the dirt man and ocean man are the opposite ends of the same spectrum
I plan to make a Fakemon inspired by Wolfwalkers, their humans who can leave their bodies and become wolf-like pokemon when they sleep.
How would I design them
Oh, thats a really cool idea!! โก I'm not really one for giving advice on design principles, but I'll try and jot down some thoughts on what I'd do if I were to design that sorta fakemon... :]
Suppose you'd still wanna keep the pokemon-style. In that case, I'd look at some already wolf-ish pokemon as reference -- if you would like for them to be quadrupedal (on four legs) like poochyena or lycanrock, or bipedal (on two legs) like zoroark or lucario? Figure out how human you'd want their pokemon-forms to be! This is also a great place to take inspiration from other sources too; digimon or other media, fantasy creatures, historical depictions of werewolves, mythical wolves in general, etc! You can make them more wolf-like, or try exaggerating some of the features - longer or shorter legs, bodies, extra appendages, ears, tails - whatever you want! Next, I'd go for themes- would you want for them to have a typical sort of full-moon, uncontrolled transformation? Would this show up in their design in any way (scraps of clothing, stretch marks, or more human-like base features)? Or would you rather have it more fluid and magical, like in Wolfwalkers - and how would this relate to their design (swirling patterns like Robyn and Mebh when they use druidic magic, some sort of magical aura, or other magical traits)? You can also go for more common themes like sleep, the moon, plantlife, claws, and eyes, and try to make this something that stands out for your fakemon! - Like if you look at lycanrock's base form, that's very clearly a wolf with rocks. Meanwhile, a pokemon like Musharna doesn't really... seem like a tapir - the animal it's most likely based on - but it very well conveys the aspect of Sleep in its design!
The themes and source material can also influence a lot of your color choices! (warm like the woods in Wolfwalkers, or more cold like the night-sky) Figuring out the limits and how far you can stretch your design while keeping it recognizable is a really fun challenge, and something that doodling could help with! References, feedback and multiple iterations are also a great part of the process!
Anyhows- hope that helps a little, and thank you sm for sending over the question! โก
gonna start posting my artfight attacks once the mods fix the hellsite /lh โก
gonna make this a lil thread for all of 'em :]
to start off my proper tumblr, my little rant-haven for my ocs - have a stimboard!
this was the first one i made ever, so i didn't quite get the colors how i liked 'em... but one only learns through practice :] ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ ๐ โ sources โ | x | x | x | | x | o | x | | x | x | x |
what do you mean I never uploaded my little half-troll-changeling baby?? ok well- say hi to Tove, she's a little gremlin who just moved over to trolberg, and is having a bit of a rough time trying to get around :]
also a cool night-version for all the troll fans โงโง
going for something a little different, but- we'll see who this reaches!
a lil sneak-peek of a google docs im working on! i've been a bit of a hard time trying to find materials in Avatar Frontiers, and the fact that all the maps are half fogged-up on every website kinda annoys me ^^' so i planned on making my own!
every single item will be on the docs, and right now i have almost 70 items on the list! (still gotta do full wiki pages like with the two images on top...)
anyhow! send over a message if you want early access to the docs! โก
most of the pages look like the image on the right- but i think its plenty of info to locate materials! (the rest of the stuff is mostly descriptions/technical info from the hunter's guide)
late notice -- whatever-- hey, come say hi over on artfight!!! :D https://artfight.net/~spicypineneedles
worldbuilding thoughts #1
juggalo/clown peacemakers :)
for my world, im so gonna make a group of juggalo, or juggalo-adjacent folk who are the main law-enforcement in a whole-ass region...
inspired by the fact that a lot of gangs have relations to the juggalo, even though the gangs have beef between themselves... juggalos are the stabilizing factor
also by homestuck, but thats neither here nor there :)
matching Hilda-themed icons for the season for me and my friend :] i've been posting some hilda-fanart on other platforms for a bit now- but don't usually dare to post the more self-indulgent stuff... that's what this blog is for tho, right? :D so yea- here's my friend depicted as a sort of more vampiric marra, and me as- well, a ghost! i tried to originally make myself as a troll- but it was really hard to get any human likeness to the character :'D (and the friend in question suggested a ghost instead) so- spooky ghost it is! season's greetings, spooky season! >:]
you wanna play a game? maybe get some silly art of your fave beans in return? check this!
'The game centers around a neglected wizard-apprentice, who is only now stretching their legs in the world of Earrather. Youโre going to be learning on-the-go how to prepare poultices, potions, spells, and enchantments for the people of a small and troubled, but idyllic northern town.'

send in a review in the appropriate 'tumblr feedback' thread over there
send a dm on here (or discord) n' you'll get a lil doodle of a character of your choosing for your time!
pics of my sona (syu'evi) in frontiers! finally managed to gather my final look!
bunch more screenshots of npcs, environments etc. under the cut!
mm okul my beloved โก along with relun, who grew on me, and a random kame'tire member who i met near meadow's edge field lab.. such a pretty lad in a pretty place (further screenshots below)
i absolutely adore the lush greenery of the Kinglor Forest - and flying around with your ikran, or finding the occasional direhorse is always a blast! plus, the surprising diversity and recognizability of the different biomes is so wonderfully executed โก
oh man, the upper plains... the colors immediately struck me- especially around the crimson biomes, and the purple steppe! along with the environment, the zeswa have such a wonderful type of artistry to them! dancing, singing, painting! absolutely gorgeous โกโก
and of course, who could forget the clouded forest โกโกโกโก man, such a different biome from what we've seen in the franchise so far -- and it did Not dissappoint! wonderful areas, gorgeous colors, and the atmosphere is so clear and recognisable! you can almost feel the humidness in the air โน
