Looks like I'll have to fix that
Hiiiiiii could you do a langst where lance develops just like this fear of explosions after season 1 and he tries to hide it but then one day at a celebration fireworks are going off and everything is fine until the paladins notice lance getting really nervous and basically having a panic attack
AJSKVKFKDJF SORRY I ANSWERED REALLY LATE I KNOW
Anyways⌠I hope you like it!
â
Lance had never expected the event to affect him so severely.
Heâd protected Coran from the explosion from the drone, but heâd been hit. The blast had even knocked him unconscious for an indeterminate amount of time. While his body had healed quickly and completely⌠his mind hadnât.
It was a stupid fear to have. Especially since he was in a fucking war. There were explosions all the time. Every time they hit a ship⌠boom. It was ridiculous. Fire and light spreading across the galaxy shouldnât have made Lanceâs heart beat as fast as it did.
It was stupid, and Lance wouldnât tell the others. He wouldnât.
The screams that involuntarily slipped from his mouth during a battle were because of excitement. Of course. The others never asked about it, though⌠maybe they didnât care⌠or maybe they never assumed that someone like Lance would be overcome by his terror like this.
A scream ripped from Lanceâs mouth as a ship turned into a cloud of fire.
âWoah!â Hunk said quickly. He hadnât heard Lance make a sound like that before. It sounded primal⌠as if he were truly scared. Maybe heâd been hit or a Galra had infiltrated his ship or- âAre you okay, Lance? Whatâs happening?â
There was a moment where only heavy breathing and quiet shuffling could be heard.
Lance took a deep breath before speaking. âY-yeah. Iâm⌠Iâm good.â Get yourself together, Lance. He let out a laugh. âI was just a little surprised. I never expected that shot to actually hit!â Was he convincing enough? Did Hunk believe him? Had he given himself away?
âOh! Okay then.â Hunk said with a chuckle. âI thought that something was happening⌠you sounded so scaredâŚâ He sounded serious again.
Lance was glad that Hunk couldnât see him sweating and fidgeting. âWhat? Me? Scared?â He scoffed. âThatâs ridiculous. What would I have to be afraid of?â
A groan came from Pidge over the coms. âOh, really, Lance? Youâre not invincible, you know?â
âSince when?â Lance said. If only Pidge could see the smirk on his face. It would sell the act much easier. âYou canât hurt me!â
âOh, yeah?â Keith mumbled. His voice was dripping with sarcasm. âWhat about that time with the drone? You totally got hurt then.â
Lance didnât know what to say to this⌠he⌠that wasnât fair⌠it⌠âThat wasnât my fault,â Lance shouted in anger. He threw his hands up in the air despite knowing that no one could see him.
âHow was that not your fault?â Keith shouted back. âYou jumped right into the blast!â
âI did not! I saved Coran!â Lance shot down some of the last few ships. He was so enraged that he didnât even jump when they exploded. âIf not for me, he would have been hit!â
âYeah, well, you got hurt!â Keith yelled angrily. âYou can obviously get hurt!â
âShut up! Just shut up!â Silence.
âYouâre telling me to shut up when youâre the one who doesnât ever shut-â
âGuys!â Shiroâs yelling breaks through the fight. âLook⌠we have to go to a celebration on the planet since we won the battle and freed them. Iâm sure that the planetâs inhabitants wonât want to hear your incessant shouting. Can we please hold it together? At least while weâre on the planet?â
No one answers for a few seconds. Obviously, neither side wants to pull a truce.
Lance, however, decides that it would just be easier to give up. Maybe Keith would forget about it then.
âFine,â he says coldly. âBut donât think that Iâm done with you, Keith.â
Keith scoffs. âOh, yeah? Weâll see later, Lance,â He hisses.
The team descends down onto the planet and leaves their cockpits to see a flood of smiling alien faces.
The planet is almost like Earth⌠There are blue oceans and green plants⌠But Lance canât focus on that right now. He has to be happy for the aliens.
âFreedom!â Lance throws his hands up in the air and screeches happily.
âFreedom!â The aliens scream back. They jump and run and dance, and Lance is sure that heâs never seen anyone look happier.
After a dinner of God knows what (itâs some alien dish, Lance assumes), the team settles down on something like a hillside. The aliens had said that they had a surprise for the team, and Lance couldnât wait to see it.
âWhat do you think the surprise is?â Lance says excitedly. His feet move from side to side as he sits and waits in anticipation.
