Documenting the world as he saw it, early realist photographer Ihei Kimura was one of the first Japanese photographers to chronicle everyday life on the streets of Tokyo during the Twenties and Thirties. Later, as a true urban nomad, he would travel to Europe in search of the extraordinary hidden in the mundane. Today he is honored by the Kimura Ihei award, one of Japan’s most prestigious photography prizes.
