Female Portrayals in Video Games
Recently Overwatch released a new character, citing complaintsof a lack of ‘body diversity’. Now, Idon’t like the character but that’s for a variety of reasons and that’ll becoming at a later date. No, what really botheredme was this argument and the implications for a common trend in representation of women in video games.
To add some context, I’m a gay woman and I want to be a game dev. I’ve loved video games and been a gamer for close to 15 years. And I really feel there are pressing issues with the arguments for ‘representation of women in video games’. I’ve made similar rants about this general topic before and you can find my most successful one here.
If you’re concerned with women, body types, representation, etc, I suggest you give me a fair shake and read all the way to the end. More under the break.

Got Kinugasa the last night before work which lets me do like 4 quests I was stuck on. Tonight I saw someone get Zuikaku by doing 666/666/666/666 so I thought I'd try it for shits and giggles before going to bed. It worked.
I tried crafting with Nagato while she was still Lv1 before trying to level her, so I went for a Surface Radar and failed, tried for an Engine and failed, then tried for a 46cm or a Type 91 shell, and she got the 46cm. Now she's used it to get 5 levels in just one node.
Internet died on Sunday and I've been going to my Aunt's and playing on a flash drive while doing laundry and making pumpkin bread and whatnot. Battleship Hime would shoot someone to crit almost every time I'd sortie, and if I got the southern route I'd never get to the boss at all. The first node of the south route would crit some of my ships. Every time I did get to the boss though, Tenryuu would fire a 250 damage torpedo attack and kill CL Oni in one hit every time. The second to last time she got to orange just before night and still pulled a one shot kill and I got Nagato. Tenryuu is the stronk.
I have never seen that battleship before and it kicked the shit out of everyone.
Also got Atago Kai'd last night so she could cannibalize more boats for strength and keep me from the cap. Got another Jun'you from that last run as well, giving me two of the best crippled carriers who can get MVP even when unable to launch planes in the shelling phase.
I beat E-1, but I am only able to do Easy, so rip 601st Reppuu and 51cm gun. I did get I-58 and built a Type 3 Sonar and a Saiun.
So I finally got Kantai going again and started the event. I can't play Medium or Hard. Rip 601st Reppuu and 51cm gun. First run had Kiso and Tenryuu get one shotted by the flagship of the second north node. Second run beat the boss without taking damage, and I got the last of the Kongou I needed. And now I have the 4th fleet!
"I swear if it's another Mutsu or Kongou..."
But it was Beaver. After several sorties of 3-1 to get to the boss node and Wo practically one-shotting Mutsu, I gots me a beaver.

After finally having trained my ships in preparation for 2-4 and having fit them with a more effective loadout, I finally beat 2-4, but I didn't manage to kill the last two Ru-class Battleships. My fleet did amazing damage all the way up until the boss, where there were no double attacks and scratch damage all around and my reward was yet another Kongou. I blew all my resources getting Mutsu leveled to Kai and everyone repaired. Also found out Kitakami was actually ready to Kai as well.

I have always managed to scroll back to the day before, but the internet has been out since Saturday morning and now, I have run out of RAM after four hours, only having made it to some point during Saturday. What happened before that? Was it even Saturday? Nobody knows. All knowledge of those times have been lost, much like the archives of Alexandria, never to be recovered or seen again. Did something important happen? Did cerastes almost die again? Did he actually die? Did Saturday even happen? It is unclear and indiscernible.

I took the quest of sending a Torpedo Squadron to 2-2 and getting an S rank on the boss. When I saw what I had to make up a torpedo squad I was less than enthused. "They're all going to die" I said, so I sent them to 1-3 to level up and they got their shit kicked in. Scratch damage and misses everywhere. Tenryuu had to kill the last enemies in the torpedo barrage and then the night battle.Tenryuu instead took them to 1-5 to farm submarines in safety. There they were able to level unhindered. Even when half the fleet was horribly demoralized, Fubuki was still sparkling. Even after I got her Kai'd and switched Shimakaze to flagship, she still kept sparkling. Soon everyone was Kai'd and fitted with 10cm guns and quad torpedoes and thrown into 2-2. Samidare took moderate damage, Fubuki and Shirayuki took minor, even against a pair of Elite Wo-class. Tenryuu and Fubuki sunk the Wo in the night battle with 462 and 311 crits. Higher damage than I've seen even from Battleships
I got back on and the Lv120 PVP target was a fleet of 5 submarines. 5 kills, 0 damage, 711XP and Tenryuu got 2132