âI donât know, Lance,â Keith says sarcastically. He shoots Lance a sharp glance. âThatâs why itâs a surprise.â
They werenât supposed to fight while they were here. Shiro made that very clear. So why is Keith being such a dick? âAlright, Keith, thereâs no need to-â
Then⌠thereâs a boom, and Lance just stops.
He looks up into the sky and sees remnants of light floating down to the ground. Itâs- is that-
All sound becomes muffled and Lance can feel his heart rate increase exponentially.
Muffled screams can be heard as large explosions go off in the sky.
Lanceâs eyes widen, and he jumps to his feet. But thereâs nowhere to run. Nowhere to take cover. Is this how he dies?
â-ance?â
He can hear someone calling his name, but who is it? Are they okay? Whoâs still alive? How can they survive this?
âLance?!â
Someone grabs Lanceâs shoulders, and he lets out a scream. He rips his eyes from the explosions raining from the sky to look at the person in front of him.
Itâs Hunk. He has a worried expression on his face, and his mouth is moving with no sound.
Lance looks behind Hunk to see the rest of the team still sitting on the ground. How can they still be sitting when theyâre about to die? Their faces are full of concern, but none of them move.
Lance can hear more loud explosions, and he pushes Hunk away. He drops to the ground and covers his ears while rocking back and forth.
Whatâs happening? Why isnât anyone moving? Is everyone okay? How many people have died so far? Can this be stopped? Why? Why? Why?
Lance can feel his body being lifted off the ground, and he struggles against the force but to no avail. After a moment of fruitless effort, Lance just goes limp and shivers. He doesnât know who or what is moving him, but he finds that heâs too tired to care. Maybe heâs dead. Maybe heâs on his way to heaven. He feels himself being set down on something, but he doesnât open his eyes to see what it is. There are slight vibrations that come from the environment around him, and Lance realizes that he canât hear the explosions anymore.
âLance, are you okay?â The voice is still muffled, but less.
Lance risks peeking his eyes open and sees that heâs in the cockpit of the yellow lion. He looks over to see Hunk in the pilot seat. Theyâre in space now, he notices. When did that happen? Just a moment ago, he was on that planetâŚ
âThe planet⌠is it okay?â Lance asks weakly.
âWhat?â Hunk sounds shocked, and his voice drips with concern. âYeah, yeah, itâs fine. Why wouldnât it be?â
âThere⌠There were explosions and⌠andâŚâ Oh noâŚ
âYou mean fireworks?â
Oh no⌠âOh⌠shit.â
âLance, what happened down there?â Hunk turns around to look at the still shivering blue paladin. âThe first firework went off, and you just went into a panic.â
How was Lance supposed to explain this without sounding stupid? It was completely irrational, and Lance should be over it by now. What was he supposed to say?
âHunk, IâŚâ A pause. Oh, God⌠this was going to be harder than he thought.
Hunkâs eyes widen, and he gasps slightly. âLance, does this have anything to do with that drone explosion?â
Shit. Was it that obvious?
Lance looks down and nods. âYeah⌠sorry. I know itâs stupid, and Iâm trying to get better⌠but IâŚâ
âLance, no!â Hunk says suddenly and with such force that it actually scares Lance a little. âDonât be sorry! Itâs not your fault.â
âBut-â
âNo, no, no. Itâs not stupid either, okay?â Silence. âWhy didnât you tell us?â
Thatâs a good question, actually⌠well⌠maybe itâs because⌠oh⌠yeah.
âI⌠didnât want to be useless,â Lance mumbles. âIf I canât even handle an explosion, then how am I supposed to fight? I- I donât want to be useless, Hunk. I want to help.â
âOh, Lance.â Hunk walks over and engulfs Lance in a hug. âYouâre not and never will be useless.â
âHow am I supposed to help, though?â Lance says desperately. âHow?â
Hunk rubs Lanceâs back as he speaks. âWeâll find a workaround, Lance. Maybe we can even soundproof Blue for you. Then you donât have to hear the explosions.â
Lance looks up at Hunk with hope (or maybe tears) in his eyes. âCould you really do that?â
âOf course!â Hunk smiles and Lance smiles back at him. Then theyâre just quiet as Lance sits in Hunkâs arms.
He looks out into space and sees the stars pass peacefully, and, for once after the accident, Lance can close his eyes and think that maybe, just maybe⌠things would be okay.
