Cons:
I didn't finish this book on my first read. It wasn't until I revisited it recently that I actually read to the end. Something about the writing style and the way the book is organized made it a little hard to follow at times, at least for me.
The research is generally good, but there's definitely more detail given for European and Cherokee cultural influences than for African. When talking about European influences, Richards will usually specify the specific country or culture something comes from, but for African influences he just says "African." While this research is harder to do because the slave trade intentionally cut people off from their cultural traditions, other authors like Luisah Teish and Stephanie Rose Bird have shown that we can often trace these African influences back to a specific culture, or at least a region. I would have liked to see the same level of effort put into researching African practices that went into the European ones.
Other Observations:
Christianity is a big part of the author's practice. This is faithful to traditional Appalachian conjure, but just know that it may be triggering if you've experienced religious trauma in a Christian setting. I found this book harder to read than other books on conjure that incorporate Christian elements, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because it sounded too similar to the Appalachian church where my abuse happened? Just something to be aware of if this is a tricky topic for you.

The Faerie Star
The seven-pointed star or Faerie Star is an emerging symbol in contemporary magick. It is most often used to represent the worlds of Faerie. It can be displayed as a protective shield, a powerful talisman, a focal point for meditation, or a symbol of the Shining Realms.
The seven-pointed star is called a septagram, septegram, or heptagram. This glyph has had mystical associations for centuries, probably longer, since the number seven is important in many spiritual traditions around the world.
Medieval alchemists used the seven-pointed star to stand for the seven alchemical metals and their corresponding planets. But it can also stand for the seven colors, the seven days of the week, the seven musical notes, the Seven Sisters (Pleiades), the seven chakras, or any of the many sacred things that come in groups of seven. In Hermetic Qabalah, the septagram can represent the sphere of Netzach and the corresponding planet of Venus. Aleister Crowley also chose a septagram as the Seal of Babylon, the Great Mother and Sacred Whore of Thelema.
The septagram, because it has an odd number of points, can be traced in a continuous line. Its unbroken form helps give the star its identity as a symbol of eternity.
The Faerie Star is most often shown as a continuous figure with elongated points. No one can really say how or when the motif became incorporated into modern Paganism, but it is now a common sight in books, on jewelry, and on altar tools. Many practitioners use the Faerie Star instead of, or in addition to, the familiar five-pointed pentagram. Some say that the seven-pointed star reflects planetary (celestial) magick, while the pentagram encompasses magick of the elements and the earth.

You want to learn magic and witchcraft, awesome! Go you! You wanna know what's important though? Learning the mundane at the same time as the magical.
I'm a firm believer in learning as much as you can about the things you're working with. To know a paintbrush, you have to paint. To learn an instrument, you have to play it. Anything you work with is a tool that, in an ideal scenario, will become an extension of yourself. You want to be in tune with your tools, you want to understand them as much as possible. It's learning how the tools respond to your interference. When you know these things inside and out, that, to me, is when you become an expert. Don't just learn the meanings of things, learn the reasons behind the meanings. Look up the etymology of that magic word you saw before you do the spell. Learn the historical uses of that herb and connect that to whatever its correspondence is. Learn why things are the way they are.
You want to learn ocean magic? Learn about the tides while you're at it. Learn how the ocean behaves, understand the sheer power behind the waves, the creatures of the ocean and all of the treasures you can find on the seashore.
Thinking about getting into green craft? Don't just learn about the magical uses of plants, learn about botany, and how to identify plants, understand how plants grow and thrive, and how different plants exist in nature.
Considering animal magic? Learn the Latin name of the species, maybe check out their anatomy while you're at it. Where does this animal find its niche? What does it eat, where does it sleep?
Getting into forest witchcraft? Learn about your local forests and trees. What kinds of forests there are, what preserving a forest can look like. Can you identify any trees of your own? How do different trees propagate?
How about weather magic? Learn meteorology, how to identify storm clouds, what atmospheric pressure does. Start to observe changes in the weather daily, how weather affects the wildlife around you.
Cosmic witchcraft more your vibe? Learn a little about space, study a map of the stars, learn the constellations in your night sky. Branch off into learning astronomy and cosmology, learn about planetary systems other than our own. If you want to keep it basic, learn the time it takes each planet to complete a rotation and revolution.
Crystals seem to be up your alley? Don't stop at the metaphysical properties, learn their scientific properties as well. Where can these crystals be mined? How rare are they? Can you tell the difference between imitations and the real deal? What's their number on the Mohs hardness scale?
Whatever you want to learn, branch out further than the magical. The mundane is just as, if not more important.

pluto, otherwise known as hades in greek mythology, is the ruler and guardian of the underworld.
ethically collect graveyard dirt and charge it with plutonian energy - may be used in spells that correspond with pluto’s energy, spirit work, or any act that includes honoring the dead
create a shrine or altar dedicated to a loved one who has passed on - add a symbolic representation of pluto for the protection of your loved one in the afterlife
create an amulet to represent an ancestor or loved one that has passed on and charge with plutonian energy - this can be worn for remembrance or to aid in contacting the spirit of this person
some ideas for this may include: the name of your loved one; a sigil that represents their name and your intention; some of their ashes (please don’t take ashes from a family urn without permission); graveyard dirt from the grave of your loved one (again, not without permission); herbs or crystals that correspond to spirit work and death magic (perhaps even your loved one’s favorite crystal or flower)
provide offerings to pluto for the continued protection of your loved ones in the afterlife
plant herbs and flowers that correspond with pluto
volunteer to work with hospice patients or to help clean up your local graveyard
provide food and beverages on your altar or sacred space
light a candle or incense of corresponding scent
leave corresponding crystals or herbs in an offering dish
leave offerings for your loved ones at their grave or on your altar
design a crystal grid using plutonian crystals to amplify corresponding spells or rituals
wear a crystal pendant that corresponds with pluto for the metaphorical death and rebirth of one’s self
use the death card in your tarot deck during spells and rituals that involve death magic
i typically do not work with any deities, but sometimes i feel it's appropriate to incorporate persephone as well.
